So first intake with the new exchange server, unlike the old 2007 I can't bulk select 117 users and click create mailbox. Now I have to use the superior powershell method! or do it 1 at a time Enable-Mailbox -Database "Mailbox Database 0768102315" This command works great is simple and clear! Now how to use it with the other 116 pupils? I'm thinking I need to tell it to look at a csv how do I do this. I think that the CSV only needs the upn in it. Examples on line seem to include unnecessary details in the CSV and use them in the script? SIDENOTE: This is the first step I'll migrate to o365 later. (if I give the pupils emails from within o365, although they work the local exchange server is unaware of them, I worry what that may mean in the future.) Hybrid.

Hi Everyone, I have a verystrange and annoying issue. Pupil home folder is fine, all present and correct. When the pupils logs in, it disappears... From the server! I restore the folder, check ACLs and it reappears (usually without them having to logoff. I'm not sure if this is just a one time thing, as it seems to be only happening once per user, but we have over 1200 pupil accounts. I have recently descovered that our setup of DFS-R sat in a 2012R2 VM stored on a CSV could be an issue, but i removed the DFSR last week. Any help would be great.

Hi, Not sure where to put this, but here goes. I'm looking at replacing our aging servers, and wanted to Migrate them to Hyper-V. I was looking at using a Dell SCv2020 with SAS connections back to a few Servers to run a Hyper-V Failover Cluster. My question is, and I apologise if its a stupid question, but everything I read just says the storage (and the connections to is) need to be iSCSI-3 capable, and that fibre channel is. However I wanted to use the 4x 12Gb SAS connections direct to the servers. Would I be able to setup a Hyper-V Failover Cluster with CSV using a SAS attached SAN? eg 4x servers with dual SAS HBA's, each connection to one of the 4 SAS ports on the SAN, (the SCv2020 SAN has dual controllers, so each server would connect to each controller) as per link or would I have to use iSCSI over Ethernet, or Fibre Channel or would you highly recommend against using SAS over any of the other two? Cheers in advance

I am hoping someone can help to clarify the following... We are running Outlook 2010, running off an Exchange 2003 server (not that I think this matters). Every year we carry out a CSV export of our main school calendar, which is in turn given to the company that manage our website to import into an online calendar. They haven't, up till now, had a facility to automatically sync between the two. However we noticed that there is a problem with calendar events that are marked as an "all day event". The event displays correctly in Outlook, but when exported to CSV, the start date and end dates are different. For example: OUTLOOK Bank Holiday, All day event, 27/05/13 CSV EXPORT Start Date - 27/05/13 Subject - Bank Holiday Start Time - 00:00:00 End Time - 00:00:00 End Date - 28/05/13 All day event - TRUE Am I right in assuming that the exported data is correct, and that actually there is no problem with the way Outlook/Exchange is handling the export? Interestingly I notice that when sending an appointment request via Outlook, the email contains similar information regarding the start date and end date (although once accepted, it appears correctly in the Outlook calendar). Is it therefore a problem with the way the website company is interpreting the data their end, when importing it into their own calendar system. Thanks!!

I have a CSV file containing about 1500 postcodes of students which we'd like to plot on a map to show where they travel from. I've Googled and Googled, and with there being a short deadline for this (Thursday) it's not really viable to delve deep into the Google Maps API and write my own solution. The closest I've come to in terms of using a web based service is ZeeMaps, but although I could import the CSV file, the final result wasn't as hoped (some markers were placed hundreds of miles from their corresponding postcodes). Has anybody done this before? How did you do it? I'm sure I have done in the past, but can't for the life of me think of the website I used to do so. Thanks in advance.

Hello all, It has come to my attention today that we are really low on space on our cluster shared volume. I deleted some old virtual machines that were pretty large (700GB) and have many more that can go to free up plenty of space however, I have made sure the files I have deleted are not in the recycle bin on any of the Nodes but the space hasn't changed on the cluster. I have looked for a hidden recycle bin in C:\ClusterStorage\Volume1 but cant find one. I did some research and found the sdelete command but gosh, I feel nervous about using this! Is there any easier way of reclaiming space? We have a Dell EqualLogic SAN and I looked at the SAN HQ software but couldn't find anything obvious. Any help would be very much appreciated. Gary

Hello, I have started a new job, I have a large list of accounts on Apple School, but the csv files that were created for all these accounts were not left for me by previous technician. Does anyone know of a 3rd party software/service that lets you extract the csv files from Apple School into your computer? I was told there are such service but I can't find them. Many thanks

[sims] Exporting Students to CSV - Header Names / Sample Data?
danmace posted a topic in MIS Systems
Hi All, I'm building a web and mobile app for my school that will require an import of SIMS data in a CSV file - that's the easy part!!! Trouble is, I don't have access to SIMS or a test / sample file - basically containing the header names like "DOB" or "Forename" etc. I was just wondering if anyone had a sample file or if anyone could give me a blank file? (just headers included) Thanks, Dan -
Hello all, I am attempting to compare a CSV File against an Active Directory Group. The outputs I want are: File1 - List of AD Group members who do not appear in CSV File2 - List of AD Group members who do appear in CSV, along with their IP Address and Timestamp of the entry. The CSV I have is auto-generated from a syslog server (It is output from Cisco Context Directory Agent) 2015-04-21 15:22:23,local0.notice,10.10.10.35, 2015-04-21T14:22:28.964Z 0000131841 40051 NOTICE ContextManager: Updated Mapping Record From Active Directory, cda-request={entity-attr:entity-id:ip=192.168.0.139, entity-attr:op=update, entity-attr:value:domain=MyDomain, entity-attr:value:mapping-origin=MyDomain, entity-attr:value:mapping-type=dc, entity-attr:value:responds-to-probe=true, entity-attr:value:time-stamp=2015-04-21T14:22:20Z, entity-attr:value:user-name=zoe}\n 2015-04-21 15:22:23,local0.notice,10.10.10.35, 2015-04-21T14:22:28.965Z 0000131842 40051 NOTICE ContextManager: Updated Mapping Record From Active Directory, cda-request={entity-attr:entity-id:ip=192.168.2.2, entity-attr:op=update, entity-attr:value:domain=MyDomain, entity-attr:value:mapping-origin=MyDomain, entity-attr:value:mapping-type=dc, entity-attr:value:responds-to-probe=true, entity-attr:value:time-stamp=2015-04-21T14:22:20Z, entity-attr:value:user-name=wash}\n 2015-04-21 15:22:25,local0.notice,10.10.10.35, 2015-04-21T14:22:31.196Z 0000131843 40051 NOTICE ContextManager: Updated Mapping Record From Active Directory, cda-request={entity-attr:entity-id:ip=192.168.3.2, entity-attr:op=update, entity-attr:value:domain=MyDomain, entity-attr:value:mapping-origin=MyDomain, entity-attr:value:mapping-type=dc, entity-attr:value:responds-to-probe=true, entity-attr:value:time-stamp=2015-04-21T14:22:21Z, entity-attr:value:user-name=river}\n 2015-04-21 15:22:29,local0.notice,10.10.10.35, 2015-04-21T14:22:35.652Z 0000131844 40051 NOTICE ContextManager: Updated Mapping Record From Active Directory, cda-request={entity-attr:entity-id:ip=192.168.0.13, entity-attr:op=update, entity-attr:value:domain=MyDomain, entity-attr:value:mapping-origin=MyDomain, entity-attr:value:mapping-type=dc, entity-attr:value:responds-to-probe=true, entity-attr:value:time-stamp=2015-04-21T14:22:26Z, entity-attr:value:user-name=simon}\n 2015-04-21 15:22:36,local0.notice,10.10.10.35, 2015-04-21T14:22:42.352Z 0000131845 40051 NOTICE ContextManager: Updated Mapping Record From Active Directory, cda-request={entity-attr:entity-id:ip=192.168.0.19, entity-attr:op=update, entity-attr:value:domain=MyDomain, entity-attr:value:mapping-origin=MyDomain, entity-attr:value:mapping-type=dc, entity-attr:value:responds-to-probe=true, entity-attr:value:time-stamp=2015-04-21T14:22:34Z, entity-attr:value:user-name=mal}\n So Far I can get a list of the AD Group members who have logged on in the last 7 days using this section, which saves a list of the usernames in alphabetical order in the $adusers variable # Set Date Parameter to 1 week ago $date = (Get-Date (Get-Date -Format d)).AddHours(-160) # Get list of users who are CDA group members and have logged on in the last week $adusers = get-aduser -filter {( memberof -recursivematch "CN=G-CDAUsers,OU=DomainGroups,DC=mydomain,DC=local") -and (lastlogondate -gt $date)} -Properties SamAccountName, lastlogondate | Select SamAccountName | Sort SamAccountName And I can import the CSV using this section $CDAMaps = import-csv -Path \\myserver\CiscoCDA.log -Header Time,Priority,Source,Data,ClientIP,A,B,C,D,E,F,Username|Select Time,ClientIP,Username Looking at the $CDAMaps Variable after this gives the following output Time ClientIP Username ---- -------- -------- 2015-04-21 15:22:23 cda-request={entity-attr:entity-id:ip=192.168.0.139 entity-attr:value:user-name=zoe}\n 2015-04-21 15:22:23 cda-request={entity-attr:entity-id:ip=192.168.2.2 entity-attr:value:user-name=wash}\n 2015-04-21 15:22:25 cda-request={entity-attr:entity-id:ip=192.168.3.2 entity-attr:value:user-name=river}\n 2015-04-21 15:22:29 cda-request={entity-attr:entity-id:ip=192.168.0.13 entity-attr:value:user-name=simon}\n 2015-04-21 15:22:36 cda-request={entity-attr:entity-id:ip=192.168.0.19 entity-attr:value:user-name=mal}\n At this point, however I am stuck. I cannot find a way to remove the surplus information from the Client IP and username lines and keep the table intact. Running a command such as $CDAMaps.ClientIP.TrimStart("cda-request={entity-attr:entity-id:ip=") Trims the surplus text from the IP Address field, but does not write these changes back to the table. Any suggestions on how to get this table formatted correctly, and how to then compare to my $adusers list to get the two outputs would be greatly appreciated Diolch

What do you do with requests to create and upload CSV files of student (and sometimes staff) data to various companies? This is usually so that students can log in to the companies websites. We are getting so many of these kind of requests recently, they are all going through the GDPR checks and we are happy that the data we are uploading is proportionate to the purpose of the website but each website invariably makes it very easy to upload all student data but then makes it difficult or least very time consuming to make changes to it or remove it. For example, we upload data to My Maths as a CSV file containing data for 1500+ students. The CSV file looks something like this... "Class","Forename","Surname" "Ma/123","Shaun","Wallace" "Ma/999","Mark","Labbett" Imagine that but with 1500+ lines of data. Pretty easy to create the CSV file, we have a script that pulls out the correct fields from SIMS for each company. The problems come when a student changes their name or Maths class. As you can see from the data that My Maths expects, there is no unique identifier included in the data. If I upload a new file containing... "Class","Forename","Surname" "Ma/123","Sean","Wallace" the system is just going to add a new student called Sean Wallace rather then update the spelling of the existing student Shaun Wallace. The only way to amend this data is to sign in to the My Maths website and use their front end to do it. This is an extremely time consuming process and means the data these companies hold can very quickly end up incorrect and out of date if we don't devote a lot of time to each of them. I have used My Maths as an example here. There are others of course. Kerboodle is another one that expects a CSV file and it actually does use a unique identifier column (we supply the admission number IIRC). However, if you upload a CSV file containing a line with a unique identifier that is already in their system, rather than update the existing record that it has identified, it rejects the whole CSV file. I've just been asked to create a CSV file for Hegaty Maths. This is another one that doesn't use a unique identifier field so it's very easy to upload a file with 1500+ lines of data but it's then not as easy to keep this up to date when names change or students leave. Why can no one come up with a workable CSV system? I want to upload a CSV file (ideally via an API, but I am happy to click browse on a website and do it that way), if the record exists update it with data from the CSV file and if the 'delete record' column in the CSV file is set to true, delete the record. It can't be that hard, can it? I suppose the problem is that these systems are sold to teachers on the strength of the learning resources and not the strength of the user administration, the companies then make a claim that they are GDPR compliant because, at least on paper, we are able to amend and delete the data so that means SLT are happy too but when it comes to the actual practicalities of managing this data, it's a nightmare of different web front ends which all work in different ways. I don't suppose there really is an answer to this but I just wanted to know I am not the only one going through this process.

Hey Guys, Just setup a Server 2019 Hyper-V LAB, with 2 nodes. The nodes have an iSCSI connection to a Dell MD3200i SAN, see this thread here regarding the setup: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/hardware/206389-home-lab-hyper-v-san-setup-advice.html When I copy something to the iSCSI Disk from the node, it was okay and I was getting around 230MB. Now, since turning this into a failover cluster, and adding the same iSCSI disk as a CSV, the performance is terrible! As a test, I copied a 4GB ISO to C:\ClusterStorage\Volume 1 and it copied at around 22MB, if I take the disk out of the cluster and copy the same file directly to the iSCSI disk, I get around 230MB which is what I would expect. (I think). I know some are going to shoot me down and say I shouldn't copy stuff to the CSV folder, so I created a VM on the CSV disk, the same speeds occure inside the VM, I get around 25MB. What could cause this issue? I can confirm the cluster is full patched to the latest level. Best regards James

All Our SLT are having a peek at SMIDReport a online cloud based tool for Assessment Analysis. Has anybody in the community used it and if so what are your thoughts / experience of the said product. I have had to upload some data (csv files of student / class / assessment data) to the cloud via an upload screen (which I hope isn't the way you do it in a live environment as the process depends on someone from within SMID processing the files on your behalf. Any info' would be most helpful. Regards , Phil

We swapped from Sharp MFP's to Konica... SLT thought saving £20 a year was worth days of troubleshooting and re-training everyone... Anyhow without going into the fart inducing, rage quit numbness that is Konica... Here is the kicker, the cream of "because"... I CAN NOT IMPORT USERS! I have to use the screen or the webpage to fill in the form..... 120 accounts by hand.. Thank to co-pilot I learned of AutoHotKey and it saved my sanity somewhat... I couldn't fully automate but I got enough done.. cost neutral in terms of time.. Autohotkey is pulling from a CSV and tabbing through the page.. every time I use the hotkey it fills in the form. I couldn't fully automate as I'm not used to the program but I'm sure it was possible.

Hi All, Apologies for the canvasing, but I would appreciate your support on a change request I have submitted to Capita. (1502-1359312). I am currently setting up scheduled reports at a number of our schools (we are an Academy Trust), these scheduled reports export a CSV for various data every night and saves it to a network share. However, the scheduled report doesn't actually export the CSV until someone acknowledges that the report has been run by clicking on the notification that appears on the SIMS home page, at this point it finally saves the CSV. To me this isn't really scheduling anything, it just creates a link to a report on your homepage at a certain time. I would appreciate it if you could support the CR by selecting Agree/Strongly Agree via SupportNet Thanks Danny

Hi I'm in need of a bit of help, we are trying to move around 1000 computers from under the ou of one place example:Site into multiple ou's within ad. For example everything is currently under "site" but we would like to break it down into room numbers for troubleshooting. Example: Site >Admin >Staffroom1 >Students >Classroom1 Does anyone know if it is possible to do this with a csv and PS ? for example: a csv or text file with and then use powershell to move the 1000 computers ?

Name OU

computer1 room101

computer2 room102

Many thanks for any help. Phil

IMPORTANT - The script has been updated, please jump to post 50 for the latest working version. The old attachment has been removed to prevent confusion. Dear all, Please find attached to this thread a script allowing you to import your SIMS Room Timetable into MRBS, by exporting to CSV first. To Set Up: Place the PHP Script in the same folder as MRBS' config.inc.php Amend the PHP Script (see below) Amendments to make for your school: Room Names to ID Numbers (Script Lines 44-61, using mrbs_room table in database for reference) Default Entry Type for Booking, and an alternate entry type, along with which subjects to use this entry type for (Script Lines 17-19, using MRBS config.inc.php for reference) Your Periods/Break/Lunch system, as MRBS treats each period as a 'booking slot' and break/lunch as a 'booking slot', so Period 10 = 0 (first 'slot') + 1 (registration) + 9 (periods past) + 1 (break) + 1 (lunch) = Slot 12, see script lines 203-217 with longer explanation. Instructions for use: Export SIMS timetable for ONE ROOM using attached Report Definition Load PHP Script in Web Browser Fill out form, including File to Upload [start/End Term Dates auto-suggested] Press Go. CSV File Notes (auto-setup in Report Definition though): ONE ROOM ONLY Order of Columns: Room, Day, Period, Class, Teacher, Subject Code, NoStudents Period should be defined as 'Mon:7' or 'Mon:07' Hope this helps!
