X4 doesn't work with Windows 10.. I need a vector tool for free that will allow us to create product packages (think flatpack cubes with pictures) and send 2d vectors to our laser cutter (you print to the laser cutter as long as it sees true vectors it will plot). The new version is just too expensive, serif is out of date and abandoned (we have the serif draw x4 and I can't get the laser printer to play well with it anyway) I was looking at Inkscape but it looks more arty than design and technology. ideas? cheers

I need a budget server that can accommodate 6+ hard drives to run a windows share. I already have the drives. CPU and RAM don't matter (as long as it can run server 2016) This is only going to be a share target for another server. I'll use the server tools to create a software raid. I'll probably run an £30 SSD or 2 for the OS. the old ml150s could do this but the new ones are too small and don't have the sata/power connections. otherwise I might look at a sinology box but I don't like proprietary systems (when things go wrong, a windows box can be troubleshooted).

Just been hearing rumours that the Westfield centre is to close, as part of the cost cuts. Gets better, Capita could be the ones to take over Can anyone confirm this?

Could anyone give me a rough idea of what is an average IT budget for a Secondary School? I'm starting a job as eLearning Director in Sept and looks like I'll be managing the technicians and general IT strategy and budget. The school has approx 750 pupils and I have been quoted a figure of £25k a year for general IT spend. I'm not sure what is and isn't included in that, but it seems low to me. A ball park figure per pupil would be really helpful for future negotations! Thanks in advance

Hi, New here Does anyone know if there is a way to upload budget into FMs when not using Access(HCSS)

We have just had a meeting with our Bursar to discuss annual costs and our budget. I was shocked to hear that our Broadband cost to CLEO is £9000 a year. We do have a 100mb fibre cable which is filtered with netsweeper, however I just wanted to see if this rougly what everyone else is paying. We're a secondary school with 750 students. Rob

Hello all, Hope this is in the right section (sorry Mods if not) I am in a primary school which needs its server upgrading as the last servers MoBo through its legs in the air and died. Im temporarly using a Pentium D 2.8Ghz with 2gb RAM + 2x500Gb SATA2 which is proving to be a bit guttless when it comes to intense situations. Im looking at a budget of about £600 but that has to include CPU, MoBo, RAM, Hdd and PSU Ive been looking at CPUs and MoBo's and its a bit of a mine field out there. I was looking at a Intel Xeon X3230 S775 2.66GHz 8MB 1066FSB but then was scared off by the 'EM64T' hardware and software requirements (but i will be running a 32bit version of server2003 so im not sure if that affects anything). Another CPU ive been looking at is the Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 3.16GHz 6MB Cache S775 1333MHZ, would be brilliant as a fileserver but it will also be the domain controler so maybe only 2cores is stretching it abit. Does anyone have any advice as to what chip and mobo to go for, any help would be much appreciated Thank you in advance P.S did I mention that this has to be ordered and payed for by the 30th of March (10 days!)

Schools face axe in spending cuts. Whoopee! It carries on to say that it will 'anger' parents who have been promised new or refurbished schools. In the town where I work, this is not necessarily so - many parents are considering trying to to send their primary school children to the local catholic secondary which is immune to BSF; simply so their child's education isn't disrupted half-way through their school life. A major concern is because we are 4th top in the county for results, whereas our planned merger is with a school that is, well... 'not' 4th in the county.
