Hello, one and all! My apologies if this has been asked or answered before, I couldn't find it anywhere on here.I'm an IT apprentice at a PRU in Nottingham, and I co-manage SIMS with my line manager. A little while ago, I was asked to sort out the current working out grades on SIMS. My only two problems are thus: I am using Hosted SIMS, which is just a royal pain in the richard, and everywhere I've looked has mentioned a separate SIMS assessment program, which neither myself or my line manager have heard of or used. Any advice or pointers on how to get this sorted?

I have inherited a nightmare of a database which, if there is no solution, is going to take months to sort out. The problem is compounded by other issues which I will lay out here: Firstly: Last year we became a new school. Unfortunately we could not get our database up and running early so historic Aspects/Templates together with the attached Grade Sets were imported from the old school database into the new. The Head at the time was happy with what we had so it caused us no major issues. From September this year we will have a new Head, with new ideas all of which she would like implemented by the end of the month. The biggest headache we have in all the subject grade sets are not 'our own' but are our old schools and it the grade set for each and every subject she would like us to add to. I know how do this the long winded way by making new gradesets/aspects adding them to our templates and transferring the results over but with 50+ subjects and hundreds of tmeplates this is going to take a while. Does anyone know if there anyway that this could be sorted painlessly? Before anyone answers the compounding problem is that any grade sets/aspects, well anything really, we make are never our own but are always marked CES Installation. However once we have made them and they are marked incorrectly we can still change them. I have brought this up 3 time with different members of Capita and they all say 'that's strange' but never do anything about it! A little bit about me. I am pretty good with what I know, when it comes to computers, but if it is too technical I would probably need it spelt out. Thanks for reading and if you can help doubly thank you. Tan

A colleague is working on an Excel spreadsheet for Target GCSE grades, she has formulas for most things, however, we really need to see if there is a formula for the time taking bit! Each Grade in columns C through to Z are worth a certain amount of points, (A1=58; A= 52; B=46; C=40; D=34;E=28;F=22;G=16 which is the GCSE point scoring system) column AG is the total scored for all the GCSEs taken – for example Student 2 scored 372, he took 9 GCSE, but we want the score for the top 8 grades, so we subtract the lowest GCSE score which is ‘D’ worth 34 points this is shown in column AH. Total Points score subtract AF-2 should equal Total Points Score (Best 8) *Could a formula be created to work out the score of the bottom GCSE grades, ie: if they took 10 GCSE’s you would want a formula to subtract the lowest 2 grade scores and insert the result in column AH. *Could a formula be created to subtract the AF-2 from the Total Points Scored? I’m afraid I’ve never had to work out such complicated formula’s but if someone can help that would be wonderful Oh and if you don't read this until even months later and you think you can help, please reply, because it would just be wonderful to have the formula for future GCSE Gradesheets. Thank you Kirsty KPformula.xls

Hello, I was wondering if anyone can help me. I'm a newbie to SIMS and with no handover have basically had to use the guides to train myself in my new position. Anyway, anything runs fine, but we are needing to add results populated in the marksheets (in aspects) to a report. I have got to the Assessment option and added it, and used the red book to filter with "contains" however it is just showing a count. I would like to be able to pull through the last three cycle target grades for each student. Could someone advise me how, what am I doing wrong. Much appreciated!!
