Hi, So, we have 50+ ipads in school and I need to: 1) Wipe them and re-format them 2) Log into Apple ID, Google and email 3) Download a few apps (Free ones) 4) Log into Google Drive App we are using Configurator and Meraki to manage them. I am just wondering if anyone knows if there is a way that I can use configurator to basicly log into all the accounts and download al lthe apps needed then just "re-image" it to the other ipads? This would also mean in the future they can be re-imaged when the kids have messed around with backgrounds/home screens/logins etc..

Hi All, having an issue with an iPad I'm hoping someone has a solution for. The device says 145mb of storage remaining, the breakdown says 10GB of the overall storage is used by Camera and Photos... Originally it said there was 0mb remaining, we've deleted all but 5 photos and freed up the 145mb... There's no way the photos are 2GB each - any ideas? Cheers

Basically, we are trying to invite users (apple ids) into Meraki VPP so that we can push out paid apps through meraki to ipads. We have setup our individual apple ids for each device and verified them. the step where we are having a lot of trouble is when we invite users: for example within meraki on the vpp I click add user, enter the details name: ipad1 email: ipad1@..... I click send invitations automatically and click save, I then see the user added and is being displayed as invited in blue (as it should) I then go onto the ipad and accept the invitation link and then sign in with the apple id and accept terms and conditions, it then says this has now been connected etc and you can now distribute apps to this device. I then look back in Meraki on the vpp user management section and the user displays as Associated in green (which it should) then 5 minutes later the user displays as retired??? we have tried different apple ids and ipads and this keeps reoccurring, anyone have any ideas/ have experienced this?

Hi, recently came across: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202967 It says it is only available in the USA, but other people are saying they have it in the UK etc. Anyone know where I can register for this as clicking via Apple's Enroll now on that page does not take me to the Apple ID For Students? or anyone know when it would be coming out in the UK? Thanks,

Arrived to work this morning with 30 brand new iPad Airs to prepare and deploy. Only one slight problem, I cant. Making them completely useless until Configurator 2 comes out which since it isnt even out of Beta yet I believe isn't going to be anytime soon. The error I get states that the version of Configurator I am using does not currently support iOS9 however the only option I can see when supervising new devices is to update to latest version, which is causing this problem. Apple are still signing iOS 8.4.1 as far as I know so I would love to just be able to use that! Anyone have a work around or am I completely stuck? Thanks

Hi guys Just trialing airserver here and like the product but have an issue with using it with mandatory profiles. i have installed the trial but whenever i launch the trial it asks for the reg code again (it is saved in the box so it is remembering it) if i buy the full version will this box go away? do i need to put anything in the mandatory profile ? im hoping the registered key sits on the pc and not in the users profile. any help appretiated

Hi anyone able to offer me any advice on an ipad problem please? The ipad has apparently been restarting/crashing quite a lot recently, so went and did what was (stupidly) recommended on the apple website and check for updates, download and install. The ipad appears to have crashed during the upgrade as I came back to it with a solid blue screen. Now when I turn it on I get the recovery mode screen. Plugging the ipad in and trying to upgrade or trying to restore all return with the error code 14 and I don't know how else to go forward with it. Anyone able to offer any advice other then throwing it through the nearest window? Thanks

Well, the inevitable has happened - we're likely going to be rolling out more iPads in school here and I've been tasked with sorting out an easier way to transmit video from them to projectors. The obvious answer is Apple TVs, as they are Apple born and bred. However, as ever, I am looking for cheaper things... Has anyone found anything that'll do this, reliably and cheaper than AppleTV?

Apple newbie here - never owned or managed any Apple device of any description and know nothing about them at all We purchased a bunch of 2nd hand iPads from a local school that had purchased more than they needed so although they were 2nd hand they were unused although registered with Apple. The school 'de-registered' them before handing them over and it appears that somebody (not me) then created an AppleID and signed into all of the iPads using it. We've now purchased a further batch, this time new/boxed and through a reseller and have also purchased a MacBook Pro to manage them as I was told that's what we needed. What's the simplest way to manage them in terms of locking them down so people cannot install Candy-Crush on them, automatically setting WiFi networks, setting wallpapers and so on and so forth - can I do that using Apple Configurator on the MacBook or do I need a better solution? Some will be used by senior managers exclusively and others by departments - these will be used by a number of people. I need whoever is logged in at the time to be able to access their email and mapped network drives, is that possible? I've read plenty of horror stories about iPads being personal devices not meant to be used n a network and VPP not working or having to apply to Apple to register more than x number of devices without being blacklisted, Bonjour traffic killing networks etc. so I am a little apprehensive about this - 1 MacBook, 40 iPads and zero experience of any of them! MDM software is a mystery to me as we've never had mobile devices of any description beyond Windows laptops and they are easy to manage as they can be domain joined. We are in the process of purchasing a Meraki WiFi solution and that offers a MDM solution - is that better than using Apple Configurator or is there a better (and ideally free/cheap) solution than either?

i have been trying to add an ipad i wiped back to profile manager all morning but to no avail. Ive wiped it twice now and set it up in configurator but it just wont add the profile manager profile either in configurator or via the web page either way it just says no and some message about a network error. as far as i cant tell there is no network error it can get to the profile manager webpage fine (and all the certs are in date) it can get to google fine as well. I assume it ios 12 related but ive tried updating the mac to Mohave and latest version of server and configurator and it made no difference. any ideas as i cant think of anything else to try atm

This week I pushed out the iOS12 update to our iPads, coincidentally?? I have had a lot of iPads losing their proxy settings. They are all setup in Lightspeed and they get the proxy settings from a profile. The profile is still on the iPad but the proxy is off/missing in the Wifi Setup. Entering the proxy manually resolves the issue, but I am getting more and more, and some pupils seem to be getting reset every day.

Hi all, I was buying fairly cheap 2m Xenta flat lightening cables @ about £4 from a couple of vendors. I've run out, come to order some and cannot find any cheap-ish cables anywhere. £5.50 for a 0.25m cable ?? Come on!?! Anyone got a supplier I can get some from ? Seems to be a shortage out there. Cheers in advance

So we have over 100 ipads in our primary (managed with configurator) and at the moment they are set not to use passcodes, as we thought it would be annoying if the children changed them. The new DPO has told us to use passcodes! Have looked in configuratro but can't find what I need. I need to be able to set a passcode that the children cannot change Anyone know if this is possible?

Good afternoon everybody, Is there a way to prevent app movements on the home screen without jailbreaking it? In my public school I manage a cart of 30 iPads manually using Apple Configurator 2 and I am trying to figure out how to prevent students from accidentally rearranging the home screen icons. From several google searches I found one ehow video ( ) which suggests a jailbreaking but I don't like jailbreaking for various reasons. Is there something I am overlooking? Thank you in advance!

When using shared iPads there is a known time delay before it becomes available while the current users profile gets loaded. In our test environment, which has very little user documents and data, we have seen that it takes a few seconds. We determine it by seeing that the new users notes appear in just a matter of seconds. The question is in regard to the hide and show application profile that we are implementing via the MDM. This profiles hides all apps except for the ones we specify. This takes about an extra 25 seconds to happen. This is a long time and it is made worse that during this time all the apps are available and can be started and then in middle of the user using it it vanishes. The MDM said that this only happens in shared iPads and in regular one it just takes about 5 seconds. They said that this is happening because Apple does not process the hide apps command right away in shared iPads and maybe because it is still doing things in the background. Has anyone had any experience doing this with shared iPads? Are they also experiencing delays? Thanks Steven

After our Head insisted on a Mac we had to get a version of MS Office to put on it (I believe this was covered by our MS licensing agreement). Now we have had to purchase an new iPad Pro for him and he also wants MS Word on it. However, I'm confused by the licensing model as I have Googled for the app and it appears that although you can download and install the app for free, it will only let you open original documents (not create). It would seem that we will also need to have an O365 subscription (which I'm not sure will be covered by our MS licensing). Can anyone please explain?

Hi I've got a teacher/friend who has reset their personal iPad I assume from maintenance mode and now it's going back through the factory settings screen but after the connection to a wifi network it stops with the Apple Activation Lock screen. Said user doesn't know the Apple ID or have the PC itunes was run from as it was a gift from an ex boyfriend and they didn't exactly depart on speaking terms... She is the legal owner of it before you ask!! Is there a way to get round this or is it totally forked and going to have to be thrown away. There is nothing on it that she wants to keep, just wants a complete wipe and rebirth. TIA Andrew

Hi, we've been trying to image a bank of iPads using AC2. There's a basic blueprint, and every other thing managed in profiles applies fine - the wireless settings, the content filter and the lock screen. That is, until you get to the restrictions. The device is supervised, yet you can still factory reset and access a lot of things that should be impossible to do with the profile applied. At this point, we can't find anything else to try and have been getting quite frustrated in getting these to work. Any ideas?

I've been banging my head against a wall for a while with this. In some circumstances things just work, however I think it's overcomplicated. From the point of view of starting fresh, with a largish batch of mixed age iPads, what would be the best way to fully manage them? Deployment, pushing out apps whilst they're in use WITHOUT prompting for passwords, using how many/what AppleID's etc. Currently struggling by with configuration manager in one school, althrough the most success I've had is with meraki in another. With that no longer an option though, is Profile Manager worth using? The school in question has a macbook, so I'd stick server on it if possible and go from there. Too many tutorials though seem to show the iPad still prompting for credentials to push out apps to it

Hi Anyone have the issue of setting a device into Lost mode, then it coming back in and has no wifi. Now Jamf cant send any commands. No I have a device with work on it that I can get off because of this. HELP!!!!

As described. Mr gee40’s iPad has been dropped and the power button is now stuck in. Any suggestions on how to free it?

I currently use Lightspeed to manage 400 iPads, I am not a fan of it and am keen to move to an alternative MDM. I have some experience of Mosyle and Meraki but I haven't used them for 1-1 iPads / Apple Classroom. The company who supply our iPads initally recommended Lightspeed but have now moved to JAMF, which I am completely unfamiliar with. Has anyone got any experience of both Lightspeed and JAMF? And can offer any comparisions? My main issues with Lightspeed: I find it very slow. Not at all intuitive to use No app on the iPad, so you can't refresh from the iPad, or reinstall missing apps from the iPad. You can only install apps by group, so if a single person needs a single app, you end up having to create another group just for that one app.

We have a number of DfE ipads all set up with Meraki. I can push apps etc, but it seems when I try to update iOS (they are 14.2 currently) they just ignore the instruction. They have been left on charge, turned off, restarted etc but no OS update. Have even tryed a remote wipe and they stick at 14.2. Is there a trick to this one?! With the summer approching would like to get them all up to date.

Well, with a LOT of help from the community, I got our iPads set up using Lightspeed. All seemed to be working as expected but, in the two months between their setup and actually needing to use the requested apps, did the teacher who was going to transform T&L with these actually bother to see if the apps worked as expected? (Rhetorical question). Anyway, have one main problem: Pads are currently logged into as Guest, but this seems to preclude local storage and so using any media creator soon throws a disk space error. Is there a way around this? If the way around is to sign in as something else How do I set up the account/s? Can they autologin? Can all pads use the same account? Secondary problem: One (so far) pad did use to launch iMovie, but now keeps asking for an Apple ID. Any ideas? Fixed by reinstall. Finally, is there a way to get OneDrive to autologin to a nominated account on them and to set it as default storage for iMovie and others?

As the title suggests... I'm looking for a way to find out the actual order status of DfE provided devices. Can't find anything on the actual DfE page and Google (or at least my Google-fu) isn't being much help... Ordered last Monday by the Business Manager (who thankfully this time double checked our Apple Organisation ID with me unlike last time), but nothing has appeared in our ASM and I haven't received any 'Devices Available' email. The BM did say he had received an order confirmation email, however I can't seem to find anywhere to check this on the 'GOV.UK Get help with technology' site....
