[sims] I am unable to add achievements to multiple students
Britton477 posted a topic in MIS Systems
Hi Guys I have a had a nice long look on this forum but cant seem to find anything that is helpful to my situation. Anyway, a teacher at the school I work at is having a issue with SIMS he can't seem to add achievement points to more than one student, any time he selects more than one student it selects just the first one he clicks and its starting to become a issue as it becomes very time consuming. Thank you Aaron Britton- 1 reply

I'd like to know what IT departments and Technicians believe is the hardest thing to manage when it comes to looking after lots of devices within a school or group of schools. is it making sure the devices are all plugged in and charged ready for class? Is it having to fix broken screens and keys on the devices? Is it being told theirs a problem with the devices at a time when the devices are actually needed?

We have a mac system that intergrates with our Domain controller in a sence that it uses the logon credentials for students to access the macs and thats all it should do. However it keeps mounting their H Drive which is there persona area and then seems to fill it up with program settings etc. Given the students only have 250mb is there a way of stopping it or blocking the macs mounting the drives. Thanks

I have been having some problems (lots) with a pair of mirrored disks. These hold our user folders. I replaced one of the disks, and still have a few messages "at risk" etc. Is there an easy way I can copy off the information and user shares etc to another set of mirrored disks? (It is hard to get non-Advanced Format disks now, I would like to be able to set up on two new Advanced Format disks. The current mirror is of course a dynamic volume which doesn't make things any easier.

my new school laptop had SNB software added but when I tried to capture a still from a paused DVD it captured as a live link (it captured the whole screen but displayed part of the image but I could move the image square around to reveal the whole screen - like spotlight!) When I turned the DVD off the images captured blanked out. HELP!

Help needed... I have an iPhone and mobile me. At home it works great but I got it to sync my work outlook and contacts to my phone and home as I forget things if not reminded all the time... My pc at school has the software installed but when it tries to connect it can't. I assume it's something to do with the pc being on the schools network. We run server 2003 and on yhgl. Could this be filtering, the Internet access or ??? Any ideas please as I've not heard anything back from our tech guys.

We have a user using one of the above printers connected locally to her machine. Sometimes, when she prints the printer sits there and does nothing! No error lights, Windows says the printer is printing but it blatently isn't! She has found by switching it off and on again it will then print the job, this is happening more and more as the days go by and she is getting quiet annoyed by it. We have several other of these printers connected in the exact same way, using the same driver and settings and all seem to work fine. I myself have one of these and it's never needed switching off. Any ideas? Cheers

Does anyone know how to get sims.net reports to output the following: Pupil full name, Year, Reg group, address, parent/contact name, priority, number I thought of doing it this way: Pupil name, year, reg, address, UPN - In one report Parent name, priority, contact name, home number, mobile number, work number, other number, UPN But if there are multiple contacts, it doesn't output the UPN each time, it leaves it blank. Any ideas?

I've been experimenting with psshutdown recently to automatically shutdown stations I have listed in a file. I have a .txt file listing the stations in each room and another .bat file for each room. e.g bio_lab1.bat is simply: psshutdown.exe @bio_lab1.txt -k This works for stations at the start of the .txt file, but then starts to ignore/timeout the remaining stations with the message: "Timeout accessing //strangeways/station123 If //strangeways/station123 is already performing a shutdown operation you must abort it before issuing a different command" I've tried cutting the top off the .txt file so it just had the last two stations -and it worked. Has anyone any suggestions? P.S. running an RM CC3 setup - RM's tool too slow for what I want.

The front listing of the forums states that the mac forum has 222 threads, but inside the forum it says there are only 21. It looks more like the prior should be true and there is content missing somewhere.

Hi, we have a Windows Server 2008 R2 FRD and Windows 7 Clients. One of the noticeable problems with Windows 7 on a domain is the annoying library options which show on the left hand side of an explorer window. It causes chaos for users as they are able to save work in local libraries rather than their shared network drives. I made the necessary changes via Group Policy to get shot of the libraries. - See below.. http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g179/talksr/rm/gpol.png When a system which has the policy applied, is logged in, this is what they see in their explorer window.... http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g179/talksr/rm/folders.png Perfect! But, the head is not happy with the way she now has to browse her folders. The management team would rather they are able to browse at least their my documents (network share N:\) from the old fashioned windows xp'ish tree view which would also be in the same area on the left as the now blank libraries area. Is there a way to add this just for their N:\ drive? Any info/help would be really great

I currently use Windows Remote Assistance (msra.exe /expert) to connect to, view and control users' computers if they have a software problem. This works great with users who have roaming profiles - but not for those who have mandatory profiles. When attempting to connect to a user who has a mandatory profile the following error is displayed on the user's screen: "There was a problem starting Remote Assistance Remote Assistance is unavailable for the current user account. If you are using a Windows Guest account try logging in with another account. If you are not using a Guest account, try restarting your machine." The Remote Assistance on the initiator's PC times out after a few minutes. The problem appears not to be our mandatory profile; I have created a new mandatory profile using the 'default' user profile and this still failed. When the ntuser.dat extension was changed to .man the error above was displayed and the connection would not be made. After rebooting the PC, changing the ntuser.man extension to .dat allowed the connection to be made OK. i.e. the problem appears not to lie within the content of the ntuser file or profile, but the way in which Windows interprets the .man extension - apparently placing a restriction on Remote Assistance connections. Does anyone have a solution / suggestions that may lead to a solution to this? We are using Windows 7 64bit Enterprise with all the latest updates. The roaming / mandatory profile is hosted on a share which the users have full control (share & NTFS) over. Thanks in advance, FW.

Morning everyone, Having a little problem with a new RIS server I am building. The previous techician build one the other year and since the server started playing up I decided to rebuild it. Everything seems to be working. I have my flat CD image on the server. I have made sure the AD/DHCP is aware of everything. The machine starts up - F12 blah blah - type in the the username for building (on the Custom option), give the machine name and away it goes. The machine connects to the server and starts installing Windows XP. All the drivers go on (set this up fine). The whole thing then stops and tells me that it cannot connect to the Domain and I am not sure why. It has already connected to the domain and has been put in the correct part of the school OU. I'm thinking I must have missed something somewhere but cannot see what. Any ideas? Many thanks Gareth

I was just having a poke at the eeepc and it appears that the keyboard only clips in with 3 tiny little silver clips. These can be undone with anything pointy like a pencil. I can see kids poking them and breaking the ribbon cable that attaches the keyboard to the laptop. Anyone else see a potential problem with this?

Evening Everyone, Seriously hoping someone can provide me with some assistance because I'm about to lose the plot Quick background info for you all. The admin office have just purchased a new PC to replace an old admin PC that's been used by the administrator for the past 4 years. After abit of hunting around, and given a very tight budget to work with I located this unit "ASUS K5130-UK016S".The PC has been purchased and came installed with Windows 8.1 Home Edition 64bit. The PC unfortunately was unboxed and installed while I was away from the office so I was not present when the initial set up took place, however when I returned that's when my problem started. The Sharp MX-M202D copier which connects to the PC via a USB cable (they wouldn't pay for the networked version) had been connected to the PC, and some drivers installed, but its not working.. I don't know what drivers were installed but I'm assured they were the ones from the Sharp website. I've listed below the steps I've already tried, Removed the printer from the system, and went to the Sharp website myself. Located and downloaded the latest PCL6 Windows 8 64bit drivers, installed them, rebooted the computer as instructed by the install, plugged the copier into the computer once the reboot had finished. Windows detects the printer is plugged in, and then promptly lists it cant find a suitable driver. I've tried the automatic update to search online for a driver, but Windows states no driver can be found online. I've tried downloading the other drivers listed on the Sharp website. I've tried manually installing the copier and manually setting the USB port the copier is plugged into. I've tried installing the copier using the original install CD it shipped with. When i tried the CD, the scanner part of the copier was installed ok and was fully working, however the printer still doesn't show up. I've tried disabling driver signing incase the driver is causing Windows8.1 issues. I've tried connecting the copier back upto the original computer, sharing the printer, and then trying to install the copier from the other computer. This method fails as it still states it is unable to locate a suitable driver for the install. I have also tried using a printer migration tool to zip all the printers installed on the original computer and move them over to the new system. The copy worked ok, however when I plugged the copier into the new computer, I still didn't have a working copier on the new computer. I've spend the last 2 days on and off working on this, plus time on Saturday and I really really dont know what to do next for the best. Really stuck and desperate to get the copier installed onto the new computer, so I can free the old one up for redeployment to another role. Can anyone please give me some suggestions on what I can try next, or if anyone else has had similar issues with their Sharp MX-M202D printer on Windows 8.1. Thanks everyone. Neil

We're experiencing a peculiar problem that FrogTrade don't seem to be know where to start with at the moment but I'm hoping someone here may have seen similar and can offer a few pointers that may help. Basically, if a staff member - either teaching or staff profile - attempts to create or edit a page, they can't. If a file is selected, then "Edit" selected, the page opens in view mode. There is no frog toolbar and no access to the edit functionality. No bricks, no nothing. Just the page and whatever was in it before. Not everyone is affected, but this problem is spreading slowly through our Frog system. It began with one user, and now we have more than a dozen unable to create or edit content. I've found that if Active Directory Authentication is turned off for an affected user, this problem goes away instantly - the affected user can then create / edit pages and sees the Frog toolbar and gets access to the bricks. Re-enable AD Authentication and within a nominal period of time (anything from instantly to around 30 minutes) the problem returns. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Im new to the forum here but i have been working for my college for 3 years now and we have always used RM software. (Not that im a big fan) We have CC4 installed on 5 campuses. Over the last few months we have been having issues at one campus. When a user staff or student with a basic account plugs a usb device into the pc, be it a usb pen or camera, tablet it asks to install the driver. This is the generic windows xp driver. It should install by itself, but it asks for a administrator to install it. A logon box pops up for the local admin to type in details. Now i have an admin account so when i plug a device in it does it all by itself no need for me to type anything in. But if the user takes that device to another campus and plugs it into another CC4 station (its the same build and same hardware) it will install no problem, with out asking for admin to install. Has anyone else experianced this? RM are not very helpfull and i know there are issues with CC4, you can read about it all over the web, but they deny it and say it all works perfect. They seem reluctant to let anyone know there is a problem.

Hi everyone! First post here- nice to know there is a community to help! Now, off to the question- we have a Windows 2008 R2 running GPO. Three policies are in place- default domain, staff and pupil policy. The problem occurs when we try to change the passwords. The option which lies in Computer Configuration (Enabled)-->Policies-->Windows Settings-->Security Settings-->Account Policies/Password Policy "Password must meet complexity requirements". It's disabled in every policy but the system still moans when we try to change passwords in AD for students to something like "1234". According to this stupid policy, the password has to be 8 characters long, have a capital and a number. We are having organisational issues with this since every lesson Year 7, 8, 9 come up and want their passwords reset. We cannot do any password we like even for staff and IT support. I have spent hours staring into the settings and I cannot figure out what is wrong with this. PS. This is my first job as a System admin (I'm fresh from University) and I'm using GPO for the first time too. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey all, I've got an issue crop up which has been bugging me for the past week now where our Oki 8800 has lost the NIC that is built into it and won't connect to the network. I've read up online and the few helpful articles I can find suggest that when it has been factory reset it cna lose it. Does anyone have any firmware updates or anything useful that can help me get this working again? The OKI website is just useless Thanks in advance

I was wondering if anyone here had a Meru Wireless installed and could offer some advice I'm having some strange happenings with our wireless in that some laptops just decide they cannot connect to the wireless network. If I log in as the local admin, then it connects no problem with no manual connecting from me, just connects itself. Not being able to track the problem down (other than maybe an issue with the number of laptops attempting to connect at once, around 30/40) my other thought was maybe the ESS Profile wasn't set up correctly. Any help would be gratefully received.

Looking at device manager the network card is a Realtek PCIe gigabit ethernet and the dell site says it's an RTL8111DL Have tried a universal ghost driver (which was fine on Vostro 1520 laptops) but didn't work Thanks

Hi 'geekers! I've posted this same prob to the FOG forums but last time I posted there I got no response and I'm in a bit of a hurry to get Fog running properly again so I can't chance not having a reply by tomorrow so I wanted to post it here as I know there a a lot of FOG fans and users on these forums. Before I ask my question- is there not an irc channel for FOG? I've not been able to find one which seems odd as FOG deserves to be massively popular from what I've seen so far. Also, I'm pretty sure STP is turned off but I'll need to double check that. I did have FOG 0.27 working very nicely on our Ubuntu 9.04 Server install until I did an dist-upgrade of Ubuntu last week and now I can only access the FOG PXE menu on a select few machines whereas before it was working on all machines on our LAN. After trying a few different things I decided to totally re-install Ubuntu server and FOG but the problem persists. We have one room full of computers that were all imaged using FOG but now none of them get issued a DHCP address so you can't access the FOG PXE menu but you can access the FOG menu on some other machines of different parts of our network still. The settings on our DHCP server have not changed from when we successfully imaged that full room and the fog server has the same static IP as when it was working. I've tried turning DHCP on and off on our switches but it hasn't made any difference to the once-working machines so I'm presuming Ubuntu have broke something in a recent update?? Thanks for your help! Dan

I am making a program that uses the WebBrowser control to display a picture as a form of "online advertism" that can be easly updated effectivly using a website, such as Xfire ... how ever ... when I add this control and use it, the page never loads ... it will always say "Navigation to the webpage was canceled" or "This program cannot display the webpage" when refreshed. At first I thought it may be a problem with my PC, so I then copied the files over to my laptop and had the same problem ... a while back a jumper switch kept turning off on our main board ... at the end of it all I reset my hub because when the power came back on it wasnt connecting to the internet, I doubt that would have anything to do with this as the WebBrowser control uses IE? ... and my IE works fine ... before I finally decide to give up and blame my hub for the problem, is there anything I could try to do in VB2008 itself? Thanks.
