Hi all, Left LA a while ago but my AD domain is still name.region.sch.uk which I'd like to change (if its not going to cause me too many problems). Our domain has always been that named that way instead of ****.pri or ****.local since before I worked here. Has anyone ever renamed their domain ? If so how did you do it? I take it that all the client machines had to be rejoined ? Cheers in advance

Hi All, I'm pretty new to Powershell and I find myself struggling to do something that is probably pretty basic. I have a list of student names and email addresses on a CSV. I need to use that information to extract the sam account names from AD so I can then run another script to set all the students' passwords. The csv has headers Name,Year,Group,Firstname,Surname,Email I've tried this: Import-csv C:\list.csv |foreach-object {$mail = $_."email"get-aduser -filter {mail -eq $mail} select-object name, samaccountname, mail |export-csv c:\logonids.csv -Append -Encoding UTF8} Whenever I run it I get a list of each username appear on screen. About halfway thru this pops up: get-aduser : The search filter cannot be recognizedAt line:4 char:1+ get-aduser -filter {mail -eq $mail}+ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ + CategoryInfo : NotSpecified: ( [Get-ADUser], ADException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : ActiveDirectoryServer:8254,Microsoft.ActiveDirectory.Management.Commands.GetADUser The output file is created but, needless to say, is empty. I really don't know what I am doing Any help??

Does anyone know of any good one or two day basic AD training? I would like to send my technician on something. Something that incorporates a little bit of policies maybe. Preferably in the South East region. I know there used to be a woman named Sarah Something in the Reigate area but she doesn't do it anymore, which is a shame as she was really good.

I've been looking for somthing to do this for years. Directory List

EduGeeks. As a designer and implentation engineer for networks across numerious Education sites I am often asked to implement more secure (or just simple) methods of VLAN assignments. (Especially as converged wireless solutions become more and more prevelant). I have now standardised on a 2003 IAS / AD solution that uses the clients AD login as the primary method to determin which VLAN to assign the port to. (The solution obviously can also assign guest access, MAC address assignment for VLAN etc as well as QoS assignment based on login). My question however is this. From your considerable EduGeek experience would this be "your" prefered method of VLAN assignment/Security or do you think there is a better way / angle I should approach this from. Fingers on buzzers and thanks for your input !

When look at the disk quota in notice a lot of entries stating "Account information unavailable" and instead of a user name you just get the SID, now i'm guessing these are users that have been deleted. How can i get rid of the files associated with these SID's? Please can someone help cause it's really doing my head in. Thanks in advance

I got a bunch of directories from external software program. The name always start from 1 and forwards depending on the number of the cycle in external program. Now, assuming that I have a text file (Test.txt) with one random number that I've calculated. My goal is to change to a directory name with this string value and then plot a scatter diagram for the csv file inside this Folder. I wrote the following vbs script to automatically do this, but excel cannot find the file. Problem here is the parentfolder from Result.csv. How do i set the string value (MyVar) so that it can be used as path? Thank you for the input StrFileName = "C:\Users\tanzil\Desktop\Test\Test.txt" Set ObjFso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") Set ObjFile = ObjFso.OpenTextFile(StrFileName) MyVar = ObjFile.ReadAll Set ObjFso = Nothing WScript.Echo MyVar ObjFile.AddFromString MyVar ObjFile.Close Set objExcel = CreateObject("Excel.Application") objExcel.Visible = True objExcel.DisplayAlerts = False Source1 = "C:\Users\tanzil\Desktop\Test\" Set objWorkbook = objExcel.Workbooks.Open(Source1 & MyVar &"\Result.csv") ' =====> Issue here Set xlmodule = objWorkbook.VBProject.VBComponents.Add(1) strCode = _ .......................... .......................... xlmodule.CodeModule.AddFromString strCode objExcel.Run "Evac_Curve" Set xlmodule = Nothing objExcel.Quit

In order to support a large number of Macintosh clients, I need to change the Primary Group of most of my Active Directory users from Domain Users to one of three different user groups. This is easily done on a per user basis, but I am looking to make changes to thousands of users at a time. Does anyone have any experience with this and/or able to recommend a 3rd party app to get it done? Running Win2k3 Server Thanks in advance for any insight.

Ive got a directory that ive ran the following commands on chown -hR jack:www zage chmod -R 775 zage This seems to change the directory security correctly, heres the output from ls -l drwxr-xr-x 3 jack www 4096 2008-01-11 00:02 zage But from my ftp server a user who is in the www cant create a folder or delete a folder already in the directory. The FTP server seems to be using the users details not just a standard account on the system. Oh yer its Ubuntu 7.10 Server Edition that im using Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this because im stumped Thanks Jack D
