Were having issues with our current ID card printers and I was wondering what brands/models people currently use to print student & staff ID cards? Needs to have a network port as we don't allow USB printers. We currently use Fargo DTC4500e.

Hi, Does anyone have any experience of using Office Friends Systems from Grimsby to supply print devices? Someone has suggested that they might be a good company to supply MFDs etc and I wondered whether anyone has used them before. Thanks.

Hi our kyocera printers are printing double but on one sided, rendering the printouts useless. see image below... Here is our setup. Printers are on a print server windows 2016 Users print to a virtual printer (follow me printing via PaperCut) Printer models: Kyocera TASKalfa 8052ci & TASKalfa 8052ci Driver: KX Driver v7.4.0830 (PCL 5c) All printers use the same Driver PCL 5c (NOTE this was swapped as it also happened on PCL 6) Users are Windows 10 Ent This only effects if the user select double sided which is standard practise here. for example a 4 page document will print on 1 page double sided with double layered (printer over each over) Any ideas? Many Thanks Lewis

How are we deploying printers these days? ok, I've been lucky that I'd created a deploy image that is so old it predates the printer deployment "fix" so as long as printers are added before the Os updates it's all good. BUT I can't do this forever and some devices have a need for new printers.. Sharp Printers and mode4 drivers are the universal ones that I've never got to work properly. So if I want to deploy a mode 3 printer driver and auto add a printer for pupils how do we do this?

So probably looking over something really small, but I can't find it. Right now, I'm in the testing stages of deploying Windows 11 via a MECM task sequence. After about a week of tweaks and VM reverts, I finally got a successful upgrade without Teams and the other junk that gets installed. Before the upgrade, printers worked just fine...even with all the print nightmare updates. Instead of GPOs, re deploy printers from our print server using WMI. The reason we don't do a direct add is because we use pCounter. $printclass = [wmiclass]"win32_printer" $printclass.AddPrinterConnection("\\server.fqdn.edu\Sample Printer") And this worked with no issue. Then after I upgrade to Windows 11, this breaks. Gives me different error codes for different printers (3221225480 & 1722). I checked to see if the printers were configured any differently, but they're aren't. Again, these are in production with Windows 10 just fine. We also pre-install the Universal HP Drivers, so that's not a problem as well. I'm not sure if Windows 11 supports type 3 drivers or not, but that would be a bit weird if it didn't. Even then, pCounter is unable to support Type 3 drivers...according to my reading. I just can't figure out the issue here.

Hi Guys and Girls, I'm looking to get a new printer at work and I have been told it needs 2 trays, quick as possible and holds a lot of paper So I've done some research and have seen these 2 printers:- Lexmark MS810dn - Comes with 10k pages worth of toner and has 2 trays Price of unit: £470 6,000 page toner: £94 25,000 page toner: £245 Print speed: 52 pages per minute OKI B431dn - Comes with 3 year warrenty but only has 1 tray (so we'd need 2) Price of unit: £193 12,000 page toner: £108 Print speed: 38 pages per minute Has anyone had any experience with these printers? or can suggest better printers for the job? Thanks,

We need to get three quotes for a managed print service. We've had a couple but I'm keen to see we get best value and that includes good service which you can only mneasure from others recommendations. Does anyone out there have their printers and copiers managed under the same contract? Do you get good service? Who do you use? Thanks ChrisJ

Hi Does anyone have a VB Script to delete network printers at logoff without having to name each printer? I've got some staff profiles with some dud printers dating back a while. thanks J.

We have deployed printers from 2 print servers (2008+SP2) using group policy preferences which has worked really well, after installing a trial of print management software it was noticed that the PC's that have deployed printers seem to be printing directly to the printers rather than through the print servers. How can we use GPP to point the printers through the shared printers queues on the servers to allow us to log print jobs? GPP works really well but will we need to go back to using scripts to route through the print servers?

Playing with Win7 RC1 and testing it as a build for a class room... in readyness incase we can go live in the summer or Oct hols... i'm having problems deploying printers to standard users. as the drivers won't install unless an administrator has allready installed them I've done a few things but still it wont work the "student user" can't add a printer nor will the vb scripts that normally do it on login. unless its previously been added by an admin user I've Tried this System/Device Installation/Device Installation Restrictions Policy Setting Comment Allow installation of devices using drivers that match these device set-up classes Enabled and added the following.. {36FC9E60-C465-11CF-8056-444553540000} {4d36e978-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} {4D36E979-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} {D20EA372-DD35-4950-9ED8-A6335AFE79F0} {D20EA372-DD35-4950-9ED8-A6335AFE79F1} {D20EA372-DD35-4950-9ED8-A6335AFE79F2} {D20EA372-DD35-4950-9ED8-A6335AFE79F4} {D20EA372-DD35-4950-9ED8-A6335AFE79F5} the drivers when installing seem to show different classes to the ones above i was wondering if i need to find each individual class for each printer driver i have! I have also done a loopback merge and tried using User config the Preferences Control Panel Settings, Printers then added the shared printers from there. but this has the same effect unless the driver is installed the printer doesn't appear. anyone looked at this before?

I've been having a specific problem on Windows 7 clients on our Server 2003 evironment. We have been testing Windows 7, and building a profile to work with it (all of our clients are on XP...but new systems will come with Windows 7). The profiles are all working, except when it comes to printers. We have a vbs script which runs on logon, checks where the user is logged on, and assigns (and defaults) the correct printer for that room. It also deletes printers on log off. On Windows XP, this work flawlessly. However, coming to Windows 7 we encounter massive delays on logon times, caused by this: "Do you trust this printer? Windows needs to download and install a software driver from the \\%servername% computer to print from %printername%. Proceed only if you trust the \\%servername% computer and the network." The vbs scripts run sliently in the background, so the user cannot see this message to click Install driver, so it waits for it to time out and default to Cancel, and then it doesn't install the printer. I have been researching this for a couple of days now, and I can't figure it out. I have tried using group policy for "Point and Print", allowing it in the forest and/or specified trusted servers, but that didn't work. Also tried using another Windows 7 machine to use GPO Management to disable warning messages, and that didn't work either. The messages still appear. Any ideas?

Hello, this is my first post so Im sorry in advance if it's in the wrong area. Im Having trouble with a Konica Minolta 4600 printer, an error keeps appearing saying "comm error, callFFFF". Can't figure out why it's appearing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Morning All, I'm in the process of setting up printers on Group Policy, this is my first time doing it in an environment using Roaming Profiles. The problem is, when a user logs on to a machine with a printer targetted to the machines' OU, that printer installs, but when the user logs off and logs on to another machine in a different OU they get the printer targetted to that OU too, so eventually the user will have every printer available installed, instead of just the ones relevant to the room they are in. I have tried adding 'Delete All' to the policy (see attached screenshot) and putting it at number 1 in the order but it still doesn't work reliably.. Any advise would be great please! Cheers Scott

Hi I have been asked to look into our printer situation at our school. We currently just buy the printer, and then purchase compatible toners for them. We do run Papercut and I today ran a report. We have 14 different staff printers manly based in individual offices and 15 student printers in teaching rooms. Our monthly output is roughly 26,000 pages. I want to first concentrate on Staff Printers. Staff print 16,000 pages every month on their 14 printers. I'd love to get this down to 4 Staff MFD printers with Follow Me/Find Me printing. Has anyone got any experience with this? I believe papercut has a feature? What printers does it work with? How to staff authenticate? Regarding the printers - can anyone recommend any? Also thinking about leasing? Any help would be very useful. I'll then move onto the student printers!!!!

After a short argument with Vista about mapping printers on a certain station and some research I found a solution to allow you to map printers via VBS logon scripts without UAC getting in the way. It turns out that there is a group policy setting for Vista SP1 that suppresses the warnings and just allows the printer to map silently as it should. You will need 2008 server or RSAT installed on a Vista SP1 client to set it up. User Configuration -> Policies -> Administrative Templates -> Control Panel -> Printers : Point and Print Restrictions Setting: Enabled In its Config Tab: Do not specify any servers to restrict Point and Print to so it will continue to work for any server without specifying every one Security Prompts: When Installing drivers for a new connection: -Do not show warning or elevation prompt -Show warning and elevation prompt When updating drivers for an existing connection: -Do not show warning or elevation prompt -Show warning and elevation prompt -Show warning only EDIT: Since Windows 7 and Vista service pack 2 a new policy has been implemented as below which also needs to be set to work with these newer clients. You need to be using Windows 7 RSAT or have updated the ADMX files in your domain central store to see these options. Computer Configuration -> Policies -> Administrative Templates -> Printers : Point and Print Restrictions Setting: Enabled In its Config Tab: Do not specify any servers to restrict Point and Print to so it will continue to work for any server without specifying every one Security Prompts: When Installing drivers for a new connection: -Do not show warning or elevation prompt -Show warning and elevation prompt When updating drivers for an existing connection: -Do not show warning or elevation prompt -Show warning and elevation prompt -Show warning only Problems solved, simple solution too. As it happens someone else had actually posted this solution here earlier but I had not noticed it and only found it when looking for any duplicate posts of the same information. The first mention of this method on this site is here.

As you may know (if you've been following my posts) that over the summer we switched to a 2k8 Domain/DCs. In a continuation of that migration we are in the process of building a w2k8 print server on our VMware box. Prior to this we used Ric's Printer Scripts to install and deploy printers on a per user basis. However we are interested in using the new GPO functionality to deploy printers on a per user/machine basis. I am already aware of the fact that this method of printer deployment isn't suitable for thin clients. We plan on retaining Ric's Printer Scripts for our Citrix infrastructure. So my question is, has anyone done this? Are there any pitfalls I should know about?
