spmartin27 replied to spmartin27's topic in How do you do....it?
I've only been for a look round, but i need to go back document everything they have at some point, bosses want to know! -
Hi Guys, I wonder if someone could give me some guidance on this please. i work for a trust of schools and I've just been told that we're taking over another school. we have had a look round the school and the previous I.T manager had left no documentation whatsoever so i have no idea what systems have been put in. I've been tasked to put a document together and do some sort of whole school audit, find out what has been put in, what's running on the server, WiFi, printers, what equipment they currently have etc. does anyone have some sort of documentation i could follow as a template i would be really grateful.

Hi, we have two servers in the one school 1 curriculum domain 1 Admin domain each have their own DHCP,DNS and such i believe a trusted domain was setup between them both. we currently have SIMS installed on the admin server but we need to roll it out to the teacher laptops that are on the curriculum domain, when you open SOLUS 3 deployment i can see some laptops but not all of them and i'm not sure why. when i try to deploy to a discovered laptop it seems to fail i thought it could be windows firewall blocking it from installing and its not we thought it could be McAfee could be blocking the install. has anyone had to do this before? any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

We are running the DC as a VM on our only hyper-v server - all servers are running Windows Server 2012 r2
-
We only have one Doman controller.

quick version, run windows updates on server and did restarts, shut the physical server down to give it a dusting out as it was caked in it. booted it back up everything seemed fine until Monday morning when the teaching staff could not login. check DC and all teacher user accounts had gone missing! since then we have had two Windows 7 desktop clients failing to apply GP updates, user can login OK to the machine but is missing all the key Group Policies. the user can logon to another computer else where and everything is fine. I have tried everything i can think of but still no closer to a fix when you run gpresult /r i get a message saying the user does not have RSOP data i would be grateful to any suggestions you might have.

Hi Guys, i will give you the story, we was running windows updates on our physical hyper-v server over the half term, did some reboots and such, came back up fine. shut the server down as you do and cleaned all the dust out as it was caked in it. plugged it all in, switched it on, everything was still fine. logged in did a quick check as you do. made sure the Domain Controller VM was back up and it was fine. this week Monday we had a phone call saying the all the teachers cannot login, OK. so i logged into the DC VM gone into AD and the teacher OU was there but all the teacher user accounts had gone? no one has been on the server apart from myself to run updates and reboots. i am an honest person and if i had done this i would own up. we cannot work out why this might of happened, i sure windows updates would not cause this nor doing a shutdown. any ideas, has anyone had anything like this happen before? we would like to know why this might of happened. today - two of their desktops on the Domain have stopped working, they do not want to pick up any Group Polices. the user can login but they are missing all the essential GP's I've tried everything and to no avail, this has only happened since the teacher user accounts went missing on Monday. when i did a gpresult /r - i got a message saying the user has does not have RSOP data tired logging in as other people on that machine, same thing. logged in as Domain admin, same thing i got the user to logon else where and his user profile was fine. I've taken the machine off the domain, deleted it from AD re-joined it back, tried/checked DNS, DHCP, gave it a static IP nothing only thing i haven't tried is - changing the computer name - move the desktop somewhere else and try? Again any idea's guys before i go mad!

Hey Guys, need a little help, ive done a fresh install of windows 10 edu on a HP Prodesk 400 G1 Desktop, it seems to install fine allows me to change the options and then i get a white screen with a small box in the top left hand corner it looks like its trying to do something as there is a loading bar just underneath it for some strange reason it just hangs and doesnt move off this screen, i thought it might be a driver issue but it seems its not as ive booted it into sysprep and installed all the drivers and then did a restart and got the same thing i was thinking resoluton but i cant see how that would resolve it. its really annoying to say the least. im using windows 10 x64 edu which i got from VLSC and burnt it directly to a USB drive using rufus. anyone got any ideas or experienced this before? i have attached a picture so you can see what im looking at.

spmartin27 replied to spmartin27's topic in Educational Software
Thank you for such a prompt reply, Forgive me but I'm new to all this, would you mind walking me though the process on what I need to do. -
i have been tasked with setting up python in our computer science lab, part of their course is to learn python. i herd that there has been many problems with installing python in schools one being that the default save directory is on the C:\\ drive which is no good. is there a way of installing this successfully? the default save directory will need to be in student documents area. i would appreciate any advise.
