Hi all, I've been looking for hours and cannot find a working solution. My director wants a report/CSV showing all mailboxes and number of total unread emails per mailbox. A previous employee had created a ps1 but for some reason it doesn't output the correct files. It exports 2 files, users.csv which is a list of all mailboxes and unread_emails.csv which for some reason is blank? Thank you! The code is: ########################################################################## Scope: User & Unread E-mail Report Generation from AD Security Group # ######################################################################### param ([string] $inputFile = "users.csv", [system.Management.Automation.PSCredential] $credential) $ErrorActionPreference = "Stop" add-pssnapin *exchange* -erroraction SilentlyContinue import-module ActiveDirectory [Reflection.Assembly]::LoadFrom("C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange\Web Services\2.0\Microsoft.Exchange.WebServices.dll") $service = New-Object Microsoft.Exchange.WebServices.Data.ExchangeService -ArgumentList([Microsoft.Exchange.WebServices.Data.ExchangeVersion]::Exchange2010_SP1) if ($credential -ne $null) { $service.Credentials = $credential.GetNetworkCredential() } else { $service.UseDefaultCredentials = $true; } function GetUnreadInboxMails([string] $emailAddress) { $service.AutodiscoverUrl($emailAddress, {$true}); $mailbox = New-Object Microsoft.Exchange.WebServices.Data.Mailbox($emailAddress) $folderId = New-Object Microsoft.Exchange.WebServices.Data.FolderId([Microsoft.Exchange.WebServices.Data.WellKnownFolderName]::Inbox, $mailbox) $folder = [Microsoft.Exchange.WebServices.Data.Folder]::Bind($service, $folderId); $result = New-Object PSObject -Property @{ EmailAddress = $emailAddress UnreadMailCount= $folder.UnreadCount; } return $result; } function ProcessResult($entry) { "{0}" -f $entry.UnreadMailCount } Write-Host "`n";Write-Host "Unread E-mails Report`n" Write-Warning `a`a`a`a"!! Afternoon all With it being Christmas, I am hoping for a miracle ! Over the last 4-6 weeks, we have been experiencing issues sending emails to Google and Google hosted accounts. It was working one day and then the next not! We host our own Exchange 2010 server and have done for many years. When we send an email to Google we get the following bounce-back; mx.google.com rejected your message to the following e-mail addresses: 'Anthony Short ([email protected])' ([email protected]) mx.google.com gave this error: [82.16.27.51 12] Our system has detected that this message is likely unsolicited mail. I have done loads of testing with MX Toolbox and I get positive results back. I have registered and been verified by Google's own Postmaster service. I am on no spam lists at the moment. I have checked all out going traffic and all SMTP is coming from our exchange server. I have also followed the Google Bulk Sender best practise stuff too. We have an SPF record but we do not use DKIM or DMARC polices. First has anyone else experienced any of these issues with Google recently? Obviously, if you have and have managed to solve the problem or if anyone else knows of anything please could you point me in the right direction? Many thanks Ant

Hellooooo! Have come across a problem which has me confused (not a difficult occurrence to be fair). Please understand that my knowledge of Servers is somewhat limited and have adopted this, and have never built a server. 1) I have a Linux Mailserver feeding into an Exchange 2010 Server. 2) Recently i started having mail flow issues and they would hold on the Linux server and not be delivered. I dug up a variety of errors and have arrived at the conclusion that i have an 'Exchange Back Pressure' issue which is, based on the event logs, due to insufficient disk space. However, the partition where my Exchange is installed has 2.5GB of space. 3) There appears lots of information about what the causes of 'Back Pressure' are but, nothing very definitive on how to resolve it. Do i need to buy Easeus and resize my partitions? Even when their appears to be space available. One thing i have discovered is that after a restart of the server, i buy myself about 3-4 days where everything works fine again. Any help or advice on this would be excellent. Thanks in advance.

We have two cover supervisors who need to both receive the cover work (and stuff) for the day by email. In Zimbra, I was able to give them both an alias of cover@... and they both received the mail. Problem - Exchange is less than happy with this setup and it doesn't allow it. The solution is obviously to have a shared mailbox which they both have access to. The question is which type do I use? None of the three options (User Mailbox, Room Mailbox and Equipment Mailbox) really describe what I'm trying to do and I'm not 100% sure on the difference between them. Suggestions people

Having just migrated from 2003 to 2010 our students accessed email via the owa, as they were on a domain pc they were not required to log in as they were using windows integrated authentication. If anyone accessed via webmail@... They were required to enter username and password. I have looked at the settings for 2010 and I can't seem to have this facility in 2010; you can't have forms based and integrated auth on at the same time. Am I missing a trick here? Any advice will be greatly received.

BES Express is frankly shocking, I thought RIM may have improved after the travisty that was BPS but I think that they are even worse. Does RIM employ only cyfilidic howler monkeys as programers or must they all undergo a full labotomy to get their jobs. First off registering to get BES Express in New Zealand is impossible, I'm not exagerating, it actually is. Initially attempting to register with the companies address resulted in being told that the road did not exist. It has only been there for the last 60 years so I guess its a bit recent for them. Issue two was encountered when using a road that was accepted (100+ years old) and this is where the imposibility comes in. When you click submit it wipes the city field then returns an error that you must include a city. Firefox, Chrome, IE, it made no difference, neither did attempting different cities. Solution: register using an Australian address copied off their contact page, they at least know that their own address exists. Issue two, not really a fault but rather an annoyance is their rubbish slow servers, 100k a second turns a 560MB download into a long wait. Now to the install and after installing the many prerequsites manually and doing loads of configuration manually (have they heard of an installer wizard?) you finally get to the install. Suprisingly it installed without error, I'm not saying that there were not problems or that it worked but it did not make any error messages. After the install finished I got a lovely page telling me that I now just needed to go to this web page to continue configuring it. Problem, the webpage does not work, no helpful error, nothing, just a timeout. Re-reading through the common issues it turns out that BES in its infinite incompetence does not handle multiple network cards well. It is supposed to be put on a server and it has problems with multiple NICs, who are these people. So solution found, push the right interface up to the top of the bindings list in networking advanced properties and it should work... Should, as it fails in the exact same way. More internet searching and attempts to find solutions eventually reveil that BES fails when either of two Windows hotfixes are installed. This is a known issue with no fix timeline but thats fine the workaround is just to remove them. They are unimportant only patching kernel escilation issues, its not like you would want your server to be pretected from complete compromise anyway. Remove these two and restart the server, is the problem solved? No. Same issue. At this point I'm looking to the free support incident as the only way to even get this mad bit of overhyped java running and log into the support portal, go to make a support incident and the button is greyed out. Really, how do I raise an incident about not being able to raise an incident. It makes my head spin. Religated to the fact that I would have to make this steaming pile of filth run all by myself I continued the fight. Eventually comming to the realisation, after reading through 100 or so pages of error logs that BAS (the blackberry administration service) can't connect to the SQL server. The installer defaults to using dynamic ports and to strive for a problem free install I had left the defaults. My mistake, turns out that that does not work if there are any other instances of SQL on the box at all. First I needed to make sure the SQL Browser service was running then after configuring the SQL instance to use the default port on the all ips instance and removing the setting for dynamic it finally kicked into life. The above does not even include the need to manually setup firewall rules for it or the hunt for the right CDO with MAPI compnents to install. So after wasteing only five hours of my time it was installed, I have still to find out if it even works with the Blackberries. I just want to know how they get away with releasing such junk, the coding level would even make an educational software developer blush in embaresment. How have the developers not been hunted down and delt with by angry IT workers from their local area. The mind boggels and I can only look foward to the day when all of their Blackberries are replaced with something that uses Activesync, at this point I would even settle for iPhones. Has BES made anyone else criminally angry lately or is it just me?

Hi Forum Our company has upgraded to MS Exchange server 2010 Sp1 but now my Imap PHP scripe does not connect or does not receive a reply from Exch 2010. We use to have Exch 2007 Sp2 and it worked fine. $username="domain/user"; $password="password"; $mbox=imap_open("{172.16.0.73:143/imap}Inbox",$username,$password); I have also tried $mbox=imap_open("{172.16.0.73:143/imap/novalidate-cert}Inbox",$username,$password); Is there something different in the way one should connect to Exch 2010 compared to Exch 2007?. Our Exch administrators sais that Imap is enabled. The response I get from imap_last_error() is "[CLOSED] IMAP connection broken (server response)" Can anyone help? Regards,

We have had an issue with email for a while. We have exchange 2010 behind an isa 2006 firewall. This is then on a virgin media big red connection. Also connected into this connection is our frog vle. Some of our senders can send email to us with no problems. But we have some senders who can't and they get a ndr return of 554 5.7.1 relay not allowed. The thing is this ndr is not being returned by our exchange server, it is being returned by the ip address from our frog vle. All our mx records on the Internet are correct and external pings, nslookups and trace routes back correct. We use the frog vle for our website which is using the same domain as our exchange email but not using the email on the frog vle with the same domain. Has anyone any suggestions or ideas of what this may be? I have paid for engineering time for this issue and it has still not been solved. Any help would be fantastic.

Hello, I have a pretty good understanding of exchange, but this is stumping me. When I terminate a user, I back up their e-mail, disable and delete their AD account and create a distribution list to forward mail to the manager, etc. Well, it turns out internal e-mails are not forwarding, only external. An internal client who e-mails this terminated employee gets a bounce-back error - proclaiming the mailbox does not exist. When someone external e-mails this terminated user, it forwards to the recipients just fine. I added the smtp e-mail to the e-mail addresses tab - as I have always done. What's extra strange is that this happens most the time, but in some cases internal and external forwarding work just as it should for random users... configurations are identical. Any ideas? Thanks in advanced.

We're running Exchange 2010, SP2. We have a user running Outlook 2010 (like all our staff) who is prompted for a username and password on a very regular basis when using Outlook. It doesn't matter whether they enter this information or not, it doesn't actually stop them being able to send or recieve new emails, but it is incrediably annoying being prompted all the time for said info. We had similar behaviour in Outlook 2007 and for the most part the upgrade to 2010 solved the issue, expect for this user who is a new starter. Now, I've looked on Edugeek and the interwebs in general and despite there being simply hundreds of potential solutions, none seem to have any effect. Hoping someone might be able to help me out!

Hello everyone, I need some help/advice regarding our Exchange 2010 setup. We have our Exchange Server up and running. Everything is running great, apart from the fact that teachers/users are not happy with the way in the which the address lists work. I have the following issues: All users appear in the Global Address List. This is no issue for me, but teachers don't want students to be able to be able to send them an email at the click of a button. They want them hiding from here in order to discourage them from sending teachers emails Teachers are concerned that by having addresses available for everyone in the Global Address List may lead to some teachers accidently sending confidential emails to students. Teachers want a seperate address list for both staff and students. The staff address book should include all the correct groups, such as "heads of year", "form tutors" etc. Students should not be able to access the staff address book, but staff should be able to access both staff AND student address books So far I have created both address lists, and restricted the correct permissions to these via ADSIEDIT.MSC. I think I'm going in the right direction, but I still have the following problems: In order to hide students from the Global Address List, I have to set all students to be hidden from ALL lists, thus making the student address list totally pointless Groups don't seem to be able to be created inside my customer address lists. When I create them they only seem to show in the Global Address List. Please let me know if you think that my users are asking for too much from this. I'm pretty new to Exchange administration, but it feels like too much is being expected of this. How do you guys run your Exchange environment? Do you just populate it all and let it run it's course, or do you try and police it by trying to lock it all down? I'd be really interested to find out. Regards, Sven.

Hi all We have an Exchange 2010 server and I am trying to get a specific email address to forward any incoming email to a distribution group. I have set up the forwarding happily through the management console so it redirects to the created distribution group. The distribution group consists of internal and external contacts. I have created the external people as mail contacts and I can send them an email by using this mail contact in the normal way but when they are part of a distribution group it fails to send, however the internal contacts work. We have other external distribution groups and we can send emails to these external addresses happily but it seems the forwarding element causes an issue. I have looked at the Message Delivery Restrictions on the email address, mail contacts and distribution group and ensured the require that all senders are authenticated is unticked but it still won't send to external mail contacts. Have I missed anything? Thanks Mark

I'm migrating from one exchange 2010 to another 2010 system and have migrated the mailboxes but I can't seem to migrate the public folder contents or delete the old public folder. I'm getting an error that states that a public folder is the default folder for a mailbox that is no longer attached to either of the systems.

Hi you knowledgeable people, I'm hoping you can give me some advice on how to setup a new virtualised infrastructure in the charity I work for. We currently have 2 sites (details below), approx 200 staff, which work on shifts (we operate 24/7). Current setup: 2 sites (HQ & Branch) connected via 20Mb leased line. HQ setup: Dell 2900 Server - running Win Server 2003, DC, Exchange 2003, file (DFS) and print server, Sage Line 50, Eset AV (so its a bit crowded) Small HP microserver - running Win 2008 R2 - SQL server express Approx 40 desktop PCs running XP A couple of desktops running Win 7 Branch: Desktop PC - running Win 2003, DC, file and print Approx 12 desktop PCs running XP Hardware available for new setup: 2 x HP DL380G6 (2 cpu, 18GB RAM, 2 x 146GB 10k SAS, 3 x 300Gb 10k SAS) - initially purchased for Hyper-V hosts 2 x HP DL180G6 (don't have the spec on hand) - initially purchased for storing DPM backups This hardware was purchased about 1 year ago with the plan being 1 of each type of server used as each site, but due to various different reasons I couldn't do anything with them until now. I'd also like to keep any new purchases down to an absolute minimum. We already have some enterprise 2008 R2 licences and due to use being a charity MS licences are very cheap. My thoughts / plans are: At HQ: HyperV host using HP DL380G6 - will call it HyperV1 Maybe take a hard drive and some RAM from other DL380 ? So it could have 24Gb RAM, 2 x 146GB for host OS, 4 x 300GB RAID5 for virtual machines. Use it to host: VM1 -Exchange 2010 (approx 200 users, half of these are very light users, most of the rest would be medium, with a few heavy users) VM2 - Sage VM3 - DC with file and print server VM4 - SQL server (or express) Use a DL180 with DPM to backup these servers Keep Dell 2900, keep as Physical DC & file server, Eset AV At Branch: Use a DL380G6 setup as Hyper-V host - call it HyperV2 Use it to host: VM1 - DC with File and print Have capacity to setup another VM to use as backup exchange server incase anything happens Exchange server in HQ Use a DL180 to keep backups using DPM of the DL180 in HQ Any thoughts on this ? What I'm trying to achieve is all data (Exchange, network files, sage backups etc) sufficiently backed up e.g. backups from HQ stores in branch site If anything was to happen to HyperV1 it wouldn't cripple the company. Further down the line I'd like to move all PCs to Win 7 Is RAID 5 going to be OK with Exchange 2010 for the relatively small number of users ? I'd like to use RAID 10 but that would mean purchasing more harddrives which I'd like to try and avoid if possible. Anything else I've forgotten about ? I'd really appreciate any help / advice you can give me. Mark

Hiya. Any exchange 2010 experts advice would be greatly appreciated! As a little background, on Friday having been running our server 2008 R2 network on just an additional DC without a FRDC for a while (waiting for our hardware support supplier to see if the FRDC was recoverable), we finally seized roles to the additional DC and promoted it to a FRDC. We then added the fixed, but wiped server back onto the domain as an additional DC (you could say that the roles had been swapped in effect) with a different name. All seemed fine. I also took the opportunity to upgrade our AV on the servers to the latest version (in hindsight a bad idea to make too many changes at the same time). Over the weekend I realise that the exchange server isn't working and upon remote desktop in, it has lost its connection with AD - neither DC is contactable for LDAP traffic. After much fiddling I decide that the AV's firewall might be blocking the traffic and to eliminate it, I uninstalled it on the DCs and exchange. Things seemed okay, but coming into school on the Monday, its not working again. Again, much fiddling later everything is working, Outlook can connect to exchange, emails can come and go just fine, etc, but its come to light that some emails sent externally into school during the weekend have either been corrupted or simply didn't arrive anywhere. Senders it appears didn't receive any notification of problems. To make matters worse, we have a number of vacancies with closing dates this week for which applicants may have applied, but we never received anything. An example of a corrupted email is (I've edited out the actual email addresses): From: To: Subject: Maths Teacher Application --86090315-2024142612-1424596625=:80392-- And that's it. The line in the body looks like a multipart boundary to me. With the corrupted ones, we can at least email the sender to ask them to resend, but ones that are missing - any idea where I could look for traces? I've checked the receive connector and it wasn't set for diagnostic logging. Many thanks in advance, Meldrew.

Hi All By default on a exchange 2010 box when you login as a user say though OWA I have noticed that you can search for another user in the address book to send them an email, but also you have the chance to view there calendar entries. Granted they just show up as busy but is there any way to stop this, so users can’t view them? Unless access is given to another users mailbox?? Many Thanks in advance

Hi, Has anybody ever come across this issue before. Site Specs Server 2008 R2 + Exchange 2010, clients running W7 x64 and Office 2013. When opening Outlook 2013 the connection status shows as connected the jumps to disconnected, then to connecting then finally back to connected. This happens in a loop for roughly ten minutes or more until all new mail has been downloaded and then settles down afterwards. Its not hardware related we don't think, as no other connectivity issues are occurring. Any ideas anyone? Cheers

Hi Guys, I'm trying to block zip files from coming into our exchange server. I've done a little research and found that this is achieved by using the Transport Rules. I have created a rule with the following; Apply rule to messages when an attachment's content matches text patterns " *.zip" (without the "") ".zip" Delete the message without notifying anyone As far as i'm concerned, this looks correct. I then restart the transport service for good measure and then test it from an external source. The email arrives to my mailbox with a it's zip attachment. Any ideas? Thanks, Pete

We have mail universal security/distribution groups. What happens to them when exchange 2010 is uninstalled - Do they get removed from AD or does AD retain them?

Hello all, I have a few questions about a new Exchange 2010 setup I am supporting. It is spread over 4 servers. 2 CAD's and 2 Mailbox servers. The Cad's are also the hub transport servers. There is no Edge Transport server. They have several e-mail domains and they are all setup as accepted domains. Although there is no one Authoritative domain set as yet. The reason for this I think is there is also a pop server (mdaemon) which there are still some pop accounts on and historically was the main mail server. That then pushes mail from those accounts to the exchange server. I have setup a separate e-mail mailbox for one of those other email domains but it is not receiving. I am able to send from that account but not recieve. The Exchange servers have the receiver connectors setup for this account. But there are other pre-existing accounts on this domain that do work fine, so I mimicked them as far as I can see, but still no joy. I know I need to probably try track the message to see if it is even appearing on the Exchange radar. but it will not let me do that without an Authoritative domain setup. So I suppose my question is, will setting it up with an Authoritative domain make it try take over from the other pop server? And if not then will it potentially solve any of my problems? Or at least be a step in the right direction? Otherwise is there anything else I should be looking at? Do I need to put an Edge transport server in play? Thanks much in advance.

We have started to use EOP for our exchange server. We have setup all the mailflow and connectors to and from office 365. However, we have run into some issues with Smoothwall. Smoothwall will not port forward, port 25 to the Exchange server unless the SMTP Relay is turn on. ( we have all the port forwarding setup on Smoothwall) This is having a massive problem as Smoothwall still thinks it the SMTP relay sending out emails. So we have two IP addresses sending out emails. (big no no in emailing terms) Has anyone else got this setup? if so does it work?
