Hi Apologies if this is in the wrong place. Recently we've found that students have been accessing a Minecraft port called Eaglercraft (https://eaglercaft.com), we've blocked all links to it online but have found out that all the students need is a HTML file downloaded from the site to be able run the entire thing in a browser offline. Does anyone have any idea how we could go about blocking this file? My go-to was Applocker but as this file isn't technically an executable file Applocker doesn't detect it and so we can't block its hash. Thanks in advance

Hi, Our lovely IT students love playing minecraft, but we cant figure out a way to block the Java program without effect the rest of windows. Normally we would block the exe of a game via sophos application control, but doesn't seem to work on this. Any ideas?

Hi, I work in a school and just last year we purchased MinecraftEDU for the students. Before the previous technician worked here he set up MinecraftEDU on private Minecraft user accounts. Unfortunately we have moved it from our admin server which contains all the students and staff data to a dedicated server I have set up myself as we didn't want to be giving out the IP address of our main server. I allocated the computers a static IP and once everything was installed I tested the server on several machines. This is where everything started to get frustrating, when I typed in the server IP I just get 'Can't connect to server' with a red X. This was all confusing as I have pinged the IP address which was successful so there I knew it was not an internet issue. We have a RM Network and Smoothwall filtering system, I'm not sure if the Smoothwall is blocking anything from running which is then preventing students connecting to the server. We are running MinecraftEDU 1.7.10 (I don't have the best knowledge on minecraft) If anyone has any ideas into why I am unable to connect to my server please please please help me as I want to get this back up and running for my students. Thanks

I am being asked to install Minecraft on to some of our PC's, which are on the schools network. I'm not really comfortable doing this as I have no experience of Minecraft at all. What are the implications of doing this, any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you

Hello, I've been asked by opur SENCO to allow 3 SEN students to play Minecraft. She has no idea what it is and until yesterday, I didn't either. I've made changes to the firewall (smoothwall). I've allowed them mcupdate.tumblr.com and minecraft.net, and port 25565. The minecraft launcher still says "Can't connect to minecraft.net" when I try to login. Is there anything else I should do? Thanks.

Hi all, Have an issue on several machines where the log-in pop-up window is blank. This is running on a school network and it does work fine on the Macs and one PC. Looking into installing Minecraft and struggling on the licensing side of things, We want the license to be attached to a specific station/devices in one classroom and not attached to the user account. only way I can think is to create generic user accounts and license to them however we would prefer for the students to be able to use their own accounts, any ideas? there are limited licenses and so far it seems licenses have to be assigned per user rather than station

Announcing the brand new member of the EduGeek Minecraft server family! Server address: mc.edugeek.net:25566 FTB Infinity Evolved can be downloaded via the Curse launcher, or the legacy FTB Launcher. In order to encourage some building and some fun, this server is going to be a little different - as there is a competition. Prizes First prize - A Raspberry Pi 3 Model B Second prize - A BBC micro:bit Runner up - A Minecraft plushy I reserve the right to substitute the prize for something of equivalent value, should the original prize not be available! The competition Now, the goal - to build the most impressive floating island base, complete with transport solution (flying is not permitted for island to island travel, think of your guests!) The spawn islands should give you some idea of what I mean by floating island base, but by no-means should they be seen as prescriptive of what things should look like! The competition is designed so that all play styles can be accommodated. So, those of you who are more vanilla style players, you aren't going to be disadvantaged if you don't use lots of modded stuff. Rules No copying things direct from other players, servers or schematics online. Everything must be built in a survival manner - no cheating! Judging will be completed by me, @localzuk, and my decision is final. The competition will run from today, 2nd June 2016, until 30th September 2016, with judging happening on the 1st October. The server files will be downloaded at midnight on 30th September 2016, and judging will occur offline (so as to prevent any more changes happening). Normal server rules apply. The server is PG, just like EduGeek. Any misbehaviour will lead to being banned from the server. Griefing will lead to an instant ban. Being banned from the server will disqualify you from entry into the competition. Teaming up is not permitted for the competition entries, though non-competition building can be performed in teams. The competition is being ran by me, @localzuk, and not directly by EduGeek - it is a bit of fun for all of us, and not overly serious! No purchase is necessary to enter - simply whitelist yourself by putting your Minecraft username into your profile here on Edugeek, wait up to an hour for your account to be whitelisted, then just log in.

I have challenged a student to give me some really good reasons for allowing use of Minecraft within school. I have also said that I would find some reasons why not to allow minecraft in school (I feel I should point out I love minecraft!!). The Student went online and instantly sent me 8 or so links from websites recommending uses for school. so I thought "I'm a geek!!" so am posting here for some really constructive reasons why not to allow minecraft in school and perhaps anybody's experiences of using minecraft in school if you have been brave enough. Thanks to you all for reading and responding. EDUGEEK ROCKS!!!

I was asked by a principle at a school to host a minecraft server for the students to play together, the only problem is we do not want the students to be able to connect to external servers but minecraft requires Internet access to login and play on the server I set up. Is there a way to block minecraft accessing the external servers but not minecraft login services? Thanks
