(FMS is part of SIMS) Seems that our Finance team have been told that they must prepare to move to a cloud platform for FMS.. Our Finance didn't ask for this it was just told to them in an email. FMS6 will be restricted after 6th next month.. What ever that means. Then instructions on how we prepare our data to be uploaded to their cloud service. So now I'm immediately hostile to this process. I don't like strong arm tactics. It seems I was also unaware that "parentpay" purchased SIMS. I'm now writing a snooty email to the migration team about these demands.. Who will have access our cloud data? Is it encrypted? (not just the transport) Where is it stored, who will guarantee data integrity, backups and service up time? How will we be compensated when you lose control of the data in a possible data breach? Miffed in Dorset... EDIT: Seems alot of this was decided by DCC, so now to SAFSO...

Hay everyone. I'm wondering if anyone has migrated from FMS Cloud to Arbour Access for their finance package? We have a scenario where a school is moving from ESS FMS Cloud to Arbor Access and it seems to be playing out like so: - Arbor say they cannot import any historical info from FMS and the Access system will start fresh with the key financial numbers keyed in - ESS will offer a copy of the FMS SQL database before it's deleted but no method of accessing it but suggest they have met their obligation of handing the school their "data" HMRC say finance data needs to be retained for 6 years plus the current academic year. Is just a raw (essentially inaccessible) SQL database backup enough here? If a school suddenly get financially audited at any point and are asked for specifics, what happens here? There must be other schools that have been through this?

I carried out a backup of FMS via Tools | FMS Transactions Backup. I have restored this backup to a standalone laptop but it's not allowing me to log in to FMS. Can anyone tell me why this is happening? I've read that it could be because logins are stored in the Master database. I've also read that you need to use the FMS version of dbattach, but for some reason this isn't available on our SIMS server or the laptop I have set up. The path I am looking at is C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL14.FMSDB\MSSQL\Binn and there's no sign of DBAttach. Final question, if I manually run DBAttach, whichever version, and do the Backup a Database thing from there, is this a valid backup for both SIMS and FMS and would restoring FMS mean restoring both the FMS database and the Master database for the user logins?

I am getting the error "failed to log on to the profile provided" when trying to print a purchase order. It only seems to be one company however. In this case that company is YPO (Yorkshire Purchasing Order). I've been on their website and downloaded and imported the 2020 catalogue and I'm still getting the above error. Its only on one machine in an office while the others are all working fine. A quick google has given me absolutely nothing. Can anybody offer any solutions? Thanks Andychar

Hey there, Apologies if this the wrong part of the forum for this, but as the problem seems to be Office 365 config I figured here. We've had email PO's and BACS remittances set up for a while in SIMS FMS and it's worked fine. However, it suddenly stopped working last Thursday, then very briefly worked Friday and now has stopped it seems entirely. I've been mucking around trying to get it working for most of yesterday but i'm stumped. We've got Google for Education so I bought a domain, verified it with google and created a google account there and that works, so it's not entirely an FMS thing. The settings i've got in FMS are: Mail Server smtp.office365.com Port: 587 Use STARTTLS Encryption: Yes Authentication Required: Yes Followed be an email and password that I know is correct as i've logged into it - i've also tried sending and receiving email on that account. The error i'm seeing from FMS is 'Failed to read beginning of SSL/TLS record. Client handshake failed. Failed to establish TLS connection.' Now, I remembered that office was depreciating TLS 1.0 & 1.1 so I hunted round on Microsoft's site and i've made sure SMTP AUTH is still on and legacy TLS and tried using the legacy SMTP address, as I strongly suspect that despite ESS suggesting otherwise FMS doesn't support TLS 1.2. Anyone any thoughts? Any help appreciated :-)

Hi..Looking for ideas and need to pick brains! I have recently moved to to LA maintained school over 2 sites. Having come from An Academy Trust using PSF, I need to get a system for my new school that doesn't involve paper forms being printed, signed, scanned, emailed, printed off again etc. Can anyone share their experiences/ procedures for getting electronic order requisitions through to the finance office via the correct authorisations (budget holder)? Also a system for recording Deliveries. I was thinking some kind of Microsoft form or share point documents.... but I thought I'd see what others have done. No point re-inventing the wheel! TIA

I've recently taken over the IT support for a school and am having a problem migrating an SIMS & FMS install from an old Windows XP "server" to a Windows 2008 R2 (64bit) server using MS SQL Server 2008 Express (all with latest service packs and hotfixes). I have kept the db names on the new the same as the old. I have SIMS working fine. However I cannot get past an the error, "Cannot rollback atomic" similar to the one mentioned in this post whenerver I try to login from a client workstation. I have tried all suggested in that post and have read this one about logins. Both DB and application logins seem to be fine; they appear to have imported ok from the DBAttach I did from the original db. I've tried attach/re-attach but to no avail. Any ideas? Anybody know what lies behind, "Capita sorted it"? What are the causes other than duff user imports? Do the users imported look ok in SQL Studio but actually they're not? I'm fairly new to SIMS & FMS but reasonably ok with Windows platforms and MS SQL. Thanks.

SQL Native Client error Common link Failure with FMS 6.138. I have a school that have Server 2003 & windows 7 laptops. They are getting intermittent issue where it sates "You have altered your system clock. It strongly recommended that you re-start module in order to ensure client/server system date/time integrity." Both the server & workstation time are same. Regional settings are all set correctly. Even reset the faults on the windows 7 laptops. There is no time syncs going on the network. I have looked at "General Network error," "Communication link failure," or "A transport-level error" as per Error message when an application connects to SQL Server on a server that is running Windows Server 2003: "General Network error," "Communication link failure," or "A transport-level error". Still no resolved. Logged call with Capita and this was given the following rubbish response:- ================================================================ Activity Date: 20/07/2011 10:31:22 Communication Type: E-mail Activity by: Bradley Cotton Emailed Customer Hi Rob, I have spoken to a colleague regarding this issue. Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done with this issue as it is an intermittent issue. The same issues occur when running FMS over a virtual machine. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

A bit of a weird one here. I work for a school in Sussex in we had a big migration over to Bromcom about a year and a bit ago. We have a new Finance member who has joined and she requires access to our old FMS Server for some financial info. I have logged into FMS with our old admin account and it looks like I have somehow lost admin rights. I cannot edit any users or any access levels. I can even log into the "sysman" account and this doesn't have the correct permissions either. Any idea how I could reinstate these permissions or what could be causing this? All options under users are greyed out other than reset password when I click on my own account. Thanks!

Hi, We are running SIMS FMS version 6.91 here and for some reason we have recently encountered an error with our SIMS. When we are processing our purchase orders and press the print option the machine crashes out and we get the following error message: "General SQL error. [Microsoft] [sql Server]Error converting data type varchar to int." Has anyone any idea of what could be causing this problem? It sounds like it is some sort of problem with a field that is trying to convert from one type to another but the SIMS FMS works fine if we remote desktop to the server? Has anyone any ideas on what could be causing this? Ben

Is there a way to show full invoice numbers on the BACS remittance report? Inputting shows both the full invoice number and a shortened one, but the shortened one is used for the BACS report. Is there a way to access the form design to show the full number instead? (My apologies if this question is duplicated. I am sure I posted this question but now cannot find it). Thank you Kerry

Can any FMS experts help me with a query I have been asked about: One of our Schools has 3 Funds set up. The decision has been made to only use Fund 01 going forward. Most of expenditure for this year has been coded to Fund 01 on this basis. However, they have continued to input income into the 3 separate Funds as they have in previous years (using Fund to Bank journals). As we approach Year End the School would like to know if this will affect anything - do they need to move any of this income from Funds 02 and 03 into 01? If so what is the best way to do this?

I have a school that on the salary projections shows a variation of -4. We've tracked it down to the 1st aid payment (allowance). So.....when looking at salary projection, click on admin staff, click on a person, click on view details, then look at pay information. This shows the basic and the allowance (all ok) but on the full year breakdown it shows the total amount (all ok still) but salary paid, it has removed the payment for the 1st aid allowance. How do I sort this!!!!!!!!

HI folks, SIMS aren't being helpful and neither is the IT department in my school. Both are saying that it's 'impossible' but I have heard that it isn't impossible. What I need to do is take our existing asset inventory (in *.CSV) and import it into SIMS FMS to comply with our federation's guidelines. We currently just have spreadsheets and this "isn't good enough" according to our new federation. IT tell me that we need to start from scratch - but that would mean re-entering serials, purchase prices, etc, etc... all over again. So, can you tell me if it is possible to import our inventory in CSV format to SIMS FMS?

Hi peeps, Need to know what version of FMS you are running, and which version of SIMS you have alongside it. I think we've been a version out for a while and after last nights upgrade from August 09 to Autumn Update (Autumn Main is wrapped in i guess) i think we're further out of date now. My FMS shows 6.120 but i think August 09 should have had 6.124 with it, and Autumn Main brings it to 6.128. Checked SupportNet but couldn't easily find an answer except that 6.124 may have been pulled due to some error? I've logged a case and probably just need it to be pushed to me by SOLUS, but as always a Heads Up from EG brings peace of mind. I don't see why it wasn't just available by SOLUS as previous ones were. It could be because i seem to have skipped over Autumn Main that this is happening. Right, going to go look for the SOLUS 3 manual so maybe i can push some updates out in a hurry while i wait for UK to wake up

Hi I've had an email from our Finance team to say that all of the .txt files that they use within FMS have been converted by Windows to .xml files, which is causing an issue as the supplier that they use only sends and receives in .txt files. I've been told that the conversion has messed the formatting and is rendering these files essentially useless. I've tried converting the files to .txt manually but they don't fix the formatting issue. The main issues I am having is that a) having not seen what the files looked like previously (and all of the files were converted) I can't tell what the formatting is supposed to look like and b) there is no sign that the windows server (where the files are stored) has modified them in the slightest as none of them have modification dates for when this happened (some of them haven't been opened since 2019). Is there any way to convert these files back to where they were or are these files forever lost?

Morning all... Have just moved SIMS and FMS to a new server. Now have FMS running successfully on 2 machines, but I get an error when logging on with a 3rd: General SQL Error. [Microsoft] SQL Network Interfaces: Server doesn't support requested protocol[xFFFFFF] I thought it was an FMSconnect.ini issue, but have used the same .ini file from the other working machines to no avail. Logging on as the admin on the same PC I get no errors, FMS works fine, suggesting a permissions issue, but user has same permissions as other users. I did notice that when I ran odbcad32, in the native client configuration, the SQL server in the drop down box seems to switch back to the old SQL instance (ADMIN_YJB\SIMS2008) after I have selected the new instance (YJB-MIS\2008) and saved. Any ideas how I can fix this - do you thing an uninstall/install of FMS on the machine to start fresh would be the answer? TIA! Dave.
