After giving the beta version a quick test it definitely feels faster than Chrome. Has anyone else tried it and been similarly impressed with its speed? Website / Blog / Download (Beta version)

Have been trying out QIMO a kid-friendly Ubuntu variant in some of my schools. Managed to get Flash content working, but videos on the BBC site just won't play (YouTube is fine). Tried to install Chrome instead, but got a proxy error (though the Firefox proxy settings were correct). Tried the Flash-Aid add-in for FF, which didn't seem to help either. Anyone else had this problem and solved it?

Hello, Is it possible with Firefox/gpo to allow bookmarks to be saved in the users home drive? We have IE favourites set with folder redirection and chrome has gpo profile path applied. Is there a similar setting for firefox or is the only way to use roaming profiles for app data?

I am having problems with the proxy connections on a school network. The client machines have had their system proxy settings disabled and are using the internal proxy settings on the browser. This seems to be working fine on the client machines but when trying to use this method on my admin computer it doesn't work. I have tried using the system proxies but no luck. In terms of other connection it is all working, access to shared drives is working and the network is good for all other machines. I have looked into the about:config settings in Firefox but as I am not too sure about these settings I didn't want to mess it up. any ideas that would help with problem would be great. Thanks

Hi for the last few days, we have not been able to connect to the dropbox.com website. I have tried Chrome, IE and Firefox and none of them will connect. They all give slightly different errors: IE says: Turn on TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2 in Advanced settings and try connecting to https://www.dropbox.com again. If this error persists, contact your site administrator. I have tried this and it makes no difference. Chrome says: This webpage is not available ERR_CONNECTION_CLOSED and Firefox says: Secure Connection Failed The connection to http://www.dropbox.com was interrupted while the page was loading. The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified. Please contact the web site owners to inform them of this problem. Has anyone else had similar problems over the last few days. I get the same errors on other https sites. Any help/pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Paul

Whenever I try to access OP Smartdesk using Internet Explorer there are all sorts of problems with it. For example, when you click on a job to view the details a message box will appear saying : Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site http://ourschoolhelpdeskID. Operation aborted. In some cases where we can open a job, we are unable to edit anything about it because we do not see the large reply text box. We can only see the title of the job. Therefore we are unable to close or update jobs. In the bottom left hand corner of the screen is the little yellow warning sign with the exclamation mark. When I click on it to view the details I get a message saying “HTML Parsing Error: Unable to modify the parent container element before the child element is closed”. I have googled this error message but all I get is help pages relating to sites that people are developing themselves. Our site is hosted by OP Software and I have already been in touch with them and they have told me there is nothing wrong their end. I knew that already because the helpdesk works fine on Firefox. Interestingly though, this problem only started happening a few weeks ago. No updates were done on the machines to make this happen. What is also odd is that we have two completely separate networks in the school, each with their own Internet settings, and it happens on both. Can anyone offer any advice on what I might need to do within ie to get this working? Downloading Firefox on all the machines in school is not an option! Many thanks.

I’m kinda stuck with something and it’s really bugging the hell out of me and I was wondering if anyone else has seen the same thing? Basically Firefox is still requesting a username and password to the local intranet site even though the following parameters have been set in "about:config": pref("network.automatic-ntlm-auth.trusted-uris", "domain.net"); pref("network.negotiate-auth.delegation-uris", "domain.net"); pref("network.negotiate-auth.trusted-uris", "domain.net"); The pop-up box states the following: Authentication Required A user name and password are being requested by http://www.domain.net. The site says: "Digest" However, when the box is cancelled it then goes on to automatically load the user's credentials correctly using NTLM. It's quite annoying and I want to stop it but I can't seem to find a way how to. It looks like it's trying to authenticate using Digest before accepting the NTLM credentials. Would that be a fair assumption? If so, how do I prevent it? I can't find a setting in Firefox which will change the order of preference or indeed makes any reference to Digest. Is there a setting which needs to be changed in IIS? Any ideas?

Hi all, I'm currently investigating if it is possible to have students profiles roam with them in our school network. Currently we do not use roaming profiles, (too much network traffic), and we have no interest in projects like Weave (too much internet traffic, and not the direction of the school). What we need is a way to have users bookmarks, tabs, etc, follow them around the school, and possibly a way to insert an unchangeable section into everyone's bookmarks containing read only bookmarks. I know this last one may not be possible 'yet'. Anyway, what I think may solve the problem for me at this stage is to create a GPO that redirects '%APPDATA%\Mozilla' to each users home directory. IS THIS POSSIBLE??? That's my main question at this stage, as that's the path I can see will solve the problem. Any other ideas anyone?

Is anyone using the Firefox addon: Public Fox? It's a very simple way to lockdown various settings. However, I'm having problems deploying it for multiple users. Firstly, I don't want it deployed across the entire network - just to a select number of staff. When you download and install it on a single PC it works fine but if you use a command line to install it for all users of the PC it errors out with: 'Not compatable with FF version 3.5.3' As an admin it's then possible to update the addon from within FF such that it is compatable. Unfortunately, other users cannot do this update due to our account restrictions. Any ideas?

Hello, I'm new System Admin. for Mid-sized company and I've been tasked to redirect all Firefox and Chrome profiles to the users' home directories. We are talking over 100+ users and their existing bookmarks, etc. The task seems straight forward for Chrome (although I haven't tried yet) but I'm having some issues with completing this task with Firefox. I'm trying to gather the information and see if I can be the test dummy to see if it works. Currently all users have standard Firefox installed on their PC and so updates must be done manually on each PC. I want to roll-out Frontmotions but want to test it first, but no testing environment at this time. Does anyone know if Frontmotion will redirect users' profile to their home directories? Will it do so with the existing profiles or will it create a new one? Moreso, how can I redirect FF profiles to the home directories especially those that are already existing? I know Firefox already stores the profiles at %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox but how can I relocate it either through GPO, script, or batch files? *Please note: I have no experiencing writing scripts or batch files but if guided I'm sure I can do it. Thanks for all your help.

Hi All, To start off, all the computers in the school have Internet Explorer 6 and Firefox 3.6 with the latest flash installed (10.0.45.2). The reason we have stayed with IE6 is that the WA Department of Education use an Oracle webmail program to centrally manage all staff and student emails instead of each school having its own exchange server. The Idea is good in theory allowing people to move schools without changing their email address and so on. But it does have a few issues, one of the major ones being that it only works properly with IE6 and as such we are not allowed to upgrade to IE7 or 8. Any way after a recent updated on the mathletics website (mathletics.com.au) now when students click to sign in they get an error saying: “Mathletics has detected that you are using Internet Explorer 6 as your web browser. Microsoft no longer supports Internet Explorer 6. To continue using Mathletics, please upgrade your web browser. Please click on OK to upgrade your browser.” “Ok” takes them to the MS download page for IE8 and “Cancel” just dose nothing. They get this error even when using Firefox 3.6. I tried calling their helpdesk and they were not available, I have sent an email as well but I thought I would post this here and see if any one has a salution. Is there any simple way of “fooling” mathletics to think we have IE8 and allow students to log in? A nasty registry hack or something? Or am I going to have to upgrade the maths lab to IE8 and just say no email in that lab?

I'm not holding out much hope on this one as I haven't been able to find an answer anywhere else on the net, but perhaps one of you brilliant lot has found a solution. As I'm sure some of you are aware, trying to access certain secure sites in Firefox through proxy is impossible. You get an error telling you the certificate is invalid, but when you try to add an exception it either then tells you the certificate is valid, or makes no difference and you still get the error (without ever being able to access the site). Has anybody found a way around this?

Hi everyone! I am currently trying to resolve an issue we are having watching youtube videos. On some pc's we have no issues at all, and on others we get 1 second of video before it errors and fails to play. I am currently working on 2 machines, one with the issue and one without. These are the same model machine, with identical images. The issue occurs regardless of who logs in, their access rights etc. I have also tried using my phone's network to see if the error could be caused by our smoothwall server, but apparently not! The issue is effecting both IE and Firefox. We are running the same version of IE and FF with the same version of Flash on both machines. Anyone got any advice for us?! Thanks!
