Hello, A few of our SIMS clients aren't connecting as expected. When SIMS is run under standard user privileges, the login works but takes approximately 15 mins to complete. However, if I run SIMS as an administrator, the login is almost instantaneous (even using the same SIMS creds). It can't be the firewall as we have Windows Firewall disabled on all of our clients (we have an external one to the WAN). I am certain that the problem is client-side because SIMS works properly on some clients, not others. We are experiencing issues with FMS and Discover client software on the same machines. Any help is much appreciated, Roger

Hello, I have a weird problem with our SQL 2008 server that hosts SIMS (it was SQL 2005 before, but we migrated it to try and solve this problem, it didn't) We had Capita remote-in to install hosted SIMS Learning Gateway. They ran a tool to create a new user in SIMS to allow ADP to work. However, after creating it, we couldn't login. We went into SQL Management Studio to try and change the password, but when we tried to get into the properties for the newly created account we got this message: Cannot show requested dialog. (SqlMgmt) Property IsLocked is not available for Login '[CGSadp.client]'. This property may not exist for this object, or may not be retrievable due to insufficient access rights. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo) This was connecting logged on as administrator with a trusted connection. If we tried to login as sa, we got this: Login failed for user 'sa'. (Microsoft SQL Error: 18456) If we tried to go into properties for sa, it gave the same message as above. Thanks, David

Hi All - long time reader first time poster, hope someone here can lend a hand I work as a tech support in a college using RM CC3, and an IT lecturer has asked me to look into a way that students can be taught SQL, in the locked down environment that we give them. The first problem I have is that said lecturer has written some code in Visual Basic Express, linking to a database on her network drive. SQL will not support UNC or remote accessing the database, meaning we will have to access it locally (C:\ drive) - this is no good to us unfortunately. We have thought about installing Virtual PC and then putting an image into their user area, but we are conscious that giving students an essentially free reign over a PC may have repurcussions with what they do on the network! What do you other schools/colleges/HE's do for teaching SQL? what environment and software do you use? Cheers Mark

I have created a database for cartridge stock at my school, (its a hot topic here at the moment with a lot of money being spent on printing) but I am having a few issues with Access queries. I have currently got a query which shows the cartridges in stock and how many eg Cartridge Stock --------- ------ 339 7 344 5 Etc I also have a table which shows the required cartridges (some of which wont show up on the stock list becuase the query only counts items in stock). Is there a way of combining the tables to show 0 stock on some cartridges without using VBA? Apologies if its not clear :s

Hey. I know this topic has been covered ad nauseum, but I'm building a web gateway that extracts information from SIMS's SQL Server database; but I don't want to go through SIMS to get it. That means no SIMS SDK or anything of that kind. I don't see the need for those extra levels of abstraction. I just want to connect directly to the database, run some queries, then do whatever I want with the information. I've already had some success, and the project is going pretty well. Our LEA has given us its full support. Now, we only want to pull data from the database - there will be no writing back to it. Capita are aware of our intentions, and their response was: "We don’t support the schema as that implies direct connection to the database. We would rather the school use IMS or the Command reporter." So, they would rather we do things their way - but why wouldn't they? From what my LEA has told me, much of the talk on here about Capita rescinding their SIMS support if we circumvent their software is just so much scaremongering. Anyway, regardless of the Capita issues, we've been given the go-ahead by the LEA to look into this. It's going to happen. So, I know a lot of folks have had some success in this area already (penfold_99, I believe, with Moodle integration; and the chaps at SalamanderSoft who did a lot of work for Twyneham, to name a couple); and I was wondering if anyone has managed to do any extensive mapping of the SIMS/SQL relationships, perhaps using the SQL Server Profiler or something similar to log the requests that SIMS is sending to the database. We're really looking for people to collaborate with on this; and we would be massively appreciative to anyone who has already made substantial headway into mapping the relationships who might be willing to help. I know you're out there Thanks in advance, -Gdn

I did not set up our wsus server but it has been running just fine for several years until very recently. it was grabbing a bunch of updates and became stuck. i let it run for a while before canceling it out then applying the updates.. after it had installed updates the server needed rebooting which i did. server came back online just fine and all seemed good until i tried to load wsus. it seems to stick at loading, when you click on synchronization it stays at zero. after about 3 minutes, it will flash up a screen that it cannot connect to the wsus server, reset server node or copy to clipboard. i started the sql manager and can connect to the internal microsoft sql database.forgot to mention, this wsus in on this server computer.. all on same computer.

I am setting up a backup strategy for our SIMS SQL2008 server. Am currently using the SIMS scripts to do it which is fine, but I want less data loss in the event of a failure so am putting in transaction log backups every hour (maybe 2). My question is this, which dbs do I need to backup to ensure a complete restoration is possible without loss of login usernames/passwords (this happened to us once when the server went belly up and was a nightmare). Currently setting maintenance tasks to backup the following: sims solus3_deployment_server (discover when I actually deploy it) Do I need to also back up all/any of the following? master model msdb tempdb

SQL Native Client error Common link Failure with FMS 6.138. I have a school that have Server 2003 & windows 7 laptops. They are getting intermittent issue where it sates "You have altered your system clock. It strongly recommended that you re-start module in order to ensure client/server system date/time integrity." Both the server & workstation time are same. Regional settings are all set correctly. Even reset the faults on the windows 7 laptops. There is no time syncs going on the network. I have looked at "General Network error," "Communication link failure," or "A transport-level error" as per Error message when an application connects to SQL Server on a server that is running Windows Server 2003: "General Network error," "Communication link failure," or "A transport-level error". Still no resolved. Logged call with Capita and this was given the following rubbish response:- ================================================================ Activity Date: 20/07/2011 10:31:22 Communication Type: E-mail Activity by: Bradley Cotton Emailed Customer Hi Rob, I have spoken to a colleague regarding this issue. Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done with this issue as it is an intermittent issue. The same issues occur when running FMS over a virtual machine. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Hi everyone, Just started a new post at a school, looking to dig around some of the data held in SIMS to help senior level leadership. Is it possible to run reports or query the SIMS database directly without interfacing with the SIMS GUI? Right now my current workflow is to query the database using Reports -> Run Report and attaching a macro enabled excel file to manipulate data. I'm sure there's a more useful way to be doing this? I've seen some posts relating to CommandReporter, could anyone point me in the direction of some documentation for this? Thanks for your help!

Recently we upgraded SCCM from SQL 2012 to SQL 2017. Ever since we have found that the Software Update Point Synchronization is now taking 1 hour 45 minutes to sync in the console from Microsoft Update and then show as completed, in the WSUS console though it is showing as finished in minutes. Has anyone seen this before? Thanks

Clearing down the contents library folder in SCCM 2012
Tinribs posted a topic in Enterprise Software
Morning All We ran out of disk space on our SCCM server D: drive last week. I managed to free up enough to do what I needed but I need to get more free if I can. Our contents library folder is 275GB and I'm sure there must be some orphaned stuff in there that can be got rid of. I ran the cleancontentslibrary tool in what-if mode. The first time I ran it the tool failed when it found a distribution package that hadn't completed its distribution. I managed to find and delete that package. Ran the tool again and it came up with another package that had not worked properly. I couldn't find that package in SCCM via the console so I did some research and found it using a SQL query. I know now the name and ID of the package but I cannot find it anywhere in SCCM using the console. I'm pretty sure it can be deleted but I'd like to check it first if possible but more importantly I'd like to delete it. I assume this can be done with powershell or SQL but I can't find a simple way to do it. I'm not at all experienced with SQL or powershell. Anyone know a) how to find the package's precise location within SCCM and b) how to delete it from SCCM without finding it in the console if a) fails -

Hi I was wondering if anyone can help me figure out my options for a task that, in theory, sounds relatively simple. I am tasked on a regular basis with creating large numbers of Transition Matrices, as seen in the RAISE documents, that compare students levels of progress. This is usually done as a export of a subject marksheet, and a bit of work in Excel to compare certain columns. I have recently made a new Excel template which combines VB and SQL to do all the calculations, but I still seem to be limited by the raw data I can easily export out of SIMS. Since we do transition Matrices at class level, I need the class name within the raw data. This seems to limit me to one export per subject per key stage, because SIMS needs the course link at marksheet level to be able to show me the class name. I have started to try and find out more about SIMS Reporting Engine or Third Party SDK to read data, but haven't got much so far. All i really need is some Student Information (Pupil Premium, Ethnicity & such) and some grades stored within assessment aspects for my start and end points, then I can manipulate them. Has anyone tried to do anything similar? What are my options? Thanks! Steve

Hello everyone, Unfortunately, we suffered a massive network failure a few days ago which meant that we lost many virtual servers, including SIMS, Tucasi, Eclipse, Sharepoint as well as a few others. We have managed to get SIMS, Tucasi and Eclipse back up and running by restoring from backups. However, I haven't got a clue where to start with restoring Sharepoint 2010. The databases have been backed up onto our DPM 2012 box and I have now re-created a new VM to host the sharepoint site. Currently, I have installed SQL 2008 R2, Sharepoint 2010 and all updates. How do I go about restoring the databases to get this sharepoint site back up and running as soon as possible? Do I have to create a new site collection and create fresh databases, which I then restore over with the backed up databases? Finally, another problem is that the majority of the databases on the DPM box will only restore to the same SQL instance as before. I have setup SQL with the same instance name, but I am unable to restore the databases because the DPM agent is not installed on this new VM. I am reluctant to install the agent at the minute just in case it causes the backed up databases to get written over therefore, losing our information. I hope that the above makes sense to someone and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. J.Worth.

Hi All We have recently moved our 2 SIMS Databases over to a 2008R2 SQL Cluster and they are working fine. However... We can't get Discover to work, it keeps coming up with 'There has been an issue loading the catalog. This has been logged. Would you like to try and load the catalog again?' I logged a case with Capita, however they closed the case as they don't support SQL Clusters!! Anyone else know how to fix the problem and also had issues with Capita not support cluster environments? Thanks! Tom

Bit of a weird one but one of my central/North London independent school clients requires a developer to build a page in firefly that displays results from a SIMS Assessment Manager marksheet, filtered to only show results from pupils that the logged-in user teaches. So would need to know firefly (or be able to develop software or scripts in asp.net and/or sql) In addition to this they need to create online forms that have some fields that are pre-populated from SIMS, specific to the logged on users. In more detail, these are holiday consent forms that they are asking parents to complete, of which we have most of the data already held in SIMS, however the parent must confirm all of these details on the holiday consent form. Is anyone interested in this consultancy work? Not sure on a suitable rate but open to offers
