Hi Apologies if this is in the wrong place. Recently we've found that students have been accessing a Minecraft port called Eaglercraft (https://eaglercaft.com), we've blocked all links to it online but have found out that all the students need is a HTML file downloaded from the site to be able run the entire thing in a browser offline. Does anyone have any idea how we could go about blocking this file? My go-to was Applocker but as this file isn't technically an executable file Applocker doesn't detect it and so we can't block its hash. Thanks in advance

We have set up a Google Apps account for our school, and are planning on making use of the email app. Historically, all external email is blocked on our firewall and by the Local Authority. However we will need to loosen these restrictions to allow https://mail.google.com However we would like the ability to still block non-school related Gmail accounts. Is this possible? You can specify a custom URL for users to access the Google Apps email - e.g. https://mail.domain.com However when users browse to this URL, they are redirected to the URL https://mail.google.com/mail/?shva=1#inbox which doesn't include any references to the domain. I have tried logging in with a standard gmail account, and it also redirects you to the same URL. Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi Guys, new problem. We have Kaspersky security 8 across the school computers, however the antivirus has added ImperoClient and Impero Winlogon Application to the 'Untrusted' list. How can I move them to the Trusted list? Thanks

Attempting to block the C Drive to students, but push OneDrive as a default. The issue is that when blocking the C drive, OneDrive also becomes blocked. there has also been no success when trying to hide the C drive, either through the GPO 'Hide these specified drives in My Computer' or through the Registry edit of 'NoDrives' (value: 4). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am optimistically creating September's TT for Y7-13 school. When building and scheduling option blocks for Y11 Nova-T is picking up the Y10 Option blocks. The model is correct and the classes/staff are correct for Y11 yet the label is Y10 . Slightly concerned if I progress I'm going to get a nasty shock a little further through the process. Has anyone else experienced this? We certainly haven't. Any advice? Many thanks

Hi All, We are going to be rolling out chrome to the school, we are looking for a method to disable the ability to go into the "Settings" panel within chrome Any Ideas ? Regards Will

Hi all, Using Windows XP and Server 2003 Im at a bit of a loss and struggling to sort an issue out, wondering if anyone can help. We use GPO to configure by user the Internet Explorer proxy settings, this of course works a treat! However some of the lovely children have found out that if you login to the system and while the machine is loading your preferences pull out the network cable it give you complete access to the local machine once loaded and the cable put back in!!! We have 2 proxy servers one using the local authorities on minimal filtering and the other an internal censornet proxy, both work well together when polices are applied but by Default the MACHINE picks up on the local authorities and gives the kids access to more than they should get when it gets this local account. Is there a way network wide I can set the proxy server to the internal one via the machine not user? but this also must allow me to change it when I logon temporarily should I need access to more sites? Thanks hope ive explained this ok! Steve

Hi, we're in the process of switching from a Sophos box to Forefront for website restrictions etc. The thing I like about the Sophos box is that you can submit a request to have the site unblocked there and then, it sends the URL and username. I cannot figure out how to get this kind of feature with Forefront, have anyone else done it? Thanks.

Hi, We are having problems at the moment where by the EMBC have blocked iGoogle but some of the students have already been on the site prior to the blocking. This means that when they goto google.co.uk the browser/google redirects them to their iGoogle page which is blocked. We have gone through deleting all cookies etc but this has still not resolved the issue for some users. The only thing that seems to work is to do a browser reset or run IE in private mode which is our current work around. I have read threads about iGoogle but all of those seem to be about blocking it which the EMBC doesnt seem to have a problem with Any help would be great! Regards, Ben

Does anyone have a suggestion for .exe files on a windows 2003 domain. The kids are bringing in proxy anonymizers on them and i'm finding it hard to keep up with new ones! Our usb drives can map to random drive letters so it their a way of just blocking ALL exe files unless its from drives I specify for students! Thanks All!

Linkwall, anyone use or heard of it? http://www.connectotel.com/linkwall I'm getting tired of getting moaned at by lecturers because students are going to proxy sites to get access to social networking sites.

Hi, Edit: removed initial pointless request I now can see wouldn't help at all! Details if anyone can help, regarding SPF records and email blocking: We're in the process of moving away from SWGfL, our cease date is the end of the month. Before then, we decided to move our domain name hosting away from SWGfL which itself went just fine. This all of a sudden, however left us with emails to our school not working (we use an onsite exchange 2010 server using a smarthost point to SWGfL's smarthost server). A bounce back would be generated from within SWGfL saying that the email could not be routed correctly. I assume SWGfL had deleted the DNS info and therefore couldn't route correctly anymore. Therefore we decided to move away from SWGfL's smarthost system and set exchange to send directly to MX records using the destination email address domain. This worked generally, except for emails to SWGfL hosted email, but easymail appears to be unaffected strangely. We're now getting the following bounce error: Relaying denied. IP name lookup failed [81.168.28.62] The IP address is the outgoing IP through which our exchange server is sending the SMTP traffic, and the MX record for our domains points to this IP. Doing some research (so be aware I know very little about what I'm talking about now!), it appears we need an appropriate SPF record, so we change the one which has SWGfL info to be: v=spf1 a mx ip4:81.168.28.62 ~all But still it doesn't seem to work. We have waited 24 hours replication time, to no avail. I think I might need to get the domain host to setup a PTR record for the IP address, which I have asked them, but I thought I'd also ask the collective wisdom of edugeek for help too. Any pointers? Many many many thanks in advance. Meldrew PS. Just looking in the exchange outgoing queue, I'm seeing quite a few emails unable to be sent, so I think its not just SWGfL blocking us - its anyone that does checks on incoming SMTP traffic in the same way... Help!

I was asked by a principle at a school to host a minecraft server for the students to play together, the only problem is we do not want the students to be able to connect to external servers but minecraft requires Internet access to login and play on the server I set up. Is there a way to block minecraft accessing the external servers but not minecraft login services? Thanks

Here's one for you boys and girls and please, please help me because it's driving me mad! A long time ago i set up an Access Rule in our ISA server (2004) to ban the "repeat offenders" but allow them access to certain sites listed on our home page. Almost like a small intranet if you like. All was fine untill our website hosts (moonfruit) started running on a Content Delivery Network, i'm not sure if the issue is caused by this as we don't have an exact start date on the problem. Just seemed to start happening at roughly the same time. Now the kids can't see the home page which is flash 10 based it just comes up with a white page and the phishing filter comes up with a cross. I have information from the hosts and have added every possible combination of our URL and the ones they use as well as plenty of flash file extentions; none of that worked. I added myself into the repeat offenders list (admin level of access) and the site still wouldn't show anything. However i then installed IE8 and i was able to see the site but a test with students account came up negative so i changed my membership status so i had the same level as the kids and i couldn't access it either. I'm 99% sure it is to do with the content rather then anything else as other sites in this access rule that rely a lot on flash don't work properly e.g. nike.com and adidas.com. They show the content but links don't work etc. I'm so confused and i feel like i'm chaising my tale. Can anyone point me in a general direction to get me started or if anyone else has had this issue or similar and managed to sort it out then tell me how. Willing to give as much info as it takes to get this bug off my back so ask away. Much love, peace. Snuggle Tech
