We set up SCCM some years ago and never really used the reporting side of things as all we needed it for was to push out a few pieces of software and to deploy our 'Golden Images' and it's worked really well for that. Never needed to run a report before, until now! And when I do so I get an error saying that the "Report processing has been canceled by the user. (rsProcessingAborted)" It takes a while for this error to come up so when you run a report it gives the false impression it's doing something! When I check in the (SQL) Reporting Services Configuration Manager a service account is configured and when I look in SQL Server Management Studio the account has all the right permissions (in fact whilst I'm investigating this issue, all permissions were ticked/checked to see if that solved the problem) but I'm still getting this error. I'm trying to get a list of all the software installed on our staff laptops so need to get the reporting side of SCCM/MECM up and running so any help is appreciated!

Hi All, Just wondering how the majority go about setting up a staff laptop? We're looking at giving our staff laptops and replacing the computers in classrooms. Up until now only a few staff have staff laptops, so we've done a solution that works but wondering what people think is best now for moving to mass laptop use. The laptops will be imaged through SCCM/MECM with drivers/software installed through the task sequence. In terms of then users using the device both in school and at home, I'm aware of the 2 options below, but wondered what people think of these and if you guys do anything different: Option 1: Following the domain build, have the staff member log on to their device. Log off of the device. IT log on as admin and load up System Properties > Advanced > User Profiles, select the staff member and convert their profile to local. With the above being done, the staff member can then log on both in school and at home. Option 2 (less ideal, best for home use only really): Following the domain build to install the relevant software, remove the device from the domain. Create a local user account on the device for the staff member to use. I'm looking to enable MECM/InTune Co-Management so that we can use this to manage laptops externally too. What process to people use if none of the above for configuring staff laptops on mass? Also - for the few staff who have laptops already, we have enabled Offline Files and sync their user area to the device, but Microsoft's offline files seems archaic and sometimes just doesn't sync. Not because the files are in conflict (edited both in school and at home) but the file shows 0bytes in the folder for example. Are there any credible alternatives to offline files to help sync staff's user areas to the devices? (They will be bitlocker drive encrypted so security shouldn't be an issue). Thanks in advance.

Good Morning, Running version 2111 Site Version 5.0.9068.1000 The backups have been working fine and the error started about week after updating the 2111. If i try to manually kick of the backup it still fails however if i reboot the site server, and run it manually again, it will . and the autobackup will work a few times but then fail again with the same issue. And Yes permission are correct because it does succeed, after i reboot the server. I have read that it failing on cd.latest could be cause of the autorun.inf but that has been added to the AV exclusions. The errors flow like the below. Error: Failed to backup \\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy2\CM_FSC\install.map up to \\data.DOMAIN.org\shared\SCCM_DB_BACKUPS\CM_FSC_BACKUP\FSCBackup\SiteServer\SMSServer: ERROR: CopyFile to \\data.DOMAIN.org\shared\SCCM_DB_BACKUPS\CM_FSC_BACKUP\FSCBackup\SiteServer\SMSServer failed: [error code: 5, error message: Access is denied.]. So probably looking over something really small, but I can't find it. Right now, I'm in the testing stages of deploying Windows 11 via a MECM task sequence. After about a week of tweaks and VM reverts, I finally got a successful upgrade without Teams and the other junk that gets installed. Before the upgrade, printers worked just fine...even with all the print nightmare updates. Instead of GPOs, re deploy printers from our print server using WMI. The reason we don't do a direct add is because we use pCounter. $printclass = [wmiclass]"win32_printer" $printclass.AddPrinterConnection("\\server.fqdn.edu\Sample Printer") And this worked with no issue. Then after I upgrade to Windows 11, this breaks. Gives me different error codes for different printers (3221225480 & 1722). I checked to see if the printers were configured any differently, but they're aren't. Again, these are in production with Windows 10 just fine. We also pre-install the Universal HP Drivers, so that's not a problem as well. I'm not sure if Windows 11 supports type 3 drivers or not, but that would be a bit weird if it didn't. Even then, pCounter is unable to support Type 3 drivers...according to my reading. I just can't figure out the issue here.

So, I am revamping our deployment processing by using WIMs and PSADT. Sure it's a lot now, but should help easily update software down the line. That said, I typically would use MECM's ability to supersede an app. For example Solidworks 2022 would have an uninstaller, and then when I create the 2023 app, it would reference the 2022 app. But this meant I had to keep 2022 going for a while, which just seems unnecessary now. Now I am in the process of uninstalling all previous versions of an app within the pre-installation section of PSADT. For Solidworks, there is no all in one process of doing this. However, when building Solidworks with the admin image editor, there is an option to upgrade and/or uninstall a previous version, which means less work on my end. So, that's what I selected. So I ended up using that method so I can just call startswinstall and be done with it. When I do it manually and through the Software Center (when logged in), it works just fine. However, if a user never logged in and the app is required, it gets hung for some reason. Looking at the SummaryIMLog, it sets a registry key (which is just no feedback), and that's the last entry. Comparing that to a work install where it doesn't hang, it has the same line, but then a second later, the installer ends. So, with ath being said, I was wondering was anyone else running into a similar issue? I could just monitor that registry key, and then kill the installer process, but it just seems crazy to me how this is happening.

Hi All We're trying to deploy the xTools Creative space for our engineering course, does anyone know a way of pushing this out silently there doesn't seem to be any answers on the website or using the /switch /s -s options Thanks

Hey! This one has been driving me crazy for weeks! So I have OSD set up on MECM to deploy to the built in unknown PCs Collection and it works a treat, I can PXE boot an image PCs to my hearts content, but once imaged I can't get them to re-image without deleting them from the MECM database (to make them unknown again). I have set up a custom collection and deployed a task sequence to that collection. When I PXE boot again it loads the boot image wim, then reaches MECM deployment screen and just reboots before the box to continue and select a task sequence appears. I can see in the smsts.log file it says "No Task Sequence Available", but according to my console there is a task sequence deployed to the collection! I don't want to have to delete machines from the MECM database every time we want to re-image and we don't want to use software centre, we just want to PXE boot a machine and it be able to image once already imaged on MECM. Can anyone advise on this? Thanks

Hi, We are looking into moving out imaging operations over to MECM from MDT, as Microsoft seem to be trying to phase out MDT from Win 11 onwards (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/configmgr/mdt/release-notes#supported-platforms) but we are struggling to get our heads round the best hierarchy to go for. We have 14 separate Academies across a fairly small geographical location of one UK city. Thing is we don't want to image over the internet and so only having one primary site, with 13 secondary sites is off the table as if the primary site was to go offline, we could then not image at any academy at all. We tested this last year and tried to manage with one main primary server, but if the primary was turned off secondary sites could not facilitate imaging at all. We then thought we could do a structure where we have 4 primary sites with the other 10 academies shared out as secondary sites, but in this situation do we need a CAS? CAS seems to add some resilience, I think? So if a primary went down we could point PCs at another primary site and they would be able to pick up the same image from there (over the internet) as the CAS would keep software and apps synced across all sites? Also we can build task sequences once and sync them to all sites to make things easy with CAS. Does this sound correct? MECM is all very confusing for someone who has only ever used MDT and just wants a platform to use for PC imaging and nothing else at this stage. Microsoft's documentation on MECM all talks around huge organisations with offices in global locations, and 100s of thousands of users when talking about a CAS set up, so it sounds like we don't need that, but I think we might be best doing it? Can anyone in a similar situation expand on their MECM set up with multisite and offer any advice to which way we should go?

Morning all, Hopefully a simple question, but can you image at a secondary site with MECM if the master is offline? In my mind you should be able to but with initial testing we can't seem to be able to do it. Can anyone confirm that this is possible and are there some settings somewhere to configure what happens with your secondary site? Cheers, Jonny

Hey all, So just like the title suggests, I would like to get rid of Teams as we are a G Suite school. Therefore, no need to have it automatically added. If a user needs to use it, they can either install the user-level app, or just use the browser (which is what we do on Windows 10). I'm ripping it out via a PowerShell script during OSD via MECM. But then I noticed that once OSD is completed, Teams gets installed upon the first login. So then I created a logon task to remove Teams using the SYSTEM account. And this works as intended. Then about 4 or 5 days later, Teams is reinstalled. And it's installed as a provisioned app. This tells me Microsoft is adding it back somehow. Just like I stated above, I don't want to completely Teams because there are a few legitimate cases, but for the most part it is not needed, and I'm trying to avoid confusing my users. Here is my code to remove it during logon. I know it's redundant, but it's a catch all, just in case. $TeamsProPkg = Get-AppxProvisionedPackage -Online | Where-Object { $_.DisplayName -like '*Teams*' } | Select-Object -ExpandProperty PackageName -First 1 Remove-AppxProvisionedPackage -PackageName $TeamsProPkg -Online -AllUsers -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue $TeamsPkg = Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers | Where-Object PackageFullName -Match 'Teams' | Select-Object -ExpandProperty PackageFullName -First 1 Remove-AppxPackage -Package $TeamsPkg -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue -AllUsers | Out-Null Is there a registry key or something that tells Windows to install it? Checked the GPOs, but don't see anything but the chat icon. I haven't tried using dism.exe, but I'm sure the above cmdlets are the same as using dism.exe. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello! Thanks for checking out the post. Following Microsoft announcing that they do not support MDT for Win 11 and recommend using MECM for any deployments moving forward, I am struggling to get my head around how to set it up to deploy Win 11 to our PCs via PXE. Essentially we want to set up a like for like MDT replacement within MECM, but it seems easier said than done! We are a Multi Academy trust of 15 schools, and don't want to have to pull OS images and software all over the internet, but then don't want to manually copy and paste software and images everywhere if MECM will help distribute them across our schools. We also just need it to image over the network at the moment, don't want to deploy software via software centre or anything like that, just want to hit F12, boot to PXE and get list of task sequences to image PCs Does anyone have a similar set up in terms of a multi academy trust who is running MECM/SCCM who can give me an insight into how they have laid out the structure of MECM, in particular for for image deployment over PXE? Any help is much appreciated! Thanks
