Hi, I need to rip our school video from DVD to Flash for use on our website. In the past, I've used a program called Flash DVD Ripper (http://www.dvd-ripper.com) to convert the DVD to MPEG, and then Adobe Flash CS3 Video Encoder to convert the MPEG to FLV and then Adobe Flash CS3 Professional to stick play, volume controls etc on it. I've always ended up with really low quality results which always come from the Flash DVD Ripper program. Google is absolutely no help in suggesting better alternatives because it just lists similar shareware programs that are probably just as bad, so what do people use? In short, what's the best way to make a high quality rip from DVD to FLV? Cheers.

I use AllVideosReloaded, and I know that it conflicts with the slideshow. The worst I get is an 'error on page' message on IE8, but it might be worth disabling some of your JavaScript based modules and using trial and error to see if something else is messing it up?

I get that error for my site too. For me, it's from the html I use to centre the highslide slideshow on each of my news items, but I'm not sure of a way around it (or at least haven't investigated it properly yet). I've never seen the Clean-up Messy Code icon, although I use JCE rather than the default TinyMCE. It might be worth a try, as long as you back up what you have there currently beforehand (easiest method is just to copy and paste it into Notepad, and then copy and paste it back into the editor when everything goes wrong).

It depends. What errors does it give you? HTML Tidy wouldn't be much use for a Joomla site as there'll be a lot of server side processing. I'd only ever use it to tidy up a static html page, and even then there's always the chance that it'll send your website all over the place.

What's in the alt tags is largely irrelevant. Alt tags are only used to replace the image in the event of it not being loaded or not found, and as mouse over text For SEO and accessibility purposes, it should be a short description of what that image is. However, you could put any old nonsense between the inverted commas and it wouldn't make a difference as to whether it works or not. It might be worth removing the alt="blahblah" bits entirely while you're trying to get your head around it.

Have you made sure that TinyMCE is disabled (as well as JCE enabled, obviously) in Extensions > Plugin Manager?
