Afternoon all, Profile manager is driving me nuts. Basically I'm moving from a 10.9 and Workgroup Manager server environment to a 10.9 client and 10.10 server running profile manager. I have a set of test machines which point at the new mac server running profile manager - I'm not crossing the streams with any current / old systems. I will re-image the estate once (if ever) profile manager is sturdy. My main question is, are there any techies out there who have a successful Profile Manager environment within an education establishment? We have an AD domain and use OD to piggy back on to it. Basically the Mac server just sets user accounts and machine settings - no network files as such are stored on the mac server. Workgroup manager worked a treat and I'm quite comfortable with editing custom plists. Profile manager however just seems to clunky with failed profile installs here and there. Things that I've not got solid yet on the Profile Manager set up are : - desktop wallpaper set from a central network location - sidebar favourites intermittent - exchange settings intermittent (setting server location and username etc) - plus I'm sure lots more that will become apparent

EDIT ADDED A Complete howto on setup for your org https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLk8RygAHqdHfjgZ_UovEv3sNfNaYkbJIh EDIT END So I have decided to make my sheets public but before I go full blown with it I'd like to know how much interest there is in this. Each teacher makes a copy of the attendance sheet for themselves and if the main attendance sheet is updated they are notified within their copied sheet to make a new copy. This is a static version so it only updates if I manually add meet data. Our actual one updates itself every hour with the latest information. Hey, I've been looking everywhere to find some software that will allow my computer (which is hooked up to a monitor via HDMI to be able to be on the duplicate mode and have the second screen frozen (Like it just not moving kind of thing) I found one but it made it so I could only use the extend desktop mode. I would prefer to use the duplicate as I don't have to drag things around to the classroom monitor. Thanks to any body that will help!

Hi all, I am an IT Manager at an Independent School in Kingston. (370 pupils aged 4-13) I have been to look at a couple of other similars schools to see how they run their IT department, what MIS they use, what other systems they use etc. I would like to be able to arrange more of these visits and wondered if anyone was happy to show me round their IT dept and have a chat and exchange some ideas. My school is quite 'behind the times' with IT and I have major plans for the future. If anyone is happy to 'invite me round', I would really appreciate it. Ideally I am looking for Independent Schools, using Sims or ISAMS, that are located in Surrey. Visits would be afternoons.

Does anyone know of any decent free IWB software that is not smart or Promethean? As someone who has moved schools a few times in the last 5 years I am getting a bit sick of the compatibility problems between Promethean and Smart as schools tend to have one and not the other. Law abiding schools (and rightly so) do not like buying licenses for two pieces of software and neither software seems to be able to open the others files perfectly. Re-making resources that you have already made is time consuming and frustrating. Powerpoint does not do all the things I want to do. If there was some free shareware that functions as a whiteboard tool with a decent write, draw and a drag and drop functions then that would solve my problems as schools would not be reluctant to install a free software. Anybody have any ideas?

I have been working at this primary school for 3 years now but unfortunately we have no money at all in our IT budget. There are many reasons for this but the main one is that we bought 36 laptops 4 years ago brand new in trolleys that just are not up to the job. Batteries and wireless problems are the main problem. (Unfixable with no money). So back to basics is the plan second user crt monitors from the local high school are abundant so we need some donated base units with xp pro license (oem attached) with original recovery media if available for compliance. 2 gb processors and 512 memory would be nice as a minimum spec but would not mind adding some second hand memory etc they dont need mint. Has anyone ever done this before or attempted to do this before? Can your school/business offer any donated base units? We plan to use work experience people to help us install the units. Openoffice and other freeware and our existing site licensed software like textbase textease etc If you can help us please PM me or reply to this thread.
