I have recently installed Windows 10 and i am having trouble installing .NET Framework 3.5. the error i get is below. Windows couldnt complete the reqested changes. windows couldnt find the required file to complete the requested changes. make sure you're connected to internet, and try again. Error code: 0x800F081F could sombody shine some light on this? Thanks!

Hi all! I've been tasked with checking up on our WSUS servers at our sites and was wondering; - When it comes to an update such as Cumulative Updates for .NET Framework 2022-08 which has been superseded by 2022-10 a. Do you still approve the 2022-08 update still or do you decline this b. What affect would declining this do? c. If I was to approve the older update, would machines with newer versions (2022-10) still try to pull the 2022-08 update? Any tips on WSUS in general would be greatly appreciated. The auto approval process is already set up, it's just updates like Edge and .NET / any other random unapproved updates that come through I'm struggling with.

Recently we upgraded SCCM from SQL 2012 to SQL 2017. Ever since we have found that the Software Update Point Synchronization is now taking 1 hour 45 minutes to sync in the console from Microsoft Update and then show as completed, in the WSUS console though it is showing as finished in minutes. Has anyone seen this before? Thanks

I've disabled the Store, and configured my Windows 10 clients to check our local WSUS server for updates, defer Feature Updates for 365 days, prevented deferral policies from causing scans against Windows Update, prevented connection to any WIndows Update Internet locations, and removed access to use all Windows Update features. I am still seeing 300GB of traffic per day from subdomains of tlu.dl.delivery.mp.microsoft.com.What else can I do to kill this traffic? Would blocking these domains on the Smoothwall cause problems?

Hi, we have a network of following servers; currently we only install the latest Service Packs on the servers. 2 x Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-v hosts (Failover Cluster) 1 x Windows Server 2012 R2 Physical Server (DC + DNS + DHCP) 1 x Windows Server 2012 Virtual Server (DC + DNS + DHCP) 1 x Windows Server 2008 R2 Physical Server (SQL 2008) 1 x Windows Server 2008 R2 Virtual Server (FileServer) 1 x Windows Server 2012 Virtual Server (Print Server) 1 x Windows Server 2008 R2 Virtual Server (Application + IIS Server) 1 x Windows Server 2008 R2 Virtual Server (KasperskyMDTFileServer) There are about 500+ Windows 7 & Desktops. I am looking to install a WSUS on a virtual server (Server 2012 R2). What sort of Windows updates do you install on your servers ? How often do you install the updates on your servers ? Do you also installs updates your Windows 7/8 desktops ? Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

Hi I want some advice. I'm looking at deploying Windows 7 and maybe a few Windows 8.1 Operating systems at work, I have downloaded the ISO files from my Volume Licensing Center and want to be able to patch them with up to date windows updates via the DISM tool ready for deployment via MDT 2013. Rather than me having to create a Virtual Machine to install these O/S machines and update / Sysprep / and capture all of the OS i want to deploy. is there just a way that i can Mount the Wim image using DISM and then run a windows update on the mounted image? or is there a tool that will tell me what updates are missing from the Wim image? I'm not sure what Microsoft technology or tool is out there that will do this job. so i was hoping some one could help show me how i could achieve this Any help would be appreciated, thank you

Hi all, We've recently started to use WSUS to its full extent and are assigning updates to all our Windows Client PCs/Servers from it. Updates go through a testing program (usually inside VMs) before deployment to the clients/servers to make sure we have no problems. All the XP/7 Desktops/Notebooks are working great however our Windows 2008 DCs (at least this only appears to be affecting DCs) don't install updates on the programed schedule. Looking in the event log of a server (non DC (also R2 not R1)) that is installing updates correctlyI see the message- Installation Ready: The following updates are downloaded and ready for installation. This computer is currently scheduled to install these updates on ‎11 ‎November ‎2010 at 03:00: - Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 - November 2010 (KB890830) Looking in the event log of a DC that is not installing updates automatically I see the message- Installation Ready: The following updates are downloaded and ready for installation. To install the updates, an administrator should log on to this computer and Windows will prompt with further instructions: - Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 - November 2010 (KB890830) Both servers are a member of the same OU with the same GPO applied to them to install all updates on every Friday at 3AM, the only thing that I can figure out that is different is those that aren’t installing are 2008 R1 with AD installed and those that are are running R2 and don’t have AD installed. Is anyone else experiencing the absolute pain that is this update? if so has anyone found a patch or that, that works? issues we're having: - It removes display drivers (auto or manually installed). - It's now removing other drivers (like printers) too. I know they stopped pushing it out for a brief spell because of the display error, they've recently pushed it out again and it's worse!

Hi, I hope everybody is having a good Easter. Here's a quick one as I'm probably being thick. I am running WSUS which appears to be doing everything it says on the tin. When updates are synced, I receive an email with a list. A large chunk of updates which have been downloaded are months old. I've been running it for about 2 years so it doesn't need to catch up with anything. There are links to security updates published back in 2014. The malicious software removal tool is often 6 months out of date. Is this just me being thick? Cheers, Paul.

Hi, Just a quick bit of advice for people using the latest TP build (9926) (Friday January 23) receiving the following Windows Update error 0x80070057 using WSUS. Just a heads up really. Last night I VPN'd into my servers to perform the Windows Updates. I always do this from home over night so they can reboot and I've had 100% success until last night... We've got 6 servers all Win2k8 x64, 2 of which are DC's I restarted them and went to reconnect only I couldn't. 3 of the server's wasn't coming back on properly. I could remote into my Win2k3 server then try RDP into the other servers with no joy yet I could ping them. I remotely viewed the services of the problem servers but I couldn't change them. The ping's would then fail and come back online suggesting the servers are rebooting themselves. I left them for 30mins hoping they are configuring updates and rebooting. That's exactly what they're doing and have been doing all night. I come in at 7 expecting the worst. The servers was "applying computer settings", then comes up "Wait for the Windows Modules Installer" then "Configuring updates 0%" after which it reboots. Fortunately I'd written down EMBC's DNS servers and was able to connect to the internet to find solutions. W2K8 continuously rebots after Windows Update I followed "Method 3" mentioned. It bypasses the Configuring Updates. It's enabled me to login to the console and bring back all the services so the schools functioning. My concern now is... -What update caused this? -By renaming the pending.xml file, I doubt I can install roles / features as they normally require a restart and configuring on boot. -The servers not affected by this that booted normally have more updates available. I'm worried these might be waiting to install the problematic update and cause those to loop too. I'm in the process of going through logs in an attempt to solve this. I'll keep you posted just in case you guys ever have the same problem. Thanks

Hi All, I’d like to know how do you implement Automated Windows server updates if your DMZ Windows box doesn’t have access to the internet but only have access to production site and to your LAN only. I tried to remove the proxy server information from my Windows Server 2008 R2 internet settings but it seems that I cannot get it updated automatically from WSUS? Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, AWT

We just sent out the MS10-002 (KB978207) critical patch to our network via WSUS. We have a Windows XP network using mostly IE7 and have found a substantial number of users now cannot browse the Internet through IE7. This issue does not appear to affect any IE8 or IE6 users (though I can't verify that) and does not affect all IE7 users. The only resolution we have found so far is to visit each computer and manually uninstall the patch but I can't do that to every computer with this problem - do you have any idea what is causing this and what can be done to fix it? Hi All, I have been looking into upgrading my Hyper-v hosts from Server 2012 R2 to Server 2016. Everything seems to be in order except for one stumbling block - Windows Updates. I have installed Server 2016 with a GUI, not clustered and no WSUS, I cannot find a way of preventing Windows updates from downloading, installing, and most importantly I cannot find a way of totally preventing the server from rebooting until I manually chose to do so myself. With the existing 2012 R2 setup I either shut down the VMs and perform windows update manually or migrate the VMs to a different host and perform the updates, again manually. Does anyone know of a way to replicate this in Server 2016? Surely it must be possible to turn off the automatic updates...not everyone has clustering. I have configured this GPO setting but the Windows Update app didn't change. Thanks in advance

Interesting problem, I had need to use a serial board promethean active board on a new laptop. Dug around my buckets and pulled out a genuine prolific serial to usb adaptor.... Nothing happened. I checked device manager and it was installed but the device name was "THIS DEVICE IS NO LONGER SUPPORTED AS OF 2012" this was the device name NOT a message from the OS! I went and got a generic adaptor and when I installed it the device name was "THIS IS NOT A GENUINE PROLIFIC DEVICE" !!That's the device name in device manager!!.... I uninstalled the device and the driver, did a new hardware scan and bam! same device name. So have prolific tainted the Windows Update Driver System with Malicious Drivers that nerf old or unofficial devices?
