Hello everyone, I was wondering if someone can help, we currently have a mix of Windows 7 computers and some new Surface 3s running Windows 10. For the last few years we have used mandatory profiles on windows 7 which has worked well. However with the new Surfaces running Windows 10 I have created a new .v5 profile which works however the default apps such camera don't seem to work. Has anyone got them working or knows of a way to get them working. Let me know if you need anymore information? Kind Regards

Just before christmas my team looked at the various versions of Windows 10 and decided ENT LTSB was the best option for our schools. The cut-down look was great, and easiest to sell on to teachers as its just an updated Win7. But this week a teacher asked me "where is the photo viewer?".... Urm.... Turns out "Photo Viewer" is not enabled, you can do a registry fix to bring it back. But that made us realise that the new Photo app wasnt present, or the calculator, or any remote option of sideloading apps in the future. (I think it is possible to load apps to LTSB, but its not officially supported so we will be avoiding this.) As a result, we need to rethink our deployments. I am looking at whether Education or Enterprise is best for schools, what do you think? I think Education seems the best bet Sadly though during our time trials LTSB was under 2 minutes for initial login, but Education was 3-4minutes for initial login. So this is going to annoy the pupils without a doubt! How is everyone deploying apps btw?

Morning everyone, I've got a major issue with KMS here. Until last week, we had all Windows 7 clients (with Office2010) activated via KMS on a server 2008R2 DC. Well this summer we have rebuilt both our DC's and upgraded them to server 2012 R2. I am trying to set KMS up and it's not working My aim is to have a KMS server which will activate Windows 7 and 10 (as we plan to roll that out over the year) as well as Office 2010 and 2016 - which we also plan to roll out. Is there a KMS key which will activate Windows 7 and 10, and another to activate office 2010 and 2016? I know this is a big ask however we can't be the first school to do this... Thanks in advance. Regards Harry

Evening All, I am battling a confusing random user logout that is occurring for most students on many different devices (both Windows 10 and Windows 11). It doesn't seem to affect any admin or teacher accounts logged into the same devices. The device logs seem to to suggest the users initiated the logouts but I know from the test devices I have running that it just happens regardless of whether the devices are in use or have been idle for a while. I have gone through a range of ideas from app updates (Minecraft Edu), Classroom control software (Veyon and Sophos for AV) through to various power management settings and things like CEIP. I believe i have isolated it to our Student User GPO, which has evolved for years from well before I started. My thoughts now are to manually recreate the GPO a few settings at a time until I can find out any that seem to cause this. The downside is this will take for ever since there doesn't appear to be any way to force the logout. Some days we can have a couple of logouts in the morning and then nothing for the rest of the day and then you get days like today when it was non-stop all day. Does any of the collective knowledge here have any suggestions of areas I should concentrate on. My initial thoughts are Google Chrome and MS Edge policies since I have already removed all power management ones which I thought could be the reason. Nothing is immediately obvious in the rest of the policies but this MS afterall so anything is possible. A positive to this though is that I could get a much cleaner GPO. If it helps, the devices are all Intune hybrid joined too, so management is through both GPO and Intune. Thanks Vince

I'm tearing my hair out over this one as it used to work reliably and now doesn't, I've tried 4 different methods of scripting network printer connections but none of them seem to work 100%. I can't use PaperCut Print Deploy because it doesn't support deploying printers based on Active Directory properties of the computer. Same for Group Policy Preferences. I have tried: objNetwork.AddWindowsPrinterConnection \\PRINTSERVERNAME\PRINTQUEUE cscript.exe %windir%\System32\Printing_Admin_Scripts\en-US\prnmngr.vbs -ac -p \\PRINTSERVERNAME\PRINTQUEUE rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /in /q /n \\PRINTSERVERNAME\PRINTQUEUE objShell.Run "%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe \\PRINTSERVERNAME\PRINTQUEUE", 0, True Can anyone suggest any other more reliable ways to deploy printers? It's not the PrintNightmare stuff as that would mean it wouldn't work at all, what is happening is it is randomly deploying some of the printers and not others.

Hi all, If you've tried this out most of your will be aware of the issue with installing RSAT on Windows 10, by that I mean it doesn't actually install(it appears to but doesn't actually install anything). There are numerous posts on forums around the internet but I'll re-iterate what we've found out, it was actually my deputy NM that figured this one. Windows 10 RSAT will only install if you have US language selected and the US language pack installed! So basically just change your language to US then click on the options and you are presented with the ability to download the language pack. Once this is complete you can install RSAT and it should go through happily, you know you've succeeded if it tells you you need to restart your computer to finish installing updates. If you haven't set the language correctly to US it will still appear to install correctly, however the install goes through very quickly and nothing really happens. You don't need to be on domain for the RSAT install, be careful if you have a policy on your domain fixing the language setting to UK as this might be stopping things from working. Once RSAT is on your system, you can change your language back to UK. I would like to say I'm flabbergasted that Microsoft could have overlooked this, however most of us have seen these type of foibles before so I'm sadly not that surprised. Good luck!

I have upgraded to Windows 10 but our oldest CleverTouch boards are not working correctly since upgrading. Were fine on Windows 7 with the in box drivers. Basically Windows detects the boards and touch works but only for gestures not mouse clicks so they are next to useless for touch. Sahara support pointed me to try a long list of drivers until one worked. None did. I got the paid for https://touch-base.com/download UPDD driver to work but trial expires after 7 days and has 200 clicks per reboot limit. CleverTouch don't support the first gen boards any more!! Any pointers? Anyone else struggling wint 1st Gen CleverTouch Clevertouch Clever LCD Touch dual USB (X) GTC9CFC

Hi, I have been asked in school to make sure all portable devices that come into school are bitlocker enabled for security which is fine. However I am having an issue with SD cards. IF the sd card is bitlockered then the camera will not use it but with the SD card not being bitlockered the user cannot delete photos from the card on a laptop to clear unwanted photos. Does any one know of a way around this? Thanks.

Hello Not been here for a while but somthing is really bugging me now ive googled the hell out of this issue to no ovail. We are getting to the point were most machine have 100+ profiles which has a knockon effect on drive space. I have added group policy "Delete user profiles older than a specified number of days on system restart" but this doesn't appear to work with the "Windows 10" machines #annoying So i have loaded up gpedit.msc changed the setting "Delete user profiles older than a specified number of days on system restart" for the local profile......rebooted still nothing everything is the same......so changed the setting back i then used regshot 1.9 took a shot of the registry then changed the setting then took another shot to see the changes. So i then exported [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System] "CleanupProfiles"=dword:00000005 And [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System] "CleanupProfiles"=dword:0000001e Rebooted the machine but still the profiles are on the machines........Can someone help me with this task

I found a few teachers that had the full Teams client installed on their laptops. I'm confused as they're normal users, Microsoft special source?

After punting for Windows 10 build 1607 on our new machines, I installed and configured Windows 10 Edu on it, installed drivers and software required. Made sure SCCM was up to date (version 1606) and made new Capture Media. Took the new PC off the domain, enabled local admin account, no password, removed any profiles off the machine and ran the created CD. Progress bars go through fine, then just as the PC is about to reboot after sysprepping I get a BSOD (WHEA UNCORRECTABLE ERROR) and the machine reboots. It doesn't go into Windows PE and continue the capture process. It is using Secure Boot on the BIOS. Disable and use legacy boot instead? I've looked through error logs, and can't find anything obvious as to why its doing this. Any pointers/suggestions? Its an HP Pro 400 All-in-One PC. My gut is thats its driver related ... But do I just uninstall them and try sysprepping again?

My friend is a head teacher for a local school. He has a free MS 365 from Microsoft. He wants to format the 10 computers they have since the windows version is too old 1909. Some of those computers has WIN 10 Education and the rest has WIN 10 Pro. I would like to know if WIN 10 Education can join to the domain and if WIN 10 Eudcation is free of charge for educational sector. Thank you

Hi All, We have currently been looking into Alternatives for the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapters V2, As they have been messing with the wireless and creating all sorts of issues, with the multiple devices, Has anybody got any other wireless display solutions currently in place?, and does this work well with multiple devices in the room / multiple displays streaming close by. Any suggestions would be helpful Thanks, Kris

Hello Everyone, I'm just posting to find out if anyone else is having this issue. I have started to see an issue arise after upgrading the PCs to Windows 10. Basically, what happens is it will all be working fine then a different student will log on and it will just have a black screen but the cursor showing. If they log on somewhere else its fine so it cant be a profile issue. I have a temp fix for the issue which is to log them off and log back on. That works but I'm just wondering why it's doing it in the first place. Thanks Cameron
