Hello, We've had a new batch of Lenovo laptops this year with a different network card to previous models. If I try and PXE boot the laptop, using the current WIM file, it errors with an error message saying no driver present. I have tracked down the right driver and I have imported this into MDT (I know it's the right one as I can PXE Boot fine if I specify the drivers on an attached USB stick), and I have Updated the deployment share, with and without rebuilding boot images. The problem I’m having is that even after updating the share, the existing WIM still complains about the driver (I’m assuming this is expected behaviour.) But when I try and PXE off of the new LiteTouch WIM file, which I have imported into WDS, Windows starts to load and then instantly crashes (BSOD) with an IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error message. Has anybody come across this before? I’m still fairly new to MDT as this is the first year we've made changes to it since it was installed last summer as part of BSF. Any help would be appreciated. Hi Im having a problem with deploying windows 7 via a task sequence. the problem im having is.... the task sequence runs all the way through to the end but im finding that the time is out by a few hours! ive looked through my task sequences. the rules tab and boot.ini file for anything specified for time zone nothing there. ive made sure all language is set for en-GB in the unattend.xml file for the image in the task sequence! also made sure that the GMT Standard Time is set in the xml file. i find that its changed my bios clock. and windows is going by the bios clock. when i change the bios clock back the time is set correctly in windows! what in a normal task sequence could be changing my bios clock? help!!!!!

So I have made a little mistake and accidentally deleted the whole testing folder from my build share in Deployment workbench. All the wim images are still in the build$ share in the operating Systems folder. Do I have to delete all the wim files, re create the testing folder and re add the wim images back in? Thanks

Morning all, I have MDT2013 update 1 and am deploying Windows 10. I am able to deploy my custim wim file to a new machine but the litetouch application which runs after the deployment does not run automatically? So Office or updates etc do not get installed automatically. In the C drive there is a litetouch shortcut, when you press this litetouch does start, instals updates and restarts. Run it again and Office installs and restarts. Then I have to run it manually a third time and it installs and the process is complete. Is there something I am missing? My original build worked fine. Hi Fellow Tech's I need to deploy Smart Notebook 2012 via MDT but i don't know what the silent command is? - I have a valid product key which i would like to auto activate too. Would someone mind pointing me in the right direction please or if so, provide me the silent command. TIA!

We're trying to deploy our Windows 10 image use PXE boot, however within the last week or so we've begun getting error messages. We think it's traceable back to a power cut we had a couple of weeks ago over the weekend. Our Deployment server is 2012 R2 and we use the deployment workbench to set up the image. We get through the initial stages ok and begin the image deployment on the PC, but during the install we get an error, see attached picture. This process was set up by a recently left network manager and we're at a bit of a loss how to troubleshoot. We've tried finding the logs but have had little success, as we're not 100% where to look. So any advice, experience, ideas will gratefully received and if anyone's had the same issue in the past and can give a step by step guide how to fix, that's an added bonus, and we'll send lots of virtual chocolate as a thank you.

Hi all, I'm the IT Manager at Twynham School - Do you know if 'it's the thing' to start getting devices onto Windows 11? When Windows 10 came out, we really jumped on that but we've held fire on this one. All our PCs in the IT office are on Win11 but I'm just reluctant to move staff and students over... I assume you can do things like Sysprep in Win11 but what about the start menu import changes as I know they're now based on JSON? I did attempt making an image when Win11 very first came out but it didn't go very well haha! Many thanks!

The basic Question is Does MDT support windows 11, i ask because when looks at the Microsoft documentation windows 11 is not listed.... is it not officially supported? Or did they forget to update the docs? https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/configmgr/mdt/release-notes#supported-platforms The reason i ask, is as we move away from SCCM to Intune, we would like a quick way to PXE and image a machine and install the Intune enrollment package (For machine that don't have an OS or need a clean install), and was wanting to use MDT. Does Microsoft plan to continue to support MDT?

I am trying to deploy Windows 11 you MDT and I am having an issue with the install. Only the image gets installed and none of the filled in information like computer name or domain info nor will it install the additional applications that I choose. Once the newly imaged machine is booted up it has all the imaged machine info in it. I have clearly done something wrong

Hello, So, I've posted about this before however I'm still having problems with it. Basically, I have MDT set up through WDS for imaging machines. Practically every machine in the network will image with no issues aside from these 'ERGO AS1' machines This is what appears on screen; Intel UNDI, PXE-2.1 (build 082) Copyright (C) 1997-200 Intel Corporation For Realtek RTL8111B/8111C Gigabit Ethernet Controller v2.10 (071105( CLIENT MAC ADDR: 00 90 F5 8C 21 E6 GUID: FFFFFFFF-0C0C-0000-0000-000000000000 PXE-E51: No DHCP or proxyDHCP offers were received. PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM. Why is this? Is there an easy fix? I have to image an entire suite like this and they all have the same issue, if I can't get it to work, I'll have to use the Windows 7 disc! Please help!

Hi, Just deployed a load of laptops running Windows 7 Pro... Only to notice that it was set to use a MAK key and not KMS. Is there a script or something that I can use on startup/login that will change it to KMS and activate? Thanks!

Hi, I have a windows 7 image on my system deployed via litetouch and MDT, it works fine on some pc's but on others it installs but then after the 1st proper reboot it comes up as trying to login and its relevant failure. The account it is trying to use is domain\administrator which doesnt exist and has not been set during the install process, Can anyone spread some light on where this may be coming from so i can set things to get the install working correctly. We have started to deploy Windows 7 using Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) and Deployment Services (we have always used Ghost in the past). Unfortunately we have found (after deploying 60 machines!) that the Internet does not work on a MDT deployed workstation on Internet Explorer 8 or 9 (DVD installed and Ghosted workstations work fine?!). We are however able to connect to the Internet using Firefox and Chrome, download Windows updates and device drives from the Internet, ping the county councils proxy and connect to the Netsweeper admin console from the affected machines using IE. Internet proxy settings are set by Group Policy and work fine for XP and Windows 7 workstations that we have installed from DVD or imaged using Ghost. We have tried deploying a workstation to a workgroup rather the domain (thus no GPOs applied) and after manually entering the proxy information IE still doesn’t work (but Firefox etc. do..) Microsoft are now involved and although we still have no resolution we have discovered using Microsoft Network Monitor 3.4 that it appears to be an issue related to NTLM authentication as when the proxy asks the second time for NTLM authentication the workstation fails to send another request and simply displays the ‘Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage’ page. It appears that IE only sends the domain and workstation name to the proxy and then fails to respond when requested for the username. On a working workstation IE will send an additional request with domain, workstation name and username and from there the proxy will authenticate and send the page requested. The question is, has anyone else experienced this issue, either related to MDT or separately? If the answer is yes have you managed to resolve it and what was the resolution? Any help with this is much appreciated as our Windows 7 deployment is now very much at risk. Many thanks Nath

Hey guys, I have been trying to create a silent install of SolidWorks for MDT. However, whenever I go to carry out the silent install, the Solidworks program looks to have been installed, and then all of a sudden the installer starts going backwards and uninstalls the program completely. Within my silent install i was also installing eDrawings which worked perfectly, so I don't really understand why it's not working? I checked the log i also created and it says nothing about why it starts to remove the files, it just starts doing it Do any of you have any ideas about how i could sort this Thanks!! Any guidance would be appreciated

Hi, I am just starting planning a new Windows 11 image and start deployment from windows 10. Please can you give me recommendations for the following please? Currently using WDS version 10.0.17763.1 and MDT Windows 11 version education version ect? Microsoft Office version 2024? And any other settings you would recommend? removing apps etc. Thanks in advance

Does anyone have a guide or steps on setting up recovering from the domain? I've tried various different methods with no success. I've managed to get it to join the domain but not keep it's name. I'm also still getting the name prompt as well which is confusing

Hi, We are looking into moving out imaging operations over to MECM from MDT, as Microsoft seem to be trying to phase out MDT from Win 11 onwards (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/configmgr/mdt/release-notes#supported-platforms) but we are struggling to get our heads round the best hierarchy to go for. We have 14 separate Academies across a fairly small geographical location of one UK city. Thing is we don't want to image over the internet and so only having one primary site, with 13 secondary sites is off the table as if the primary site was to go offline, we could then not image at any academy at all. We tested this last year and tried to manage with one main primary server, but if the primary was turned off secondary sites could not facilitate imaging at all. We then thought we could do a structure where we have 4 primary sites with the other 10 academies shared out as secondary sites, but in this situation do we need a CAS? CAS seems to add some resilience, I think? So if a primary went down we could point PCs at another primary site and they would be able to pick up the same image from there (over the internet) as the CAS would keep software and apps synced across all sites? Also we can build task sequences once and sync them to all sites to make things easy with CAS. Does this sound correct? MECM is all very confusing for someone who has only ever used MDT and just wants a platform to use for PC imaging and nothing else at this stage. Microsoft's documentation on MECM all talks around huge organisations with offices in global locations, and 100s of thousands of users when talking about a CAS set up, so it sounds like we don't need that, but I think we might be best doing it? Can anyone in a similar situation expand on their MECM set up with multisite and offer any advice to which way we should go?

I'm hoping someone can help me here. I am attempting to complete an offline deployment of our Windows 10 build to a tablet device. I have created all of the offline media by copying the entire deployment share to make sure nothing has been missed. I have mounted the .iso to an external drive using rufus to make it bootable. I am getting the following error after the installation of OS: Litetouch deployment failed, Return Code = -2147467259 0×80004005 CreateProcess failed. Code(0x80070002) Command line execution failed (80070002) Failed to run the action: Set-ExecutionPolicy Bypass. The system cannot find the file specified. (Error. 80070002; Source: Windows) The execution of the group (Postinstall) has failed and the execution has been aborted. An action failed Operation aborted (Error: 80004004; Source: Windows) Failed to run the last action: Set-ExecutionPolicy Bypass. Execution of task sequence failed. The system cannot find the file specified. (Error. 00000002; Source: Windows) Task Sequence Engine failed! Code 0x80004005 The step that is to be completed is as follows: Type: Run Command Line Command Line: powershell.exe -command "Set-ExecutionPolicy Bypass" This says to me that the deployment cannot find powershell.exe but this doesn't really make an awful lot of sense to me. It's not like it cannot find a script or a file because as you can see from the command it is not looking for a file but is supposed to be running a command via the PowerShell program. Any assistance would be greatly recieved.

I've got a curly one for you that I've not been able to find a solution for with the usual googling. I'm running a build\capture task sequence which has been running just fine using Win 10 1606 LTSB as the source. I decided to give 1809 a try and updated my MDT infrastructure to the 1809 ADK\Win PE Add-on and MDT 8450. The MDT process now fails at this point “Failed to run the last action: Install Operating System. Execution of task sequence failed.” I’ll post the complete error below. The boot process is fine and I get about 20% into the install OS routine before it errors out. The weird thing is if I replace the Win 10 1809 OS source files with Win 10 1803 OS source files the build completes successfully. Any of you peeps out there come across this before is nobody yet using 1809 as there are way too many issues with it? At this stage it's looking likely that we will go ahead with the 1803 deployment. ==================== FAILURE (5627): -2146498514 0x800F082E: Run DISM.exe LiteTouch deployment failed, Return Code = -2147467259 0x80004005 Failed to run the action: Install Operating System. So, I've set up WDS/MDT and everything is perfect, all machines image without a problem APART from these new Lenovo's we have purchased... I'm getting this error when booting them into PXE; (Missing MTFTP Server IP Address) Anyone any ideas why this is???

HI, I’m having a bit of a problem with my customsettings.ini file in MDT and wondered if anyone has had the same issue and/or a solution. My settings file is working fine with task sequences for deploying images and USMT, however I have the lines: SkipCapture=YES DoCapture=NO As the general techs using the MDT won’t be creating images or using it to back up. However, if I want to at some point use the MDT to capture an image I have to enable the line to: SkipCapture=NO DoCapture=YES The problem is that this seems to be messing with any deployments that may be going on at the same time as me changing the customsettings.ini file, and having the lines always set to do a capture messes with the deployment. Is there a way of being able to change the customsettings.ini file whilst others are using the MDT or better settings for the file to have the capture always enabled? Shame there isn’t a customsettings.ini file for each task sequence. Thanks for reading. Hope someone can give me some pointers Rob

Hi, I have created an XP image with a single partition on a virtual machine. I then capture that image and deploy it to Dell systems using MDT. I have configured the "Format and Partition Disk" section in my task sequence as follows: Disk number: 0 Disk type: Standard (MBR) System (Primary) 50% of remaining space on disk. NTFS file system. Data (Extended) 100% of remaining space on disk. The Dell systems have 250GB hard drives. The task sequence is creating the primary partition with 100% disk space instead of 50%. Then when I open Disk Management on the deployed machine it shows an additional 100GB (approx) partition with no drive letter assigned and tells me that the drive is 350GB. If I delete this partition it then realises that the drive is only 250GB... Thanks in advance, Dan
