onedrive OneDrive sync app limit increasing to 1 million files
itskdog posted a topic in Cloud Services
Just saw this message on my M365 message centre: https://admin.cloud.microsoft/?ref=MessageCenter/:/messages/MC1294528 Requirements are as follows: (Most notable parts on the sync app config that people might not have in place, is enabling KFM, syncing SharePoint only through shortcuts, and setting up OneDrive sync reports on config.office.com) Looks good, will apply to most of our devices, just not the DfE laptops from COVID and some older devices that are still on 8GB RAM. I do wonder if this also makes for a faster sync time, or if it will take even longer to sync 1,000,000 files if you have them. -
Hi All, I wonder if you can help. We have around 30 SharePoint sites and by default under Policies / Sharing we have this set to "Content can be shared with: Existing Guests". We wish to keep this by default however we now require one single new SharePoint site where we require the sharing policy to be with Anyone. I have created the iste but I am unable to select Share with Anyone in that site settings, it is greyed out. I am aware I can amend the organisational setting to "Anyone", and then go through each of our existing sites and set sharing manually to Existing Guests. This will then allow me to enable anyone sharing against the single nw site. However before I do this, is there any way that I can set this single new site with its sharing anyone permission without amending the organisational setting (this would be prefered as it will be more secure for the existing sites). Any thoughts or guidance very much appreciated. Thanks, MM

SharePoint / OneDrive domain rename in an education tenant
jakeives posted a topic in Cloud Services
Hi All, I'm working with a very large academy trust who have recently rebranded. I wondered if any of you have renamed your SharePoint URL per the guidance here: Change your SharePoint domain name - SharePoint in Microsoft 365 | Microsoft Learn and have any real-world stories to tell following completion of this? We're concerned that renaming the SharePoint domain will break certain aspects of class teams. Look forward to hearing from you Thanks a lot- 8 replies

Excluding any hub associations, could I please ask how other schools are designing their SharePoints. I have set up separate SharePoint sites for curriculum subjects (Maths, English etc), but was curious about the administration side. We have an Admin Portal network drive and I could replicate this with an Administration site with sub folders for say "Catering", "Facilities", "Admissions", or is the best option to separate these into sites too?

Hi, We have recently rolled out a new 365 Tennant (migrated from an old Tenant) and I want users to be able to access a Teams enabled SharePoint Library on their Windows PCs from explorer via the shortcut rather than sync method. Is there a good document on how to set this up even MS webpages seem out of date due to interface changes. I'm completely new to 365 and MS cloud in general. Found this https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/add-shortcuts-to-shared-folders-in-onedrive-for-work-or-school-d66b1347-99b7-4470-9360-ffc048d35a33 but feel there is more to it than this and feel i need more explanation/background to how SharePoint libraries work with endpoints etc. Also found this https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/office/enable-publishing-features-479677a6-8b33-4ac7-907d-071c1c7e4518#ID0EBD=Web but i get an "something went wrong error" but I think this is because this is a legacy thing now and is not possible with "new" libraries

I have a room booking system set up on SharePoint and we have lists for each room. Staff can add items to these lists, view each others and delete their own. I have one list that was set up exactly the same way as all the others, but for this particular list, people (including myself as site admin) can only delete items from the AllItems.aspx view. When we view it using calendar.aspx there is no delete button for any items on the list. When we hover our mouse over days in the calendar, the little 'Add' link doesn't appear either. Opening the same list and altering the url ending to AllItems.aspx rather than calendar.aspx DOES allow deletions. The calendar view works as expected for all other lists in the same site. The permissions seem different for each view, is that even possible? This is SharePoint online and we haven't done any tweaking of permission levels at all. The list doesn't have versioning or retention policies. Has anyone else come across this?

Hello, Just after some general feelings if VLEs are still a vital part of a successful school? Couldn't you just have something like Home Access Plus so students/staff can access personal files and then a third party application such as SchoolComms for MIS data and reports? I ask because at my current place the VLE has never been actively used. Just a file access system if I am honest even though I invested a great amount of time developing them. Any thoughts? William

Is it possible to rename SharePoint 2013's storage to something a bit easier for end-users to understand? When have on-premises SharePoint and the storage area was originally called SkyDrive Pro, abbreviated to SkyDrive. This was confusing because Microsoft's publicly available service was also called SkyDrive. Then with SP1, they re-branded it to OneDrive for Business, abbreviated to OneDrive. 'Excellent news' I though, 'that will save confusion'. But then I realised the publicly available SkyDrive has also undergone re-branding, it's now called OneDrive too! This is a nightmare for our teachers who use a personal OneDrive/SkyDrive to understand. 'I uploaded a file to my OneDrive, but when I click on OneDrive in school it's not there'. I have to explain that there are actually two OneDrive's, both called OneDrive, but containing different files in two different places. Has anyone been able to rename it without having to hack around with SharePoint too much?

Hi all, I hope someone can help me with the following problem in sharepoint 2010. I created a new custom list for our admin staff to log incoming telephone calls to school. Some of the info thats recorded is: person calling, looking to speak to, pupils name etc. Once a call is recorded, a email is sent to the relevant staff. This is done either by taking a screen shot of the call details or the list info is copy/pasted into an email. I am trying to find a automated and less time consuming method. I know workflows can be used but i've never used it before. Am newbie in sharepoint stuff. Is it possible to do a lookup for the "looking to speak to" field for the staff name which is linked to email account on AD or have a separate list which contains the staff name and email address. Any help on this would be very much appreciated. Haz

We are looking to migrate from our on-prem file server to SharePoint with Cloud Drive Mapper. Before agreeing our SLT would like to know how those schools using this setup already have found it? And more specifically, how have staff found it?

About to roll out Share Point pilot for Curriculum site collection (including all subsites with unique permissions etc) and finding it difficult or rather limited when trying to edit a web page. What I mean here is that any web page can only be edited in very basic way. Limited options only. For example I have included a long text file with headings/paragraphs I'd like to create table of contents at top of the page and links (anchors) to various paragraphs to make navigation easier. Any advice welcome - maybe I am missing some kind of editing tools or am I just expecting too much from Share Point 2016 online?

Hello Does anyone use sharepoint as there school website? We are wanting to see what it can look like etc. Helen

If you have a branded SharePoint site then you can send some screenshot(s) to The Kraal website and they will include your school in their gallery - to demonstrate where schools in the UK and beyond are taking their SharePoint installations. You can send a single screenshot, or if you want to send more information then include a copy of your school logo and whatever text you want to accompany your screenshots. You can see the gallery here.

Hello, we have recently just setup a new Sharepoint 2010 deployment which seems to working ok (still developing it a bit at the moment!). We have been looking at Sharepoint Learning Kit for some time now and was just wondering how others have got it setup. I have looked at some things online at it says the best way is to have a site per class and then add the appropriate students/staff to that site. Surely there is a lot of administration overhead here. Is there anyway this can be done automatically without having to buy andy additional software. I have read that you can use Excel to provision users to these sites. My main question is how can we setup SLK to work efficiently and without much manual administratrion overhead. Thanks.

Hi, I have a SP site which is setup to authenticate with an external two-way trust domain. I've used the stsadm tool to configure the people-picker to browse this domain and add users/groups to this site. For the most part authentication works fine but have a select few (not disabled) which just can't login. The check permissions tool says that have the desired relevant access but the login prompt just keeps re-appearing. Here's where it gets stranger. Sometimes my own trusted domain account takes three attempts to login before this is accepted whereas others are allowed in straight away! Are there any logs for troubleshooting login at all? I'm struggling to find these. What could be the problem? I'd be happier if this just didn't work across the board to make troubleshooting a bit easier but then this job would be easy wouldn't it Any advice much appreciated.

I have implemented WSS 3.0 recently and since yesterday I have no idea how it can be used and for what purpose. I was thinking something along the lines of it being like Moodle but, my question is, can it be like Moodle? Does anyone have something already running that I can take a look at so that I can get some ideas? Or, quite simply, just some screenshots will help. Thanks.

When our users log on to our Sharepoint site (Microsoft Learning Gateway) they go to a homepage with a number of webparts on it, one of which is the My Classes webpart. I'm in the process of changing the homepage to only display the content of My Classes but I don't like the look of the standard webpart. I've changed how users see other information in sharepoint (using the data view web part), but as they are lists, they show up in the data source library. My problem is that I don't know where the data for My Classes is stored or what it is called. Any ideas?

Hi, I'm setting up a site in sharepoint for our pupils to use as their homepage. I've managed to hide/remove most parts that i don't want them to see but i can't find a way to disable the search... I ideally would want to remove it completely but removing "People" and "All Sites" would work, so they can search the site they're on but not any others. But i want it accessible for staff so can't remove them completely... I've searched around but not found any way of doing it, so hopefully someone on here can help. Thanks

Hi, I just wondered if anyone has any experience of a predominately Mac-based school environment running on Windows-based servers? I am due on site this week to investigate solutions to overcome their main problems which are: AD Password expiation (not able to change passwords have to go to a Windows PC) Easy Access for Pupils to access their areas (Home drives) File corruption when sharing to public areas and accessing files on a different Mac. The school are already embracing Office 365 so the long-term goal if possible would be to use SharePoint for file collaboration and perhaps JumpCloud Directory Platform as a directory service due to issues with Mac OS and Azure AD and the cumbersome approach I think it will take. I really welcome feedback from anyone who has Mac's properly co-existing in a windows domain, with pupils logging on with themselves as they would on Windows and having appropriate drive maps, permissions etc. along with teaching staff also with the ability to change their directory passwords.

Hey all, I have convinced our school to finally attempt to move from on-site storage for all files to onedrive - beginning with the admin team. Currently, our file structure is an absolute mess and it's impossible to find files unless you've worked here for years and understand the jumble. I'm just looking to see if anyone has any suggestions on file structure or examples to look at. Trying to avoid bringing over years of unused files as there has never been a proper archiving structure put in place. Thanks in advance,
