I've recently taken over the IT support for a school and am having a problem migrating an SIMS & FMS install from an old Windows XP "server" to a Windows 2008 R2 (64bit) server using MS SQL Server 2008 Express (all with latest service packs and hotfixes). I have kept the db names on the new the same as the old. I have SIMS working fine. However I cannot get past an the error, "Cannot rollback atomic" similar to the one mentioned in this post whenerver I try to login from a client workstation. I have tried all suggested in that post and have read this one about logins. Both DB and application logins seem to be fine; they appear to have imported ok from the DBAttach I did from the original db. I've tried attach/re-attach but to no avail. Any ideas? Anybody know what lies behind, "Capita sorted it"? What are the causes other than duff user imports? Do the users imported look ok in SQL Studio but actually they're not? I'm fairly new to SIMS & FMS but reasonably ok with Windows platforms and MS SQL. Thanks.

This is working with Sql Server version 2008 R2 Here are the other versions of software that might be helpful: How is remote debugging allowed on Microsoft SQL Management studio? This question might be misunderstood. I am not sitting at the computer where Microsoft SQL Management studio resides and I am attempting to debug a remote database. That is not the issue I am having at all. Instead, I have remoted into a client's server by their request and also I am trying to debug an issue they are having. You see, this is how things are evolving in our world. More and more there are situations where a developer is working from home and has to remote into a client's system do get some work done. When I open up their studio software on their side, if I try to debug or execute a command, I get this error message: I want to be able to instruct them, on their side, what they need to do to make this problem go away. Please advise.

Hi all my sims server is currently given me a load of grief, maxing the processor. Its on a Citrix xen virtual server with 4 vcpus and 4gb of RAM and it appears that this problem only really started to surface when we upgraded the sql install from sql 2005 to sql 2008. I am presuming that sql server 2008 is more resource hungry and i need to fine tune the performance. Does anyone have any tips for ensuring best possible performance both from a sims point of view and a sql server 2008 point of view? i have ran through some maintenance tasks in sql server but to be honest its a bit of guess work at the moment.. Thanks in advance

Just before that I get "Unicode data in a Unicode-only collation or ntext data cannot be sent to clients using DB-Library (such as ISQL) or ODBC version 3.7 or earlier. moodle" . I am using free tds . What am I doing wrong here ? Regards,
