i am useing Win Server 2008, Moodle , php 5.3 , Mysql i have a instalition problem for moodle there is error mesage error mesage is "function.mkdir'>function.mkdir]: Permission denied " in .... \wwwroot\index\moodle\lib\setuplib.php on line 167 i looked moodle code but i can't understant. you can see the code i ask my hosting and they say you have write permision and i can instal same domain. thansk for helps

Hi All - long time reader first time poster, hope someone here can lend a hand I work as a tech support in a college using RM CC3, and an IT lecturer has asked me to look into a way that students can be taught SQL, in the locked down environment that we give them. The first problem I have is that said lecturer has written some code in Visual Basic Express, linking to a database on her network drive. SQL will not support UNC or remote accessing the database, meaning we will have to access it locally (C:\ drive) - this is no good to us unfortunately. We have thought about installing Virtual PC and then putting an image into their user area, but we are conscious that giving students an essentially free reign over a PC may have repurcussions with what they do on the network! What do you other schools/colleges/HE's do for teaching SQL? what environment and software do you use? Cheers Mark

Im having some trouble with a MySQL database that I've been using with an online application form i developed a few weeks back. I thought I had finished the form as i didn't have any errors until we have come to test it over the past few days. The problem is When 2 different users use the form, or the same user closes the browser and starts a new session, the newest data will overwrite all other data in each field across all tables. Also if one person is filling out the form and a second users then starts a few moments after, the first person is then referred to the beginning when they move forward a page as the data base has lost all previous information. you can see the form at www.moorpark.lancs.sch.uk/teachapp/ the pages go as follows with each step page running an included 'process' page default.asp step-2.asp -process-1.asp step-3.asp -process-2.asp step-4.asp -process-3.asp step-final.asp -process-4.asp if needed i can sort out some paste bins of the full page code. Hello everyone, I hope someone can help with my current Moodle problem. . . I upgraded from Moodle 1.9.5 to 1.9.9 using the moodle.org package. This also upgraded my server's PHP, Apache and mySQL, of course. I now find I cannot use my previous 1.9.5 database or moodledata folder. The best I can manage is a completely new and empty install of Moodle 1.9.9, using the default database and moodledata folder. Any attempts to 'point' Moodle 1.9.9 at the 1.9.5 database and/or moodledata folder result in the dreaded 'Database connection failed. It is possible that the database is overloaded or otherwise not running properly' error. mySQL can see the 1.9.5 database and run commands on it. Running mysqlcheck shows several tables as corrupt with the error 'Incorrect key file'. Using mysqlcheck's '--auto-repair --optimize' and mysql's 'repair' doesn't change this. I should probably say I am running this on a Windows Server 2003 machine, which may surprise none of you. Please don't shout at me, I had nothing to do with that decision - I am merely the poor sap who has a broken Moodle just before the start of a new academic year. Finally, apologies if the solution is elsewhere on here or t'internet in general. Trust me, I have looked, but as time has gone on and my brain has become ever more fried I may have missed it.

Hi there, I would like to create a feature in Moodle where in the admin can create Departments, have multiple section in those departments and have many areas in those sections. These areas would eventually have members/students in them. But in this way each of my student would belong to a particular area, a section and eventually a department. I would like to assign a manager for my department, a supervisor for each of my sections and areas. Also these departments should be able to access courses and various activities within that course. Now firstly is this achieveable? Is there already a feature in Moodle which can do all of what I have said? If yes, then where? If not then where I should start building my module directory wise? Can any one give me some starting point ? Thanks in advance

We have had a new website developed for us and are in the process of setting it up. It is a PHP based site with MySQL running on a Windows 2008 R2 Server with IIS. Although the website works and can be accessed it is very very very slow to load each page. My thoughts are that it is have trouple connecting efficiently to MySQL however I have very little experience in troubleshooting these issues. The Web Development company we are using are out of ideas. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated - I can PM you the link to the site if needed.

My problem is that it does the sum calculation first, so whatever date range I put in it will add all the contents of the columns - any suggestions? T

I am currently trying to write a quick page for use with our phones, to centralise phonebook results. I have all the staff phone extensions, and email addresses in one place - our active directory. This is kept up to date, as it is a nice place to do so. I also have the freepbx 'users' table, which contains a list of all the phone extensions on the system. This includes all the phone numbers from the active directory, but not email addresses. It also has extra extensions such as 'Year 5 block' etc... So neither list contains everything. Now, rather than having to create Active Directory objects for the non-people extensions, is there a way I can merge the results from a php ldap_search and a mysql_query? I made the initial mistake of iterating through each line of the ldap array and if they matched, output one thing, if they didn't then output another. But this meant that every single row contained every single record from the mysql array... I can think of one way of dealing with it, this being a third array which I add the index values to when a match is made, which is checked by the above loops, and if that row has already been output then it isn't output again, but this seems very messy. So any ideas? I can post snippets of code if that will help.

I'm trying to use innova editor on a web application form for the school i work at, and everything so far is good however, for the application form we have a small section where an applicant is required to fill in a a section on experience and achievements, so do to this i thought using text to html would be a good idea as it would include all the line breaks and formatting when i later recall everything from the database. My problem lies when a new application is started and it gets to step 3 which has my textarea (code below) it returns with the error 'Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a005e' Invalid use of Null: 'Replace'. The text area will work fine when i remove the 'function enclodeHTML' but I'm a little worried that it then wont save my text as it should? The field on the MySQL database is using a LONGTEXT just for safe measure, and i would revert back to to a plain textarea but id lose all formatting. Hi, We have Moodle installed with its database setup on a SQL Server, is it possible to move this database across in with the data intact into a MySQL database. I have tried exporting with EMS MsManager however, the file size is 109 MB, the limit for an import into PHPmyAdmin is 2 MB. We understand that we may have to hand edit some of the table creation SQL, but just wondered if there is a cheap (FREE) alternative anyone could recommend. Paul

We’ve decided to move away from our LEA provided VLE for various reasons, and boldly go forward and create our own. We’ve chosen Moodle for this purpose as it offers us a great deal of flexibility to really tailor the system to our specific needs. Our setup is as follows: Internally we are running a well specified HP server with Windows server 2003 r2. We use Xampp which runs both Apache and MySQL services. Our Moodle MySQL database is setup and managed via phpMyAdmin. Externally we rent a managed webserver from United Hosting. It’s running CentOS which is based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux. They support Moodle and the associated services and scripts required – It’s running the LAMP environment (Apache, MySQL and PHP) UK Dedicated Server Management Overview - Included Server Management - Initial Server Setup - Ongoing Dedicated Server Maintenance - Server Security and Performance Tweaks Gives an overview of what their managed service provides. After a little troubleshooting which boiled down to correcting the variables in the hosted config.php file, we successfully migrated our internal Moodle data to the hosted system and from that perspective, it’s all functioning as expected. Now, this is where it gets interesting.. At the moment, our web based Moodle is sitting idle, in maintenance mode ready for when we are in a position to fully use it. We’re currently running with our internal system and looking forward to offering staff and pupils online access from home. Users will access our internal moodle via a shortcut to the server. From home, via a web address. These of course point to two separate systems. We require two way real time (or as close as possible) synchronisation/replication between our two moodle servers. In additional to the realtime MySQL database replication we also need to ensure relevant moodle files (moodledata and htdocs\moodle) are also kept in sync. If a pupil uploads some homework onto the hosted web version, we need that to also show on our internal system (and vice versa). We’ve gone with this setup as it provides great internal access speeds, pupil/staff home access over the web, redundancy and resilience. The support we are receiving from our hosting company is very good but I’d like to gain additional perspective, ideas and help on this technical challenge. It’s a very new area for us and I would really appreciate some advice, software suggestions etc as to how to achieve this. I’d be very keen to hear from people who are running a similar setup and have experience in this area, are thinking of moving in this direction or just have a good idea. In turn, when we are successfully running our system I would be very happy to share my experiences, provide advice and lessons learned. Thank you all in advance!

Hi All, I have a "i know it can be done" kind of question. In SQL server you can schedule and run a store procedure and have the results of the store procedure emailed to you. However, I need to achieve the same result in mysql, any ideas how to achieve this? Thanks in advance

Ive got a bit of knowledge of PHP but not enough to construct a working search box for the school site. I have created a table full of telephone numbers, names and departments. I have created a page that displays the info, all I need is a simple search to find records in a table named telephone. There are 6 rows ID (primary) - not really fussed about this one int_no - Internal Number ext_no - External Number mob_no - Mobile Number name - other - location / department info It would be amazing if I could construct some kind of ajax search, but this is not essential. I can connect to the db and table alright, the problem comes when I start searching. I want the user to be able to search the last 5 rows (I dont want users searching the ID as this will just confuse things) and display the results in a table. I have been having issues adding clients to my fog install. I can't add them from the web side or from the windows client. I have found that the ability for the fog clients to add themselves to the system has been removed from version .29, but this doesn't explain why I can't manually add new hosts. I'm wondering if it's an issues with MYSQL. a little back ground.... The server started it's life with Fog as a CentOS server. Then this summer I moved it to a Ubuntu 10.04 install. After following the guide on the Fog Wiki I backed up the database and the clients images and moved them into the new install. This summer I didn't have any 'new' computers that I had to setup. Now that I have new computers for the fog system I'm finding this error. Does anyone have an idea of what is wrong and how to fix it? Thanks

Hello, I'm involved with a group of Yoga studios with teachers that often go around to different schools and teach at different times. I'm requesting some help with modding the tables for MRBS. Plan on running LAMP, open to suggestions on the absolutely, easiest one click graphic distro setup for same on a cheap intel box. I really find MRBS brilliant especially in its simple relational design. What I want to do is mod it ( At least I think I have to mod it ) to serve as a reminder system for teachers, so it will email them a user-defined length of time before a class starts, reminding them when they should be where. The classes and locations have to be user defined, the times can be on the hour for now, I can fix that later. So the user sequence would be 1)Teacher goes to studiocollectivesomething.org 2) Create or login to account with email and PW 3) Go to config screen with list of rules 4) Rule consists of a) Week choice in month ( 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 1st and 3rd, 2nd and 4th) b) Number of weeks to repeat and/or end date c) Self defined label describing location ( Joe's Yoga) d) How long before class you want to be reminded , reminder #1 and #2 configurable. e) How long is the class 1-164 hours, limit one week 5) Then the system running cron or similar would check and send reminders out. Don't know if I'm allowed to offer money here, but I would be willing to hire someone to do the mods if interested. thanks to all.

I've got MySQL master-master replication setup fine on two servers. I was wondering if theres a solution to this, if one server goes down it ends up out of sync with the other server. Is there any way automatically on startup for it to try and get up to date with the other server. I know i could do that manually but it would be time consuming and ideally i would like it to be automated. Thanks Jack
