Hi All I am looking for a way to implement different types of authentication for OWA on Exchange 2013. I want to use forms-based authentication for users who are connection from outside the local network, and standard authentication for users who are on-site (logged onto my network using their AD credentials). Does this make sense - if you are in school, you get automatically logged on when accessing OWA, but if you are off site, you get promoted with the form. This is all to avoid the user having to enter the domain name when logging in from home! Thanks everyone!

Having just migrated from 2003 to 2010 our students accessed email via the owa, as they were on a domain pc they were not required to log in as they were using windows integrated authentication. If anyone accessed via webmail@... They were required to enter username and password. I have looked at the settings for 2010 and I can't seem to have this facility in 2010; you can't have forms based and integrated auth on at the same time. Am I missing a trick here? Any advice will be greatly received.

Hey peeps, I am in the process of setting up OWA for the college, something I have never done before. I managed to setup OWA on the Exchange Server Localhost now I just need to find out how I can access it via the internet. After a lot of googling and talking to some companies that have done this before a quick an easy method is to apparently use a spare External IP address (which I have obtained from my ISP) and NAT that publc IP to my Private IP address. I have an internal and external ISA servers and a Exchange Server. I just don't know where to start really. Do I set up that NAT forward on the ISA server? Exchange is 2007 and Threat Management Gateway 2010 on the ISA. I also have a SSL certificate from my ISP which is setup, so obviously that needs to be applied to the whole login bit, but for now, I just need a push in the right direction. I have also looked at DMZs etc, but quick and easy for now, experimentation later lol Any help would be much appreciated, thanks guys!! /Dan

Its baffling us, and we have tried pretty much everything - updates, etc. It started when we had a large amount of the 'autorun' virus so Sophos was hogging all the memory. We have since put sophos on its own server, but we still have this problem. Has anyone experienced this before? mb

A single user reports problems with OWA in IE. When trying to access the sign-in page we see a blank page, after an IIS 7 splash screen flashes up for a split second. We're running IE 11 and Windows 7. Chrome appears to handle the page OK; we can log in, but subsequently the user can't add attachments to e-mails. Outlook itself is fine. Any help appreciated. Paul.

Does anyone know what the direct URL is to open a new email in office365 Outlook Web App (2013)? We are looking at getting mailto links to open in OWA instead of Outlook, but each url we have tried just takes us to our inbox.

Anyone experiencing problems with attaching files to e-mail in OWA on a rangered PC? It would appear that anything up to about 125kB is fine but anything over that just sees the "Attachements - Web Page dialog" screen hang. I did try using the S/MIME Control and this seemed to make things better but OWA crashed when the e-mail was sent. I have removed Ranger and the attachments are fine. PCs are RM Ecoquiets; XP SP3, OS pretty well up to date. Paul Vernon Bracknell Forest

I have 1 teacher who can't see emails sent from contacts outside the organisation whilst using OWA. In their 2010 Outlook all is fine all emails visible. So only in exchange's 2007 owa (now in rubbish mode thanks to ie11) they can only see a list of emails from contacts within the school. The owa inbox count shows the same unread quantity as the full outlook and if I do a search for a particular externally sent email it will show up and can be read from owa. I have pressed every button, looked at all the options, I cannot find a filtering rule or any rules in general that would cause this kind of behaviour? Ideas? (Do I need a PC with ie9 on to set a setting?)

Hi all, does anyone who uses CLEO in Cumbria have there own exchange box accessible via there CLEO connection? We are upgrading our Exchange box which does all our own email from 2000 so we can use Outlook Web Access and new features offered by newer versions of Exchange. But we want staff to be able to access emails from home as well with the new system. Now this will mean it needs direct access to the box from the web via CLEO. Has anyone done this or can point us in the direction of if and easiest way of CLEO doing this for us please. I am new to working in Cumbria so not familiar with CLEO myself so don't want to find i'm not asking the right person the question or missing a bit of paper etc... We ideally want it so staff can go to webmail.ourschool.cumbria.sch.uk if possible. Cheers!

Hi, Over Christmas I have upgraded our Ex2003 to Ex2007 and it all went very smoothly. Our remote users can login fine using the https://mail.Schoolname/owa. The old server used to do OWA through the url https://mail.schoolname/exchange and this is where I'm having a problem. I would like to set up a redirect if possible, so any user using the /exchange url gets an automatic redirect to the /owa url. We dont use an ISA server, so would need to do this via the IIS on the 2k8 server if it is at all possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Graham

Hi We use outlook web app as part of office 365 for emails. Every morning a member of staff will send an email to all staff, this will work fine and people will reply and she can respond. However about half an hour to an hour later she will send another email to all staff but this time it will cause several members of staffs (but not all) browser to crash. Their isn't anything fancy in or attached to the email, its just plain text and different content every day. The problem will follow a user across different PC's that they log into. I have deleted the users profile and appdata and it still occurs. We have edge and chrome browser installed on users PC's and the problem occurs on both browsers. I installed Firefox for a user who was experiencing the issue and the problem didn't occur in that browser. Also if we change the reading pain to be at the bottom of the screen or off then the problem doesn't occur. so in a nut shell if a user opens the email in a chromium based browser with the reading pain in the default place then it crashes the browser. Has anyone experienced any thing like this or any suggestion as to what might be causing it? Thanks

Hoping someone can give me a bit of a clue as to why we are having an issue with logging into OWA. Basically, using Firefox, Opera, Chrome or Safari everything works fine. HOWEVER using IE we are having a annoying but not catastrophic issue. You get the pop up box for username and type in your username and password as per the other browsers. This does not log you in though, it errors and gives the username in the box as the site ie. mail.domain.county.sch.uk\Username it should take you there automatically by putting in DOMAIN\Username. If you put in DOMAIN\username it works. This has only changed within the past few weeks but the person that used to manage all this has been made redundant and now I am in charge and I want to fix it! I am guessing it is an IIS issue but not sure where to start looking or what to change. Thanks for any help/suggestions! T

Apologies that I had asked a similar question about 8 months back but never acted on it as at the time I didn't have the time to try the different solutions out and I don't actually think that any of them would have provided us with what we need. Scenario: Our head is leaving at easter. For the summer term, there will be a teacher acting as head. Then the new head will take over from the summer. All our staff have their own personal login by name. They have Exchange mailboxes associated with these, most of them being internal only email addresses, but a limited number have external email addresses. There are a number of roles within the school, head, bursar, registrar etc that have a role related email address. These are set as the primary email addresses for the users that undertake these roles, but they remain user mailboxes. These email addresses are use to send and receive email from/to the school. We have a couple of other roles (office, info) which is used only to receive external emails. There is no pressing requirement to send email from these addresses other than to reply to or internally forward received emails. These are attached to a role based AD user and has no one person associated with it. The role based email addresses are shared by different users who have share permissions setup to read and reply these role mailboxes, whether or not it is a personal mailbox (head, burser, registrar) or a non personal mailbox (office, info). Requirement: I would like to differentiate role based mailboxes from personal based mailboxes. So, for the change of head scenario, I would like to setup a mailbox for 'head' and give the current head full access to the mailbox and initially the acting head read access, then when the head leaves, give the acting head read write to the mailbox, then when the new head starts, give the new head full access. If I get this working for the head, I can then split out the other role based mailboxes into permsonal and roles. Environment: Windows Server 2008R2, Exchange 2010, Outlook 2003, 2007, option for 2010. We are licensed for 2010 on some machines but prefer initially to stick with Office 2007. Outlook 2010 is probably not an option on the new heads machine and the acting head will need Outlook 2003. OWA is also used. Method in use so far: Currently, everything works OK. It could be better, but it was one of those things that was low priority and as I give my time on a voluntary basis, I was not going to spend too much on if there was not a need for anything else. We are currently using sharing from within Outlook but there are two issues that cause a problem meaning that it does not work as I would like: when accessing a role mailbox that is open on the mailbox list in outlook, there is no way of sending an email from this mailbox/role/user. If replying to an email, there is an option to select the 'from', but not when writing an email. if a user has multiple shared mailboxes open, there seems to be no way of setting a default mailbox such that all emails sent will go from the role based mailbox Any suggestions please. Hope this all makes sense. Thanks -Ian

Let me start off that I use to use Entourage 2008 and my work email worked wonderfully via OWA. I upgraded to the newest version of office 2011. I have tried to use DavMail but it is just not working very well. Getting errors and Java Null point exceptions. So I am looking for some clients I could use that support OWA. The issue I run into is I do not know my incoming and outgoing mail servers nor will IT tell me. They are very rude. Outlook on my work PC is not very helpful either. So could anyone let me know of a good client I could use on my Mac? Thanks

Having recently upgraded to Exchange 2010 an issue has been highlighted by some of our staff that searching is very slow and results are not displayed when searching using Outlook Web App. If you enter a search term and wait for the searching dialog box to apper, then click refresh, the results are displayed - but they never seem to appear on there own. Does anybody have any ides why this might be?

Hi, At the moment we have a lot of students misusing computers, internet and email. We currently have two VB Scripts which disable the students account or internet, the first disables their full computer account and adds the details of the ban which are entered into the script to a database. The second script makes the student a member of a AD group called "no internet access" this then blocks their access to the internet as our ISA does not accept them, they are also added to a database with the details of the ban. We then also have a script which runs every morning and looks at the dates in the database, if there are any which should be enabled on todays date, it will either remove them from the group or enable the account depending on the type of ban. I am trying to make a script that will disable their email account, as you are probably aware if you wish to disable an accounts OWA (outlook web access) you need to go to active directory, search for the user, go to properties, exchange features and then click on the disable button next to OWA. This is very time consuming, we do not have a record of the ban and also the account will not be automatically enabled on the set date. I am currently at a loss with this, as i have tried various scripts from various sites, none of which i can get to work. Any help with this would be much appreciated. Many Thanks David Phillips Winton Arts & Media College

Hi, We have Resource Calendars in Exchange 2013 for booking Rooms and vehicles. These work fine in Outlook. However, in OWA we cannot get the calendars to appear through a url we have on our Intranet. The only way I can get staff to access this is if I add staff to the Full Access part of Mailbox Delegation for that resource mailbox in ECP. This obviously gives all staff full permission which we don't want. What have I missed or need to do to enable access for staff. The error message is along the lines of Something has gone wrong. Any advice welcome.

Hello, We have just finished implementing Office 365 for our staff but most of the users are finding it hard to differentiate between 'read' and 'unread' emails. I have explained that there is a bar to the left of the unread emails and that the subject of the email is highlighted but this still isn't clean enough. We also tried different colour schemes but there was minimal improvement. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to improve this? Thanks Jake

Hi, We have currently got Exchange 2010 with the latest service pack installed, and therefore have the ability to share calendars over the internet. I've created a public calendar for school events to be displayed and we have a couple of users who keep it updated. This works fine when accessing it via the full URL > http://webmail.MySchool.com/owa/calendar/[email protected]/Calendar/calendar.html I can therefore embed this in our website within an iframe. Unfortunately, this doesn't display for users browsing the site from their phone (the page you're trying to reach can't be accessed with your web browser...), and when it does work, it looks pretty rubbish as it gets the default orange Outlook We App theme. Has anyone else done this more successfully? I appreciate I can't apply CSS to an iframe, so is there an alternative to an iframe? Ideally, I'd like to know whether there is a way of pulling out the calendar events from OWA and displaying them as a list on our website (maybe RSS?). We only have 4 or 5 events each week, so most of the calendar that gets displayed is empty anyway. I'd like to stick with OWA if possible as it's really easy for our users to update the calendar from within their Outlook client. Many thanks for any suggestions.

Hi, We are preparing to move all of our mail boxes from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010. I have noticed that if you click on your name in the top right corner of OWA 2010 you get the option to "Open Other Mailbox", and if you right click your name above your inbox in the left pane you see "Open Other User's Inbox". Is there anyway to hide/remove these options? I know that they do not work unless you give the user access to another mail box, but I would like to hide them anyway. Is this possible? Thanks in advance, Daniel
