Hey peeps. We're having an issue with one particular outside sender. A member of public is sending in an e-mail on a @btinternet.com email address, and for some reason it never reaches any of us. We've only found out due to said person using a partners e-mail address (which is a @hotmail, (may or may not be relevant)) and a phone call. Now we've looked through our email AV PureMessage, and nothing has been quarantined. Using the message tracking center in System Manager, we can see the email came in, but for some reason never delivered. It states: "SMTP: Message Submitted to Advanced Queuing, SMTP: Started Message Submission to Advanced Queue, SMTP: Message Submitted to Categorizer" And thats all we have. Cannot find it anywhere. The said person has sent a few e-mails since the first and all do the same thing. I can confirm other @btinternet.com senders are recieved fine. Odd and stumped. Any one else experienced this? Thanks in advanced.

Well, this is a Friday afternoon weird one. I have an email account/user here who's Sent Items in Outlook is showing various emails sent under a heading of "Next Week" - in the same way it would normally have "Today", "Yesterday". They won't settle for my explanation that Outlook is being extra efficient and doing next weeks work for them... I've checked all the obvious things - Exchange server date/time is correct, users laptop date/time is correct, emails showing as Next Week have definitely been sent and have been confirmed received by the recipients. Any ideas? I'm stumped!

Hi, I have recently moved Exchange 2003 onto a new server using the following information "How to remove the first Exchange Server 2003 computer from the administrative group" and am experiencing some sync / send receive errors on completion. Error from the client "0x08004010F" Object could not be found. Error from server when trying to rebuild the OAL "OALGen encountered error [0x80040107] while calculating the OALs". Basically the OAL is missing and cannot rebuild itself. I have tried various things such as creating a new OAL and re-naming it something different and setting it as default. But Event Viewer shows the server error above at schedule update time. I can stop the clients from downloading the OAL through Send/Receive Settings, but I would much prefer a fix as i'm sure there would be reprocussions from doing this. Has anyone had a smiliar error and have any advice or suggestions for me? Thanks, Pete

Does anyone know how to install exchange server 2003 standard into an RM CC3 network. I have 3 DC's and two member servers one of which will host my exchange 2003 code. I am not sure how to go about installing exchange 2003 on the member server without affecting the current operation of cc3. I know you can purchase exchange 2003 from RM who will integrate it at a cost but I was trying to avoid that. Thanks in antisipation.

Please could someone point me in the right direction? I have just set up exchange 2003 on a windows server 2003 machine. This is not one of my DC's. I have set up clients successfully - sharing calenders, global address lists, send/recv internal email etc....BUT, I would like to use exchange to host my external email. At school we have a domain (aylshamhigh.com) registered with Zen and I am aware that there are mx records (but know nothing more here) and that they can be changed. My understanding is that I need to change the MX record with Zen - but do not know what to, and also what changes do i need to make on my exchange server and where exactly - exchange systems manager, IIS, etc??? Finally if it helps, I do have a reverse proxy set up on the server for the purposes of ePortal (web based software) which I think is what I need for this issue? Any clues/suggestions will be much appreciated.

Hi Guys, Quick question, I'm preparing to upgrade from Exchange 2003 to 2007 and have come across an issue reported by the Best Proactive Analyser tool. The tool reports findings of active directory connectors on both domain controllers which must be decommissioned before exchange 2007 can be installed. After reviewing the following article from our friends at MS (One or more Active Directory Connector servers were found) the recommended action is to "Remove All ADC Service Components" which I'm reluctant to do considering that the connectors are on domain controllers. Has anyone been here before? Thanks Matt

Hi all, Last week webmail wouldn't let users log in, after abit of investergation I worked out if you typed in 'domain\username' into the log in box it would let users log in. We are on Server 2003 and exchange 2003. Has one got any ideas why it would start to do this?? Thank you dsquared2

Hi All, I've just overcome a potentially huge diaster recovery situation with Exchange 2003 which I thought I would share (after all, Google indexes this site, so this might help somone in future - or advise on backup strategy before a problem occurs etc). So... here's the disaster cause: Power cut yesterday (first day of summer holidays). UPS kicked in but didn't shut down the server correctly/in time. Turned back on and found that one of my mailbox storage groups (1 mailbox storage group and 1 public folder group) was corrupt and refused to mount. I knew we had daily backups of Exchange so wasn't too concerned about data loss, but despite having covered a lot of scenarios for exams or other people, have never had to do a restore myself. In theory, I thought I would need to create a recovery storage group, restore to there, use exmerge and then esutil! What a nightmare thought - who would like the idea of doing that! Well - I didn't at all! We use Backup Exec 11d - a product i've never been massivly impressed with, but inheritted and stuck with as it did the job. Basically, cutting out all of the theory (and all of the information found online from searching), you go in to Backup Exec, choose the storage group you want to restore. Choose "no loss" recovery and set it to overwrite existing files, set it to mount the group after restore..... wait until the restore is complete and blam - a fully working Exchange server which has even had the restored storage groups mounted automatically! If anyone is reading this wondering what backup software to use with Exchange, it's a no-brainer - Backup Exec will save you loads of faffing around with ropey command line utilities in a disaster recovery situation and save your bacon!

Hi, At the moment we have a lot of students misusing computers, internet and email. We currently have two VB Scripts which disable the students account or internet, the first disables their full computer account and adds the details of the ban which are entered into the script to a database. The second script makes the student a member of a AD group called "no internet access" this then blocks their access to the internet as our ISA does not accept them, they are also added to a database with the details of the ban. We then also have a script which runs every morning and looks at the dates in the database, if there are any which should be enabled on todays date, it will either remove them from the group or enable the account depending on the type of ban. I am trying to make a script that will disable their email account, as you are probably aware if you wish to disable an accounts OWA (outlook web access) you need to go to active directory, search for the user, go to properties, exchange features and then click on the disable button next to OWA. This is very time consuming, we do not have a record of the ban and also the account will not be automatically enabled on the set date. I am currently at a loss with this, as i have tried various scripts from various sites, none of which i can get to work. Any help with this would be much appreciated. Many Thanks David Phillips Winton Arts & Media College

Ok this is a real puzzler! I have a MacBook late 2008 Silver model and my boss has a MacBook Air, i'm using IMAP to contact are email server (exchange 2003) in the school using are external host name for the server as in email.schoolname.sch.uk as this will work from home internally and externally. I can set his email up no problems on my mac using this external name and his username and network password to authenticate and can then subscribe to all the folder etc. however on his mac and other macs.... ive tested this, if refuses to work! It wont find the server (only using the internal server name as in servername.domainname this however means that when he leaves the site he cant access his email unless he setups a separate account for external using email.schoolname.sch.uk as mentioned above)! Hope this makes sense so far! Now i've checked all the network and security settings on my mac against his and they match to the word other than the IP address obviously, so what the heck have I done to my mac that allows me to view all the email accounts internally and externally using the external name?? I was thinking it was to do with DNS and resolving the external name internally, is this the Aliases or CNAME (not to sure on correct terms been doing some research) however this wouldn't explain why my mac works and his doesn't for his email and all other??! Please help me!! Thanks Steve

Hi, We have an old Exchange 2003 Server with only a handful of staff on as the rest are on 2010 along with the students. The address lists and recipient policies are still sat on 2003 using the old ldap filters and the OAB is still generated on 2003. The migration was started over a year ago but as it was co existing fine we never completed the migration.... until hopefully now. Re reading the migration steps worry me so I just wanted some advice with regards moving the remaining bits from 2003. My main concern is how these changes with effect users still on 2003? Recipient Policies - we have 2 in place staff and student which are simply if the custom attritute 1 is staff / student - can these simply be converted over using the following Get-EmailAddressPolicy | where {$_.RecipientFilterType –eq “Legacy”} | Set-EmailAddressPolicy –IncludedRecipients AllRecipients Address Books need updating to the newer OPATH filters - we have staff and student address books under "All Address Lists" and "All Global" the security set on the staff ones have deny list to students (might be a better way to do this?) Set-AddressList “All Users” –IncludedRecipients MailboxUsers Set-AddressList “All Groups” –IncludedRecipients Mailgroups Set-AddressList “All Contacts” –IncludedRecipients MailContacts Set-AddressList “Public Folders” –RecipientFilter {RecipientType –eq “PublicFolder”} Set-GlobalAddressList "Default Global Address List" -RecipientFilter {(Alias -ne $null -and (ObjectClass -eq 'user' -or ObjectClass -eq 'contact' -or ObjectClass -eq 'msExchSystemMailbox' -or ObjectClass -eq 'msExchDynamicDistributionList' -or ObjectClass -eq 'group' -or ObjectClass -eq 'publicFolder'))} Any help would be much appreciated. Pete

I have a question about Exchange 2003 and Forest Upgrades: I'm running Exchange 2003 on a Windows Server 2003 system with a Server 2000 Functional Level Forest and Domain, though we have no Server 2000 servers We are looking at upgrading our DCs and Domain to 2008 but don't want to upgrade our Exchange Server - can we safely run Exchange 2003 on a Server 2003 in a 2008 domain? Please help! I'm at my wits' end trying to trawl through the mixed, scattered advice online! Thanks

Hi Does anyone know if its possible to synchronise an Exchange Public folder calendar with a personal calendar in Outlook? The original problem is that I am trying to sync a public folder calendar which is visible in Outlook 2003 with the calendar of a HTC HD2 mobile phone. As this is a windows based phone it uses activsync to perform this function but it is very linited in its funtionality & only allows sychronisation of the personal calendar. After hunting the net I can see that this is a big issue for many business users & Microsoft should really have addressed this problem. Most other mobile phone synchronisation software allows you to browse to other folders e.g. public folders to sync other than just the default personal calendar. There are numerous synchronisation apps out there that can sync data from one place to another but not from & to the public folder area that I could find. My workaround solution was that if it was possible to sync or schedule a copy of the public folder calendar with the personal calendar in Outlook this would solve the issue, all be it a little long winded. If anyone knows of an app that would be suitable or maybe theres some clever geeks out there that could write a script to do this then I would be very grateful. Any help appreciated. Thanks
