I’d like to know about other schools’ experiences migrating from on-premise file storage to OneDrive/SharePoint. Did you move to OneDrive user profiles? How do your user profiles work? Are they 100% cloud only? Currently we store on a NAS (all the usual file server features) and folder redirection. How do you handle the key Downloads/Pictures/Music? For those with apps like Adobe/Unity, anything to be aware of? Currently on AD/domain-joined so not Intune joined just yet. I am in the position to trial this with a small set of users, which will also tie in with an Intune migration eventually. Thanks.

Hi all, This is my first post on Edugeek, so please forgive me if I’ve posted this in the wrong section! I work in a secondary special needs school in the UK, and we’ve been using Education City to support teaching and learning in English, Maths, and Science. Although our students are secondary-aged, many are working within the KS1 and KS2 curriculum due to their individual needs. Education City has been a great all-round solution for us - its cartoon-style visuals and accessible content really suit our learners, and it’s also been valuable for setting homework across the three core disciplines. We do use a number of other platforms, but none of them cover all three subjects in one place as effectively as Education City has. With the platform being retired in August, we’re now looking for a suitable replacement. We’re hoping to find a platform that: Is cloud-based and GDPR compliant Allows us to set and manage homework in English, Maths, and Science Is visually engaging and accessible to students with a range of SEND profiles Covers KS1 and KS2 level content Aligns with the UK National Curriculum Is easy for staff to use and integrate into everyday classroom practice If you’re in a similar setting, or have used any platforms that meet these needs, I’d be really grateful for any recommendations - or warnings on what to avoid! Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone, I'm keen to get some insights on how others in the school sector are handling the gradual move away from on-prem infrastructure, particularly for core services like DHCP and DNS. With budget cuts and the shift to cloud services, maintaining aging local servers is becoming a real challenge. I have a perfect example of this at one of my sites: an HP ProLiant DL320e Gen8 V2 server. It's well past its warranty coverage period, hasn't been rebooted since 2023, and the last time it was, we had a RAID array failure. It's now in a state where I'm genuinely afraid to power it down😭 This server is currently handling DHCP and DNS for the administrative network (for office staff, medical, SLT, etc.). While it's still running on Windows Server 2016, which gives us some breathing room, the hardware itself is a ticking time bomb. I'm finding that our reliance on Active Directory is decreasing as we move more services to the cloud. This got me thinking about the future of these core network services. Are you still running dedicated on-prem servers for DHCP and DNS? What are your strategies for replacing or migrating these services? Are you looking at more modern on-prem solutions (e.g., virtualised servers, micro-appliances) or are you moving these functions to the cloud? Any advice or shared experiences on this would be hugely appreciated!

Hi, All our servers runs on on-premise VMware cluster. We have Active Directory with multiple child domains. We have recently migrated from on-premise Exchange to the Office 365 for the emails. Few departments use SharePoint to store the teaching/learning resources (Site-Pages/Documents library). We use Veeam for the backup; DR site has critical servers replicated by the Veeam. Do you guys use Azure VM/Storage or any Azure services for your school ? If you do then could you please share your experience on what do you use it for ? Thank you

We use iSAMS - Cloud based. When iSAMS sends messages it pretends to originate from our domain. When using the Gmail app we get warnings: Be careful with this message . This message has a 'from' address in but has failed 's required tests for authentication. The sending IP address has been whitelisted. Any solutions? Thank you, Wouter

Hello Everyone, We are currently in the process of having a brand new 160 place special school built for us. This will see us build a brand new network as we currently piggy back of a secondary school we are sharing a site with running a RM CC4 network. We have our own SIMS server but and O365 but as this will be a completely new network we are exploring all our options particularly moving towards cloud. We have explored going the Google route etc but want to know if you had the opportunity to have a brand new from the ground up network what would you do. We have already explored a number of local schools who have said Google intrigues them but we want to make informed decisions so are looking at everything from Hybrid Cloud to Google maybe even changing MIS. Happy to have phone calls arranged etc.

Hi Everyone, I am looking to migrate our schools DNS and DHCP over the summer holidays - I did think about hosting these on their firewall, but I would like access if needed. I am looking at purchasing a Micro computer/server to host these services on, maybe something like this - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dell-Optiplex-Desktop-Computer-D10U001/dp/B08SMSFV7R/ref=sr_1_3?crid=31HTKAIGS3BV6&keywords=dell+micro+pc&qid=1688402474&sprefix=dell+micro+pc%2Caps%2C78&sr=8-3 Can anyone see any downsides to this? It will only be used for these two services, and nothing else. TIA.

Hi, I am currently trying to make a change to an Edge flag (Override software rendering list) for a suite of older PC's to fix a display issue with a bit of cloud based software. I am able to make the change manually by going to each machine individually, and going to Edge://flags however I was wondering if there is a way to automate this process, whether this is a script of some sort, or a simple registry change. Can anyone offer any advice or recommendation? Thanks in advance.

Excluding any hub associations, could I please ask how other schools are designing their SharePoints. I have set up separate SharePoint sites for curriculum subjects (Maths, English etc), but was curious about the administration side. We have an Admin Portal network drive and I could replicate this with an Administration site with sub folders for say "Catering", "Facilities", "Admissions", or is the best option to separate these into sites too?

Hello, On our site we currently have 90 iPads for students to use. Some staff now want students to be able to save the research work that they do on the iPads to be able to access it from the PCs in the school. The way I was thinking of doing this was through using dropbox, but this would obviously mean a lot of hassle setting up every student with a dropbox account. Also being able to share work with their teachers would mean the staff having to set up a shared folder and typing in each individual students account. We do have fronter, and I wondered if anyone had any ideas for a solution that would be quicker and better than using dropbox before I get to work setting up approx 900 student dropbox accounts...

I'm currently looking into the use of Skydrive Pro for use in a school environment, while we are still on the 2010 version of 365 waiting for the 2013 version I want to clear a few things up.... Can SkyDrive be configured for each users redirected home folder so effectively they have a direct synced copy of their my documents in their SkyDrive cloud area? How is the above managed, certain requirements such as roaming profiles? GPO's available? Does SkyDrive pro support SSO?

Hi Everyone, I really am stumped at this point. Anyone who could offer any advice, please please do!! As of 3am on Friday, users can no longer receive email constantly on their portable devices. Users were able to add their office 365 account to their portable devices before this time using Active Sync, but now users who have the accounts set up prior to this time receive an error - cannot connect to server, even though on their phone settings the device shows as ok, but with a successful sync time of Friday. If you start logging, the retrieval shows an error. Users who try and add their account since this time simply are unable to verify account information. The IMAP Server setting is correct - the same as showing in their mailbox settings, and for users who couldn't autodiscover previously, this setting worked - until now. On testexchangeconnectivity.com, my admin account passes the activesync fine, with no errors. A standard user now receives an error: The IMAP service is being tested. I have just signed up to Symbaloo. The info on the site says: "Symbaloo is your personal desktop on the web. With Symbaloo you can easily access your favourite sites and services." At first sight it just looks like a website which is made up of hotspots pointing at other websites: http://imgur.com/5N6DD.png But who knows: I may get to like it. Link: Symbaloo.Com

Hi all, We've been asked to look into doing a migration to the cloud but instead of using SharePoint and 365 we'd be using Google. Does anyone have any experience is uploading rather large file shares to Google Drive/Shared Drives and any tools they've used? Any help is great appreciated!

Could I please ask for some advice regarding 'Named User licensing' for Adobe Creative Cloud. We haven't started using the software yet, but before we do so I wanted to find out other's experiences and whether anyone is using user licenses successfully. We are an LGfL customer and have 120 free user licenses. As per the following link I understand that users can remain signed in to the app on up to two computers and can use the app on only one computer at a time: https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/using/install-apps-number-of-computers.html When using the software on a shared PC (W10), are users automatically signed out of Adobe CC when they log off the PC? If not, are they eventually signed out of Adobe CC or do they remain signed in indefinitely? If the user forgets to sign out of Adobe CC, what happens when the next user of the shared PC logs in and launches Adobe CC? Presumably they don't have access to the previous user's Adobe CC account? If the user has left themselves signed into Adobe CC at home and have left the software running, will that prevent them from using the software at school? Is anyone using a mixture of Adobe user licenses and device licenses at school? Is there any benefit to doing so? For example using device licenses for student PCs and user licenses for staff? That's assuming staff are more likely to remember to sign themselves out than students :-)
