Hello, I have recently installed DeployStudio Server onto our OS X Lion server and I am taking a master image from one of our Mac Book Pro's. I am currently using NetBoot to start the DeployStudio Runtime, this is working as expected. My question is how long should it take to pull a master image from the mac book to the server? It is currently showing 500 minutes remaining, this seems a bit too long. What sort of times are you guys getting when taking a master image? I have tried using a tmp folder for the image and also straight to the server however each method reports around 500 minutes to take the image. Any feedback would be appreciated. Many thanks, Mike

Hi all, I have recently been tasked with helping a school with their iPad deployment - i'll give you a bit of background: They have purchased 150 iPads (used by staff and students) and Lion Server which have been onsite for over 6 months but the previous technicians who were involved did not get round to setting up any sort of MDM system. The schools requirements are: 1. iPads need configuration profiles pushed out with 'curriculum' restrictions 2. iPads need configuration profiles pushed out with 'Staff' restrictions 3. They either need access to windows shares from the iPads OR the ability to save to a share on the mac server and access it from a windows client. 4. Students need to be able to sign in with their Apple ID's and install their own Apps 5. Students need 'standard' school apps pushed out via MDM. 6. The iPads are assigned to staff/students on a 1:1 basis. Now I support another school with 20x iPads which I use Apple Configurator to prepare and supervise - this works well as they sit in USB docks with servers connected to each of the two docks. Obviously with 150 devices, this isn't really suitable for Apple Configurator as we can't connect every iPad to USB every time we want to install an app so we very much need to look at over-the-air solutions. I've been looking at the Apple Profile Manager and briefly looked at an MDM solution called Airwatch but I thought I'd ask you first if there's any advice or suggestions on the best way to handle this project. Some questions I need to answer: 1. Can the native Apple Profile Manager handle the requirements above? 2. Is there functionality within Lion Server to enable sharing to windows clients or vice versa? 3. If we have to look at a third party MDM solution - what would be the most cost effective solution based on the requirements of the school listed above? This is all fairly new to me, and despite some experience with Lion/Apple Configurator, this is a daunting task for someone who is very much a 'windows' guy! Any help, advise or suggestions will be most graciously received. Thanks Chris

I'm trying to set up a very basic internally managed iPad trolley, we have 16 iPads and a Lion Mac Mini Server. Today was our first install day and I'm stuck with a couple of errors that I get on the iPads when I try to enroll them. I've already gone through various threads and followed a few peoples advice on re-creating Open Directory + certs to no avail. At the moment there are 2 certs that I can use - The first being the one that Profile Manager made when creating Open Directory and the second being a self signed cert that I created manually afterward. I get a different error depending on which cert I use. The auto created OD one comes back with "Invalid Profile" The self signed cert comes back with "The server certificate for "https://nhmacserver01.domainname.co.uk/devicemanagement/api/device/ota_service" is invalid. As I don't have my SSL cert signed by 3rd party I have been installing the "Trust Profile" before Enrolling. I have thoroughly checked DNS and all is okay on that front, is there anything else I could of overlooked here? On the server the auto created OD cert comes up as trusted whereas the self signed one does not so I suspect that the auto created one is the way forward.. I am back on site again tomorrow so can post up any additional details that might give you guys a better idea of where i've got to. Thanks a lot in advance, Martin

Hi all, We have been battling this situation for a long time now without any positive results, and I am hoping that someone may have some suggestions that may help. Our school district uses a .local AD domain, and our Macs which are on 10.7 have difficulties in logging into. The problem is the 'Network accounts are unavailable' dialog that displays on the login screen. In a lab of 30 computers, all will show this message for a minute or two, and then some will let you log in, and others will continue displaying this message. If you restart the computers, the same will happen but on different computers; It is never consistent which will have the problems. Based on the research I have done, a lot of .local domains appear to have issues with Lion, and Apple has released numerous updates to try and help it. Binding to the domain has no issue, and the increased log in time is annoying but is acceptable. We have ensured that a preferred domain sever is selected Issue persists after a clean install and ensured all updates have been applied (10.7.4) Logging into a local account and using fast user switching seems to allow a network log in quicker We are debating disabling Bonjour, but are holding off unless a better solution can be found. Has anyone experienced this issue and has implemented a solution that you could recommend? Thank you!
