Hello, We've had a new batch of Lenovo laptops this year with a different network card to previous models. If I try and PXE boot the laptop, using the current WIM file, it errors with an error message saying no driver present. I have tracked down the right driver and I have imported this into MDT (I know it's the right one as I can PXE Boot fine if I specify the drivers on an attached USB stick), and I have Updated the deployment share, with and without rebuilding boot images. The problem I’m having is that even after updating the share, the existing WIM still complains about the driver (I’m assuming this is expected behaviour.) But when I try and PXE off of the new LiteTouch WIM file, which I have imported into WDS, Windows starts to load and then instantly crashes (BSOD) with an IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error message. Has anybody come across this before? I’m still fairly new to MDT as this is the first year we've made changes to it since it was installed last summer as part of BSF. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Hi All, I have having some issues loading web pages, either receiving time out or security errors such as the this from random sites such as Collins connect. I did initially have the same sort of fault with the YPO website but seem to be able to mitigate the error i was receiving by adding the reg key as detailed here (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2553967) The issues are mainly present on the internal networks and using IE, less so on my guest network (DHCP from router direct to filter) and using chrome, however still present to some extent. Has anybody else had these of similar issues? DC 2012R2 Workstation Win 7 64 Hosted Schools Broadband Lightspeed Web Filter Mikrotik Router

Hi Need some advice, I have a HP Envy Laptop with Windows 8.1 on it, this week i dual booted this with Windows 7 for compatibility reasons. I used "Parted Magic" to partition the Hard drive in half. 50% to Windows 8 and 50% for Windows 7 I then installed Windows 7 in the empty partition. Everything installed fine and is up and running. Now...... instead of there being the usual Windows 8 boot manager, I now have Windows 7 boot manager. Due to preference, Is there anyway to get the Windows 8 boot manager back?? Any help would be appreciated. thanks

I've got a rather strange issue with Google Drive on only one Windows 7 64 bit workstation. For some reason Drive will no longer connect to the Internet and as such won't sync. The Drive tray icon is greyed-out and gives me no options to edit any settings or preferences. All other workstations that run Google Drive are absolutely fine which eliminates any network firewall related issues that could be blocking the connection. Our Internet connection is working without issues. We do run behind a proxy provided by the LA. Updates are applied to Windows 7 but are always tested before deployment in the event it causes any issues such as this. So far I have: - Reinstalled Google Drive - Tried temporarily disabling Eset Endpoint Anti-Virus - Added drive to Windows Firewall - Temporarily disabled Windows Firewall - Tried stopping and then restarting Drive by running it manually from C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Drive\googledrivesync.exe - Rebooted the machine a number of times - Checked the drive logs which give an output as follows: 2015-10-13 10:13:55,614 +0100 INFO pid=4484 4532:LaunchThreads common.sync_app:1668 Network initializing account: ConnectionFailure: 'Error [Errno 10061] No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it', recovery plan: RecoveryPlan.UNKNOWN, recovery targets: set([]) I am currently at a loss with this so any help would be great! Thanks!

Hi i have a computer that has been built for teacher use a couple years ago, i will refer this as "Domain A" the computer now isnt used by teacher but is to be used by other members of staff needing access to another domain "Domain B" "Domain A" is hosted on site and "Domain B" is host off site via the internet ive took it off Domain a this morning and have put the new computer onto Domain B the problem im having is. when the users log into domain B they dont get some of the Group policys set for domain b ive run GPResult /h report.html and read the report and is showing up the group policy client side extension problem. ive attached a JPG of the error within event viewer (Shown Below) can anyone tell me where there could be still reminance of the old Domain A and where i could delete anything from domain a. Im really trying to avoid the need to re image this pc. so if i can fix it this way that would be great im about 90% sure this problem is due to a GPP i set from Domain A which is still affecting the computer in Domain B Hope someone can help! Many thanks

We have a couple of laptops in school that staff take home and use a local (non-admin) login to access the pc when at home. Is there a way to prevent them from saving documents, etc onto the desktop? I want to stop them from saving all their stuff there and instead use their cloud storage or pen drives to save their stuff. I've looked around and the only way to do this is when they are connected to the domain, but as they are using the laptops at home, this way won't work. Does anyone have any ideas?

I'm looking for a way to allow the staff a way to install fonts on to their PCs without giving them admin access. I can find various articles claiming to show you how to do it but thus far no luck. I'm trying to get it working on Windows 7 SP1. Has anyone managed to do this?

Hi I'm wanting some advice! I want to restrict the use of the start menu when students login, they should only have access to various software for their lessons. So have been hunting all over the internet for desktop organizers and seen a few, one i like is called "Fences" by Stardock but its aimed at end users only. i cant see a way of centrally managing this. my question is this how do you lot manage your software for your students? and is there any program that you would recommend that is like Fences but can be managed centrally!? im running windows 7 x64 throughout school

Hi We've just deployed System centre 2012 R2 deployed into our network and its been brill so far but there's just a little thing in the back of mind i'm wondering if anyone can answer for me as I can't seem to find the answer anywhere. (my Google-ninja skills have failed me) Does anyone know if after an application has been deployed to a device collection, whether or not a user needs to be logged in for the software to install, or will it install without any interaction from a user/admin? Thanks in advanced Adam

I have just installed a piece of software in an ICT suite called Silhouette Studio. Works fine when I am logged in as admin but, when logged in as a user, it pops up with: 'Failed to locate Framework DLL'. I have changed the permissions on the Silhouette Studio folders for users but, no joy. Environment: Windows 7, Server 2008, Group Policy restrictions for pupils.

Hi there =] Right, we are in the process of putting in a suite of 30 machines. All of the computers in the school at the moment except 1 ICT suite are dual boot Mac with windows XP Pro 32-Bit. I have been thinking about putting the new ICT suite in with Windows 7 BUT i am not sure whether we put 32-Bit or 64-Bit on them. I am not sure whether the 64-Bit version will have any conflicts with any of the servers which are running Server 2003. I know there may be a few issues with the kids/pupils using Windows 7 but that isn't the issue. If anyone has any views or comments please reply. I am more inclined to go 64-Bit as that appears to be the way things are going. Cheers

Hey Guys, I built 2 custom PCs with the exact same hardware. My issue is deploying an image through MDT to the machines. I created a new deployment share and new task sequence to deploy Windows 7 Pro x64. I also added in the Mobo drivers to inject during install. When I deployed the image on the first PC it worked fine. When I deployed the image on the second identically built PC, it will always have an error on starting windows. iastorA.sys is corrupt or missing I created a 2nd task sequence and downloaded the chipset/lan/video drivers from the manufacturers website so they are the latest version. I created a new selection profile to inject only the new drivers. Upon system reboot into Windows, instead of the first error I got BSOD and an immediate crash. I'm not sure why this image will deploy to the first PC but not the second. I can redeploy the image on the first PC with no problems. I am about to do an OS build from scratch on the second, then do a sysprep capture to have a copy of the custom image and I can try deploying that out to both PCs. Time is of the essence here. I only have another day or so to play with these before they need to be deployed out. Any insight into the MDT deployment issue would be appreciated. Build: - ASUS P9X79 LE Motherboard - 32GB Corsair Vengeance Pro quad channel kit DDR3 1866MHz - Intel Core i7 4820k 3.7GHz - Samsung 840 Pro SSD 256GB (OS Disk) - 2x 4TB Seagate Desktop HDD Sata3 (Raid 1 from BIOS) - eVGA GeForce GTX 780 SuperClocked 3GB DDR5 *Note*: On the second build I had the Samsung as Disk 1 instead of Disk 0, so the OS got installed on the Raid. I've fixed this issue, but the error messages as described above are the same.

Hi i have a problem, all this week and maybe for a few weeks more i have some electrical work going off within my work place, so at night i have to turn my servers off whilst this work is in progress, now the trouble i have is, people are still loggin in, in a morning and not waiting for me to turn the servers back on, obivously this gives them a temporary profile which is annoying as they have to save everything to a stick and restart and re log in etc..... is there a GPO i can set to stop people loggin in on their profiles untill the servers are back up on line? ive never had to do this before so i dont know what im looking for. Im running a windows server 2008 R2 domain environment with windows 7 professional 64bit clients any help is appriciated. thanks!

Hi Im finding something really hard to get my head around regarding ACL on my share folder Basically im setting a mapped drive from a share, now ive got my users in a Global group and got my ACL group setup as Domain Local group, so as you can imagine i place my global users within the domain local group for the share so they can save work to the mapped drive! its all works. but i dont want them to see file permissions when they right click on a file or folder. (petty i know) but im sure it can be done. so far the only permissions set are administrators and system group full control and my ACL domain local group only has Traverse Folder / Execute File List Folder / Read Data Read Attributes Read Extended Attributes Create Files / Write data Create Folders / Append Data Write Attibutes Write Extended Attributes Delete there is no where in the ACL of the drive have i set Read Permissions Change Permissions for the ACL Domain Local group for my users. not even on the root of the drive. so when i goto login as a user they can access the drive. create files and folders this is fine and delete is fine too. but if i right click on the any file or folder i can read permissions if i create a folder or file directly from the share on the server under administrator. i got back to the client computer and log in as a users and it denies me to read permissions. which is what i want it seems that if a users creates a file or folder they can read permissions but if its created by administrator on the server they cant! ive even checked on the effective permissions and the Read Permission Change Permission are ticked but i cant see where it is inheriting this from! am i missing something here? HELP! BTW my share permission is set to change and not full control for the users thanks

Hi Peeps Im having trouble setting up desktop redirection to how i would like it and need your help! but before i start im running a Server 2k8 R2 Domain with Winows 7 Pro x64bit clients So, I have setup a home drive in the user profiles in AD and have set up a GPO with the folders redirected to the home folder. now it does everything ok. saving files accessing files etc... but what its not doing is, saving my prefernces i.e. wallpaper that i specified or the position of my icons. It doesnt happen if i logout and log back in again as the preferences are saved. but if i reboot its all back to basics. everything is lost. my specified wallpaper and location of the icons now i have got delprof2 running as a script to delete profiles from local computer when the computer shuts down. (this is to save space on the hard drive and privacy reasons) Now is it me or should any preferences that i make to my desktop save to appdata --> roaming ????? I couldnt imagine it being the appdata --> local or that wouldnt work as a roaming profile I so im thinking that delprof2 is deleting something to do with my preferences. so what is it that i should be copying over with my folder redirection so that my preferences are saved? any ideas?

I've got a rather annoying issue that I'm working on with a Windows 7 Professional x64 install I did on a standalone computer last year. The machine was working perfectly fine for months, and in fact, is still working fine. But I recently found out that the machine hasn't been running any updates from Windows Update. I tried the usual Windows Update component fixes and running the Windows Update troubleshooting/fix utility built in to Windows 7 troubleshooting and they don't fix the issue. When I checked event viewer, I discovered a stream of Event ID 447 errors in the Application log: Catalog Database (1320) Catalog Database: A bad page link (error -338) has been detected in a B-Tree (ObjectId: 9, PgnoRoot: 39) of database C:\Windows\system32\CatRoot2\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\catdb (6312 => 6134, 10). Looking at the history of the Application log, I discovered that this error has been occurring regularly since around November 2012. I do seem to remember that machine having issues with updating at the time, and I managed to get the updates installed by installing them either 1 or a few at a time, and eventually they all went. But now I can't get a single update to run, not even by searching Microsoft Downloads for the KB number and downloading the update standalone. It fails to install as well. I've ran a full chkdsk /r, I've ran ViVARD hard disk diagnostics from a Ultimate Boot CD, and I've ran MemTest+ overnight on the machine for a full 8 passes of the 8GB of RAM. No errors in anything. Windows continues to perform great and work perfectly fine in everything else. Any ideas of what could be causing this and how to fix it? About the only things I can think of left are a repair install of Windows 7, or a complete reinstall, which I'm trying to avoid as everything else works so well. Thanks in advance!

Hi All, I have this really weird thing happening and I can't quite figure it out. I have had a look around to see if anyone else gets this issue and can't seem to find anything on this site nor on any other forums after doing a standard google search. I have a Belkin F5D8055 N+ Wireless Adapter connected to my machine by it's docking station thing. This is connected into the back of the PC. Weirdly, when I first turn on the PC, the connection doesn't load, and it doesn't automatically connect to the preferred wireless connection. Not until windows has fully loaded, I have the desktop background that I can unplug and re-plug the USB adapter into it's cradle/dock and then it picks up the preferred wireless connection. I have reloaded the different drivers for it, have tried different ports but to no avail. So this is kind of my last hope before I give up and cry haha. If anyone has any suggestions i'll be more than happy to try them and let you know the outcome (hopefully fix it as it's starting to bug me) PC Configuration: Win 7 Prof 64-Bit. Look forward to the floods of replies haha or just a few will do. Cheers all, enough geeking for the night. Clocking out 00:53 - Over and out!
