Does anyone know a script or a way that I can change around 400 users default save location at once on Server 2008R2 and MS Office 2003? I have tried group policy but it doesnt always seem to work on the test users I have done. Any scripts which I can send out for users to run once or something would be fantastic. It would ideally be P:\%username% However I cannot for the life of me get it to work.

Well, this is a Friday afternoon weird one. I have an email account/user here who's Sent Items in Outlook is showing various emails sent under a heading of "Next Week" - in the same way it would normally have "Today", "Yesterday". They won't settle for my explanation that Outlook is being extra efficient and doing next weeks work for them... I've checked all the obvious things - Exchange server date/time is correct, users laptop date/time is correct, emails showing as Next Week have definitely been sent and have been confirmed received by the recipients. Any ideas? I'm stumped!

Hi there, The actual error I recieve when trying to open the file in word is attached below. It's a Word 2.0 file apparently, and it is allegedly blocked by a registry setting, can anyone tell me the registry setting that blocks the file and how I might change it? I am not a system administrator (on the servers themselves) but I can ask for the changes if they need to be done on there. Any help appreciated. word_error.bmp

This is slightly embarrassing. Some time ago we installed a plug-in for Powerpoint which enable the user to easily insert a Flash movie into their presentation. Unfortunately, coz I'm thick, I've completely forgotten what it's called and where I got it from so I was wondering if you guys could help. The only info I can give you is a screenshot of how the plug-in appears in the Insert menu. If anyone recognises the icon or knows instantly what I'm talking about, it would be appreciated. Next time, I'll take note of what I install.

Is it possible to add a sound file to a spreadsheet? I'd like to have a "Well done" or "Try again" sound when a number is entered in a cell. Any ideas how this can be achieved if at all?

I'm just putting a proposal together to radically change the way we teach excel here. I'm recommending a lot more emphasis on cross curricula activities. I've come up with some of the more obvious one but has anyone any more unusual ideas? This for Y5/6/7.

Hi Folks, Seem to be having a problem with Outlook templates at the moment. I've been tasked to create a template users can use to email all our customers with a festive theme. I have designed the template, and it works fine on my outlook, the image is being hosted on the interweb, I started by creating a html file with css to embed the background image on the page with no-repeat as an option. I then created stationery based on the html page, added relevant text and saved as an Outlook template. When I open the template, the image loads, the text is all correct, when my boss opens the template he gets the image loaded, however the old one when we were testing, doesn't look like outlook is refreshing the image, when another colleague opens the template, the text is all there in the correct place, however the image is not shown at all in the window. Are there any obvious steps I'm missing? I can supply the .htm base file and the saved .oft file if anyone wants to have a look for me. Outlook 2003 btw Thanks!

Hey everyone, We have a user here who is trying to open an xlsx document with a password on it. The machine is a Windows 7 machine. I have installed SP3 for office 2003 and the Compatibility Pack installed, however when i try to open this file it crashes straight away. Any other xlsx file opens fine, just any with a password on it won't. Any Ideas???

Hi Guys, I have this issue with access 2003- a teacher has been telling me that some students create a form on access, then save and next time they open the database the form disappears, have you seen that before? It's driving me nuts! Thanks in advance for your help.

Is it possible to enforce the "show standard and formatting toolbars on two rows" customisation to all users that log onto a computer. I have customised the normal.dot file which is the default blank profile but i cant do this for all users, i can only do it for individual profiles once they have logged in and created the template folder. Any idea much appreciated. Thanks

Open a blank spreadsheet. drag the rows and columsn until you get exact squares (as best you can anyway!)... highlight a few of the top left squares and add borders to delineate... print off the sheet and compare with the on-screen... has excel squashed the squares? why does it do this?

Hi all, I have an annoying problem that I have been trying to find a work around for the past few hours! I have a master excel spreadsheet with individual spreadsheets linking to the master. The problem is, I don't want users having access to viewing the master sheet, just their own faculty one. If I lock the master to stop public viewing, the individual sheets can't update unless the user enters the password for the master. Is there something silly that I have missed, or is there an easier way to do this? Many thanks in advance.

Hello All, I want to COUNTIF all the pupils who have an "A*" grade in a spreadsheet. =COUNTIF(GradeRange,"A*") However, Excel sees the astrix as a wildcard and counts any cell with an "A" in it. Is there a way of instructing excel not to see the '*' as a wildcard criteria? Thanks, Ben

Hello All, Imagine the spreadsheet: ... A B 1. 0 J 2. 1 K 3. 1 J 4. 0 L 5. 1 L I want a formula that states: Count all the cells in column B that contain "J" IF column A = 1. So the result of the formula for the above sheet would be 1 (cell B3 only). I'm trying to knock together a formula with COUNTIF and the AND operator without much success. Can someone give me a pointer please? Thanks in advance, Ben

Calling all Excel gurus (or possibly just anybody with more nouse than I)... Range_1 Range_2 a...............20 b...............10 c...............10 a...............10 c...............30 b...............20 I would like a formula that finds the average of results in 'Range_2' for all rows in 'Range_1' that equal "a". I thought something like: =AVERAGE(SUMPRODUCT((Range_1="a")*(Range_2)) However, this returns the sumproduct but not average. Any help would be very much welcomed. Thanks a lot. Ben

Some spreadsheets have been created for the Teachers to input some target tracking information. There is one for every class. I was told this morning that one of the files wont open with the message "2F.xls locked for editing". When i tried to open the other year 2 spreadsheets i got the same error. Unfortunately the name it gives me makes no sense as it was one that was set previously by someone else and doesn't make it easy for me to trace which pc, if any, has it open. Is there a way round this? Can i free the "locked" files? I find it wierd that the one the teacher tried to open for her class was locked because surely it would only be here editing it..... Thanks Office 2003 Server 2003 Windows XP

Got a whole load of new laptops Ive been given, that were imaged from a machine where office was installed from a network share. The student accounts dont have access to this share, so when office 2003 does its initial setting up annoying thing it always does, it comes back with errors and stuff about the bad network path. Is there any way to change the default install location office looks to?

Having a mental block here - must be something to do with the heat! I have a list of "surname space forename" in one column. I need to separate them into two columns - how do I detect the space in order to capture each part, to place in separate columns?

Hi all Just thought i would give you a heads up on this. PowerPoint 2003 shows corrupted files after April 13 automatic updates on Windows XP ack! sorry i just realised this is in the wrong forum section xD

Publisher 2003 on Win7 printing to HP 3600n MS Publisher is printing 4 pages of a Certificate I created when only 1 is selected in the printer options page. I have also checked the advanced pages within the printer setting to see if anything was overriding. It works fine for all other documents. It prints 4 when sent to another HP 3600n Anyone else had this?

I have a banner in publisher, very simple, it's a big image spread over 2 pages, with a WordArt text overlay. Looks fine. When I come to print it, it is printing the left hand 50% of the image on both pages, yet the wordart is printing out correctly, across both pages. Is there a setting I've clicked somewhere? This seems a daft issue, never seen anything like it!

We are due to hold an exam whereby the spell check, dictionary and thesaurus features of Word 2003 need to be disabeld. Is there a way of doing this, preferably using group policy or failing that on an individual machine basis?

Had a strange one today, normally when you highlight some text then start typing it imediately replaces the highlighted text, well now its doesnt? It just starts typing at the start of the highlighted section of text and I cant figure out why? Got to be something simple.

Got a bit of an odd issue on MS Office 2003. Log on as Admin and build a DB no issues. DB opens with no issues on other Office 2003 suited pcs. Log on as a student, create DB save and close. Try to open again – initial bit ok but then try to open table and message pops up The Visual Basic for Applications project in the database is corrupt. (Access 2000 file format). Clicking about 20 times with the mouse eventually opens it. Did Office repair – no difference. Any ideas please?
