Hello, We have recently had our safeguarding officer request to be CCd into emails sent to certain 'dynamic' distribution groups. They are dynamic based on attributes in active directory. For example IF 'Company' IS 'Intake 2014' which is used for Year 7's. This is the same for each year group. As they all use the same attribute 'Company' the safeguarding officer could only be added to one year group. I have had a look at creating a global rule under mail flow where the recipient is the year groups cc the safeguarding officer but get an error error SentTo predicate does not allow distribution groups. Does anyone know a way I can attach a single user to multiple dynamic distribution groups? Thank you, William

Hello, This my thread first post on here, but i have been reading the forum for some time. We are currently looking at moving our schools email to our own Office 365 Tenant. We currently use a mix of LA provided Gsuite and Office 365. We are currently told the LA provided Office 365 is secure when sending to/from the LA. If we moved to our own tenant would it still be secure with office 365 tenants? I also understand we could send encrypted emails through Office 365 to any address, would these meet the requirements of the DPA to send personal information? I assume email would be secure (TLS Security?) within our own domain in our own tenant? Sorry if this has been asked before, I have read a number of threads but haven't seen much in terms of DPA & Office 365. Any advice or expiration would be much appreciated Many Thanks

We're evaluating the possibility of using Chromebooks in areas of the college where users only need a cheap, low powered device to do typing and Internet research. We already have Office 365 for Education, so I've managed to get Azure AD federated with Google Apps for Education, and I can now log in to our test Chromebook using an AD username and password. We've used the Google management tools to push out the Office 365 extensions for Chrome to the Chromebook, but the next hurdle is making it so the SSO works on that as well. When a user clicks on the Office icon currently, they are prompted to log in again with their Office 365 credentials. How do we make it so this just uses the SSO login they already logged in with? The same for OneDrive for Business - we'd like this to automatically be available using the SSO login. I tried searching this forum but couldn't find results that would be specific to this particular issue. Thanks, Dan Jackson (Lead ITServices Technician). Long Road Sixth Form College Cambridge, UK.

Good afternoon all Long time no post. I'm looking to set office 365 as being the default action for email links. So far, I've managed to get the following to work to some extent: ftype mailto="C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" "https://outlook.office.com/?path=/mail/action/compose&to=%1" which I've run from an elevated Command Prompt in Windows 7. This now gets email links to open when clicked using Office 365 in Chrome, it opens the Compose window in Office 365, but then the email link has "mailto:" stuck on the start, as obviously it's pulling the whole link through and not discarding that bit of it. Does anyone have any idea how I might do this and get rid of the mailto: bit of the address? Thanks Andy

Hi all, We use Mail 365 here and we have had many reports of important staff emails not being received via inbox. Some of the staff have found the mail they should have received in clutter or in a different folder. I have general Admin rights to all the staff users at the school and can only change so many settings without contacting Office. Any ideas? (via admin settings) thanks

We moved are staff and student users to O365 over the last year. Students are using mandatory profiles and access emails via OWA we also map OneDrive using a script. Staff are using roaming profiles and access emails with Outlook 2013 currently no mapping for them. I'm looking to move Staff to mandatory profiles but i want to keep Outlook 2013/16. I was planning to redirect the APPDATA folder to a hidden share on a file server as i can't see another way to push staff to mandatory profiles but allowing them to keep the mail profile or extra outlook settings. Was wondering how over admins are managing O365 within a college or school? Are end result is to completely remove network shares and have everything pushing to O365 or Sharepoint Online. Cheers J

I think I know the answer here, but I can't be the only one who has come up against this. I want to close off all the old Year 13 accounts (bit overdue, tbh). We always disable accounts because it costs us nothing to keep them on hand. Files have been taken off the file server onto BluRay, and now I need to reclaim their Office 365 licences. Before I do that, and their mailboxes get deleted, I'd like to grab the PST to archive them, just in case. Storage is cheap and I'd rather have the data than not. Is there any way in Office 365 of doing this in bulk, or do I really have to add each mailbox to my Outlook and PST them one by one? New-MailboxExportRequest looks to be Exchange 2013 only, and whilst MessageOps can apparently do it it costs $1500pa for 1001-5000 mailboxes, and their free offer ("set us as your partner") doesn't apply to free education plans. So (a) does anyone else know how to do this without spending silly money? If I have to spend a few quid I'll live with it, but the pricing above is madness. (b) does anyone else even bother? Am I just being paranoid/overprepared?

I have a batch of new Windows 10 Laptops and have installed Office 2016 Pro but unlike Office 2013 I cannot get the Outlook to connect to our users' Office 365 Education email. It will happily connect to Microsoft Mail but can't find the 365 Education version. Edge connects Office 365 fine. Is there something I HAVE to do or have Big Blue ended the relationship between Office 2016 local and Online Email?

Hi All, I am looking to make things a lot easier for both myself and staff, I'm aiming to setup some form of automated account creation and SSO. We currently have a local AD (domain.local), Office 365 for email/SharePoint/office (domain.co.uk) and G-Suite for google apps (domain.co.uk). I'm looking if its possible to create a user in my local AD which then creates the O365 and G-Suite accounts ideally with password sync and eventually SSO. We don't at present use AAD or ADFS all accounts are created manually/CSV. Has anyone accomplished this already? Thanks

Before I started at this school, back in the days when everyone was rushing to get their VLE up and running, they signed up with one provider who initially ran the VLE, their email and their website. Since then, the website is something they no longer provide and the only thing that sees any use is the email, which doesn't seem great value at £1.5k/yr. Currently using O365 tied to the school's .co.uk domain which, AFAIK is included in our VL agreement. So... we basically want to get rid of the VLE provider and just use O365 for email/calendar/storage etc. The question is how to do this without losing current emails (and preferably calendars/drives)? Would there be extra costs? Would it be better to go "Google" and, if so, how would we transfer emails across? Ideally we'd like to keep the same domain.

Hi All, SLT have asked for student and staff to have their school photo as their profile picture in Office 365. They want it to have a more friendly/VLE feel. I understand their point of view but using student photo does make me feel unconformable from a child protection view. What do people think?

Hello, hope everyone is coping the best they can during these times. I have been given the task of rolling out MS Teams and Google Classroom across the school. I am pushing teams as an admin but some subjects have already setup their own classes in google classroom as the teachers have come from a google background. Good news is that we now have our classes made using SDS in Teams and i am about to roll it out this week, the bad news is that all Google mail sent from my domain is getting caught in the spam filter of office 365. I have been in contact with Microsoft and Google support to try and resolve this but this is still ongoing. I have added an SPF rule in my DNS so i now have one for O365 and one for Google as this was one of the suggestions from support but the email is still getting caught in the quarantine. My MX record points to O365 and i would still like to keep this as the default. Has anyone had to setup a single domain with O365 and Google emails? Any feedback would greatly be appreciated.

Hi, If the agreement includes DsktpEdu ALNG LicSAPk OLV F 1Y Acdmc Ent 2UJ-00012, does this mean they're entitled to the free Office 365 licenses?

Hi everyone, Probably a basic question, but something I can't seem to really find an answer for. Maybe someone here can give me a definitive answer. We've got Office 365 working for years now, users are synced via DirSync from on premises AD. I don't have password writeback enabled as I don't have Azure Premium AD licenses. Since our country went on lockdown, I've had some users try to reset their passwords via the links on the MS login screen. Self Service Password reset is not enabled at present in any case. I was just wondering what would happen if I enabled it? Let's say Joe Soap resets his password as he can't remember what it was. Now Office 365 has a new password in it. But the next time the DirSync tool runs and uploads the on premises password hashes to O365, wouldn't it just overwrite whatever he chose as a new password with whatever his old on premises password was? That's the answer I can't seem to find out. Logically my mind says this is what would happen, if O365 even let a synced user change their password without writeback enabled. In my mind, the on premises AD is authorative and will override anything set by the user via O365? Many thanks and stay safe out there!

Hi, Just after some feedback / suggestions from other schools using Office365 / Microsoft Teams in relation to the naming convention used for staff and students alike. When we on-boarded Staff (only), their 'display name' was used as their name (e.g. ) which worked great and we could clearly see which member of staff / person it was etc. Now, with onboarding Students, it is clear that the continued use of the and naming convention for Staff accounts (for Students to see) is not suitable. Therefore, I am working on the basis that it should possibly follow for staff (display) name? The downside to this, is that everyone's 2- letter initials within Teams etc, will all be 'M' (for Mrs. Mr. Ms. Miss etc) followed by their initial. So in turn, when staff are communicating within Teams, and they just want to mention certain members of staff, It will just truncate to 'M'. I assume that ultimately this is how (it can only) work? Our students will be using a different sub-domain (student.) though I have seen some posts suggesting that their student display names are prefixed with 'Student' for ease of identification. Again, is the common / good practice? I just want to prepare our Local AD correctly, in readiness to sync via AD Connect / SalamanderSoft etc before onboarding over 1,000 accounts! Thanks in advance.

Hi, does anyone know if it’s possible to move folders in Teams, as it only seems possible to move the individual contents of folders? It just seems daft if folders cannot be moved, as the teaching staff want to move/copy entire folders. Thanks

Hi, does anyone know how to disable the Editor Button/Pane in word (Office 365)? It's part of the Proofing Tools. This is for Exam accounts where I have already disabled the other proofing tools (Spell Check/Grammar/Thesaurus etc.), however users can still access some of these functions by opening the Editor Pane. Thanks

Hi all, We are looking to manage all our calendars from one interface with the ability to also edit these calendars from one location. We have calendars in Office 365, iSAMS and SOCS. I realise this a very unique question but wondered if anyone had been tasked with this sort of thing before. Maybe achievable via APIs etc. Cheers Tom

Pupils can no longer login to office 365 (we do not use ADFS, just password sync) When any pupil goes to the office.com website then presses sign in, then starts to type their email address the page suddenly re-directs and fails? The page it goes to is http://www.odwebbp.svc.ms/share. The only change made to the system was yesterday, I finally got the domain and forest functional level to Windows 2008R2 (from 2003) I'm on my way to 2012R2:) I can't attribute any other change that might cause this.. Ideas?

Hi All, We have locked down Office 365 so that no users apart from Administrators can create groups/distribution lists. On some dist lists I have set a certain staff member as the owner, so that they can manage the members of this list. Does anybody know how a staff member (not administrator) gets access to manage the global distribution lists. I can't seem to find this on Google for the life of me... I tried as a staff member, who is an owner of a few distribution lists, going to admin.microsoft.com which as expected says they do not have permissions. Is there something I'm missing. A simple page to manage the lists that they can access? Thanks in advance

I've been investigating an issue with several of our users being unable to use the password reset functionality with their Azure AD/Office 365 accounts. They click on Reset Password, enter their email, click next and nothing happens. I noticed all the accounts affected have Gmail addresses assigned as their recovery email account. Sure enough, any account with a recovery email other than Gmail that I tested works fine. I confirmed Reset Password worked on my own account, then changed the recovery email to a Gmail address and it stopped working. Changed the email back to my original, then back to the Gmail and it started working, repeat the process and it breaks again! I figured we may have a conditional access policy setup that could be breaking something but can’t find anything that would be causing problems. Has anybody else seen this weird behaviour before? Is this a known issue (Google didn't seem to return any results with a few searches)?

Hey there, Apologies if this the wrong part of the forum for this, but as the problem seems to be Office 365 config I figured here. We've had email PO's and BACS remittances set up for a while in SIMS FMS and it's worked fine. However, it suddenly stopped working last Thursday, then very briefly worked Friday and now has stopped it seems entirely. I've been mucking around trying to get it working for most of yesterday but i'm stumped. We've got Google for Education so I bought a domain, verified it with google and created a google account there and that works, so it's not entirely an FMS thing. The settings i've got in FMS are: Mail Server smtp.office365.com Port: 587 Use STARTTLS Encryption: Yes Authentication Required: Yes Followed be an email and password that I know is correct as i've logged into it - i've also tried sending and receiving email on that account. The error i'm seeing from FMS is 'Failed to read beginning of SSL/TLS record. Client handshake failed. Failed to establish TLS connection.' Now, I remembered that office was depreciating TLS 1.0 & 1.1 so I hunted round on Microsoft's site and i've made sure SMTP AUTH is still on and legacy TLS and tried using the legacy SMTP address, as I strongly suspect that despite ESS suggesting otherwise FMS doesn't support TLS 1.2. Anyone any thoughts? Any help appreciated :-)
