Hi All I am looking for a way to implement different types of authentication for OWA on Exchange 2013. I want to use forms-based authentication for users who are connection from outside the local network, and standard authentication for users who are on-site (logged onto my network using their AD credentials). Does this make sense - if you are in school, you get automatically logged on when accessing OWA, but if you are off site, you get promoted with the form. This is all to avoid the user having to enter the domain name when logging in from home! Thanks everyone!

As Microsoft (for years!) have been guiding everyone away from the use of Public folders, can anyone please recommend any ideas to replace the way that we use Public Folders? We have a script that adds 3x mail enabled public folders to Outlook for all staff members. These are used for "Urgent Staff Notices", "Heads Notices" and "Daily Bulletins" These are available there and then to everyone from within Outlook at a quick glance as they are always there at the top left in Outlook. We didn't want staff to have to load any additional webpages or log into any other system, we just wanted them there straight away without any additional work at a glance! Does anyone please have an alternative suggestion please? We are currently a hybrid setup and I would rather avoid the Microsoft exchange/O365 hybrid PS1/CSV PF solution! Thanks in advance

So first intake with the new exchange server, unlike the old 2007 I can't bulk select 117 users and click create mailbox. Now I have to use the superior powershell method! or do it 1 at a time Enable-Mailbox [email protected] -Database "Mailbox Database 0768102315" This command works great is simple and clear! Now how to use it with the other 116 pupils? I'm thinking I need to tell it to look at a csv how do I do this. I think that the CSV only needs the upn in it. Examples on line seem to include unnecessary details in the CSV and use them in the script? SIDENOTE: This is the first step I'll migrate to o365 later. (if I give the pupils emails from within o365, although they work the local exchange server is unaware of them, I worry what that may mean in the future.) Hybrid.

Hi Guys, I'm after a little bit of advice we currently have a 2013 Exchange VM on site sat in hybrid mode. I have had nothing to do with the original process to get it in its current state. I have just adopted the mess and am noticing more and more issues with it the hybrid tool is currently failing to connect to 365 but I believe this may be down to the fact it hasn't been updated for a good while. I would like to decommission the VM and move the remaining mailboxes and roles up too 365 At the moment we cannot create Alias's in 365 or do a lot of simple admin tasks without using the Exchange VM Has anyone got any decent guides to do this Thanks Jake

Hi All, I have just been able to install exchange 2013 onto a new server along side another server running Exchange 2010. I am in the middle of migrating to 2013. I am checking the mail flow on the new Exchange 2013. I am able to send mail to both internal and external Mailboxes but i cannot receive anything at all. I have checked the accepted domains and i am sure the receive connectors are correct. Am i missing something? Any one else had this issue? Thanks All

Afternoon Guys, Got yet another issue with DPM. working with DPM 2012r2 and im trying to backup an exchange 2013 server as a VM. It creates the initial replica then it tries to do the first sync and i immediately get this error. An unexpected error occurred while the job was running. (ID 104 Details: Call context cannot be accessed after call completed (0x80010117) Ive googled this and have had pretty much no luck at all, the call context cannot be accessed part of the error seems to be a generic error that covers a wide variety of issues, just wondered if anyone has come across this error before with DPM Ive checked the event viewer and there are no errors logged related to this, unless im looking in the wrong place? im checking the application logs and asking DPM to publish alerts to EV just tells me the same error that DPM is showing any help would be greatly appreciated -Vicky Tofield IT technician for The Hatton Academies Trust

We upgraded to Exchange 2013 during the summer as all seemed to be well. However on client computers when accessing Calendars in Outlook 2010 occasionally it will go to not responding for maybe 2-3 mins before opening up Calendars also, when using Shared Calendars, even though a user has Author or even Owner permissons on another Calendar the New Appointment is Greyed out and the User has to submit as request to the Calendar owner. However on other occasions it is absolutley fine. We also have shared Booking facilities that we use a URL and OWA. However since Exchange 2013 Users now need to enter their Username and Password before they see the shared Calendar, In Exchange 2007 they could get straight into the Calendar. I have tried removing and re-adding the permissions using Exchange Powershell and this has had no affect. Any advice welcome

At the beginning of year year I have to create mailboxes for any new students in a particular OU. In the past I have accomplished this by using powershell like : Get-User -OrganizationalUnit "domain.local/SchoolA/Users/Students/09" | Enable-Mailbox The problem with this is, when users in that OU already have a mailbox it creates a problem and doesn't just error out on those users. It seems to create incorrect aliases for the new users and the existing users go back to being "User" mailboxes instead of being O365 mailboxes (we're running in a hybrid environment). Is there a clean way with powershell to enable-mailbox on a whole OU but skip any accounts that already have a mailbox? Any help would be appreciated.

I want migrated email accounts (cloud accounts) to be able to email local accounts (still here on my exchange), I've opened up port 25 to the Microsoft smtp servers but the emails are still not getting through. is there a simple rule I can give SWGFL? I can't just put ALL (webIP's) to port 25 of my 2013 exchange box public ip. The list of allowed ip ranges I got from the Microsoft website are as follows: 13.107.6.152/31 13.107.9.152/31 13.107.18.10/31 13.107.19.10/31 23.103.160.0/20 23.103.224.0/19 40.96.0.0/13 40.104.0.0/15 70.37.151.128/25 111.221.112.0/21 131.253.33.215/32 132.245.0.0/16 134.170.68.0/23 157.56.96.16/28 157.56.96.224/28 157.56.106.128/28 157.56.232.0/21 157.56.240.0/20 191.232.96.0/19 191.234.6.152/32 191.234.140.0/22 191.234.224.0/22 204.79.197.215/32 206.191.224.0/19 207.46.150.128/25 207.46.203.128/26

We've recently made the move from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 and despite a few hiccups, everything seems to have gone across ok. However, we've recently started getting reports from staff that emails coming in to Microsoft Outlook is very slow, taking from 15 to 30 mins for new emails to come through. Although if they use Outlook Web App, they find the emails are there straight away. The Exchange 2013 box is a VM with 6 cores allocated to it and 16gb RAM. Does anyone have any ideas as to what would be causing Outlook to be syncing rather slowly?

We're struggling, being part of the way along the yellow brick road to Office 365. We have an O365 tenant of myschool.com, but our legacy inhouse servers were using myschool.lea.sch.uk. We want to get an Exchange 2013 server alongside or in place of our Exchange 20101 server prior to completing the move to hybrid O365, mostly because sources suggest that the wizard in the 2013 client access role helps. This is where we are: I've added our new domain to the Exchange accepted domains, so we now happily accept mail on the new domain. I've changed the email address policy to send from the new domain. I installed a new Exchange 2013 server, set all virtual directories to be in the new domain and installed a wildcard certificate. I reconfigured the SCPs to use external hostnames, have set up external and split-brain internal DNS for the new domain and mucked about with outlook anywhere settings until they look sensible This setup (almost) works, in that mailboxes on the 2010 server have not been broken and a test mailbox on the 2013 server works (but requires login). However a mailbox migrated from 2010 to 2013 cannot be accessed - an Outlook client generates a certificate error whilst apparently looking for the full (external) name of the 2010 server, which is odd considering that the old server need no longer be concerned with this mailbox. Anyway, all of the above is background but may be relevant. To bring the new server into play I simply swung over the nat rule in our firewall, adding any necessary exclusions. Incoming traffic (mail and owa) was now routed to the new server. It all seemed to work. BUT - we couldn't send to the outside world. The send connector is still sending from the old server, so naturally had lost its nat setup. As send connectors are organisation-wide settings I can find no way to force the system to send from the new server. Any ideas?

Can anyone please help us out here... Exchange 2013 CU7 Computers in AD - Autodiscover works perfectly, email pre-entered, next, ok and there all set as normal Home computers - Email and passwords manually entered, one windows authentication pop-up and all set. On Premises workgroup PCs - email and password entered, we get two of the three green ticks and then "The name could not be matched to a name in the address list" ? When testing with exchange connectivity tests all is fine. We have split DNS setup and all entries entered point to the exchange server. Can anyone please suggest what could be causing this or where we should start to look?? were stumped! Thanks in advance

We are running Exchange 2013/Exchange Online in a hybrid configuration. Beginning yesterday, users whose mailboxes are in O365 cannot seem to send messages to any external recipients. They receive a bounced message almost immediately saying "Security or Policy Settings at domain.com have rejected your message." They are still able to send messages successfully to another organization mailbox even if the mailbox is on-prem. Doing message trace on the two messages, this seems to be the difference: TO ON-PREM MAILBOX: EVENT: Send DETAIL: Message sent to mail.domain.com at xx.xx.xx.xxx TO EXTERNAL MAILBOX: EVENT: Send DETAIL: Reason: [{LED=550 5.7.1 Unable to relay};{MSG=};{FQDN=mail.domain.com};{IP=xx.xx.xx.xxx};{LRT=5/3/2016 12:29:14 PM}]. OutboundProxyTargetIP: xx.xx.xx.xxx. OutboundProxyTargetHostName: mail.domain.com ----------------------- mail.domain.com and the xx.xx.xx.xxx ip address both point at our on-prem exchange server. This is happening for every O365/exchange online user, but, again, only affects messages to external recipients.

Hi, We have Resource Calendars in Exchange 2013 for booking Rooms and vehicles. These work fine in Outlook. However, in OWA we cannot get the calendars to appear through a url we have on our Intranet. The only way I can get staff to access this is if I add staff to the Full Access part of Mailbox Delegation for that resource mailbox in ECP. This obviously gives all staff full permission which we don't want. What have I missed or need to do to enable access for staff. The error message is along the lines of Something has gone wrong. Any advice welcome.

So here goes... i had an exchange 2013 server with cu 6 installed happily running no issues for years, never had a reason to apply updates and with starting to think about migration to 2016 wanted to bring the server up to date with the cumulative updates. Noticing that microsoft only provide downlaoad links for the last 2 updates i had no choice but to jump up drastically to update the server. All seemed to be going well until the step of installing language packs. The setup failed and told me it failed due to another version of the product being installed so install halted and all services disabled. I searched and searched the internet which led to copying files from other working servers, deleting reg keys, all to no avail. In add/remove programs it had already changed the entry to exchange server 2013 with cu 18 . changing the services back to automatic and rebooting including iis resulted in owa and ecp being broken and unable to load . I found language packs from another server and uninstalled what i could with no change when trying to re-run the setup. I was now in state of a broken inaccessible server by outllok, owa and ecp. at one point it did ask for the language pack msi for CU6 but i not longer had the files and no where to be found online. My last resort was to spin up a new vm and install exchange on a second server. as the information store was still accessible in the broken server i was able to carry out mailbox migrations to the second server using the ecp on the new server. What would be the normal solution in this situation be when an update refuses to install and breaks it. i now cannot uninstall exchange from the original server as it says an error - re-run setup. Therefore i don't see any other way to get the original server working again or without manually removing it somehow and finding some instructions online. Any exchange experts able to help get the original server back functioning or advise to do a manual removal of it including from AD? Thanks.

Hello, Quick question. School with around 150 full time staff and 1,500 pupils. We recently moved from on-site ForeFront Protection for Exchange (2007) to the hybrid Exchange Online Protection (Exchange 2013 server in-house with EOP for relay and scanning etc). Last year, ForeFront covered Exchange Online Protection on our EES (Open Value Subscription Education Solutions). The Exchange specific costs came in at around £200 last year for 150 staff users and 1,500 pupils. Renewal is now up and we're being told the cost will be just short of £12k for Exchange / EOP! - part numbers; 312-04097 Exch Svr Std Lsa 1Y E Ap x1 (server) DS2-00001 Exchonlnpln2Opnfcltyshrdsvr E 1M (12 Months) x145 (staff) DR2-00001 Exchonlnpln2Opnstdntshrdsvr 1M Stdnt (12 Months) x1,240 (pupils) 381-04239 Microsoft Exchange Server Standard CAL x1,240 (pupils) I'm sure I've seen people mention EOP being part of EES (or very little cost if on EES) on Edugeek in the past. Am I being quoted/advised wrong or is this the new price model of EOP? Thanks in advance, Dan

Hi, Just wondered what you guys did for your students with mailboxes in the cloud for when they forget their password? DirSync if I remember updates Azure every 3 hours, so do you force a sync? Update the PW in the cloud and enable AD writebacks? Something else? Thanks in advance!! Ex 2013CU7/Hybrid/Office 365

WARNING - Skype for Business Server 2015 has a normalization/matching bug - problem for those with Exchange Auto Attendants This is a known issue that is being worked on by MS, fix is expected in q3 2015. Post with updates on this issue is here Original post is below Hi All, I have just upgraded Lync server 2013 to Skype for Business 2015 and now when trying to dial response groups through my UM auto attendant they fail with "The call cannot be transferred, returning to the main menu... The call cannot be transferred, returning to the main menu" and then the phone call cuts out. Calls to the response groups directly from an internal phone work fine, and so does dialling an individual users extension. It's just when trying to call from outside to a response group. Anybody got any ideas? (I'm going to update exchange to CU8 tonight as we are on an older rollup and hope that it helps) Many thanks, Seb EDIT: It seems like it's not able to recognise the extension, if i dial an extension that i know doesnt exist (like 9999) i get the same error in the logs. If i dial 5052 i get straight through to a person, but if i dial 5050 which is set up as a response group it fails. EDIT 2: I have checked that the cert assigned to UM and UMCallRouter has the correct subject name. I have also checked that refer support is set to none.

We've got an Exchange 2013 which we are slowly migrating mailboxes to (from Exchange 2010) and we keep running into a problem where if we set a password to be changed at logon or it's expired the user cannot logon. We have a registry entry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchange OWA\ChangeExpiredPasswordEnabled set to 1 on the CAS server but it doesn't work. The registry key was set at install I think (as I don't remember setting it) and a couple of weeks ago I saw it work, where I was prompted to change the password, now it's stopped again... I don't know why it keeps stopping, but as we plan to complete our migration to 2013 over the summer I need to get to the bottom of it. Any ideas?
