I've been playing with setting up Outlook as an Exchange client, not pop/imap with EMBC's exchange server, and sharing inboxes and calendars for the admin teams You can't view another user's calendar unless Delegate is enabled, which won't enable unless Error message when you try to add a delegate in Outlook 2003: "The Delegates settings were not saved correctly" is followed, which doesn't allow send-on-behalf-of. Apparently due to not having write permission to the AD global catalog. Having to enter accounts\username and the password every time you start Outlook is really annoying, seems to be a side effect of forcing Basic Authentication, any hack around this? Don't know if this is just a Microsoft problem, but is there any way to add a user to all email folders in a mailbox?, seems like I have to add them one at a time for them to appear automatically. Is there a way to connect phones etc to the exchange server?

Hi, I'm trying to generate a healthy discussion about broadband suppliers for EMBC area, with a view of helping schools to make an informed decision about whether to stay with EMBC or not. This is not with the view of EMBC "bashing", but rather to see what is best for any of us, should we decide to move. We are are a Derbyshire School. Our Head has asked me to check out the alternatives to EMBC to see whether there was any pricing / reliability benefits in staying / moving away. Admittedly, pricing appears to be in a state of flux at the moment, with no real clear details. The caveat is how many schools stay with the LEA / EMBC will affect the pricing for good or bad. We have had, like a number of schools, had a flyer from RM and the pricing for us would be £10,000 p.a. over a 3 year contract - not bad on face value. The Head and myself are not very keen RM fans though - through different experiences! However, it appears that they use Virgin (who made an abysmal showing at the Pride Park Derbyshire EMBC meeting last month). However, it still could be good, though I wouldn't be keen on their email / filtering options. But then there is the thought about staying with the EMBC consortium so as to support lesser financially capable schools i.e. primaries. At the end of the day, we need to make the best use of the money (not necesarily the cheapest for cheap sake - but then not too expensive) we have to utilize a reliable service and what's best for the school. So, folks, what do you think...

Hi We installed Wordpress via Fantastico on the cpanel and all of the links seem to be pointing to the root not the ohisp address and therefore not working. As we wanted the site to be viweable by the Head teacher before it went live we are a bit stuck. What's the next step please. OPENHIVEisp

We have imaged a single laptop with a clean copy of Windows (7 Enterprise), fitted it with a webcam and installed the Polycom PVX client software (v8.0.4-4035) with the idea of creating a relatively portable yet simple bit of kit that teachers can use around school to VC with small groups of students or even individually. The first "live" trial of this is planned to be next week with a school in Italy with whom we have an exchange programme going. Our Eco-coordinator wants to use it in the spring as part of something to do with Tulips too. Anyway, I have this laptop set up with an IP address in the range assigned to the school for VC kit (10.4.x.240), I've created our E.164 number in the correct format and given ourselves a H.323 alias that includes the schools DFES number - all as per the Video Conferencing documents in the EMBC document library. The Polycom software registers with the EMBC gatekeeper fine - but for some perculiar reason I am unable to fathom out, the "call" button remains greyed out and unavailable so I am unable to make calls using either IP or E.164 addresses. I can put anything I like in the address-to-call box, but the button remains grey and unclickable. Everything else appears to work fine - I'm guessing I am missing some crucial (undocumented!) final step that will get this working. And it will probably be something really stupidly obvious too. Although we are registered on the JVCS booking system, I am gathering we don’t need to use this for ad-hoc point-to-point calls within the EMBC network although I admit the information on the EMBC portal and JVCS booking site seems woefully inadequate for a “newbie” like myself - for instance, the JVCS guides talk about venues, guests and so on, but nothing simple like how you connect into a running conference in the first place. Does anyone use the polycom client via EMBC or have any suggestions for things I could try? I don't mind admitting I'm completely new to this video conferencing lark and have spent an afternoon not getting very far with this so any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! Jim

I'm looking to get a professional guy in to assess our security. The router and ISA server has not been touched since the system was put in place. I would like to make it more secure because I don't beleive we have any DMZ in place. I figured the router could have a 192. ip to the ISA and then everything the otherside of the ISA would use the 10. range. Is this correct? As it is, the router is a 10.x.x.1 but im not sure if we are allowed to touch it? It was all configured by EMBC at the time. We have no backup if the router goes down. I've started a CCNA course and understand most of it, but do not feel confident touching live equipment. Would EMBC/synetix be responsible or is that how most schools are setup? Please advice me on what direction I should take? Kind Regards Techyphil

Ok folks A quick heads up for everyone. This will come out in the Schools Factsheet and I will also try and send out a bulk email to everyone (if I have your details from the completed questionnaires) but please pass this on to as many people as you can. Booking details are on the schools factsheet. Friday 15th Feb, 1-3pm, Learning Discovery Centre, Northampton. IT Managers' Meeting. Hi, We are having problems at the moment where by the EMBC have blocked iGoogle but some of the students have already been on the site prior to the blocking. This means that when they goto google.co.uk the browser/google redirects them to their iGoogle page which is blocked. We have gone through deleting all cookies etc but this has still not resolved the issue for some users. The only thing that seems to work is to do a browser reset or run IE in private mode which is our current work around. I have read threads about iGoogle but all of those seem to be about blocking it which the EMBC doesnt seem to have a problem with Any help would be great! Regards, Ben

Hi all, I'm looking at web filtering options (SW, Forefront, Bloxx, SmartCache2 plus a few others...) for emPSN contracts Nov 2012+ and would like to know if anti-malware scanning on web filtering is something that anyone uses and what are your reasons for/not having it? (be it cost, necessary or otherwise...) Just out of interest; does anyone know whether there is anti-malware scanning on the current EMBC Netsweeper filter? (I've found no references to the web threat management module in all of the docs from embc in the technical area. Waiting for Synetrix(Capita ITS) to get back to me.) Cheers Rob

I'm currently looking at moving our website over to WordPress. I've setup a test site, but can't work out how to setup permalinks. I've found the setting in Wordpress admin, but every setting except /?p=N sends me to a 404 page. I'm guessing it's a IIS issue, but I can't see what option I need to change, either in WordPress or Plesk. Anyone found a way of getting this to work on EMBC?
