Just before christmas my team looked at the various versions of Windows 10 and decided ENT LTSB was the best option for our schools. The cut-down look was great, and easiest to sell on to teachers as its just an updated Win7. But this week a teacher asked me "where is the photo viewer?".... Urm.... Turns out "Photo Viewer" is not enabled, you can do a registry fix to bring it back. But that made us realise that the new Photo app wasnt present, or the calculator, or any remote option of sideloading apps in the future. (I think it is possible to load apps to LTSB, but its not officially supported so we will be avoiding this.) As a result, we need to rethink our deployments. I am looking at whether Education or Enterprise is best for schools, what do you think? I think Education seems the best bet Sadly though during our time trials LTSB was under 2 minutes for initial login, but Education was 3-4minutes for initial login. So this is going to annoy the pupils without a doubt! How is everyone deploying apps btw?

Hi Everyone, Im running into the following 2 errors when deploying W10 to client computers: FAILURE (5627): 14 Run DISM.exe Litetouch deployment failed, return code 2147467259 This image had been working fine until I had to reboot the MDT server and the VM got stuck applying updates. I had to rebuild the SoftwareDeployment folder and rollback changes. I dont believe this would have caused this issue but its the only thing that has changed since the image worked last. So far I have tried: Imaging multiple machines which have worked previously Using a different TS Updating the Unattended.xml file Copying new install files from ISO and updating the TS Im running MDT 2013 Update 1. Log files are here: https://1drv.ms/f/s!AvBOuJ0XnqfLlAtmMUoBfM0kQSF4 Any help is appreciated! Cheers

Hi Guys , We have one last PC running 1507:scared: ,which hasn't been updated as the PC has some niche software/drivers and doing a reimage to upgrade would be a huge hindrance to get it all back to what it was, just wondering if anyone knows how to update windows 10 LTSB 1507 to a newer version of windows and still be able to keep the files and apps. Currently when I try running any windows setup, be it 1607,1809,1903,1909, 20h2 but cannot keep files and apps 'because you are installing an edition of windows that's different than the one' have tried running windows updates and selecting the updates from microsoft however never pulls down the 1909 update. Does anyone know a way of doing an in place update and keeping the files and apps Many Thanks

Working with a school to upgrade, cleanup and generally simplify an aging setup. Very small school (20 children, 12 Staff, plus 3 Admin staff who would access SIMS and FMS) Currently a single physical Dell server (approx 7+ years old) is doing pretty much everything: DC, DHCP, DNS, STORAGE, SQL+SIMS, and VPN. I've been in a similar position before and the server setup I put in place has proven good. Already spoken to Dave at ICTDirect and I see an option there for refrub, but I'll give them options of new and custom built along with it. Questions 1. Can SQL Server Express 2016 happily run and serve the above setup (a SIMS and FMS DB) when installed on Windows 10 EDU or LTSB edition?? 2. Is it recommended/preferred to install the other SIMS related stuff (SOLUS 3, System Manager, Document Server) on the same VM as the SQL DB ? 3. With GDPR in mind, does each VM (disk) need to be encrypted, just the SIMS DB vm disk, or none of the above? 4. Is a TPM 2.0 module for the server board compulsory to achieve any necessary encryption? 5. Will a server with an Intel E3-1220 v6 processor be sufficient to handle three VMs for the above mentioned roles? Thank you for your help

Hi, I've been following Edugeek for years, but this is my first post. We are using Windows 10 LTSB enterprise 1607 for the bulk of our PCs and are greeted with a blue screen at login on recently deployed computers. We have recently updated our deployment image (just the standard image with updates embedded in the WIM file from WSUS to speed up deployment for MDT). The PCs this image has been deployed on show the blue login screen, the PCs with the old image (all the same updates from the same WSUS server applied over time) show the correct logon background. We also have a couple of office PCs on enterprise 1803 with all updates from WSUS in the WIM file and these also show the login background correctly. The new image PCs show the correct location for the logon background in rsop and the registry but for some reason it doesn't apply. We have tried things posted elsewhere on here such as taking ownership of folders to change permissions and we have tried copying the windows.login.ui.pri file from a pc with the old image to no avail. We don't think the issue relates to group policy as it successfully applies on all other images but have tried both UNC and local paths for the image. Does anyone know a fix for this issue? The school colours aren't blue (and don't want to open the logon colour can of worms as that appears even worse than the logon background) Any hints would be greatly appreciated.
