Good Evening All, I am looking for the SIMS Training Datasets such as Green Abby and if they are still available. I can't seem to find them anywhere on the Capita My Account website. Was wondering if maybe someone could provide me with a link to the page I need, or some kind of article number? Or is this a case of I need to contact Capita Service Desk? Many Thanks James

Azure and AWS is not the only cloud service provider out there. Oracle in order to get people qualified (ok for the fundamentals of their system) and (what I can see) hopefully get more people to use their "as a service", they are offering their fundamental training and exam for free. Not sure if this is a time limited offering, but I can say that the course was interesting, even if it is just to compare what is out there and to make a more informed decision when deciding on cloud services You can access the training and exam here.

Hi all, I know we have run a number of sessions with Boxphish on EduGeek over the last 6 months, and off the back of these, we have run a lot of 1-on-1 demos. If you find yourself in a position where you would like to know more about cyber awareness/phishing simulation solutions, or Boxphish in particular - then please let me know and we can set up a 15-20 minute live demo/discussion. These are a great way to see the platform and ask any questions. Alternatively, if you would like some pricing beforehand we can also supply this upfront. Pricing requests have to go over to Boxphish so there is a short delay with this. Video links to previous sessions: Managing Cyber Security Risk in Education - https://www.net-ctrl.com/boxphish-webinar/ Enhancing Cyber Security Awareness - A Client's Perspective - https://www.net-ctrl.com/boxphish-webinar-a-clients-perspective/ Please let me know if you have any questions.

I arrived to the Unplugged event about ten minutes late due to a misguided right turn on the road before the venue which led me several kilometers away to the end of a long queue of traffic which added fifteen minutes to my travel time. I’ll summarize some of the things that I found interesting which you may or may not know about Office 2010. First up Office Web Access, this is an online implementation of the Office applications that replicates much of the functionality of the full Office suite in any standards compliant browser using HTML and JavaScript. Although not full featured it does appear to have a large amount of the functionality and the same UI as the desktop version. To get access to it all you need is a Professional or Standard version of Office 2010, your documents and Office Web Apps can be hosted for free on MS Sky Drive with a Windows Live ID or locally inside your own network on a server with either the free SharePoint Foundation server or full SharePoint Server. The sky drive implementation allows for multiple users to access and edit the documents at the same time. SharePoint goes much further with version tracking, searching and other features. A big thing that I will find useful is the fact that you can embed full Office document views into web pages for easy viewing or printing in any modern browser. No more PDF newsletters or forms, given the rights control on Sky drive you should not even need your own SharePoint server to do this. Just a live ID. The software itself has also, like Windows 7 been written for speed, the minimum requirements were quoted at just 256MB or RAM and a 500MHz CPU on Windows XP SP3 or above. It does apparently use 1.5GB more HD space but I am unsure on this as the Beta was smaller than 2007. Other big global changes are the ribbon, for one the Office Orb is gone - replaced with the trusty File tab for the less adaptable. The ribbon is also fully per user customizable allowing you create whole new tabs on the ribbon with your own choice of commands. These are all stored in an XML file and are deployable with the initial installation, they may also be deployable with Group Policy but I have not confirmed that yet. A small upwards arrow is now also included on the bottom right hand corner of the ribbon to minimize it. You could minimize it in Office 2007 by double clicking any of the tab names in the ribbon but I like many users had not found this feature. Backstage and the ribbon are now in all Office applications too, backstage is the new term for the area that allows you to share your document by printing it, saving it, publishing it to SharePoint or your Sky Drive. This area organizes all of these tasks into an easy common UI to simplify these tasks. One feature that I am excited about in this is the print feature and its automatic preview. The print action will bring up a print preview beside your printing options showing you live what the pages will look like. I don’t know about others but I have tried many times to get users to check the print preview first so they don’t waste paper, this shoves it in their face as a matter of course which is a great improvement. OneNote, the note taking and organizing program is now included in all editions of Office which is another positive step as it is a very good tool for gathering and processing information. Its tasks also still follow you into Outlook to remind you to follow up on the content. PowerPoint has quite a few new tricks, the first of which is an entirely rewritten graphics engine based on DirectX9. This means much fancier and smoother transitions and effects, probably even over an RDP connection as RDP now encapsulates some DirectX stuff. This should still run on a PC without a DX9 GPU though as it can be rendered in software so it won’t stop working on older machines. There are new graphics tools like the easy background removal tool which can usually strip out the background of a photo with very little effort; this little trick was picked up out of MS research’s bag of tricks. Thanks to the new graphics engine and the new video features it is now easy to grab a video from somewhere and crop out the beginning or end. You can also apply transforms on the video of shape, color or other enhancements just like you can with images. PowerPoint now also includes a broadcast feature which will turn your slides into an HTML and JavaScript version then upload them to a space on Sky Drive giving you a link in return. You can send this link to you participants and as you progress through the slides on your PC they progress on the participants PCs to. This feature does not include all of the flash transitions because of the lack of the DX9 engine the web solution and will not transport your voice across but is still quite cool. SharePoint Workspace is the renamed and upspec’ed version of the old Groove collaboration tool. It is like an offline files feature for your SharePoint server allowing you to check out and work on documents then sync them back. This uses intelligent file management and tracking so that only changes are synced, very important if you are working remotely and change two words in a 500MB PowerPoint stack. This can be controlled by group policy and configured to work in a peer to peer fashion like Groove also. Outlook has been much improved, behind the scenes and in front. It now supports up to ten Exchange Server accounts in a single MAPI profile allowing you to have Outlook connecting to different schools Exchange Servers if you deal with more than one site. The nickname cache (.nk2 files) feature where Outlook remembers all addresses that you typed in the “to” box is now server side meaning no more complaining users (about this fault) when their profiles have to be reset. As it’s on the server it follows you between clients and even to webmail. The favorites have also gotten the same treatment allowing for the same experience. Quicksteps are another new feature, kind of like macros for Outlook allowing you to complete a string of common tasks with a single click, one of the built in ones are reply and delete but you can customize and add more to suite your work flow. Outlook Social Connector is an extension that is built in to Office 2010 but is downloadable for 2007 and 2003. Personally I don’t think that the name does it justice as it is more of a compiler of information. By default it will show you all previous emails from the contact in question and pull personal information on the contact from your local SharePoint if it exists. The big feature for me is that is also shows you in a list all of the attachments that you have received from the user and allows you to go right to them something which has eaten far too much of my time in the past. There is a plug-in for LinkedIn which will grab details from there too but this is about as close as it gets to the Social aspect of its name. Excel has seen a large amount of performance tuning allowing truly huge datasets, massive with the 64bit version and access to even more ram. One of the demos was a comparison of the graphing engines when faced with a huge dataset (hundreds of thousands of rows I think). Office 2003 rendered it but took several seconds and the redraws were slow and jerky, Office 2007 crashed like a champ after about ten seconds and 2010 rendered it in less than a second with very quick redraws. It could even resize it smoothly. Are there file format changes between 2007 and 2010? Yes but these are minor between Office 2007 SP2 and 2010, they should still open fine. Will there be an Office 2010 Compatibility Pack for Office 2003? Possibly. What about security warning dialogue boxes? Outlook now runs automatically in sandboxed mode allowing the user to see a non active version of the document without a warning, they will only be prompted to enable the document if they open it and want macros. This can be turned off in group policy.

Every year Microsoft holds several 'Unplugged' events which are usually two free half day presentations on their new software. I have been to several of these events and they are quite good with presentations given by knowledgeable people within Microsoft and it is a great opertunity to ask questions and make contacts along with getting a heads up on the latest developments. They are free to attend, you just have to register your name with an email address. This march the events are focused on Office 2010 and Sharepoint 2010 held the first and second half of the day respectivly. Session 1: What's new for IT Professionals in Office 2010 8:45am - 10:30am Morning Tea Break 10:30am - 11:00am Session 2: SharePoint 2010 Overview 11:00am - 12:30pm Wellington: 2 March - Intercontinental Hotel Wellington Christchurch: 3 March - Christchurch Convention Centre Dunedin: 4 March - Scenic Circle Southern Cross Auckland: 9 March - SkyCity Convention Centre Hamilton: 10 March - SkyCity Hamilton Full details and links to register can be found here: http://www.microsoft.com/nz/events/unplugged/technet-mar10.mspx I will probably be attending the Auckland one if I can make it and hope to see some other schools represented there too. http://www.microsoft.com/library/media/5129/nz/events/images/unplugged/header.gif

Hi all Just a little question for you. Is there any worth to doing a Exchange 2007 training course that deals primarily with configuration? The reason I ask is that installing Exchange 2007 is pretty easy and with their Best Practices Analyzer tool, you can get pretty much everything as far as setup goes sorted, but where I'm a little worried is the actual config of Exchange goes i.e. how do I know if i configured everything correctly? are the send connectors setup correctly and do i really understand how they work? did i manage to move all the databases and files to the appropriate iSCSI storage places? etc, etc.. Naturally there is a wealth of info out there but I'm that sort of paranoid kind of person that makes me doubt whether everything I've setup is correct and safe from problems. I found this: MCTS: Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, Configuration - Microsoft Certification Training - SEEK Learning UK that looks to be the kind of thing that would echo what I was after. Has anyone been on one of these courses or anything similar? Was it worth doing? Incidentally, I've had a bit of training that covered the overall stuff i.e. various scenario's, do's and dont's and general stuff, but its the configuring side of things that I'd want to know whether its worth it [or not]. Cheers Nath.

Hi I'm curently working as an ICT Techncian in a school and have recently passed my MCDST. I was wondering if anyone could advise me on what would be the best qualification to pursue next. I was thinking about the MCSE but I'm not sure if there are any other paths that could be lucrative. I do want to work my way up to being an ICT Manager but I was also thinking I may like some qualifications in programming. And maybe even some (Dare I say it) Mac/iOS qualifications. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Does anyone know of any good one or two day basic AD training? I would like to send my technician on something. Something that incorporates a little bit of policies maybe. Preferably in the South East region. I know there used to be a woman named Sarah Something in the Reigate area but she doesn't do it anymore, which is a shame as she was really good.

We've got a few of us monitoring our school's computers - responding to flagged things from classroom.cloud and from smoothwall (needs a few of us because there are SO many things to check). School wondering whether there is any useful training that would help us be better equipped to know what things to worry about. Even the "urgent" captures from classroom.cloud seem mostly to be false alarms - so we'd like to be more than just rely on our gut instinct. We could do the full DSL safeguarding training - but we're only really wanting to be better skilled at the filtering aspect of the role - so the DSL training seems too much. Thanks

Since my current technician (stu) has the cheek to want to better himself by going to uni I'm going to be in need of a new apprentice as of September. I wasn't particularly impressed by Blackpool and Fylde College (where stu studied) so I'm wondering where else there may be to offer me some more options. Ideas people? Also, if anybody is looking for an apprenticeship in this area, feel free to contact me.

Hello, At Net-Ctrl we continue to look at how we may be able to assist organisations in the EDU space throughout the current environment. From conversations we have had with clients we have been impressed with how many are using this time as an opportunity to up-skill on their knowledge, investigate on-going issues or use their time to plan further ahead into the future – and we’re trying to support and enable these users. If you find yourself in this position, please consider the following: Free training – do you have a Ruckus related WiFi issue that has been bugging you, or do you have a new team member that you would like to have some more formal overview training with on any of the Ruckus platforms – if so – we can run webinars or calls to go through these issues. Free content and webinars – are you interested in learning more about the Ruckus SmartZone management console, their ICX switch portfolio or the co-management capabilities? Or perhaps you find yourself with some older equipment and would like a dashboard tour of your possible future upgrades, and to gain some insights into the improvements available. Again, we can provide webinars and information to assist. Please note, these will be run by engineers and not Account Managers – these would be designed to inform and not try to sell. Free predictive wireless surveys – we are still completing free of charge predictive wireless surveys. Perhaps you have a problematic section of your site, or are in the early stages of planning for a potential upgrade – our engineers can review your site using our wireless predictive survey software for you and provide you with a comprehensive report with their findings. If there is anything else that we may be able to help you with, please let me know and we will certainly try to offer support and/or guidance. In addition, please continue to use our support services should you need to call on them. We are engaged with all our manufacturers to ensure support matters are dealt with and equipment reaches those that need it. Please know that we’re to assist and support you during these times.

Hello, could I ask you guys for a little advice please? I've worked as a 1st line support for 5 years, but I want to get a new qualification to improve my chances of finding work as I'm currently between jobs. I'm thinking MCSA at the entry level, such as Desktop or Server qualification - I'm just a bit overwhelmed by how many website seem to offer them, and it's not cheap. So can anyone recommend a website that offers this kind of MCSA and is well-run and trustworthy? Ideally one that you or a friend has used successfully (gained the qualification.) P.S. As a side note I'm also interested in what are considered the best entry-level web design or HTML courses. There seems to be an endless parade of services offering these and the online lists of the 'best' sites are often 10-20 sites long. Can anyone recommend a good entry level qualification, and a site to do it on, which is also going to have some value to an employer. Thanks!

I have been given the nod and the wink by our site manager that the Art department are going to be campaigning for Macs in their new Art block when it's built next year. I am against this, on a number of grounds: * Cost of equipment * Training, for us and staff & students * Likelihood of theft - local thieves have a strong track record of targeting Macs * Difficulty of & limits to integration with the existing network (as I understand it) * I can't see the bloody point, CS5 runs perfectly fine on Win7 x64 and no better on x86-based Macs (to the best of my knowledge) I would, however, like some actual numbers to back me up. Can anyone give me some idea on what work needs to be done to integrate Macs (and how well this integration actualy works), what cost this comes at and how much it costs for technician training? I can cost up the iMacs themselves (just had a look, good lord). I only need ballpark figures to make an argument - should SMT want a full investigation I'll get more detailed prices from a reseller. I just want these figures for now, not a discussion on the benefits of Macs in a school.

Good Afternoon All, I am currently employed as an Assistant IT Manager in a secondary, our old Network Manager has left and we have yet to reappoint, in the interim I was wondering if anyone on here had any recommendations for courses (ones that have a qualification/exam linked to them) to take to learn the relevant networking, routing and switching skills to be a qualified Network Manager? As I would need the school to fund it, the cheaper the better ideally I have completed a Level 4 network engineer course from City and Guilds but it really only touches on the actual networking side of things Any recommendations greatly appreciated

Hi all, Does anybody have any opinions about which partner to use for the DfE Digital Learning Platform grant for Office 365? Any really good / bad experiences? What I'm trying to do is pick a partner that can deliver staff training for Office 365 / Teams that ticks our boxes and not theirs. I've heard of a couple of schools where the training was whizzed through and left staff totally confused and that's what I'm trying to avoid! Has anybody had any outstanding Office 365 / teams training as part of their set up? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Glenn
