This is slightly embarrassing. Some time ago we installed a plug-in for Powerpoint which enable the user to easily insert a Flash movie into their presentation. Unfortunately, coz I'm thick, I've completely forgotten what it's called and where I got it from so I was wondering if you guys could help. The only info I can give you is a screenshot of how the plug-in appears in the Insert menu. If anyone recognises the icon or knows instantly what I'm talking about, it would be appreciated. Next time, I'll take note of what I install.

Hi, I've got lots of staff and student computers with flash 9 that now needs updating to flash 10 because lot of websites moan about it. All staff and student users are non-admins. I've tried to do this in the past with an MSI, but it caused me an even bigger problem, I ended up with numerous versions installed and had to visit lots of computers to fix the conflict. I'm aware of the flash uninstaller and if I update a computer manually, I uninstall all previous versions then update with the newest version. I'd like to automate this with a logon or startup script (we use kixscript usually). So that: It checks if the version of flash is current It it is it does nothing. If not it first runs the uninstaller to remove old versions. Then installs the current version (With all of this invisible to the users) Does anyone have a script that does this or is there a better way? Why has a company as big as Adobe not got a better way of managing flash??? If only I could manage it with something like WSUS or EPO. Thanks,

Hey guys Weird problem with websites. Our students are creating a site with embedded flash videos, when they preview them prior to uploading to our webserver the videos do not play. As soon as the site is uploaded they play fine. I guess its something to do with the file URL when they open the page (e.g. file://///shared/Drive_R/Dreamweaver%20Training/Sample%20Website/about.html). It used to work with a previous version of Flash player, and its only since installing the latest version it has stopped working. Has anyone come across this before?

This is going to be quite specific. I have a lovely flash animation that someone has made for me that does a sweep through a football line up. It allows me to pass the variables of the players to it via a single url using the pipe character to separate the names. I'm looking for a php script that can populate a database with the players for each years football teams in the positions (2 each for years 7,8 and 9 and general u13 u16 etc) and one that will generate the correct url for the flash depending on a variable passed to it (that corresponds to the team needed) via it's url. Wow that all sounds a little complicated but I'm hopeful that someone can help me with this flash url needs the following thetitle=Team Name thedate=A Date theplayers=RightForward|LeftForward|LeftMid|CenLeftMid|...etc then Subs

Hi all, As part of a reward system, I'm looking to (preferably) source or (if needed) purchase some educational games for our students. Specifically I'm looking for KS3, 4 and 5 especially in Numeracy and Literacy. They would need to be fully enclosed within the .SWF file (i.e. no linked dictionaries) as the VLE's Flash embedding capabilities aren't the greatest. Does anyone know where I might be able to find such resources? I've done a few scans on Google but the amount of malware websites returned somewhat frightens me! Thanks in advance,

Hi, I've just begun working at a school that has purchased a class set of iPads, some of the Ed tools they'd like to use are on Flash websites, these websites work OK with Puffinbrowser (at home) but Puffinbrowser doesn't work through the LEA's firewall & web-filtering and the LEA don't look like doing anything about it. My idea is to put something like a VNC app on the iPad which opens a session on a Linux box where they can view the flash websites. Ideally the app would open a session and auto open firefox and not let them view anything else, has anyone tried anything like this? I'm also assuming the Linux box would need to be quite high spec if 15+ pupils are going to open a session simultaneously? Many thanks

Hello, I have got a odd problem. When any of our users double click on a FLA file to edit it in Flash Pro CS6, Flash will load without any issues but you then have to go in to open and open the file again. When looking in the registry the default open command is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Flash CS6\flash.exe" "%1", I think that this is right. We are running Adobe CS6 on Windows 7 SP1. I'm a little lost as to what to actually try.

Hi All, Been a while since I posted here..... I have an HP SAS LTO 4 drive, that I've taken out of an autoloader (it is basically the same as a standalone drive but with no fascia on the front). It currently has firmware on it that basically makes it think it is in an autloader. I've downloaded the firmware for the standalone version becuase I'm convinced they are the same drive, just with different firmware on them, but the HP Tape Tools software isn't letting me flash with the standalone firmware. Anyone know of any ways around this, to make the drive / tape tools think it can accept the standalone firmware? Thanks very much

Help! Windows 7 Ent x64, IE9, Adobe Flash Player v11.2 64-bit We can’t open .swf files in IE9. Flash content on websites works perfectly well, but not .swf files from the local hard drive. I’ve tried changing the file association to the Flash Player executable, but can’t find it. Where is it? A lot of Googling hasn’t found a definite answer, though some say that Firefox will work. I haven’t tried Firefox to open Flash files, as it’ll just make things more complex for the users. Has anyone got .swf files to open on 64-bit Windows? Thanks.

Hi, I have installed SCUP 2011 for Adobe updates and its working pretty well except... The new Adobe Flash updates have become expired and I don't know how to get them to deploy now... Is it possible? Thanks!

Hi we have had an unusual amount of reports of USB drives failing over the last few weeks - 8 or so. Some of these drives are flash memory, others are portable HDs but I was wondering if there could be a connection? My gut feeling is that staff are just not looking after them. All staff are using laptops of differing models, running Windows 7 enterprise. The usb media is their own and so is likely to be all different types. Failures include Windows asking to Format the drive when plugged in, or just not seeing the drive at all. Any thoughts/ideas? Thanks Mark

Normally I would consider such a statment harracy and punishable severely but recent events have swayed my viewpoint a little. The universal truth seems to be that developers are lazy, preffering to do the least possible to get a system working. This is even worse in an educational environment where multiplatform means using as many abstraction layers as it takes to get the job done without writing another line of code. Most of the education resource type apps here are written in flash and packaged in an executable player, this system I had thought was rather nasty as it fell back to flash of all things but TBH actually ended up working quite well, Windows and Mac support with no need to install and simple to just run off a file share. Functionally this idea is actually fine and its just my code snobbery (along with my dislike of Flash) that caused my issues with it. Now one day we get a new testing app (universally lauded for its educational outcomes . . . . Danger, Danger Will Robinson) which is multiplatform but instead of running flash behind the scenes it uses python and OpenGL. Yay I thought, real code in an almost respectable language and using OpenGL it must be flashy... Wrong! The app itself is totally unremarkable visually but does rely heavily on OpenGL acceleration to make the buttons pulse slowly in the background. Not only that but it cannot use an existing network connection context insisting on opening a new one which is fine in a domain environment but in this instance makes it unusable on certain stations (standalone with mapped drives and stored credentials). Down to the problem, OpenGL 2.0 is not too new but is not supported over RDP, this means that this app can't run over RDP, no terminal server, no Multipoint server and all to make the buttons pulse. The issues actually lie deeper within the app as I found a nice little library that runs OpenGL 2.0 in software ( Mesa Home Page ) which I compiled and which works on Server 2008 R2 (all be it slowly). Yay I thought, a way around the problem, wrong again, software that is closer to the hardware and helpfully uses unsupported calls directly to it have a nasty tendancy to kill the process meaning that this app despite its better underpinnings comes out as a total looser when it comes down to portability. In conclusion, in some instances, OpenGL is worse than Flash for portability and usability. I am still in shock. EDIT: As it may be of use to someone else I have attached a ZIP with the three DLLs to this post. The idea is to just drop them in the same folder as the EXE of the unhappy program and it will override the windows OpenGL libraries for this program. Turned out to be helpful here where the new intel chips/drivers did not support OpenGL properly or in a way that some older software could detect. GLU32.zip

Hi, Does anyone know some free software for converting power point files to flash? I would like the conversion to keep all the animation effects, not make static images. I've tested one called ispring that does this, however it's pricey and I’m hoping there’s a free tool out there that can do it for me. (Maybe I’m too hopeful) Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

Hello Everyone - I am managing a couple of labs that contain close to 300 machines. All of the machines are loaded with Windows 7 Enterprise. We push Windows updates using SCCM and I am experimenting with SCUP for Adobe (Reader, Flash, etc.) updates. I wanted to see what you guys use to update Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash, Java, iTunes, QuickTime and Safari? Thanks a bunch! Nermin

If only, some code that cleans out failed/old installs from the registry (only particular versions but more can be easily added) to get the MSI installers going again: function KillFromRegistry (strRegistryKey, strDefault, DecVersion ) Dim WSHShell, value On Error Resume Next Set WSHShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell") value = WSHShell.RegRead( strRegistryKey & "\Version" ) if err.number <> 0 then KillFromRegistry = strDefault 'wscript.echo "X Not Found: Targeted Version: " & DecVersion & " at " & strRegistryKey else KillFromRegistry = value if value = DecVersion then 'wscript.echo "> Found: Targeted Version: " & DecVersion & " at " & strRegistryKey KillCMD = "REG DELETE " & strRegistryKey & " /f" WshShell.Run KillCMD , 0, true KillCMD2 = "REG DELETE HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Macromedia\FlashPlayer\SafeVersions /v 11.0 /f" WshShell.Run KillCMD2 , 0, true KillCMD3 = "REG DELETE HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Macromedia\FlashPlayerPlugin /v Version /f" WshShell.Run KillCMD3 , 0, true 'wscript.echo "- Deleted: Targeted Version: " & DecVersion & " at " & strRegistryKey end if end if set WSHShell = nothing end function str = KillFromRegistry("HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\6B6791246CED5AC449F10F66B3A3B247", "Fail", 184615014 ) str = KillFromRegistry("HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\698B6CF868F67594CAA170A757C5F480", "Fail", 167968951 ) str = KillFromRegistry("HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\087B87245BC6A734ABA6137C9FAF9B08", "Fail", 184615014 ) 'sch2 vars str = KillFromRegistry("HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\B90F3429913355A41818B9EC7C930197", "Fail Adobe Flash Player 11 Plugin (x64)", 184615014 ) str = KillFromRegistry("HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\0BB211F0D2097CA34FA05D411719C51E2, "Fail "Adobe Flash Player 11 ActiveX, 1184615014) str = KillFromRegistry("HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\FB1B1E535E8DF7B4F96D782D5E960451", "Fail Adobe Flash Player 11 Plugin", 184615014 ) There was a longer description but the forum ate it

Hi, I've just assigned an upgraded version of Flash (11) to our Software Distribution using group policy and the icon has a green arrow on it... do i leave the old package (10) on there? Or will it still upgrade / install on new machines if i remove it?
