I’d like to know about other schools’ experiences migrating from on-premise file storage to OneDrive/SharePoint. Did you move to OneDrive user profiles? How do your user profiles work? Are they 100% cloud only? Currently we store on a NAS (all the usual file server features) and folder redirection. How do you handle the key Downloads/Pictures/Music? For those with apps like Adobe/Unity, anything to be aware of? Currently on AD/domain-joined so not Intune joined just yet. I am in the position to trial this with a small set of users, which will also tie in with an Intune migration eventually. Thanks.

Got an email from Mobile Guardian this morning announcing their "refreshed Dashboard". "our new interface is representative of foundational changes to our infrastructure that we’ve implemented over the past few years." From that, it made me think there was some kind of major overhaul to the UI, especially as they said to head to the KB "If anything is confusing". Nope, it's just a different colour scheme and a new logo (that looks a lot like the Promethean logo)

We are looking at a suite of 24 Learnpads for our Junior School. Up until now, we have been quite happy with the Samsung 8" Android Tabs, which we wiped and installed the Learnpad software on them. However, I am advised that Learnpad have now blocked this, and the only way to use their software is to buy their hardware as well. With VAT, their machines come in at a price not that far below something like an iPAD mini. We want something that is easy to use and control, and were happy with the original Learnpad solution, but our hand is now being forced because of a change of policy from Learnpad. Are any of you using the new Learnpads with wireless charging? (no doubt the total price is big because of the bespoke cabinet and chargers too). Thanks in anticipation Dave

Hey hey, We have a bit of an issue with the ipad setup. In March all was working on, but for the last month we have had no luck with distributing apps to ipads in addition to buying new apps and getting them to appear in the profile manager. Nothing has been changed to my knowledge and all the settings look ok The ipads do talk somewhat to the profile manager as the enrolling and pushing apps that are already installed go into the completed tasks log and appear ok. The apps when being pushed to the ipads if they are new to the ipad will say ‘No Copies Available’ With apps that have been associated with that ipad before will with go through ok or get stuck on ‘In Progress’ Our ipads are on various IOS levels some are on 9.1 to the latest. I thought I would mention this as I know there was an issue with 9.2. I have also replaced the VPP token When buying from the educational store, the item is purchased ok and all e-mail notifications are done as usual. But sadly the item never appears on the server to distribute later. I think that this is the main issue and the part will hopefully fix the other issues we are having distributing to ipads Has anyone had this issue before or got any ideas? -
Does Meraki need OSX Server running MDM to deploy the apps silently? I'm just looking at moving a site over from using Apple Configurator to Meraki (as that seems to be getting more traction than Configurator & seems a better solution (allowing us to deploy remotely).

Apple newbie here - never owned or managed any Apple device of any description and know nothing about them at all We purchased a bunch of 2nd hand iPads from a local school that had purchased more than they needed so although they were 2nd hand they were unused although registered with Apple. The school 'de-registered' them before handing them over and it appears that somebody (not me) then created an AppleID and signed into all of the iPads using it. We've now purchased a further batch, this time new/boxed and through a reseller and have also purchased a MacBook Pro to manage them as I was told that's what we needed. What's the simplest way to manage them in terms of locking them down so people cannot install Candy-Crush on them, automatically setting WiFi networks, setting wallpapers and so on and so forth - can I do that using Apple Configurator on the MacBook or do I need a better solution? Some will be used by senior managers exclusively and others by departments - these will be used by a number of people. I need whoever is logged in at the time to be able to access their email and mapped network drives, is that possible? I've read plenty of horror stories about iPads being personal devices not meant to be used n a network and VPP not working or having to apply to Apple to register more than x number of devices without being blacklisted, Bonjour traffic killing networks etc. so I am a little apprehensive about this - 1 MacBook, 40 iPads and zero experience of any of them! MDM software is a mystery to me as we've never had mobile devices of any description beyond Windows laptops and they are easy to manage as they can be domain joined. We are in the process of purchasing a Meraki WiFi solution and that offers a MDM solution - is that better than using Apple Configurator or is there a better (and ideally free/cheap) solution than either?

Hi Everyone, Have an issue where I am unable to send Profile Manager commands over the internet. For example, I can send Profile Manager commands over the LAN normally. I can enable lost mode, update device info etc.. But when it comes to doing it to a managed device that's been taken off site or tethered to my iPhone, when sending a command from the profile manage console it just sticks in the job queue and nothing happens. When I check the php.log I can see the jobs I requested when the iPad was on the LAN but I am not able to see the jobs that I requested when the iPad was taken off site or tethered to my iPhone. I've spoken to our ISP who manages the ports and they have assured me that all necessary ones for Profile Manager have been opened up. I've tried my best to troubleshoot why this may not be working but i'm at a loose end. Anyone out there who is able to lend a hand?

We currently have LightSpeed MDM and we're looking to replace it. We're looking to replace it as it seems slow, clunky, difficult to navigate and just generally rubbish. Has anyone else had a similar experience with LightSpeed?

Hi Our Performing Arts Centre have received a new high specced iMac predominantly for video editing. We have a small network of imacs but are predominantly Windows based. The existing macs are still able to be deployed/updated using Deploystudio but I believe this would not work with the new one. As this is only one Mac what would the best practice be for setting this up? Should I manually bind to the network etc, install Office, Sophos etc.. or is there a better more automated and secure way (withoiut too much of a learning curve)? Would it still link in with profile manager for drive and printer mappings? What would you recomend? Thanks

I'm trying to get apple classroom running on a set of 16 iMac's. I can install the teachers Classroom application fine and that run ok as far as I can tell. The issue comes when I want to add a student on a mac to a class, to add them I try and run the classroom preference pane in system preferences. It just brings up an error message You can’t open the “Classroom” preferences pane because it is not available to you at this time. To see this preferences pane, you may need to connect a device to your computer. Looking online the computers are the right specification and the OSX version is 10.14.4 and there are no updates avalible from apple. The mac's are all DEP and enrolled in meraki MDM I thought it might be a bluetooth or wireless issue but they are both on. I even tried tethering to my phone incase it was a filtering issue with the school broadband. Has anybody been able to get the classroom 2.0 app for mac working ? https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT206151

Hi All We use Meraki Systems manager to manage the 100 iPads we have. For a year everything has been running smoothly. Last week I had to renew the Apple MDM cert. I followed the guide provided by Meraki and renewed the certificate, everything went smoothly.. until now Clients are not reporting in and when I view a client it says the push cert is non-compliant. I clicked "what is this" under neither and it reads "This device is using an outdated APNS topic and needs to be re-enrolled. I have tried to un-enrol the device, and then enrol it by following the instructions on the iOS deployment page". I tried this with 4 iPads and now they will not reenrol. I have tried deleting the clients and removing the Profile, to no avail. I'm hoping someone has some idea on a solution to this before I try adding a new cert and attempting to re-enrol all devices from there. Thank you in advanced to any help! -
Hi, Hopefully you'll bear with me on this one, I'm looking for advice and / or how you are currently deploying your iPads. We currently have two differing uses of iPads; bays and student one-to-one project. I think the easiest thing to do would be to explain what we're currently doing, then assess what and how we want to improve. Currently, we use the Lightspeed MDM solution. We have VPP codes but now want to move over to the managed distribution so we retain the ownership of the app. At the moment we are using one Apple ID to configure all iPads (though we do buy enough codes to cover the amount of iPads). We have been using Apple Configurator to supervise, install the MDM profile and then Configurator to deploy the Apps (quicker than OTA). The main problem we come up against, more so on the one-to-one iPads where the students have their own Apple ID, is that any updates to the 'base' setup we do, they require the school Apple ID to update those Apps. This isn't ideal. I find the whole process of configuring iPads troublesome and too time consuming, they can't make it too easy like applying Apps to the device rather than an Apple ID, can they? It really isn't fit for purpose. Anyway, I'm hoping someone can point me in the direction of applying Apps to devices as a base build, handing them over to students and then them not being prompted for the school Apple ID. If we're doing it completely wrong, that's fine, we'd just like a few pointers on how the rest of you are bypassing these little niggles. -

Hi All We've had a small issue with Students jail breaking their iPads. While this has been dealt with from a discipline point-of-view I'm trying to find someway to keep half an eye on whether the little darlings have jail broken their iPads or not. Hopefully within our MDM (Meraki). Can anyone point me in the right direction? Regards Simon

Trying to use VPP with Meraki - first 2 users no problem, third to sixth users get automatically retired after accepting the invite and apps start downloading.. then in the user management they are set to retired. If i reinvite them, they show active for about 5 mins then retire again.... what am i doing wrong!! -
Is there a way to export/grab the configurations from iOS apps? I'm using Lightspeed MDM and it gives you the option to add a configuration plist file to the deployed app. But how do I a) get this file from an existing iPad (if possible) or b)How would I go about generating these files for the apps. Ideally I want to set permission for the camera & photos etc, default servers for Foldr & Accelerated Reader etc.

Hi All I'm wondering if any of you have any experience of using Microsoft Intune as an MDM solution for iPad management? If you have or do use it, what are your thoughts on it? We are considering trailing it (along with Meraki's offering). Cheers! :-)

Hi all, I have recently been tasked with helping a school with their iPad deployment - i'll give you a bit of background: They have purchased 150 iPads (used by staff and students) and Lion Server which have been onsite for over 6 months but the previous technicians who were involved did not get round to setting up any sort of MDM system. The schools requirements are: 1. iPads need configuration profiles pushed out with 'curriculum' restrictions 2. iPads need configuration profiles pushed out with 'Staff' restrictions 3. They either need access to windows shares from the iPads OR the ability to save to a share on the mac server and access it from a windows client. 4. Students need to be able to sign in with their Apple ID's and install their own Apps 5. Students need 'standard' school apps pushed out via MDM. 6. The iPads are assigned to staff/students on a 1:1 basis. Now I support another school with 20x iPads which I use Apple Configurator to prepare and supervise - this works well as they sit in USB docks with servers connected to each of the two docks. Obviously with 150 devices, this isn't really suitable for Apple Configurator as we can't connect every iPad to USB every time we want to install an app so we very much need to look at over-the-air solutions. I've been looking at the Apple Profile Manager and briefly looked at an MDM solution called Airwatch but I thought I'd ask you first if there's any advice or suggestions on the best way to handle this project. Some questions I need to answer: 1. Can the native Apple Profile Manager handle the requirements above? 2. Is there functionality within Lion Server to enable sharing to windows clients or vice versa? 3. If we have to look at a third party MDM solution - what would be the most cost effective solution based on the requirements of the school listed above? This is all fairly new to me, and despite some experience with Lion/Apple Configurator, this is a daunting task for someone who is very much a 'windows' guy! Any help, advise or suggestions will be most graciously received. Thanks Chris

Hi All, We have a bank of 16 iPad Airs (iOS 8.1.1) that we are looking to deploy as a bookable resource for Staff to loan out for lessons. Also we have 10 dedicated devices being used by our SLT for reporting, meeting notes etc. We are using AirWatch as our MDM solution We build all of our iPads through Apple Configurator. The process is as follows: Connect iPad to Mac and wipe (if it has been previously used) Turn on Supervision and name the device Update iOS if necessary Let AC do its thing restoring the device Tick to install the wifi profile (contains proxy address) We then run through the initial setup screens on the iPad, enabling Location Services (AirWatch requires it) disabling iCloud, signing in with the SINGLE Apple ID until we land on the home screen. Then I go to Settings and check in the App Store tab that we are still signed in (sometimes this logs out - very annoying!) We open the AirWatch app and run through the enrollment process, this then dumps the device in the console and we can manage it from the web page. A couple of questions we have are: When we build a new device, all of the other devices that have previously been built get an on-screen prompt saying "this Apple ID is now being used for FaceTime etc on a new iPad". Obviously this isn't ideal as they are usually being used by Students. When rolling out Apps from AirWatch, our users are intermittantly prompted to sign into the App store on the devices (yes we are signed into the App Store/iTunes on the Mac we are using) WHY?! Is it better to create a single Apple ID to use on all devices or to create multiple ID's for each device? I have tested this briefly, creating iPad01@..., iPad02@... but we are now getting a "sign into the App Store" prompt that literally appears every 2 seconds on the devices that makes it impossible to use the device! We have a VPP account configured to our MAIN APPLE ID (the one we currently use for all of our devices, this works fine. What would the process involve if we wanted to create an Apple ID for every device, would we need to associate all of these to the existing VPP account? Does anyone have any experience with this kind of implementation using AirWatch? Don't want to offend anyone but their support is usually from overseas and English doesn't seem to be their technicians first language! Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi all, We have around 600 iPads at our school and use Meraki as our MDM. Everything works pretty well(ish) overall, but we're starting to have issues with pupils switching on 2-Step Verification on their iPads. We have always set up their Apple ID's for them so we have control over them but after the last couple of iOS updates, they have been given the option to add 2SV and it's giving us a massive headache when they forget their Apple ID password etc. as they have linked it to their personal mobile. Aside from managed Apple ID's which I haven't gone down the route of yet as a) I haven't had enough time to properly investigate, b) I want to make sure actually works and c) I ideally don't want some managed and some not, so would have to switch all to manage which is probably a huge headache to do, I don't know what else to do. Any help or advice if you are in a similar situation, would be much appreciated. SG -
Hello we have an iPad which is stuck in 'lost mode.' It's now been returned to us and in Intune I've set the lost mode to disabled however, as the iPad doesn't have wifi connection it hasn't picked up on the change and is still showing as being lost. There's no apple ID associated with the device as it's managed through intune and apple sign in is disabled so am unable to stop lost mode from icloud. I've tried putting it in recovery mode and into a Mac to format it via apple config manager but have had no luck. Has anyone had this issue before and how did you manage to get round this Many thanks in advanced

I've setup ASM a few years back and used it happily with Intune (and previously Lightspeed) but have now been tasked of setting up ABM at a new place I am working at and wanted to just make sure what I had done in a previous life was the correct way or if things have moved on since. To my understanding you are best using ABM/ASM running tandem with a MDM solution like Intune, Lightspeed, etc to get the full functionality and management features on your Apple devices? I've seen people mention about using ABM/ASM on its own but my previous experience of this is that you don't get much in terms of control on the devices. Also off the back of this whenever I worked on MacOS or iOS devices with this setup we always had to wipe the device before putting it on the system so that it puts it in a 'supervised' mode otherwise you can't do much with the device. Is this actually the case still or can devices be enrolled with full control without having to wipe them? I'm making this post as more of a sounding board to make sure I'm not going mad and that I do understand the setup here but if any could correct me or confirm with me what I've got then that would be great. As always you are all amazing and I welcome any feedback or ideas
