  1. Hi, No teaching required. HR used a standard template and I have asked them to remove that part. Sorry for the confusion.
  2. Caister Academy who are a member of Creative Education Trust are seeking to appoint a full time permanent Senior IT Technician. The salary is £22,183 to £24,492 and the closing date is 14/02/22. For full details, please visit https://www.caisteracademy.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Advert-Senior-IT-Technician.pdf
  3. Oh, I see. Definitely worth running perfmon over a period of time. Monitor the hard drive and nic performance. Have you looked at the hardware logs, event logs, etc on OpenManage? Worst case scenario, could you run the roles standalone across all your servers? That Dell sounds quiet a beast and would probably handle a lot just by itself. I'm not a lover of SAN's myself. Too complicated!
  4. I would try running perfmon to see if you can identify any latency on the drives or nic's. Remember to run the tests from one of the nodes not the roles for accurate reporting. I had a similar problem in the past which turned out to be network driver related. Inconsistencies in driver versions caused terrible slowness. Updated the nic drivers on all the nodes that connected to the switch fabric and it resolved the issue. Are the nodes up to date? Also, have you got any SAN management software you can use to check the general health of the SAN?
  5. Hi, On your Aruba switch, you haven't told your uplink port (i.e. port 52) to carry traffic from your default VLAN. In your case, VLAN 10. You've only told it to carry traffic tagged for VLAN 200. I think you need to add the correct command to allow traffic untagged from VLAN10. Trunk ports can only have 1 X port untagged just so you know. Hope this helps.
  6. I feel your pain my friend. I inherited an incredibly complex school network and on my second day, I came in to find nothing working, just solid green lights on the SAN. I could have cried! On your 2019 VM, have you got secure boot turned on? If so, is it possible to try turning this off? You could use this incompatibility as a business case to upgrade one of your hosts. Do you have an old sever kicking around you could install a newer version of server os on and then tests the server 2019 vm?
  7. We used Net-Ctrl many years ago and the survey was excellent. Needed quiet a few less AP's than expected.
  8. Hi, Server 2019 isn't supported as a guest operating system on Server 2012R2. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/it-pro/windows-server-2012-r2-and-2012/dn792027(v=ws.11) Doesn't mean it wont work but it's going to make troubleshooting difficult. What do you see in the event logs? Do you have another host running Server 2016 or above that you could test the vm on?
  9. Hi, We have a load of Konica's on a managed service. Mostly KM Bizhub 3100P for IT Labs then Bizhub C3851/C3351's for staff work rooms where they need to scan, etc Work really well indeed. Any issues are very quickly resolved. Hope this helps.
  10. Hello all, We are very late to the party with OneDrive but want to allow students and staff to start using this soon. When I inherited this role, I noticed the native OneDrive wasn't enabled. I found a GP called disable one drive with various settings configured including 'prevent the usage of OneDrive for file storage' which was set to enabled. I removed this policy so it was not applied anywhere, waited ages, still no OneDrive. I then deleted the policy, no difference. I then made a new one called 'enable one drive' and reversed the settings and applied it to a test OU. If I run a Group policy modelling wizard for test staff on a test pc, I can see it should be applied: Annoyingly, as it's a computer setting, gpresult doesn't show the computer policies being applied but based on the modeling, I'm pretty sure it is being applied but for some reason, OneDrive is not pinned. Also, If I click on the flag and type 'OneDrive, I get the following: If I log in as domain admin on the test pc, it's pinned and if I click on the flag and type OneDrive it brings up the usual 'sign in to OneDrive' box which is what I want for staff and students. I have searched the modelling results for 'OneDrive' but can't see anything else other than the settings above. I can't see any reg settings to block the icon either. I have tried enforcing the gp and even blocking inheritance so it just be applying that policy but it still doesn't work for a test staff or student account. Any help or guidance would be much appreciated.
  11. I'm interested in how you are doing this. Are staff using their personal mobile or have you deployed a browser app like authenticator.cc ? Many Thanks
  12. Thanks for confirming. I haven't done much research yet to be totally honest but was thinking having MFA enabled in school for teachers would have been a real nightmare. At the moment, teachers are logging on to different computers all day. How are most schools doin this on prem?
  13. Does anyone know for sure if you need a P1 license to be able to exclude the school IP range from MFA?
  14. Hello, We've not used the temporary ban feature of Smoothwall in ages because of Covid. I have been asked to ban 3 students. I have added them in to the temporary ban but it's not working. I have also tried with a couple of test accounts that I have access to and those don't work either. Have waited overnight, tried multiple computers, etc Perhaps I'm missing something really obvious bit I've simply followed these instructions: https://help.smoothwall.net/FilterFirewall/Content/4Services/1Authentication/4Temporary%20Bans/BanUser.htm#:~:text=On%20the%20SERVICES%20menu%2C%20under,ban%20expires%20and%20click%20Apply. Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated.
  15. Hi, Not sure if this has already been mentioned but I would recommend using perform to monitor the disks and see if you are suffering any latency. Collect over a period of time. I once had a SAN that was running like treacle and using perfmon showed massive latency. For my scenario, updating the NIC drivers to the SAN switch resolved the issue. Could be worth checking your NIC drivers. Also, you could run perfmon on the NIC's as well. Here is a quick guide on how to use it if you've not come across it before. https://www.smartertools.com/blog/2016/07/15-configure-perfmon-to-prevent-disk-issues Also, I would suggest uninstalling any AV...just to eliminate. Sophos has caused me all sorts of issues in the past. Hope you get it fixed.
