Hi there, We are running a fleet of MBA's on 10.9.4 connected to Active Directory and mounting DFS Shares from a Windows 2012 R2 server. We use ControlPlane to, based on a network context, run a script to mount the network drives (will include the script below). The issue is that when the Macs sleep or the screen is shut, after they are awakened, the drives are remounting and creating a few extra duplicates, eventually flooding the desktop throughout the day. We assumed it was the script so we edited it as seen below, but the issue is persisting.. We have only seen this happen since the use of DFS shares was introduced instead of normal Windows shares. We have not verified this, but the issue does not seem to happen on Yosemite (NOT VERIFIED). Any ideas? Thanks guys and gals. We have two cover supervisors who need to both receive the cover work (and stuff) for the day by email. In Zimbra, I was able to give them both an alias of cover@... and they both received the mail. Problem - Exchange is less than happy with this setup and it doesn't allow it. The solution is obviously to have a shared mailbox which they both have access to. The question is which type do I use? None of the three options (User Mailbox, Room Mailbox and Equipment Mailbox) really describe what I'm trying to do and I'm not 100% sure on the difference between them. Suggestions people

Hi all, can anyone help me with a really frustrating problem we have atm. We're running Win 2K3 and 2K8 svr, XP Pro clients on a mix of Managed & unmanged Pro Curve switches to a HP gl core with STP enabled and are getting a load of PCs hanging when accessing shared network drives on our main shared area svr (running 2K8) from our ICT dept. via either a fibre connected HP2524 or fibre connected Netgear Gigabit sw. This is a new server and was a replacement for a really old poor spec. device that we have had the same issues with. Network mapping when logged on to the shared drives appears ok but when a number of PCs access the Public area e.g. 1 class of 28 accessing a limited number of shared files this basically lags and some don't later recover the PCs in the room. Result - 10 - 15mins of lag and the switches show what looks like from the activity lights a stack of broadcasts. Odd though - other rooms can be working on their home drives (networked to a different svr) and be fine. Other related issues have been lengthy log on times - upto 20 mins! and application crashes - normally when accessing shared areas. We've looked at managed switch logs - nothing of note but packet captures show have shown a big proportion of ARP requests. Any ideas anyone? we've looked at most things we can think of and well ...

Hi, I am posting this here because I am totally stumped..... I have Intune full version configured to allow Desktop and Documents to sync to one drive and therefore move round with students on shared laptops. I think everything config wise is set but......... the one drive app will not start the first time a student logs onto a "fresh" computer. Fundamentally this is a no brainer for me as this makes for seamless integration of the laptop access for students. Their one drive saved files should follow them round if they hop from one shared computer to another. If someone has this working is there any chance of an explanation how it was done? Any intune config policies used would also be helpful? Does anyone have any idea why this doesn't work and why Micro$oft seem to be supporting this current broken functionality? Many Thanks for any help, Best,

I've got a shared mailbox that 7 people have read write access to (as they need to tidy, create folders etc.) I have a single folder that keeps getting moved (and I can't figure out why) how do I stop accidental folder movements? (in general or just that folder)

Hi all, We are currently seeing a couple of different issues when trying to access documents. The documents are being opened in to Microsoft Office 2011 v14.4.6/7 from a Windows SMB fileshare on a Mac running OS X 10.9.4. These same documents will behave normally on a Windows laptop. The two different situations are listed below: 1) When trying to access either .doc, .docx or other program file types, they will receive the following error: Word cannot open this document. The document might be in use, the document might not be a valid word document, or the file name might contain invalid characters. I have verified that no one else is accessing the files and that the files in question have standard naming, not containing incorrect characters. 2) Same as above, but this error: 'filename' cannot be accessed. The file may be read-only, or you may be trying to access a read-only location. Or, the server the document is stored on may not be responding.' 3) A staff member will be unable to open or save a file due to lacking permissions, even though the document was created by them, and even last edited. We have just begun a new term and this is gearing up to be a major issue. Any help or insight would be of great help. More than happy to provide more information that might be relevant or follow troubleshooting instructions. Thank you in advance.

We have a CC3 network in our school and are experiencing some problems with a shared printer in a room of 15 computers. The printer is an Epson Stylus 1400 and is attached to a station via a USB cable. The printer has been shared and then allocated to the other stations in the room using the RM Management Console. The problem we have is that it seems to be a complete lottery as to whether or not users pick up the printer. For instance, a user logs and does not get the printer, I log onto the same machine as a test user and get the printer, I log on as another test user and do not get the printer! We have other rooms in the school where we have shared printers exactly the same way and have had no problems. The same issue was occurring last November but we eventually got it working by finding a different driver. Since then the printer has developed a fault and was returned a few weeks back. We are now experiencing the same problem with the replacement printer (exactly the same model/make) even though we have continued using the same driver. (I have also tried the other driver) We have tried sharing the printer on a different station all together and using a different network port in the room. We have added another shared printer (different make/model) to the station to test if users can see one but not the other. We have then allocated this printer and a printer from a neighbouring room to the stations. I find that some users get all three printers, some get none, some get the neighbouring printer, some just get the test printer……..a real mixture! It doesn’t seem to be user specific either. For instance, a user might log onto one pc and not get any printers but log onto another and get printers. Then again, it doesn’t seem to be station specific, as a user can log out, someone else log in and get the printers. One thing to note is that I don’t recall ever logging on as an administrator and not getting the printer. I thought I could set up the printer manually on every station in the room, to get around RM Management Console allocating the printing every time a user logs on. The problem is, it seems only the person who installed the printer gets the printer when logged on i.e. Installed as systemadmin, log in as systemadmin2 and no printers installed! I have asked RM if it is possible to set up the printer for each station so that whoever logs on gets the printer. They have said I need to set up the users as “privileged” users which basically means they can do whatever they like on the computer when logged in. This is not an option! I was hoping someone out there might have some ideas about how I could do this or have any suggestions as to what I could try next?

Good evening everyone. I have a request from a head teacher who wants a shared calendar, that is shared with other head teachers at different schools, possibly with different email systems. They want everyone to have read and write access. Any ideas if this is possible and how I could go about doing it. The school I'm based at currently uses Office 365. Thanks in advance

Hi all, It's been a while, I know. I've gone from working in a middle school to working for a university. So, as far as I'm concerned, I am still an edugeek. We are having a problem over here with a shared workbook. When we try to open it, three out of the 5 sheets show only grey - no cells, no data, just the column letters and grey. I know the data is still being read because the other two, readable, sheets are interacting fine with the data that's on the other, 'blank', sheets. We have tried everything to solve this, but haven't been able find a solution. The problem only came about when I set the workbook to be shared. No-one has had any time to mess with it, so I know it isn't human error (except, possibly, my own). Has anyone come across this before. Has anyone found a solution. Thannks. It's good to be back.

We are a large Sec. Modern using Profiles for our end of year reporting to parents. All our science groups are shared between two teachers. I have set up the session sucessfully but the classes for science data entry are appearing in both teacher's view. If they both write a report will both show when generated? I have told them only one of them needs to write a report for each group but I dont trust them not to fill it in anyway. Anyone know what will happen? Charlotte

Hello all, We have recently just deployed a file server as we've gone down the ESXi route. What we've found is that folder permissions and shares seem to be changing randomly. For example, we have our students home directories on there and they seem to become unshared after some time. We have the problem where our W7 workstations seem to rename the folder to MyDocuments (but not really a big issue if we view by filename). I was wondering if there might be a connection. Also we have a shared drives accessible by staff and students, permissions on that seem to be changing, allowing students write access, even though the folder itself says they should not. Thanks for any hints and advice.

Hi all, We currently have a network start menu (win2k8r2/Win7) for all users residing on a file server in one of our main shares (accessed by a shortcut, not folder redirection, which I'm happy with). For various reasons I need to move the start menu share to another location, and thought about having it replicate. So my question is, is it worth putting it in my netlogon folder? Or setup DFS? If DFS, can anyone give some guidance as I’ve not set it up before. Thanks, Your thoughts are appreciated.

Hi All, I am currently setting up a few MACs to deploy into the network. My last hurdle in what seems like quite the saga is setting the default sidebar preferences for all users in finder. The main reason for wanting to do this is to stop the students browsing around all the other machines on the network. I have searched high and low but cannot fiond a way to do this! HELP!! Thanks in advance.
