Hi, new setup for work we're trying to do, however have had some problems. We've installed a new 2012 R2 setup with Remote Desktop and RemoteApp, Web Access, Gateway etc on different servers. Works great internally and we can publish Apps and access Desktops. Our internal domain is along the lines of "ad.contoso.com". Our office has a dynamic IP and we are using the .myfirewall.co domain provided by Sophos as a DDNS host which refreshes every 4 minutes. We want to publish RD Gateway for users over port 433, we're not worried about certificate errors as we can fix this by deploying the certificate via Group Policy. However, we are confused regarding the setup and how to get it all working over the internet. We want all RemoteApps/Desktops to be accessible over SSL over the internet, however forwarding port 433 to the gateway does nothing, as it's not on the same server as the web role. We are confused at the setup also, as our AD FQDN is internal only and doesn't resolve in the public DNS records for obvious reasons?! What do I have to do to get this working? You can be general with instructions, or specific to Sophos XG if you know! First time we're doing a setup like this, however want this to work. Any ideas you've got, let me know! Thanks, Whistler.

I have just replaced the bulb in an Epson EB-X6e Educational Projector. You have to enter a password on start up but we do not have the original projector remote. Does anyone have an original remote they are currently not using and could post out to us to borrow (to get it in working order)? This would be really appreciated as its currently not usable. Thanks

Hi all -I need to find a remote presenter for Powerpoint which has virtual laser pointer software included. I have tried a Samsung Magic Presenter but found multiple issues with it so I am loking for alternatives which do the same job, but there doesn't seem to be much about. Essentially what I am looking for is a hand held remote powerpoint controller, with a software laser not a real one, this is because I need the pointer to be recorded by our lecture capture software. Yes, I know Powerpoint includes a laser pointer tool, but I need it to be on a remote as that is what all our lecturers demand!

Hello Everyone! We are trying to setup an RDS Farm and are confused with what certificates we need to use. Our setup is as follows: Server 1 - Internet Facing (remote.domain.com (joined to domain.local)) - RD Gateway - RD Web Access - RD Licensing - RD Connection Broker Server 2 - Non-Internet Facing (Session1.domain.local) - RD Session Host Server 3 - Non-Internet Facing (Session2.domain.local) - RD Session Host The confusion lies in signing the remoteApps. As they reside on a server that has a .local domain how can I get these to be signed by a Public Certification Authority? We are currently looking a purchasing a Wilcard certificate - *.domain.com and obviously this cannot be used for the session hosts. So my final question is how can I sign these remoteApps so that they can be used externally without any issues. I hope that the above makes sense! Thanks in advance. J.Worth

Hi guys, So after a lot of time spent wrestling with RADIUS at one of my schools we finally have a fairly stable NPS server setup on a win2008r2 box using Aruba Wireless points. There's just ONE thing that's an issue at the moment: If the device (in this example a netbook) goes to sleep/hibernates and tries to connect on waking it gives the messages "Cannot connect to .....". If I leave it for 5 minutes or so and then try to reconnect it's fine. Currently using PEAP/MSCHAPv2. Connection is stable initially and have tested roaming round the school and only get a few drops when pinging a server, mobile devices, iPads etc. all seem to be ok but it's just this 'immediate reconnection' issue that's the problem. Logs in system32\logfiles\ are inconclusive and event viewer doesn't point to anything. Any ideas? EDIT: It appears the problem is a little bigger than previously thought. My clients that have been connected for well over an hour have disconnected and need that few minutes of 'cooling off' before re-establishing connection! Restarting the NPS service doesn't seem to have any affect. Very confusing! Cheers! Chris.

Hello, I'd like to create a single point of entry to our network from the outside and to be able to publish/set up some kind of routing system to access devices/services within. I'm looking at I suppose an ISA style set up but whether this will do what I'm after I don't know; and I'd like some best practice. Things it needs to allow me to do: 1) Single login (authenticated against AD) through some kind of webpage/applet? 2) Allow RDP to 'any' internal IP or have a list of boxes to choose from. 3) Allow HTTP access to 'any' internal IP or have a list of sites/services to choose from. I guess really a VPN solution might be easier, but I'm just wondering whether there is some means of achieving this? I'm imagining it'd need to create some kind of port redirect if I had say 3 open ports on the firewall it could dynamically ssh tunnel or something? Or would it just be easier to have a box running ISA with Terminal Services web connector to RDP to itself and from there to wherever? Many thanks for your time. Kim.

Does anyone know of any software to remote a PC from an Android tablet - I have downloaded a few but they take control of the workstation. The idea behind this is to have a wired machine in the hall to run the projector and sound - but have a tablet to control it. My efforts so far allow me to have the desktop on the tablet screen, however the PC screen changes to a login screen. I need it on both to display to the projector. Has anyone managed to get this sort of thing working? (The tablet is running 4.1 jelly bean).

We use Microsoft UAG 2010 for our staff to run RDP and remote apps on their home computers . From what I'm reading on the Technet website it seems to imply that they don't currently support this using Windows 8 / IE 10? UAG 2010 Service Pack 3 is in the works - Forefront UAG Product Team Blog - Site Home - TechNet Blogs Is it really the case the Microsoft aren't supporting the latest version of their own software or am I missing something ?

Hello Everyone, We are wanting to deploy RemoteApp and RDWeb to allow staff to access SIMS.net remotely. What is the best way of setting this up? I was thinking that we should have one server hosting RD Web Access and RD Gateway (this will be internet facing). We then have another server that will be the session host server for the RemoteApps. Additionally, where should I install the Certificate Authority? When we were doing a test setup, there was an error launching the RemoteApps because the Certificate Revocation List could be found. How do we solve this issue? Lastly, how can we get Single Sign On (SSO) to work properly because we were finding that when logging into RDWeb we then had to enter our username and password again when launching an initial RemoteApp (after this happens subsequent RemoteApps launch without a password prompt)?

Hello! I´m having some problems with setting up a Remote Desktop Web access connection. I´ve installed all the RD roles except for virtualization and broker. I'm not 100% sure that I have configured everything correctly, but I´ve been following a few guides and threads from different forums. I´ll go through my settins from the RemoteApp Manager window: RD Session Host Server Settings: Clients will connect to: remoteserver (I have not typed FQDN or the domain name at all here. Simply the computer name of the RDserver) Port 3389(default) Show a remote desktop connection to this RD Sesstion Host server in RD Web Access Do not allow users to start unlisted programs or initial connection(Recommended) RD Gateway Settings: Set to automatically detect RD Gateway server settings Digital Signature Settings: Created a digital signature which is signed as : FQDN (remoteserver.domain.se) RDP Settings: Custom RDP settings set; - Printers, Clipboard, Supported Plug and Play devices, Disk drivers, Smart cards -Allow font smoothing color 32 bit. Not checked: Use all client monitors... Distribution with RD Web Access The Web Access Computers group is populated with Domain Users All RemoteApp programs are visible in RD Web Access RD Gateway Manager: Resource Authorization Policies; - Default Name, Group: Domain Users, Allowed resources: Access allowed to all network resources, Location: Not Applicable, Port: 3389, Status: Enabled Connection Authorization Policies; - Default Name, Group: Domain Users, Client computer Groups: Not applicable, Status: Enabled ------------------------------------------ I can reach the RDWeb connection just fine internally from the local network its hosted from. But when trying to reach it from an external source(which is the reason I want this) I just get error 404 when trying to access: https:// remoteserver.domain.se/RDWeb I´ve also turned off the whole firewall on my RD server, Added a CNAME value to my webhost for our website(the setting looks something like the following) : remoteserver.domain.se CNAME domain.se The CNAME I was told to add through a GUIDE I used, but I don't know if I set it up correctly. Also added this to my router config: WAN TCP (External port) 443 HTTPS 192.168.20.8(remote server internal IP) (Internal Port) 443 HTTPS Any clues what I might have done wrong?

We have the issue with projector remotes going missing from rooms, we have tried engraving them with the room numbers but they still disappear into other rooms. My thought is to chain them to the board so that they physically cannot be moved but I am not sure how I would go about this without drilling a hole in the remote. Has anyone else encountered any similar problems, if so what did you do to prevent it?

Hi, I'm attempting to use PowerShell to run a command on a remote computer. All the WinRM config requirements have been set through GPO and are applying as far as I can tell. I've also configured the client to enable CredSSP to overcome the "double hop" issue seeing as my command is telling the client to look for a file on a server. The problem I'm getting is upon running the script I receive the following error: This appears to be a trivial message and obvious what's wrong but running Get-WSManCredSSP on the remote computer I get the following which suggests all is setup appropriately and also confirms GPO configuration. Any Ideas?

Any help with the following issues greatly appreciated. User 1 - Can see all her drives and content when she is on remote but when she is in school and logs in normally; all the folders in her drives are empty! So she has to then log on to remote to see anything! User 2 - Can access remote ok but any work she does on remote and saves into the shared drives, does not appear on those drives when she is back in school. To access those files, she then has to log back into remote again. User 3 - Can't see anything in a particular mapped drive on remote. User 4 - Gets problems when trying to save files either on remote or logged in normally at school. Files will not save on anything except on to an external drive such as a USB stick. User 5 - Can't see a folder in a particular mapped drive on remote. All appear to have the correct permissions to the folders drives etc.

I currently use Windows Remote Assistance (msra.exe /expert) to connect to, view and control users' computers if they have a software problem. This works great with users who have roaming profiles - but not for those who have mandatory profiles. When attempting to connect to a user who has a mandatory profile the following error is displayed on the user's screen: "There was a problem starting Remote Assistance Remote Assistance is unavailable for the current user account. If you are using a Windows Guest account try logging in with another account. If you are not using a Guest account, try restarting your machine." The Remote Assistance on the initiator's PC times out after a few minutes. The problem appears not to be our mandatory profile; I have created a new mandatory profile using the 'default' user profile and this still failed. When the ntuser.dat extension was changed to .man the error above was displayed and the connection would not be made. After rebooting the PC, changing the ntuser.man extension to .dat allowed the connection to be made OK. i.e. the problem appears not to lie within the content of the ntuser file or profile, but the way in which Windows interprets the .man extension - apparently placing a restriction on Remote Assistance connections. Does anyone have a solution / suggestions that may lead to a solution to this? We are using Windows 7 64bit Enterprise with all the latest updates. The roaming / mandatory profile is hosted on a share which the users have full control (share & NTFS) over. Thanks in advance, FW.

At Herts for Learning (HfL) we're looking for an e-learning manager to support and shape our expanding capacity to deliver online learning. HfL is the largest school-owned company in the UK and support schools in Hertfordshire and beyond - this is currently through a series of webinars, a county-wide LMS and other tools. This role will be a combination of strategic input & planning and operational hands-on building and management - it reports to the Head of Learning Innovation (me..) and the postholder could find themselves working with anyone from across HfL's 400 employees. Flexibility is key - helping someone with Vimeo uploads in the morning, writing a briefing paper for the HfL exec in the afternoon; supporting large-scale online events & programmes and enabling colleagues to use digital tools to support a whole range of schools, academies and settings. The role is remote-based with - where possible - regular overnight visits to the HfL main office in Stevenage. It's a full-time role but 0.8 (4 days a week) may also be considered. The role can be applied for via: Guardian Jobs Indeed Teach In Herts Closing date is next Tuesday (14th) and (remote) interviews are scheduled for the following week. If you've any questions, feel free to post them here and I'll do my best to answer where I can. (Please note as this isn't a school-sourced job I have contacted EduGeek and submitted invoicing details so that HfL can be invoiced for this post) **APPROVED**

ok, We now have Yeovil College students attending our school. They're required to access their work remotely via RDP using a proper RDP gateway. I'm not a big fan of this idea and I actively block the RDP client from even running for pupils. As I understand it the RDP client can use SSL to connect as well as a dynamic port for RDP. How can I create a firewall rule that would allow the client to only connect to a single ip address? (incoming I could do as I'd know the port and the range to limit) What I need is a block all, except... can windows firewall do that? can I do it by DNS instead of ip? the gateway is "workspace.yeovil.ac.uk" is that all I'd need to unblock? not the final computer "studentdesktop.yeovil.ac.uk" cheers

Hello everyone, We have HAP+ working well. We also have RemoteApps listed on Home Access Plus+ available to staff. My question is there anyway of having SSO so that when a user signs into the HAP+ site, they don't need to enter any credentials to login to a RemoteApp? Thanks in advance. J.Worth

Hi all, I'm looking to deploy C# 2013 to our Win7 computer labs, I think I read somewhere that there were issues with installing just one app, as opposed to the whole VS suite? I just want C# and not C++ or VB, etc. Has anyone done this before, and can you provide any guidance for things to avoid or potential problems? Using a combination of MDT and sccm, so silent install would be preferred method. Also, is it possible to slipstream/integrate Visual Studio 2013 update 1 into the main installer? Can't seem to find anything useful on the web... Thanks very much

We have playingfields that are away from our main campus site which are primarily used by the PE department and the admin staff there who maintain the place. At the moment the only IT kit up there is a couple of laptops and a printer which are netorked together using a slowish (3-4 Meg) BT ADSL Router. At the moment the laptops are setup to connect to our main site and log on in the same way that staff would at home (via Microsoft TMG/UAG). There's been talks of expanding the amount of IT kit there so I've been contemplating what would be involved in setting up the site with direct access to the network here. This obviously raises the question as to whether the ADSL line would be fast enough , should we have some kind of server/domain controller at the site and what other hardware will be required? What kind of setups are others here on the site running in terms of wide area networks?
