Hey, I have deployed it via Media and PXE yes. The collection pulls the PCs from the built in All Desktop and server clients based on name as we have a standard naming convention so if it starts with "XYZ" move to the "XYZ" collection. I have not asked the task sequence to pull the existing name in, I read it would do this automatically once it realises it already exists as part of the image process? Thanks Rich

Yeah double checked all that, its just odd that it says in the log no task sequence is available, but there clearly is one pushed out. I have been trying to research this online for weeks and work out what I am doing wrong, guides online just seem to say deploy it to a custom collection and it should work.

Hey! This one has been driving me crazy for weeks! So I have OSD set up on MECM to deploy to the built in unknown PCs Collection and it works a treat, I can PXE boot an image PCs to my hearts content, but once imaged I can't get them to re-image without deleting them from the MECM database (to make them unknown again). I have set up a custom collection and deployed a task sequence to that collection. When I PXE boot again it loads the boot image wim, then reaches MECM deployment screen and just reboots before the box to continue and select a task sequence appears. I can see in the smsts.log file it says "No Task Sequence Available", but according to my console there is a task sequence deployed to the collection! I don't want to have to delete machines from the MECM database every time we want to re-image and we don't want to use software centre, we just want to PXE boot a machine and it be able to image once already imaged on MECM. Can anyone advise on this? Thanks

Thanks for the replies! I see so maybe we should look at keeping things simple and go for a central primary and Dist Points, rather than multi primaries and a CAS. We did worry about redundancy, as if our primary site went offline for whatever reason our remaining 14 schools could then not image as they need to contact the primary to be able to image as we found out in previous testing with secondary sites and primary sites. Do you worry about redundancy in the same way? Thanks

Hello! Thanks for checking out the post. Following Microsoft announcing that they do not support MDT for Win 11 and recommend using MECM for any deployments moving forward, I am struggling to get my head around how to set it up to deploy Win 11 to our PCs via PXE. Essentially we want to set up a like for like MDT replacement within MECM, but it seems easier said than done! We are a Multi Academy trust of 15 schools, and don't want to have to pull OS images and software all over the internet, but then don't want to manually copy and paste software and images everywhere if MECM will help distribute them across our schools. We also just need it to image over the network at the moment, don't want to deploy software via software centre or anything like that, just want to hit F12, boot to PXE and get list of task sequences to image PCs Does anyone have a similar set up in terms of a multi academy trust who is running MECM/SCCM who can give me an insight into how they have laid out the structure of MECM, in particular for for image deployment over PXE? Any help is much appreciated! Thanks

We did explore this but struggled to image with just PXE DP, but I assume from your suggestion it is possible to do this. I will do some reading about it, thanks for your response. -
Hi, We are looking into moving out imaging operations over to MECM from MDT, as Microsoft seem to be trying to phase out MDT from Win 11 onwards (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/configmgr/mdt/release-notes#supported-platforms) but we are struggling to get our heads round the best hierarchy to go for. We have 14 separate Academies across a fairly small geographical location of one UK city. Thing is we don't want to image over the internet and so only having one primary site, with 13 secondary sites is off the table as if the primary site was to go offline, we could then not image at any academy at all. We tested this last year and tried to manage with one main primary server, but if the primary was turned off secondary sites could not facilitate imaging at all. We then thought we could do a structure where we have 4 primary sites with the other 10 academies shared out as secondary sites, but in this situation do we need a CAS? CAS seems to add some resilience, I think? So if a primary went down we could point PCs at another primary site and they would be able to pick up the same image from there (over the internet) as the CAS would keep software and apps synced across all sites? Also we can build task sequences once and sync them to all sites to make things easy with CAS. Does this sound correct? MECM is all very confusing for someone who has only ever used MDT and just wants a platform to use for PC imaging and nothing else at this stage. Microsoft's documentation on MECM all talks around huge organisations with offices in global locations, and 100s of thousands of users when talking about a CAS set up, so it sounds like we don't need that, but I think we might be best doing it? Can anyone in a similar situation expand on their MECM set up with multisite and offer any advice to which way we should go?

Redstor - Backup Error "Cloud Files Are Not Supported"

Hi Steve, I thought the same after some quick research but looking on Azure, file sync isn't configured for any servers on our network, and I can't see any evidence of it being installed on the server so it can't be that. I did wonder if it was something to do with a One Drive sync, but again we don't have this set up. Thanks for the suggestion though -
Hello! So I have a batch if files on a file storage server that are failing to backup every night with our Redstor cloud backup solution with the error "Cloud files are not supported". Firstly they are not cloud files, and are a collection of .doc .csv .notebook .zip and anything else really I haven't noticed one file type over another. Redstor support have said if the Attribute under file properties -> details has an "M" or "O" listed then Redstor will see it as a cloud file and not back it up. They suggested I copied the files to a new folder and it should back up, which it did, but then the next night more files were marked with the same error. So I need to find out why certain files are gaining the "M" attribute (not seen any "O") and from where to try and stop files from gaining this and then not being included in backups. "I have found out that "M" means: (M) Recall on Data Access. When this attribute is set, it means that the file or directory is not fully present locally. For a file that means that not all of its data is on local storage (e.g. it may be sparse with some data still in remote storage). For a directory it means that some of the directory contents are being virtualized from another location. Reading the file / enumerating the directory will be more expensive than normal, e.g. it will cause at least some of the file/directory content to be fetched from a remote store. Only kernel-mode callers can set this bit. but I have no idea why some files are gaining this "M" and other are not. Has any one seen anything like this before or know why some of our files are getting the "M" attribute applied? Thanks Richard

Ah ok, we could look at AB tutor via ConfigMgr and see if that helps I suppose rather than GPO and see if that helps. Yeah CC Package was built from the admin console and we have the MSI in GPO and we have the latest AB Tutor v 11 No log files are left over no :/ It just leaves the root folder in programme files with nothing in.

CC installs if we take AB tutor out of the OU, so I assume it will work (I will test it), but the problem we have is AB tutor is sat above CC in Group Policy, as AB tutor is installed to all machines and CC only to those in IT Suites. We could I suppose create a new OU with blocked inheritance. but would rather not mess up the structure we have.

Yeah I much prefer MDT too MECM is a nightmare way to complicated and messy, but seems to be the way Microsoft are going at the moment! There seems to be lots of chat online about MDT working, so might be worth testing some WIN 11 deployments.

I know where I am we were not able to push out WIN 11 via MDT late last year, so have started to go down the MECM route moving forward, but seems to be conflicting information out there it seems.
