This won't affect anyone on Windows 10 22H2 with ESUs, but if your plan to continue using Windows 10 involves using the LTSC version of 21H2 (EOL next year for non-IoT) or 1809 (EOL 2029), or you have a folder on your server (<2025, as 2022 is 21H2) syncing scanned documents (like we do) then you'll not be getting any more security or bugfix updates for OneDrive. Message Centre post: https://admin.cloud.microsoft/?ref=MessageCenter/:/messages/MC1426708 (including a copy below as the formatting on the message makes it unreadable - also note that they say 22H1 or earlier, but that doesn't exist as they moved to annual for the last year of W10)

Hi, Only one member of staff keeps reporting that various applications, such as SIMS, Notepad ++ often become suspended and are then unresponsive. Edge and Chrome are also becoming suspended, which is causing delays of 10 minutes or so before the apps start functioning correctly apparently! I have uninstalled the apps and have deleted the local profile but that has made no difference. I have checked the logs, but nothing obvious is occurring. It’s just the head of Computing that appears to be experiencing “suspended” programs as no other teachers have reported this. Just wondered if anyone else has experienced this with 3rd party application and windows 10 Education? Thanks in advance!

So im testing the RTM build of pro on one of our systems. Took a little beating our head against the table to get it to install, but it installed without any errors. Got logged in, have it joined to the domain with no problems there, can log in with domain account, can map protected drives, but when we attempt to access installers on the network drive it isn't accepting our domain admin accounts. It says that the process requires elevation. when i attempt to use the local admin account to authorize the install, it complains saying we can't use one account to access the drive and another to authorize install. I've checked to make sure it is looking in the right place for DNS information, but its like the Active directory on our Server 2012 install isn't always able to communicate with windows 10. It can enough to login, to access drives, but not to elevate for permissions. anyone else having this problem and know how to fix it?

Got a load of HP convertibles on Win 10, but I can't get the Start Menu to work as advertised. I don't want to use Classic Shell as I feel that the "official" layout is going to be more representative of what the kids will see elsewhere, and is more "touch friendly". I have an "arranged" Start Menu built into the image, but this doesn't seem to work for if a student logs on (their "All items" menu is also missing most programs). Tried the "export as xml" thing, which again works for non-Students. (Also tried excising a line from the XML that someone claimed might help). Manually altering the xml post export doesn't seem to make any changes anywhere. I've checked through various folders and ensured users have access and looked at GPOs that might be affecting the start menu, but can't find any likely culprits. I'd turn off tablet mode (as the redirected desktop then shows), but this leaves the keyboard and trackpad active, which is no good. Anyone actually got the start menu working?

Morning All, We're currently in the process of testing Windows 10 for students (we already have some staff testing it for us who are giving helpful feedback), for students we would like to stick with a Mandatory profile, mainly because it is easier to manage one profile rather than 4000+ roaming profiles, and it is quick to log on. I have configured a Mandatory profile for Windows 10 and assigned it to our test student account, however when logged on with this profile the user's start menu does not open, the action centre doesn't work, nor does Cortana.. has anybody else experience this? If so, have you found a fix? Cheers

Hi All, We are a small school deploying a handful of new Lenovo M83 ThinkStations. They have come pre-installed with Win7 Pro. I would like to upgrade one to Win 10 and get it configured then do a simple clone to the other two systems that I need to deploy to the same work area. These systems have their Windows license embedded in BIOS, I believe. Is there a chance in heck that this is going to work for us, be legal, and result in a Windows install that can be activated. If not what do you suggest? I see info on Windows Imaging and Configuration Designer is this what I need? Will this even work without a volume license deal? Thanks. Sorry I am so clueless. Seems like this stuff used to be easier.

I'm not sure whether this is a Windows 10 post, or a Raspberry Pi post - but I think the Windows 10 is a bit more relevant. What's your thought on Microsoft releasing a free version of Windows 10 for the Pi? I've heard some crazy things - but I think this will be awesome to see it in action: https://dev.windows.com/en-us/featured/raspberrypi2support I'm keen to see the Pi2 when I can get my hands on one.

Hi. We're using Windows 10 1803 Education We're attempting to customize the Start Menu Tiles, done via import-startlayout. However, any links aren't copying across correctly. The Google link isn't showing up at all. Is there any other way to do this? Thank you.

We think a recent change to Windows 10 has stopped our Windows 10 laptops from connecting automatically to our Ruckus system... Some context: We have had for a number of years been using RADIUS from one of our DCs and a WiFi network called Restricted on our Ruckus wireless system and an inline filtering appliance. Laptops that are in a particular security group are allowed to join this WiFi network automatically and it works, it works without issue on Windows 7 clients and was working with Windows 10 clients too until recently. Now Windows 10 clients wont connect automatically to the WiFi upon boot causing them to not process group policy and they sit on the 'Applying Settings' message for a long time before giving up. It seems to be that Windows 10 now checks if there is an Internet connection before it will auto join the WiFi network and where we use an inline filtering appliance, machines do not get the Internet until a user logs on and is authenticated. I've tried allowing msftconnecttest.com via the filter to all machines in the hope that in the background the machine would check if this is available and allow the connection to the WiFi network but this does not seem to have fixed it. Has anyone else had experience of this in a similar set up to us? any suggestions would be most appreciated! Thanks.

Every now and then when users logon, we have noticed some GPOs do not get apply at logon. Things like BGInfo script, Mapped Drives, Logon scripts, Printers etc. I've run gpresult with /h and rsop.msc and they all show GPOs being applied If the user logs off and on again straight away, the GPOs get applied correctly. Currently seeing these issues on Windows 10 LTSB and 1709 - not noticed on Windows 7 Anyone else come across strange little things like this?

We are currenlty testing windows 10 GPOs in our test lab. On our windows 7 machines with 7 only GPOs (WMI filters), users are unable to access the local machines disk via \\computername\c$ (C: is hidden in file explorer) or any other location for that matter eg \\file-server\d$ as they get a pop saying that its disabled. On the windows 10 machines, users are able to access the local machines c:\ in file explorer via \\computername\c$ (C: is hidden in file explorer) and when trying to access a server share eg \\file-server\d$ as they get confirm your user credentials (which they don't have.) sure i'm just over looking a gpo here but can't see the forest because of the trees! Anybody got any pointers please?

Situation: A client has called me that they will bring in their desktop pc secured with bootlocker and a Windows 10 login (he says It's NOT a Microsoft account). He has his bootlocker password but not his recovery key. He somehow managed to mess up his Windows 10 login password. Question: Is there a way to run windows 10 password removal software such as hirens or offline NT after entering the bootlocker password but before booting windows? Thanks!

Hi All, A teacher has an issue where on her laptop she can create a slide and on that machine it shows as the slide being full. When the teacher then loads that slide on the PC in the classroom the slide then has lots more space around where she could have used in the first place. Is there a setting in Smart 11 that will allow the slide to match on both machines? I would have thought this was automatic. Point to note:- The resolution between the PC and laptop are almost the same. Many thanks

We have recently re-imaged all machines to Windows 10 (1703). We now seem to have issues with all our smartboards (various models). When the desktop loads the board is interactive. As soon as smart ink loads the board becomes unresponsive when trying to drag/select anything on the desktop. The pens do work fine though. Have tried various drivers. This is only happening with Windows 10 (1703). Has anybody had this issue?

Testing out the latest Windows 10 version and seem to be getting an issues with roaming profiles where it doesn't write the profiles back to the file share/server. For a user logging in for the first time it creates the folder on the server but that folder then remains empty after log off. For a user that already has a profile created it seems to pull the profile down (haven't confirmed this 100% yet) but doesn't upload the roaming profile back to the server. Computers running Windows 10 1903 work as expected. Does anyone else have version 2004, with roaming profiles, who could see if they are also getting this issue? Thanks

Is anyone using Windows Take a Test app for state testing? In florida we have two testing platforms, Air and TestNav. So our plan was the create a landing page in HTML and configure the take a test profile in Intune to direct users from to the landing page.( This part is working) From here the student would select Testnav or Air Test from the portal and in the background ms-edu-secureassessment:"https://fl.testnav.com or the Air test url would launch. We are having a hard time getting the code for ms-edu-secureassessment: to launch the take a test app correctly. Has anyone else tried this? Adam

Hi Guys, I have been given a bunch of laptops from a school to set up for 'exam use'. The only application that is needed is Wordpad. Everything else removed/blocked. What is the best way to configure this? I've tried configuring wordpad to be the only application allowed through GPO but after applying this the preloaded windows 10 apps can still run. I tried running 'Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers | Remove-AppxPackage' in powershell but this runs fine but does nothing. I then tried Kiosk mode but cant seem to use wordpad with this. I am currently looking into another app to use for this while I wait for the restore to finish where i accidentally locked myself out of all gpo settings.. These laptops are on Windows 10 for Education OS. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks! Tom.

Hi Guys, Wondering if anyone has experienced this. All PCS on the domain get this message upon bootup. Applying {FC491EF1-C4AA-4CE1-B329-414B101DB823} policy. The policy hangs for up to 3-4 mins depending on processor speed. I have used Event Viewer Group Policy event logs to narrow it down to the Applocker GPO. I can't see anything else on Event Viewer that suggests that the GPO timed out or if there is an error. This is the only GPO that takes quite a long time and as we have older PCS up to 10 years, this is having a performance impact upon computer startup. Would appreciate anyone's thoughts. Thank you, Jack

I am trying to use Set up School for PC's app. When using the app I am not able to use my Microsoft account, but I am able to use other Admin's account, but what is odd...is I try it once it doesn't work, after trying to connect multiple times it works. I have the following items selected: Windows 10 version 1909 Allow local storage (not recommended for shared devices) Optimize device for single student Configure preferred Azure Directory Domain Name Remove apps pre-installed by the device manufacturer I am able to put in the correct domain, and I check the box for Microsoft office under the apps for Microsoft. Everything seems to work fine but when I go to install windows from the USB...it freezes at 47%. I have left this for 24 hours and over a long weekend. When I am forced to restart it is almost my computer is bricked and I need to return it to a OOBE-(Out Of Box Experience) I am not sure if I am doing anything wrong, or what is happening? I also don't get prompted for the Admin password when using the app. When I don't tie it to a Microsoft account it seems to work correctly, but we don't have it connected to Azure. Except I still don't know the Admin password, and it allows a guest mode-(which we do not want). Anyways sorry for the long post, and hopefully I am able to figure this out with some help. Thanks for the assistance.

Hi all, I've recently reimaged a number of laptops on our network. To install managed software and pull all the GPOs from our domain controller I need to run GPUpdate from a domain admin user account. When I run the GPUpdate, I get the following error: C:\Windows\system32>gpupdate /forceUpdating policy...Computer policy could not be updated successfully. The following errors were encountered:The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows attempted to read the file \\.local\SysVol\.local\Polic ies\{A1A0B568-71D9-4C4D-9DCF-CD9F431626C8}\gpt.ini from a domain controller and was not successful. Group Policy settings may not be applied until this event is resolved. This issue may be transient and could be caused by one or more of the following:a) Name Resolution/Network Connectivity to the current domain controller.b) File Replication Service Latency (a file created on another domain controller has not replicated to the current domain controller).c) The Distributed File System (DFS) client has been disabled.User Policy update has completed successfully. The following warnings were encountered during user policy processing:The Group Policy Client Side Extension Folder Redirection was unable to apply one or more settings because the changes must be processed before system startup or user logon. The system will wait for Group Policy processing to finish completely before the next startup or logon for this user, and this may result in slow startup and boot performance. To diagnose the failure, review the event log or run GPRESULT /H GPReport.html from the command line to access information about Group Policy results. I've run NSLOOKUP, and it correctly reads back the IP of our primary domain controller. When I run NSLOOKUP SCIENCE-LAPT103 (the name of the laptop), it correctly reads back its own IP address and hostname. I've also gone through and checked the RSoP. I've tried running the command as a .bat, in PowerShell, in elevated CMD. I've tried flushing the DNS config using ipconfig /flushdns, I've also done a complete networking reset on the OS, removed it from the domain and re-added it (including deleting the computer from AD and trying again), but it is consistently failing. Funnily enough, it does seem to pull through some GPOs after a while, I've checked these GPOs on the domain controller and they are all link-enabled and enforced, so I don't believe that is the issue. Has anyone else had experience with this and found a solution? I'd really appreciate a fresh set of eyes on this as I believe I've exhausted every option I can think of. Many Thanks, Liam
