Hello, one and all! My apologies if this has been asked or answered before, I couldn't find it anywhere on here.I'm an IT apprentice at a PRU in Nottingham, and I co-manage SIMS with my line manager. A little while ago, I was asked to sort out the current working out grades on SIMS. My only two problems are thus: I am using Hosted SIMS, which is just a royal pain in the richard, and everywhere I've looked has mentioned a separate SIMS assessment program, which neither myself or my line manager have heard of or used. Any advice or pointers on how to get this sorted?

Hello all Our reports are created in SIMS and are sent home through a mail merge (with the help of a number of tools such as A-PDF and Mail Merge Toolkit). It's a very detailed and long process so we are looking for alternative ways to get an electronic copy of the report home. We are happy with creating the report within SIMS. We don't have In Touch as we have other communication packages but may be open to purchasing it, although I imagine it would be very costly to use it just a few times a year. We have Class Charts but their reports facility is too basic at the moment. Any recommendations or advice appreciated. Thank you

I am working on a modified version of the system Parental Report 1 (Assessment grid - no target column). The main report is selecting values from the Year8 template/screen fine and one end of year value from the previous Year7 template. The issue I have is that for one subject, there is no previous data (effectively we have a new subject). For all other subjects we are displaying the a EndofYear7 value fine, but where the value is a missing value, I want to show an assessment value from the current Year8 instead. A similar situation may arise (for any subject in fact) where a pupil joined in Year8 and again as no Year7 data, I want to show instead the Year8 value. I'm interested in suggestions for an approach. I've tried a options of routes but not yet successfully yet.

Can anyone help me. Was there a project with the aim of creating an extra for moodle where a student could upload a piece of work and others could make comments on it. Peer assessment? I think there was also an assessment criteria or mark scheme running by the side of it? Thanks

I'm looking to learn from other schools that are Progresso users at primary level. In particular, I'm keen to see how you track and report at EYFS, KS1 and KS2 stages and how that feeds through to reporting. We are an all through-school and we manage Secondary level well, produce PDF reports that we make available via the parental portal. We are looking at replicating something similar at primary level. Anyone able to help?

Has anyone implemented the Frog Parent Assessment module? There are no helpful instructions on how to configure your Aspects in SIMS in order to get them to work with Frog. I could really do with visiting a school that has it up and running, just to see where we are going wrong! Is there anyone who has got it working that would mind me popping if for a look? Many thanks.

I've been asked to try and incorporate attendance data in some marksheets for Form Tutors. Obviously I'm able to include Absence % and such, but I'd really like to be able to count, or at least make a note of, if anyone has had a late mark. Anyone done anything like this? Failing that, can I include this sort of data on additional columns within the register sheets themselves?

Hi all, I'd like to be able to set up a system on SIMS whereby I can remind teaching staff of assessment deadlines, similar to an alarm system on personal organiser software. Currently we are using the school diary and inserting the reminder as a multiday event which seems really inelegant to me (and clogs up the diary as well). I know that SIMS does have the facility to set up reminders but it seems only to cover student related issues (free school meal eligibility, part-time attendance and medical), SEN issues and Admission reminders. I need to remind staff about assessments and interims. I also want to ensure that it is visible to all teaching staff. I know that I could send a daily message but I don't consider that to be very elegant either and likely to be ignored after the first two anyway. Any bright ideas would be most welcome. Many thanks in advance. RS

Hello, I have completed the SIMS summer upgrade and now when I click the narrow columns button on a Marksheet and then click the Save button, SIMS hangs. I have tried a couple of different Marksheets and got the same not saving issue. I've logged a call with our SIMS support but wondered if anyone else is experience this problem? Edit SIMS fails to save any changes. This is scary as staff are preparing for the new year with all teachers back in on Friday. Can anyone please advise? I've updated the logged call with our SIMS support but would appreciate any help. Thanks

Am so frustrated hoping someone can help... Doing end of year IPRS in SIMS, Curriculum group year 9 have a couple of subjects that is optional in year 9 so only some of the year need a result. The staff member has input their data which has come through fine on the summary sheet however all those students that got a mark for that subject last year during the Summer 2 result set are also getting a mark that has been pulled through from when they were in year 8. I have fixed the issue by changing the individual reports on the word template to only receive data from within a set date range so the printout to parents will be fine. But the year team who are checking for anomalies before we print have got a template summary sheet that has all these additional grades when they do not even do that subject so it is confusing for everyone. have tried all sorts of date range filtering but they haven't worked as yet Any suggestions?

Hi folks, First post here, not sure if I'm in the right area for this so apologies!!! We've been having a discussion in our office after being informed by some teachers that controlled assessments in our Academy are being done in different ways by different teachers! We do at present have system set up and although it works for now, it's a bit long winded and causes us a lot of 'admin' work which we think we could delegate off to the teacher in charge. Now, we've been having a play around with Sharepoint Services to see if we can do something more long term instead of faffing about the way we do presently. I just wondered how other people do it if anyone is willing to share ideas etc. We really don't want to reinvent the wheel and there have got to be some more simpler ways. I'll let you know how we get on! Thanks in advance Ian

Is it just me, or is there no communication between central government and the MIS companies? We need to implement 2 big initiatives in the next 12 months and the only way I can see of doing it is to pay for a custom web app that does the job properly, with the UI and reporting we need and which somehow (and we've all read plenty about the problems involved in this) talks to the MIS... Example #1: Has anyone found a sensible way of recording assessments under the new APP scheme? I talked to a Serco rep about it several months ago and he wasn't aware of its existence. "ALFIE", their KS3 assessment tool, seems to be an application for making tests, which kind of misses the point completely. We will be reduced to paper I think. Example #2: Online Reporting (in place for September 2010 please) requires parents to have access to progress/attainment, attendance and behaviour information. In Eportal we have Lesson by Lesson, we have Behaviour Events, but the best we can do with assessment is a grade or level. We would like therefore to record more detail about individual assessments (i.e. some free text) and do away with annual reports. Unfortunately, as far as I can see both Serco and Capita still see reports to parents as a piece of prose written termly or once a year. The last Serco rep I spoke to recommended Markbook, but I can't see how that lets us enter text (e.g. a next step). Thinking even further ahead, shouldn't teachers be able to specify an activity online or on the VLE as a next step? That would just need a field which allowed hyperlinks... I suppose the frustrating thing is that we shouldn't be suggesting developments - we should be wowed by what the companies themselves come up with! Isn't that meant to be the point of a competitive industry? Clever solutions to problems? I can't believe high level meetings don't take place between the companies and civil servants/ministers to let them know what schools are going to need to implement. Any schools with the answers (or indeed reps from the MIS firms telling me I've got it wrong) please reply...

Hi all, Is it possible to enter pupils assessment progress for before they joined our school into SIMS? We basically have really high pupil mobility, so comparing long term pupils with pupils who join later on would be really useful. So for example if Joe Bloggs started in Year 2 - could we enter his assessment data from year 1 & FS from his previous school? Personally it sounds like it would mess up SIMS and our assessment data, any ideas?

Hello, I am trying to create an exam entries and results broadsheet Template in SIMS Assessment. I have selected an exams entry aspect but when I try to pick this year's season resultset, June (Summer) 2018, it is missing from the list. I can see previous years' June (Summer) resultsets and the June (Summer) 2019 resultset. I have checked the following is correct: Go to Tools | Performance | Options and check that View Exams and Toggle Global Exams Filter are both ticked. I created a SIMS .net report showing all fields for all Resultsets beginning June (Summer). The field Key Stage (Resultset) under CESThirdPartyFields had the value F for June (Summer) 2018 but the values were empty for all the other Resultsets. I think this F in Key Stage (Resultset) is the cause because I found another exam season resultset that has this F and I can't see it when I try to use it with an aspect in an Assessment Template.I have logged a call but wondered if anyone else has come across this? The only other difference I can spot is that the June (Summer) 2018 season starts on 09/05/2018 instead of 01/05/2018. Can this date be edited without affecting exam entries and results? Thanks.

Hello I am trying to import Key Stage results from a CTF (from another piece of software). The results are not importing. When I open the CTF I notice that the Result Qualifier is NL, if I change this to NF (like I see on CTFs coming out of SIMS) the result imports. Does anyone out there know what a Result Qualifier is? and what the meaning of NL / NF is? Many thanks

Hi all I am trying to create a template in SIMS to track pupil deviation across all subjects at a particular reporting point. I want to create a formula to work out how many times a pupil has a particular deviation, eg. -2, 0 etc. When I select GRADE TALLY COLUMNS, the deviation columns in my spreadsheet don't show as an option to select which I think is because they are Marks-Integer. Is there a way of getting around this? I thought about copying each deviation column using the EQUALS formula to create it into a grade but I'm not sure how this would work. Any suggestions would be greately appreciated!! Thanks! Lianne

Hi All, Think this is a long shot but thought I would post anyway. I run assessment at a large sec. modern and currently produce a report (ring bound booklet) containing lists of specific pupils (pupils on target 5A*-C, pupils with <85% attendance, pupils arriving with KS2 L4 etc) along with headlines and various bits of analysis. I have an excel spreadsheet set up which has a tab for the raw data (targets and attainment) and these feed in to the analyses to give me the headlines etc. The arduous part comes in when printing the report. There are 20 focus groups in all, which we have to filter from the raw data to start with on whatever the criteria is, then hide out the columns we dont need, then rename the header to say the name of the group then print page by page. For 20 focus groups this takes about a day or so to produce the whole thing. This is far too long and I can't help thinking there must be a quicker way. Any feedback or input would be gratefully recieved. I've spent so long staring at it I've lost any sense of objectivity or idea!!! Charlotte
