Hello, Just after some general feelings if VLEs are still a vital part of a successful school? Couldn't you just have something like Home Access Plus so students/staff can access personal files and then a third party application such as SchoolComms for MIS data and reports? I ask because at my current place the VLE has never been actively used. Just a file access system if I am honest even though I invested a great amount of time developing them. Any thoughts? William

Surely there will be an easy simple way........... I came from a Frog school which allowed all staff to login to the VLE and see all the network drives so they could theoretically work from home on all the schools data and access what they required. Is there a way or a product which will allow me to implement this at the school I am now at? I have a VPN connection set up for staff with school laptops but as you can imagine not everyone has those! Thanks in advance!!

Hi everyone, We are in the process of moving to the new Frog platform from Frog 3. If anyone has used it before you will know that youtube is a big part of its resources. Overall, we have youtube blocked for non-sixth form students. Is anyone aware of a way to allow defined videos to be viewed, but block youtube overall? Seems pretty impossible but you might surprise me. We use Smoothwall to block youtube. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Rob

Another popular frog post We have just paid for it and awaiting the ISA software to turn up to do the final prep before the Design of frog starts. Just wondering what other schools have created so far in Frog? We have a few staff asking about online Detention forms, behavior records (similar to our databases). The beviour record is also used to report CET calls (SMT) which then sends an email to the relevant Key Stage Team. We IT peeps are after creating our Help Centre on there as well, this is currently on sharepoint 3.0 - free Having looked around so far it does all seem possible but just wondering what other places have created so far. If so do you offer them free or cost? Our Frog is going to be heavily used and we do plan on so much being put on there, we understand there may be limitations. I my self have a huge list of stuff I want to go on there and all my spare* time I will be developing Frog. I do have a ton of other things to do though.

Hi all, First post here. I've completely run out of ideas. I'm a VLE Manager for five schools in Northumberland. 3000 students, 800 members of staff. Before I was appointed, the Trust decided to purchase Frog. I've spent the past 6 months project planning and developing, getting the staff on. So on, so forth. I've put off getting the students on to the platform because contrary to what I'm telling staff/students, Frog has zero ability to monitor student behaviour. It's OK in terms of checking a user's history - nothing can be deleted from the platform, an individual user's e-mail/status update/wall post history can be seen/deleted. Discussion Forums aren't such a big deal either. However, if Student X decides to swear on the social networking aspect of the platform, or decides to bully Student Y, I won't know about it unless a friend of Student X reports him. Only a user's friends can see their social networking activities on the platform - even though I'm a moderator. Partially due to our catchment area, partially due to school ethos, this simply won't work. We can't, in any way, rely on students reporting each other. Suggestions to date have been... Close the social networking - possible, but this is my absolute last line of defence, as I want to use these features to engage our students Set up a proxy to filter POST/GET data - not possible with our current network infrastructure Use our existing monitoring software (Policy Central) to scan the network - will be doing that during the day, but the number of false positives is absolutely vast and it doesn't cover Frog access outside of our schools Run a PHP script on the MySQL database - I could do that easily and effectively, but I have no access to the Frogserver's MySQL DBs. We would have to sign a waiver for that, which would mean Frog offering limited support and possibly manual platform updates. So, I'm wondering if anyone else has any ideas? I was thinking along the lines of a website scanner, but I'm not even sure what that is! I think I've got a search engine robot in my head. Something which follows links and checks each page's source code for a list of bad words. That would suffice! Hmm, I wonder if we could embed Google Analytics then use that... Thanks in advance.

Hello all, I hope someone can help me with a problem that is driving me crazy! We have just purchased frog and are in the process of getting the design and overall look of the VLE finalised. However, since I apparently have enough time, I thought "why dont I design some mock-ups for departmental sites (mini sites)". So I have come up with some ideas and now just realised that they may not be easy to create in Frog. It may be possible to create and use widgets or may even be simple enough to create in Frog. But we have not got the Frog server installed so I can't play around with it to check. I have tried contacting frog but not recieved a clear answer. I have attached two of the designs and would really really really appreciate it, if someone can let me know if they will be easy to recreate on Frog. Thank you!

I've been trying to get the Nivo Slider (Nivo Slider - The World's Most Popular jQuery & WordPress Image Slider) working on a new FROG page but just cannot get it working at all. I can get the slider showing okay in the page but the Page Curl seems to be broken by the code used in the slider and it just sits in the bottom left of the preview. The previewed slider seems to use a fair amount of CPU so I'm thinking some of the code is causing an issue somewhere! Has anybody got one working with the Page Curl still intact on a FROG page? Did you have to add in anything special to make it work? I have seen it the slider on another's school page but they had somehow hidden the page curl so I'm wondering if its somehow just getting rid of that is the solution? Thanks in advance!

This summer the secondary school I am a technician at will be switching from Moodle to Frog. I have read up all the post on here, and elsewhere about Frog, but wanted to hear back about some of the problems that others have encountered when switching VLE. I have read that some people had problems with using Frog with IE 9, and haven't found out if such problems have been resolved. Just any notes that anyone has on the set-up/transfer from Moodle or other VLE's, and what work can be expected would be greatly appreciated. Also we have renewed our licence with ClickView, which integrates with Frog as well, any notes on this would also be appreciated. Last of all will Frog be able to integrate with library software, we are currently using autolib library software, again any notes would be appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and thank you very much in advance if you reply.

Has anyone implemented the Frog Parent Assessment module? There are no helpful instructions on how to configure your Aspects in SIMS in order to get them to work with Frog. I could really do with visiting a school that has it up and running, just to see where we are going wrong! Is there anyone who has got it working that would mind me popping if for a look? Many thanks.

We have just had Frog installed and everything is working apart from the drive redirection. This is logged with their helpdesk but i was wondering if anyone else had experienced the issue so could point us in the right direction. I have edited the share permissions, changed the link etc but it is as if the system is asking for permission to the frog server and not the server the drive is on. We have only had it a couple of days and our build doesnt even take place for a month but if i could get this bit working then i can start to show the members of staff who are going to be using frog in the first instance what it is about and let them start experimenting with it. Any help would be great.

We currently have a problem editting pages in Frog - the toolbar simply won't appear. However, disable AD authentication for a user and the same page can then be editted as normal. Re-enable AD authentication and within minutes the same page cannot then be editted by the same user. After much head-scratching, Frog second line support eventually enabled the "Store encrypted copy of Active Directory password" in the appropriate login profile settings and the problem seems to go away with AD authentication enabled. However I am a bit puzzled as to why this particular setting is needed as it suggests to me an issue with their Active Directory authentication module that relies on the local storage of authentication details to fall back on or for particular actions. If other Frog site admins have a moment, could you check to see what your profile settings are in relation to storing copies of AD passwords please? Particularly in relation to the Staff and Teacher login profiles. I would also be interested to see if this problem could be replicated on your sites by (if it's ticked of course!) unticking the "store copy of password" setting, waiting a bit, and seeing what happens. Thanks in advance!

Happy new year everyone, hope we had a great Xmas and break. For those who got one! Right, FROG, this is something we have been highly interested and have looked around and really does seem the best option. We looked at Moodle but in all honesty none of us have that kind of time and talent. For those who are using frog can you tell me, what you use it for, how well it does it and are you happy with the product and support. Also have you created any new *widgets or apps for it etc and again what are they? If there are any flaws again please say, we have a Gov meeting soon in about 2-3 weeks not long after BETT and we have seen the demo, used the demo and very impressed. So apart of this Gov meeting we are hoping to know as much as possible to persuade them to go for it. Personally I think FROG is something special and the ideas of it all is simply moodle style where "anything" can be done but with less know how. Any opinions on FROG is fine, ideas, so simply anything! Thank you

Hi Everyone The SLT decided to not renew the maintenance fee for Frog last year as the new head thought it was too costly. Well, I need to change some network details on the external NIC, but I cannot log into the Maintenance Console on the Frog Server. Frog have informed me that they would need to charge £750.00 to provide me with the root password!!! I have tried to get around it by using SystemRescueCD and change the network card details there, but not managed to change the settings yet. I was just wondering if anyone could advise me on a workaround on this or if they have been left in a similar position by Frog? Look forward to your replies

...and where do they hide them in the toolkit! I'm trying (and failing dismally) to try & find the 'PEP Homework View' page that is created when you insert the 'PEP Homework View' brick. I'm pretty sure it's a widget of some sort and I want it to display 100% across the page NOT in it's default, tiny, cramped display. ALSO does anyone know HOW to display JUST a list of homeworks set to individual pupils in the parental portal. I don't want to display the complete feed, just homeworks that have been set & their deadlines. Frog help desk......slow & vague.
