Hi I found a vb script which allows you to automatically set the hardware acceleration level on PC's. This is useful if you are having graphics cards issues with things such as Rhino 3D etc and beats doing it manually. Have a gander here

I have been using a script I wrote about 4 years ago to set users' signatures on login. This has worked fine until a couple of days ago when vbscript has started throwing an error: Error: Object doesn't support this property or method: 'NewMessageSignature' Code: 800A01B6 Source: Microsoft VBScript runtime error I have stripped the rather long script down into the raw basics of generating a signature of a single word and adding it (no AD queries etc to interfere or cause problems). The signature is added and I can see it if I go into outlook under the signatures preferences, but the signature is not added for new or reply messages. The block of code it falls over on is: objSignatureEntries.Add strSignatureName, objSelection objSignatureEntries.NewMessageSignature = strSignatureName objSignatureEntries.ReplyMessageSignature = strSignatureName I have not deployed any new WSUS updates around the time of this problem appearing, and the script has been unchanged for at least a year. This is happening on both Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010. Has anyone got any ideas or suggestions, or has anyone else started experiencing this problem? Now that VBScript is going end-of-life, we are once again having to look at how we make print queues available to users. Currently we have a logon script for students (and student-like accounts, such as exam accounts) that runs a VBScript that connects to the appropriate print queues, based on the AD computer object’s Location attribute. It also has logic around retrying if the connection isn’t successful the first time. We’ve tried GPO deployment in the past and found it to be too unreliable. It’s not good enough for it to work every other login, it needs to work every time consistently or we can’t use it. GPO deployment has no mechanism to enable retrying the printer connection if it doesn’t work the first time. We block PowerShell for students, so we can’t just turn the script into a PowerShell script, unless there’s a way to block PowerShell except for logon scripts PaperCut Print Deploy is out, as we’d have to pay an additional fee to have more than one Zone, and maintaining the Zones would be a nightmare as it doesn’t have any functionality around looking at the computer object’s Location attribute Given the above limitations, can anyone suggest a method we can use for print queue deployment to students in place of our existing VBScript?

I am trying to fine tune a vbs script that I am using to open a program as shell when the user logs on and to automatically log the user off when the program is closed. I have tried just setting the program as shell on the computer but it does not log off when the program is closed. This is what I have right now. Mainly it is just not very reliable as when the user logs on it sometimes logs off before the program even opens. User sometimes has to log in 5 or 6 times before it works properly. I also want to eventually make the script to also log off the user after a set amount of inactivity. Any help would be nice to make it more reliable when starting up.

Hi I am wanting to change the xp pro login screen background to a custom image. I only want to chnage the login screen and not the background after the user has loggerd in. Does anyone know how to do this? regards

right, this is my first block i've met and I have battled with it for a long time basically, i want a script that logs the computer off when the LAN connection to my server is stopped (and incidentally saving username, time and any open programs), cause the students keep removing the LAN cable and are then unable to reconnect to the network, and consequently unable to save then they have a need for me to keep coming and reconnect them and save their work to my laptop as we log them off and re log the in! this is getting a real pain as im still struggling to repair what the previous admin has left behind!

Hi, I am currently trying to map an extra network drive for pupils on log on. We use simple bat files normally and this works fine for us for now, however I am trying to use a VB as this script needs to be a little more complex. The script checks the first two characters of the computer name and then only allows a network drive to map for certain machines (by room number). I can get this to work with any admin or staff account, but not a pupil account. I believe that this is due to restrictions we have set up to 'lockdown' our network. I have tried researching adding user credentials into the script but always receive the same error message when running the code. Following this message I have tried a bit of script to remove cached user credentials, to no avail. I'm trying to use innova editor on a web application form for the school i work at, and everything so far is good however, for the application form we have a small section where an applicant is required to fill in a a section on experience and achievements, so do to this i thought using text to html would be a good idea as it would include all the line breaks and formatting when i later recall everything from the database. My problem lies when a new application is started and it gets to step 3 which has my textarea (code below) it returns with the error 'Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a005e' Invalid use of Null: 'Replace'. The text area will work fine when i remove the 'function enclodeHTML' but I'm a little worried that it then wont save my text as it should? The field on the MySQL database is using a LONGTEXT just for safe measure, and i would revert back to to a plain textarea but id lose all formatting. You can view the form at http://www.moorpark.lancs.sch.uk/supportapp/ but in order to get to step 3 you'll have to fill it out will dummy data to get through the first step (i can clear it all out later) and here is a snippet of the code for the textarea with the innova editor. Hi, I run a 60 site education network with approx 22,000 users. Some of them share posts in different schools and this has always been a pain in the neck for me. Each school is setup as it's own site with it's own drive mappings and services, what I am looking for is a way to present the user with a menu when they log in, and select which school they are at and then map the appropriate drives. Generally there are only two that are mapped, the pupils shared area and the staff shared area. I'm ok with PowerShell scripting otherwise I couldn't manage Exchange, but VB scripting is beyond me ! Help please ?

Hi Guys, i need to automate the deletion of folders and files within 90 Home Directories. as the file and folder names can be anything this script has to work on the assumption that files and folder names are not known. Cheers Ryan

I got a bunch of directories from external software program. The name always start from 1 and forwards depending on the number of the cycle in external program. Now, assuming that I have a text file (Test.txt) with one random number that I've calculated. My goal is to change to a directory name with this string value and then plot a scatter diagram for the csv file inside this Folder. I wrote the following vbs script to automatically do this, but excel cannot find the file. Problem here is the parentfolder from Result.csv. How do i set the string value (MyVar) so that it can be used as path? Lately I've been looking for a way to monitor students when they're taking tests on a computer by automatically making screenshots every 30 (or so) seconds. After a little investigation into monitoring tools like iTALC and Impero I soon came to the conclusion that I would have to make something myself, as I was unable to find anything that resembled my need. I found a freeware utility called nirCmd and created a visual basic script around it. I'm no scripting expert and it probably could be improved a lot, but nevertheless I'd like to share it with the community. You can find it here on github. Sander

Hi all im a total noob when it comes to scripts. hate writing them! im looking at you lot and if you can help me I have download a program called "display changer" by 12 noon and wanting to set a display resolution on certain laptops and pcs. also i have shared the folder with the command line program modules on the server and would like to set up a vbscript for a group policy upon logon to run the scripts that then tell each users that there resolution is set to what ever i set it at and where the program modules are on the server if some one can help me create a simple vbscript so it will run these modules from a logon script that would be great anyone whos not sure what the program is about here is the link Display Changer « 12noon also i did setup a shortcut for the screen to change but they only work when i double click on them and not when they are placed within a startup script \\server1\dc$\dccmd.exe -width=max -height=max -quiet thanks

Alright, so I have looked around on the internet for a while now, and I haven't even found somebody with the same question as me! Basically we are setting up Network Shares for Professional Development for each of the departments at our school, and I need to map drives for them. I have created Security Groups for each department in AD, and a share for each department as well. I know how to map Network Drives for people based on Security Groups through Logon Scripts using VBScript, but the problem is I have people in Multiple Departments, and not enough Drive Letters to give each Department its own letter. So: Is there a way to either assign a drive that has multiple letters, such as "VPAPD:\" or map say, the "P:\" drive to an empty directory, then based on the Security Group they are in, create Folders within that "P" drive for their Departments PD Share? Almost all of the Teachers are using Terminal Services to a Windows Server 2003 box, but will eventually be rolled to RDS on 2008 R2. We have an Active Directory domain, and our current Domain Controller is a Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise x64 Box, but will eventually be rolled to Server 2008 R2.

Hi guys, I have a very annoying issue (either that or I'm being blonde!) I am trying to run this script to map part of a piece of software to teacher laptops, however the script doesn't work and I can't see where I am going wrong, even after changing certain parts of it.
