I know this is probably a hardware issue, but students home drives fail to map on MSI motherboards. we have other boards with the exact same on board Realtek Nic with the same drivers, and they pick up the home drives fine. we've tried swapping the 2 different PC's around to eliminate an issue with the switches or cabling but the MSI boards still fail to map the home drives.

Hi Guys, Does anyone know if Sherston still exist? There website still exists, however I have had no response from their support email address, and the number for support redirects to a third party company who don't have anything to do with Sherston anymore. I need to get MSI packages for all of their titles, we provide IT support for multiple primary schools, and during the re-imaging in the summer, I would like to have the proper MSI files available instead of manually installing via CD's. I have already checked the CD's we have, they don't have MSI packages on them. Best regards James

Hi geekers, Please, as a last resort, I am appealing to you for help. having spectacularly failed to deploy Java 5.0.52 2 weeks ago for a controlled assessment for AQA, I had to do the suite manually with less than an hour to sort it! i have read and read over the last 6 months and have yet to have a definitive way to sort Java, (flash+reader too), but mainly java gives me the stress. Last time I tried this, The offline installer msi that i grabbed from the %appdata%locallow folder appeared to deploy on computerstartup as I have verbose mode enable and could see it installing. However, when going into control panel to check the version, Java is completely destroyed saying that there is no version at all; Java icon is replaced with the unknown file icon... the really annoying thing is that this damned online test (the same one that worked with .52 three weeks ago was now demanding v.55!!!! Please could someone give me a good guide? Everyone goes on about simply deploying Java as the msi but why EVERYTIME I try this, it NEVER works? DO I need to uninstall every java on every machine to deploy this way and if so, how can i easily do it? I have spent enough hours on this and am sure there must be many ways you guys never have to worry about it like this. Please help me over this once and for all........ If it the last thing I do, I want it done and done right :-/

So I kinda have it working, but not 100%. I can get it to deploy and install, but the end user can go into the configuration and close down the server without prompting for a password. I am installing the latest msi version via gpo and am using the registry area of gpo to set the right keys. I tried to push it down via batch file with the msi switches but was having no luck, that's why I went this route. At least it's installing this way...just not configured properly. One thing that seemed odd, is that I could only find registry keys under HKLM/Software/TightVNC. I read somewhere else about stuff being under the Wow6432Node but there's nothing there. I also read there should be an ORL key, but I can't find that either. Any suggestions/ideas? EDIT: Nevermind, not sure what was going on, but I had it install on another computer and it worked fine. I think this was was wonky because it was the one I've been messing with.

Has anyone cracked updating Adobe Acrobat (not Reader- the Professional version) across a network? We have just had a virus sneak in via a PDF exploit which our AV seems to have caught but not quickly enough to avoid an infection on the PC in question. I can deploy the latest Adobe Acrobat Reader via MSI (in fact I did this as a matter of routine at my last school) which will upgrade any version from seven or above, but this still leaves a gaping security hole in the shape of Acrobat Professional. AFAICT you have to visit each machine and update them individually, and then again each time you re-image, plus the updates are incremental so we'll have to sweep four times. I'd be grateful if anyone could contribute some suggestions before I stop gibbering.

Hi, I've got lots of staff and student computers with flash 9 that now needs updating to flash 10 because lot of websites moan about it. All staff and student users are non-admins. I've tried to do this in the past with an MSI, but it caused me an even bigger problem, I ended up with numerous versions installed and had to visit lots of computers to fix the conflict. I'm aware of the flash uninstaller and if I update a computer manually, I uninstall all previous versions then update with the newest version. I'd like to automate this with a logon or startup script (we use kixscript usually). So that: It checks if the version of flash is current It it is it does nothing. If not it first runs the uninstaller to remove old versions. Then installs the current version (With all of this invisible to the users) Does anyone have a script that does this or is there a better way? Why has a company as big as Adobe not got a better way of managing flash??? If only I could manage it with something like WSUS or EPO. Thanks,

Hello all, I'm have a fair few issues regarding WMM 6.0 (vista version) we are needing movie maker in our school environment (windows 7 machines) but our current 2.6 WMM does not save the final project We are trying to upgrade to 6.0 as it 'seems' to work much better, but there seems to be no MSI and i have spent far too long now trying to make it work, so has anyone had this issue ? or know of an MSI? And just to let you know we tried windows live essential WMM and it does not work. Apparently our new systems do not meet the required specification! Thanks, Sam Brooks

It appears this week is technology package building week So I've read the SolidWorks 2008 install guide that includes all the notes on building it for CC3, only it still doesn't quite work. I have got to the point where it installs fine but isn't combining the mst with the msi properly so the licence server info isn't included in the package. This means I'd have to go round each PC and add that information into the software manually (not happy). So i tried combining the mst and the msi with orca (has worked before) this left me with a duff msi that wouldn't install. so here's my plee, has anyone got around this. Cheers and Right on!

You will then you get a email with a limited download page. Download the EXE (and the shared resource files if needed - see stage 4 for info about install) STAGE 2: Extract the MSI from the EXE. To do this you have several options: Use a extrator tool (free): Go to http://www.edugeek.net/forums/showthread.php?t=7136 once you have installed the program right-click the EXE and click "Uniextract". Then select the second option and follow the onscreen messages. If you do not want to use this app you can manually obtain the MSI by doing one following: 1. Running the setup.exe with /a command line switch. It'll ask you where to put the files. It'll then extract the contents of the wrapped MSI where ever you told it to. 2. Run the setup.exe and stay at the first screen. With the installer still running in the background, check the content of C:\WINDOWS\Installer (in some environments it ends up in your %TEMP% folder instead) You should see the msi and related files unpacked there. 3. Run the exe and wait to the first "next" button dialogue appears. Then browse to YOUR temp folder under: c:\documents and settings\{username}\local settings\temp STAGE 3: Run you MSI editor (orca for example) and create a transform with the following properties set in the "Properties" table (this list will be revised ad-hock): COMPANYNAME = {your company name} PIDKEY = {the serial for version 2 or 3 WITHOUT "-" or spaces} RebootYesNo = No ALLUSERS = 2 {this installs in per-machine mode not per-user} ACTIVSTUDIO3 = {UNC OF SHARED RESOURCES DIRECTORY} NOTE: The Shared Resources directory must be a unc as using a mapped drive causes a error (as the installing account SYSTEM does not have the mapped drive. You can change this though later or I can hack out the check if you need it. STAGE 4: Shared resources setup - optional NOTE: I have not finished testing this theory yet. Once you have your activestudio MSI setup, install it on the client. Now the resource files you downloaded should have association with a app. Double click each overriding any current files. Do not re-index any area until you are adding the last file in the series. You MUST re-index to get the resources to work (I believe) but I would wait till all the resources are added before doing it. Staff do not need write access for this area so far as I have tested but if you allow them then they can add there own resources. More info will follow... STAGE 5: Deploy Deploy the MSI with the transform as per your usual methods. Finished... Known Issues: None so far... ACTIVprimary 3.0.57 Guide: Coming soon, working on some issues it has. You can use the guide above except instead of: ACTIVSTUDIO3 = {UNC OF SHARED RESOURCES DIRECTORY} Use: ACTIVPRIMARY3 = {UNC OF SHARED RESOURCES DIRECTORY} IMPORTANT NOTE: Currently investigating a issue with using the same resources directory as ACTIVEstudio. ACTIVstudio so far in my testing can use ACTIVprimary resources but ACTIVstudio resources seem to break ACTIVprimary (when imported with studio). Permission settings: I will write some basic steps/info about permissions and/or link to knowledge base articles on Promethean in the future. FYI: I will edit this post if changes are needed and post a "BUMP" message to indicate it has changed. PM or post feedback/issues to me. Also I am in the process of checking the other EXE/MSI's (including the driver MSI and the Junior edition) incase they need modifications. This post shall have those guides if needed in the future. Hi, I was asked to create MSI package for application created in .NET framework 3.5. Requirement included license key validation and business rules. Shall I use Visual studio 2010 to develop MSI packages. I know very basic on crating MSI package , but not experience on crating packages for enterprise application. I was assigned a project to create packages for the training application developed for the very larger organization having clients all over the world but in my project there is no technical people to guide me. I understand lot tools available in the market, I proposed Visual studio installer project 2010 (Visual studio 2010) since I am a .NET back ground. we can achieve creating MSI package using VS 2010 with incorporating the license key validation and business rules? . I am very much confusing for the tool selection. Kindly help on this.. Thank you very much..

Does anyone have a clue as to how I can install Adobe Creative Suite 3 over a network silently? Ive spent ages trying to do this and i'm about to give up! I really dont want to have to install this as part of are image but maybe forced to! HELP Thanks Steve

Hi All, Ok quick question, Ive been trying now for about a week to deploy Office Pro Plus Via MSI. Having spent nearly 2 days trying to find out how to get the software installed using the correct MSI off the CD () I now have office install! Hurray! However having tested the application it needs the CD key inserting on each machine, this just won't do! I contacted a colleague of mine at another school and he tells me I need to edit the config.xml file and sent me a very useful link: Config.xml file in the 2007 Office system Now i've edited this file inserting the CD key and hoped it would all be sorted, however it still asks for the key! The original MSI is copied from the CD (the whole cd contents) and placed in a shared area on are server (the cd as it came). The MSI is a file called ProPlusWW.msi ( this took me a while to find as theres several MSI's on the disk) the config.xml file sits in the same folder as the MSI, Ive also tried i copy the config.xml file to the root setup folder! has anyone got any ideas why this wouldn't be picking up its settings from this file!! I will be happy to paste in the file if anyone needs to see it minus the key of course!! Thanks

Does anyone have any experience of deploying Quicktime Professional over a network, I need to send it out to around 300 machines and don't really want to include it on the ghost? Obviously there is the issue of having a license key to put in on all the machines! Steve

I have the MSI and can install it using /qb however I can't seem to find any information on specifying the User Name and Registered organization properties? Hello, Our school has recently acquired a lot of Hue Camera's and we need to push the Hue Camera software out over our network, but there seems to be no MSI for it, i was wondering if anyone has dealt with it before and if so, have you got an MSI for it? We would like to use the original software with it as VLC 'Capture Device' makes the camera slow and laggy. Thanks, SamBrooks
