Hi Guys, I'm having a problem with Temporary Internet Files (Specifically wsusscn.cab files) filling up the local drive in the following location "C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5". This location is not controlled through the Logged on user's IE session as Temp Internet Files for the logged on user exist in "C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files" so running a delete from the Browsing history section doesn't make a difference. Space can be restricted from this section too so have some level of control be it manually or through GPO but how do I control the systemprofile location? I'm thinking this will be more a Computer Configuration setting through GPO rather than User Configuration as would normally be the case for controlling user settings seeing as this is the system profile so possibly a setting under "Computer Config > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Internet Explorer > Internet Control Panel > General Page > Browsing History"? Cheers

We have started to deploy Windows 7 using Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) and Deployment Services (we have always used Ghost in the past). Unfortunately we have found (after deploying 60 machines!) that the Internet does not work on a MDT deployed workstation on Internet Explorer 8 or 9 (DVD installed and Ghosted workstations work fine?!). We are however able to connect to the Internet using Firefox and Chrome, download Windows updates and device drives from the Internet, ping the county councils proxy and connect to the Netsweeper admin console from the affected machines using IE. Internet proxy settings are set by Group Policy and work fine for XP and Windows 7 workstations that we have installed from DVD or imaged using Ghost. We have tried deploying a workstation to a workgroup rather the domain (thus no GPOs applied) and after manually entering the proxy information IE still doesn’t work (but Firefox etc. do..) Microsoft are now involved and although we still have no resolution we have discovered using Microsoft Network Monitor 3.4 that it appears to be an issue related to NTLM authentication as when the proxy asks the second time for NTLM authentication the workstation fails to send another request and simply displays the ‘Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage’ page. It appears that IE only sends the domain and workstation name to the proxy and then fails to respond when requested for the username. On a working workstation IE will send an additional request with domain, workstation name and username and from there the proxy will authenticate and send the page requested. The question is, has anyone else experienced this issue, either related to MDT or separately? If the answer is yes have you managed to resolve it and what was the resolution? Any help with this is much appreciated as our Windows 7 deployment is now very much at risk. Many thanks Nath

Not sure what's getting in the way, but users are unable to download some files from websites using IE7. I tested with Firefox bypassing the proxy (ISA 2006) and it worked fine, so it leads me to believe it's ISA-related. Tested on IE7 on my PC going through proxy and can't download. The file seems to download fine, and displays the Secure Download page, but once the user is offered "Save to Disk" button, it can't go past this step. Anyone come across this? Sits here for ages:

Hi for the last few days, we have not been able to connect to the dropbox.com website. I have tried Chrome, IE and Firefox and none of them will connect. They all give slightly different errors: IE says: Turn on TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2 in Advanced settings and try connecting to https://www.dropbox.com again. If this error persists, contact your site administrator. I have tried this and it makes no difference. Chrome says: This webpage is not available ERR_CONNECTION_CLOSED and Firefox says: Secure Connection Failed The connection to http://www.dropbox.com was interrupted while the page was loading. The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified. Please contact the web site owners to inform them of this problem. Has anyone else had similar problems over the last few days. I get the same errors on other https sites. Any help/pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Paul

Hi, We have been struggling with a problem accessing the google search page using Internet Explorer within our school network for a while now. The computers affected are Windows 7 SP1 x64 running IE 11. Users who are affected cannot load the main google search page correctly, as a large white box blocks the screen, and never disappears. Here is a screenshot of the problem. We’ve tried the usual fixes, such as deleting all browser history, running IE without add-ins and in compatibility mode. None of these have helped. Roaming profiles are used, and once a user has the problem, they have the problem on other computers as well. We have installed Google Chrome on affected computers, and the google search page loads correctly. We can only use this as a test, and not roll out Chrome, as most of our systems require Internet Explorer to function. It seems like an incorrect setting in Internet Explorer, but we can’t find any settings in IE that make an impact. Has anyone had this issue before, and (hopefully!) found a fix for it? Failing that, does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, Jake

Good Morning, Here's an interesting one. In GPP, when I set an Internet Settings preference for any version of I.E., all the settings disappear after a few minutes. You re-open the preference and everything is removed. When viewing the XML in \\domain\sysvol\domain\policies\{guid}\Users\Preferences\InternetSetings - over time the entries slowly disappear, leaving only the targeting groups (with no settings) in the XML. I have tried with several GPOs, both old and new - it keeps happening. No other GPPs have any issues at all - just the internet ones. Every time I search Google, the only results are about people who can't find the old IE Maintenance policy, not this specific issue. Cheers for your help. Paul.

Hi All, Just wondering if anyone else had encountered the same bug as one of our users have. When she gets the login.microsoftonline.com sign in page, and her credentials have been remembered on the device she uses, the button for her login name is unclickable, as are the three dots... also the 'use another account' button is also gone. Finally, if the device has saved any other credentials before, if she logs in, it magically forgets all of them too. In case that was too incoherent, here's a screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/kYkIFAv.jpg This happens on every browser, on every device, on every Internet connection I have at disposal to test.. Chrome on Android, Safari on Mac, IE/Chrome on Windows 7/8/10, on our school Internet, my home connection, 4G phone network... I've never seen anything like it. I'm just praying no-one else onsite has the same issue, or our big move to 365 is going to be dead in the water .. Any advice is most appreciated!

Hi all, Now this is a really annoying and unusual one. There are 2 members of staff at the school where i'm at who are having difficulties with FB. When they're logged into thw windows under their account and go onto facebook, login to facebook under their account after 5 seconds it comes up with an error "IE cannot display the webpage". Yet when i log into my fb account under the users windows account, it allows me on, and i can browse etc and do the normal facebook stuff, and the same happens when i logon to windows under my account (admin) it works for me on facebook but not for the user. Also sometimes it'll work like they'll be able to see the initial homepage but then when they go to click on a photo or anything it just comes up with the IE error. Does anyone have any clue what to do? I have recreated profiles, deleted browsing history/passwords etc etc and cannot think what to do now?

Whenever I try to access OP Smartdesk using Internet Explorer there are all sorts of problems with it. For example, when you click on a job to view the details a message box will appear saying : Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site http://ourschoolhelpdeskID. Operation aborted. In some cases where we can open a job, we are unable to edit anything about it because we do not see the large reply text box. We can only see the title of the job. Therefore we are unable to close or update jobs. In the bottom left hand corner of the screen is the little yellow warning sign with the exclamation mark. When I click on it to view the details I get a message saying “HTML Parsing Error: Unable to modify the parent container element before the child element is closed”. I have googled this error message but all I get is help pages relating to sites that people are developing themselves. Our site is hosted by OP Software and I have already been in touch with them and they have told me there is nothing wrong their end. I knew that already because the helpdesk works fine on Firefox. Interestingly though, this problem only started happening a few weeks ago. No updates were done on the machines to make this happen. What is also odd is that we have two completely separate networks in the school, each with their own Internet settings, and it happens on both. Can anyone offer any advice on what I might need to do within ie to get this working? Downloading Firefox on all the machines in school is not an option! Many thanks.

Hey guys, This may sound silly but a member of staff called us about a little spider that appears in only IE, we first noticed it on her home page (google) and then on her deskop too. She had loads of toolbars installed, they were uninstalled by our lead technician but it seems the little spider is still there. If you click on it it moves its little legs and sometimes moves around the page. We are not sure how to get rid of it and guessing its some sort of virus. I have tried print screening it but it does not show up when the print screen is pasted. Any ideas how to get rid of it? And no it isn't a real spider thats got into the screen lol. Thanks

Hi, We are having problems at the moment where by the EMBC have blocked iGoogle but some of the students have already been on the site prior to the blocking. This means that when they goto google.co.uk the browser/google redirects them to their iGoogle page which is blocked. We have gone through deleting all cookies etc but this has still not resolved the issue for some users. The only thing that seems to work is to do a browser reset or run IE in private mode which is our current work around. I have read threads about iGoogle but all of those seem to be about blocking it which the EMBC doesnt seem to have a problem with Any help would be great! Regards, Ben

Hi, We're running Moodle 1.9 on Ubuntu server and using LDAP authentication from CC3 ActiveDirectory. I never have any login problems with firefox but Internet Explorer 7 often rejects correct logins. Sometimes the user gets in after repeated attempts but it is often quicker to restart Internet Explorer. Has anyone got any ideas where to start looking for a solution to this? thanks in anticipation, Carol

Hi all, So i come across an issue that i cant seem to find anything about on google. Basically we cant print a webpage with frames out onto 1 page, they come out each on their own sheet of paper. The options for "print as laid out on screen" are greyed out, even for me as a domain admin. Anyone know where in group policy this may be? Sounds like it might be a default domain policy set somewhere but i cant see for looking. Cheers

Link 1: Announcing the Group Policy Search service - Ask the Directory Services Team - Site Home - TechNet Blogs Link 2: Group Policy Search I shall be investigating this next week [i can't seem to get the website to work from home. I have attached a screenshot I have been able to generate from the school network] http://i.imgur.com/y3NnD.jpg Looks like it will be a useful reference point for GP questions.

We just sent out the MS10-002 (KB978207) critical patch to our network via WSUS. We have a Windows XP network using mostly IE7 and have found a substantial number of users now cannot browse the Internet through IE7. This issue does not appear to affect any IE8 or IE6 users (though I can't verify that) and does not affect all IE7 users. The only resolution we have found so far is to visit each computer and manually uninstall the patch but I can't do that to every computer with this problem - do you have any idea what is causing this and what can be done to fix it? Thanks

Hi All, To start off, all the computers in the school have Internet Explorer 6 and Firefox 3.6 with the latest flash installed (10.0.45.2). The reason we have stayed with IE6 is that the WA Department of Education use an Oracle webmail program to centrally manage all staff and student emails instead of each school having its own exchange server. The Idea is good in theory allowing people to move schools without changing their email address and so on. But it does have a few issues, one of the major ones being that it only works properly with IE6 and as such we are not allowed to upgrade to IE7 or 8. Any way after a recent updated on the mathletics website (mathletics.com.au) now when students click to sign in they get an error saying: “Mathletics has detected that you are using Internet Explorer 6 as your web browser. Microsoft no longer supports Internet Explorer 6. To continue using Mathletics, please upgrade your web browser. Please click on OK to upgrade your browser.” “Ok” takes them to the MS download page for IE8 and “Cancel” just dose nothing. They get this error even when using Firefox 3.6. I tried calling their helpdesk and they were not available, I have sent an email as well but I thought I would post this here and see if any one has a salution. Is there any simple way of “fooling” mathletics to think we have IE8 and allow students to log in? A nasty registry hack or something? Or am I going to have to upgrade the maths lab to IE8 and just say no email in that lab?

Hi guys, I am trying to upgrade my machines to IE10 from IE9. (Software restrictions) When I download IE11 the install works fine, but with IE10 the installer says it is not compatible with this version of Windows???? Bit strange if IE11 works? I have followed this thread https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2820688 and have all prerequisites installed. This is a newly installed machine. If anyone has had a similar issue or has any ideas let me know. Thanks

Hello all, I hope someone here can help with this really weird problem we have! Since the start of the week when people go to the Google website, the browser stops responding and closes. This happens in both Internet Explorer and Google Chrome. I have not altered anything in group policy or deployed any software that would of added toolbars etc (which was my initial thoughts) If students/ staff go to an other website, the browser is fine. Anyone got any ideas?

Hi all, Our students are now required to take tests on an online test environment that is run by a company called "EnlightKS", which we were only told about last week.. When students go to start the test, some system checks are run before you can actually start the test. It tests things like whether it can open office and opening pop up windows etc. One of the tests it does is testing whether Java is installed and whether it can run, and we are having an issue with this. The test requires you to accept and run a Java security warning in order for it to actually test whether Java is installed and can run, which is fine, if we were using chrome or firefox... In chrome and firefox, we get this pop up box, and students can click run, and the test runs and completes, and users can start the test. However, in IE11, which is what we are using, the popup box will not load up, and I cannot figure out why. FYI we are using Java version 8 update 31. I have tried entering the domain name into the Trusted site list in IE, I have entered the domain name into the security exceptions in the Java control panel, I have ensured that java scriplets, activex controls etc are enabled in IE's security settings for Trusted sites, I have enabled absolutely everything in the security settings for Trusted Sites, windows is fully up to date, I have tried using a different proxy etc and I cannot get this pop up box to show. If i revert a test machine back to Java version 7 update 71, the popup box then shows, and users can click run and do the test, so at the moment as a temporary fix, that is what we have done, reverted a bunch of machines to that version of java and they are running the tests. This would be fine, however, we have other software installed that requires the lastest version of java.... On rare occasions, the popup box will show up using version 8 update 31, and we can click run and the test will run, but it is so inconsistent that we cannot role it out properly to all machines. Has anyone got any ideas at all? I am willing to try anything at this point... Thank you very much in advance

Hi, I hope someone will be able to help or at least give a few suggestions. Recently students have been having issues with IE. When they click the shortcut, multiple windows pop up and they have to close every window then reopen IE in order to type anything in the search bar. We know it's not a case of the students being impatient and constantly clicking the shortcut if its slow to start up. It doesn't seem to occur all the time on the computers but it seems to be 'spreading' and affecting more computers. We have ran antivirus scans just in case but they are coming up clean. Student's are starting to get frustrated so we are trying to find out the cause. thanks in advance!
