We're deploying iPad devices to teachers and we're using wireless casting to Promethean TVs, CTOUCH TVs etc. One issue I have ran into is that on the i3Connect devices, Miracast and wireless sharing options don't show up properly. I know this is a wireless issue, as when I change the wireless on the tablet and TV to my hotspot, they recognise each other straight away and I can connect. If I swap back to the onsite WiFi, it can't find it again. Does anyone know or had experience with an issue like this? And how we can go about unblocking this connection through Sophos so it works on the standard WiFi?

Hi all Since the Summer Holidays, I've come back and noticed that 6 of our promethean boards are suddenly no longer working. These are the key points. - All the connections show up in Device Manager, but show a yellow warning sign. Have tried updating drivers. - None of the connections can be found in ActivDriver - All the boards use a serial to USB adapter - Power is definitely being supplied to the board and adapter I fear that a Windows 10 update over the summer has knocked the drivers out, as it has happened to 6 simultaneously... Has this happened to anybody else? Any tips or advice?

Hi all, My client has been using Activinspire as their main software for their classes. We are now looking to replace their IWBs. My question is ActivInspire compatible with all brands of IWBs? or is the software specific to Promethean boards. Main concern are the IWB pens and if they will function on that software. Many thanks

Unable to get Activpen working and BSOD with driver
vdao posted a topic in Promethean Direct Support
Hi, We have many Activboards 78" 300 series, all of them are receiving BSOD at various times with the code being "IRQL not less or equal", I have realised it was the activ driver that was causing the issue. In addition this has caused my pen to not be recognised by the board Currently all of my boards are stuck on Version 8.04 build 0 or 4. I am unable upgrade the version to the recommend v8.10. Here are some forums links that I have followed but found no luck. Windows 10 update 1903 - ActivInspire crashing - solution (axiedu.com) My Windows 10 computer crashes when I connect my Promethean device (prometheanworld.com) Firmware Updating – Promethean Community (prometheanworld.com) Any assistance with this would be great because this is driving me up the wall. There does not seem to be a clear fix to this. Many thanks Viet -

I never cease to be underwhelmed with the image quality of promethean projectors, from the old orange badged Sanyo's through to the PRM35's PRM30's. Even the set up of the image from the menu is overly clunky. I've been replacing them with NEC or SONY short throw projectors you need to make some simple mods to the bracket or get an off the shelf one such as RA Technologies adapted but it's worth it - the difference is like night and day.

Hi, With the dawn of new laptops the serial connection has disappeared. Nowhere to be seen. Gone. This has forced me, with some of our older Activboards, to buy USB to Serial adapters to get the boards to work with the new technology. A new problem has arisen in the form of Windows 7 where some of the boards will just stop working and a reboot is needed to get them going again. Teachers are getting annoyed and all I can do is advise them to go into the taskbar, click the 'settings' on the activ driver and click find or connect in the hope it will work again. I tried installing the latest activ drivers a while back and had even more problems with the boards just not working at all. ANY HELP APPRECIATED!!!! Jay xxx

I was just in the process of running a manual install of ActivInspire when I noticed something in the license agreement: Now, it's not particularly clear on whether you can upgrade for free from AS3, although that is somewhat implied by the way you get to the download page. As I understood it with AS3, you could originally install it on 5 PCs per Promethean IWB. At some point that was relaxed to allow free use within school and for preparation at home, as long as it was never used to display on just a projection screen or on a non-promethean IWB. The above agreement seems to suggest that if you get the software bundled with an IWB, you can only install it on the PC it's connected to. What's worse, if you get the software bundled with a set of ActivExpressions (costing you about £1850) you can only use the software with one IWB... which presumably you were already licensed to use the software with anyway?! That sentence is the one which is giving me reason to wonder whether we are licensed to use Inspire on our old Promethean boards. If the licensing is indeed free-and-easy as we were lead to believe at BETT, then can someone from Promethean: a) make it clear on here b) make it much clearer in the license agreement in the installer, because a) won't stand up in court! To be honest our teachers are quite happy with AS3 for the most part - it's only the ones who want to use our new ActivExpression sets who will go bananas if they have have to use them in specific rooms.

All This has probably been asked already, but I couldn't find it looking through the various posts on here. The school is thinking of deploying Ipad's to all staff, as you can imagine the staff all very pleased with this. However, there is a problem that prevents this from happening and as yet I haven't seen a device/docking station that gets round this. The problem is the iPad only has one port, so you can either connect a USB device or a VGA or what ever, but not two devices at the same. For example, the school uses Promethean Boards which require a USB connection to the PC/Mac and then you need a VGA/DVI connection for the projector. Has anyone seen an old fashioned port replicator that will solve my problems??

Hi, I have a maths teacher who uses his Promethean Activboard all the time, but finds he often needs to recalibrate during the day, particularly after a reboot. Although the accuracy will drift off during normal use as well. Also, even after calibration the mouse pointer matches up with the pen-tip when he uses the left-side of the board, but is about a centimetre off at the right-hand-side of the board. I have never debugged one of these boards before so any advice or ideas would be welcome. He's using Win XP. -- Simon

This is now in the Wiki @ http://www.edugeek.net/wiki/index.php/ACTIVstudio_Professional_-_GPO ACTIVstudio Professional 3.0.73 Guide: STAGE 1: Goto http://www.prometheanworld.com/uk/server/show/nav.2785 and put in your serial number from version 2. You will then you get a email with a limited download page. Download the EXE (and the shared resource files if needed - see stage 4 for info about install) STAGE 2: Extract the MSI from the EXE. To do this you have several options: Use a extrator tool (free): Go to http://www.edugeek.net/forums/showthread.php?t=7136 once you have installed the program right-click the EXE and click "Uniextract". Then select the second option and follow the onscreen messages. If you do not want to use this app you can manually obtain the MSI by doing one following: 1. Running the setup.exe with /a command line switch. It'll ask you where to put the files. It'll then extract the contents of the wrapped MSI where ever you told it to. 2. Run the setup.exe and stay at the first screen. With the installer still running in the background, check the content of C:\WINDOWS\Installer (in some environments it ends up in your %TEMP% folder instead) You should see the msi and related files unpacked there. 3. Run the exe and wait to the first "next" button dialogue appears. Then browse to YOUR temp folder under: c:\documents and settings\{username}\local settings\temp STAGE 3: Run you MSI editor (orca for example) and create a transform with the following properties set in the "Properties" table (this list will be revised ad-hock): COMPANYNAME = {your company name} PIDKEY = {the serial for version 2 or 3 WITHOUT "-" or spaces} RebootYesNo = No ALLUSERS = 2 {this installs in per-machine mode not per-user} ACTIVSTUDIO3 = {UNC OF SHARED RESOURCES DIRECTORY} NOTE: The Shared Resources directory must be a unc as using a mapped drive causes a error (as the installing account SYSTEM does not have the mapped drive. You can change this though later or I can hack out the check if you need it. STAGE 4: Shared resources setup - optional NOTE: I have not finished testing this theory yet. Once you have your activestudio MSI setup, install it on the client. Now the resource files you downloaded should have association with a app. Double click each overriding any current files. Do not re-index any area until you are adding the last file in the series. You MUST re-index to get the resources to work (I believe) but I would wait till all the resources are added before doing it. Staff do not need write access for this area so far as I have tested but if you allow them then they can add there own resources. More info will follow... STAGE 5: Deploy Deploy the MSI with the transform as per your usual methods. Finished... Known Issues: None so far... ACTIVprimary 3.0.57 Guide: Coming soon, working on some issues it has. You can use the guide above except instead of: ACTIVSTUDIO3 = {UNC OF SHARED RESOURCES DIRECTORY} Use: ACTIVPRIMARY3 = {UNC OF SHARED RESOURCES DIRECTORY} IMPORTANT NOTE: Currently investigating a issue with using the same resources directory as ACTIVEstudio. ACTIVstudio so far in my testing can use ACTIVprimary resources but ACTIVstudio resources seem to break ACTIVprimary (when imported with studio). Permission settings: I will write some basic steps/info about permissions and/or link to knowledge base articles on Promethean in the future. FYI: I will edit this post if changes are needed and post a "BUMP" message to indicate it has changed. PM or post feedback/issues to me. Also I am in the process of checking the other EXE/MSI's (including the driver MSI and the Junior edition) incase they need modifications. This post shall have those guides if needed in the future. Also you can find these instructions on Appdeploy.com Enjoy and good luck Remember to vote your results!

Hi everyone, Long time Google-searcher, first time poster. We're in need of some new IWBs to replace a faulty AP6 from 2018 (of course we get a breakdown just after the warranty expired!) with OPS-G and some new classrooms that have been split in half. It seems promethean have 3 models right now, the AP9, AP9 Premium, and the APLX. Our current quotes are for the AP9 but with the notably lower price on the APLX (over £1,000 less!) I'm wondering if it's any good, given the functionality seems similar to that of the AP6, especially once you add on the OPS-A to get Android. We're a primary school, so we don't need tons of special features as most of the time the IWBs are connected to a PC with ActivInspire, but having access to Google Play on the OPS-G allows for teachers to install games/YouTube/Netflix for wet play and parties, and with the AP9 series just saying "ActivPanel OS", it's unclear if they're running Android and can have GMS enabled through the Panel Management or if they aren't as smart as the Elements series were, with just the whiteboard/timer/spinner apps that are on the OPS-A anyway. The only issue when researching is that there's no public information that isn't either selling the product or advertising from Promethean. Has anyone used the APLX in their school and have opinions to share?

Does anyone know of any decent free IWB software that is not smart or Promethean? As someone who has moved schools a few times in the last 5 years I am getting a bit sick of the compatibility problems between Promethean and Smart as schools tend to have one and not the other. Law abiding schools (and rightly so) do not like buying licenses for two pieces of software and neither software seems to be able to open the others files perfectly. Re-making resources that you have already made is time consuming and frustrating. Powerpoint does not do all the things I want to do. If there was some free shareware that functions as a whiteboard tool with a decent write, draw and a drag and drop functions then that would solve my problems as schools would not be reluctant to install a free software. Anybody have any ideas?

Hi, I'm trying to install an Activote system on an RM CC3 network. I'm logging on as an administrator, and so far am able to register the deviced in the devices screen, this appears to save and is there every time you enter the devices menu. However, when you try to run a session it ignores any deviced being present and appears as if there are none. Also pointing the devices to a .udb doesn't seem to work - Activstudio says that there is no .udb file present even when browsing to the right folder. I have spoken to Promethean and they seem to this that it is to do with eother the hub or the users having read, write and modify access to: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Activ Software\Device Registration The entire of the C;\Documents and Settings folder is set to read only as default for all RM users. Does anyone know where I might be going wrong? Thanks, Laura:hand:

Hi, The school I manage currently is working with the old Activ Primary boards. I am attempting to get a replacement pen for it. Not sure on the model of the pen I am looking for, but I believe it to be the 'Activpen3'. From what I remember they were blue with orange/yellow rings around. Any ideas of where I am able to purchase one of these outdated pens?

We've inherited some ActivPanels and one of them has a damaged pen, the nib is missing. I'd like to get a replacement but there is no manufacturer or model number at all on the pen. Does anyone know whether we can just get any generic stylus, or does it have to be a Promethean one? I can't tell whether this old pen is a Promethean one or not and can't see anything like it online. Does anyone recognise it? Thank you.

Hi, To get Classflow Connect to work through Active Inspire you need to manually add the proxy settings to the application. Is anyone aware of a way around this? Or a way that we can do this during installation or after? Perhaps something in the registry? The issue we will have is that we will need to do this for 70 users, or have them do this on their own. So we would prefer to automate it if possible. Thanks

Hi there, We have a new Promethean Board that was installed last summer and the teacher is complaining about the displayed colours (obviously a projector issue rather than the board). I went to her room to check and she is quite right, the worst being that the colour red is just displayed as black on the board, green is brown. I have done factory reset on the projector and messed about with most of the obvious setting without any luck. Do you have any advice, the projected image also appears duller than the other boards fitted at the same time. I have messed with the brightness settings too.

Clearing out the stock room getting rid of unused kit. I have a quantity of Promethean Pens, some new by the looks of it. We have no use for these, so if any schools want them, you are welcome to come grab them all in one go from us if they will help you with some aging kit. This is to help out our school colleagues, not for someone to profit off. We are based in Bexleyheath.

Hi all, We are attempting to log a warranty call for a Promethean panel that is less than a year old but they keep asking for an Activcare Plus number. Apparently giving the serial of the board isn't enough. Does anyone know where we would find that info? Thanks Matt

Hi, Christmas is upon us but the new year brings a refresh to the screens we have in our classrooms. We are looking to install the Nickel 75" panels but would like to know the prices you have been quoted or are paying for these panels? If you would prefer to send this privately I totally understand. If you are not using Nickle panels what are you using, how much did they cost per unit and how do your staff find them. Thank you.

I have reported this to Promethean today but just thought id see if anyone else has experienced this issue. The backlights (im guessing thats what they are) are showing through the screen. I have added a picture so you know what i mean. Ive had it twice this week at 2 different clients, anyone seen this before?

Hi, I'm the techy at a three-form primary, and we have a Promethean board where the pen is significantly delayed. Particularly noticeable when drawing circles, or anything else that is round. This problem only emerged after updating the Win10, however we have 25 other classroom machines (all that were updated to Win10 at the same time) which have never had this problem. I have tried the following Standard restarts of both machine and board Disconnecting and reconnecting to machine Playing with different drivers (both from ActivDriver and Device Manager) I have tried installing just about every version of ActivDriver Carrying out standard Windows Updates It is also worth noting that the PC doesn't automatically pick up the connection, and you instead have to go into ActivDriver and click "Find" everytime you want it to connect. Any ideas?

So I always heard from teachers and such at the school I once went to about having to be careful with those interactive white board pens, because they're very expensive and such (seriously, how much do people pay for these things? I see Promethean pens for £12 a piece on one site). Well, in reality, you'd be shocked to see what's inside them, part of a little project I'm doing involving a standard pen from the guys you all know and...love(?) includes completely taking apart one of the things, so I thought I'd share my findings with you guys, someone's bound to find it interesting. I managed to get hold of a dead pen to experiment with, whether it's still dead when I'm finished with it is left to be discovered, might actually work when I'm done, that'd be pretty nice. Step 1: Removing that excess plastic tail: http://twitpic.com/show/thumb/2eeyek.jpg Maybe that's where most of the money is, in the excess plastic that only serves as a bit of comfort and to make the pen look a lot bigger than the innards? And you find this... http://twitpic.com/show/thumb/2eewpt.jpg Not much to it, I must say... Step B: A bit of plastic mutilation later and you find this bit under the other side of the ring, that red button is the barrel, as an FYI. Lots of lovely pink wire coil there, no doubt it's coated in pink stuff to scare people away, or perhaps to make it not move one inch unless you unravel it (and boy do you regret it...) http://twitpic.com/show/thumb/2eex4s.jpg Under the tape there seemed to be some sort of brown thing, it looked suspiciously like chocolate from my point of view, unfortunately the camera wasn't very good, so it's rather blurry. It wouldn't surprise me if it was chocolate though. http://twitpic.com/show/thumb/2eex8f.jpg The unravelling... http://twitpic.com/show/thumb/2eexch.jpg At this point, I'm starting to regret what I'd done. Moreso here. http://twitpic.com/show/thumb/2eexfm.jpg The remains of the shell: http://twitpic.com/show/thumb/2eexwc.jpg What was left (had to remove the barrel button to get it out of the shell, not that I need that button) http://twitpic.com/show/thumb/2eeyek.jpg And of course, the mess. http://twitpic.com/show/thumb/2eejuj.jpg I'll keep you guys posted as I work on this, I decided to take a break from untangling that horrible length of wire without breaking anything (either wire or the contact with the board, I'm not that proficient in soldering...). Hopefully I can get this into a glove, with the coil in the index finger of the glove (without cooking the finger, of course). But yeah, your highly expensive IWB Pens are essentially a coil of wire in a plastic shell, always nice to know isn't it?
