Morning all, We have been teaching computer science for a few years now and I originally put in place some virtual machines to use Visual Studio programming which involves EXE's. Sadly the Virtual machines are being abused and people are deleting each others work so I am looking for a new solution. How does everyone else deal with Programming classes that need to save executable's? Currently EXE's are banned on our network drives with FSRM for obvious reasons. I was thinking of scripting some kind of special area to save, just not sure how to do it.

Good morning, Does anybody have any advice or guidance around a lockdown procedure that they are willing to share, please? At the moment our primary method of communication in such a scenario would be the NetGenium tannoy system but this has proved unreliable and their support tell me that to make changes we need to run it using IE10 which I can't quite work out how to do without a Win 7 VM. Thanks in advance

Hi all. I have been asked how to get a Lock message to each classroom without sounding an alarm. The staff do not log into Teams all the time (that would be the easy answer) and the classrooms do not have phones in each room. Thanks all. Andy

Morning all, For those that haven't seen the other thread - we're running a BETT competition that could see you win an incredible looking LEGO Batmobile. One of our key focus for BETT 2020 is lockdown solutions to serve different demands and environments. At BETT 2020 we will be showcasing a selection of wireless, IP and wired lockdown solutions that ensure your staff and students are alerted of any potential threat situation, and to comply with some of the latest safety standards. We will have solutions from four manufacturers, each with their own approach and methodology to achieving a lockdown solution. These manufacturers include NEXUS, Bodet, Netgenium and FireClass. We have also noticed a requirement for better access control in schools and colleges. The challenge with a lot of access control technologies is a lack of integration. The end result is schools and colleges managing a number of different solutions individually. At Net-Ctrl our focus is on integration. We have been working with some select manufacturers in order to achieve this. We want to make it as easy as possible for you to protect those on your site(s) and manage and secure access. We will be demonstrating the integration between access control, intruder alarms, fire detection, wireless door handles, IP speaker solutions, and also IP-CCTV. We also have Ruckus on our stand. Ruckus is leading the way in wired and wireless technology to keep your users connected even in the most challenging environments. Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi and wired technology redefine what’s possible in network performance with flexibility, reliability and affordability. We will be focussing on their co-management options to simplify your deployments by having wired and wireless configuration changes in one place. We invite you all to come and see us at BETT 2020 we will have a number of demonstrations running and product experts on hand. We’re really excited for BETT 2020. Make sure you pay us a visit and stop by the Net-Ctrl stand – NN73. If you have any questions or would like to arrange a meet during BETT – please email [email protected], or comments on this thread. Hi, Our school is looking to replace the existing lockdown system with a new one. The requirements (from the IT side of things) is the ability to send a message out to all Windows PCs, Macs and iPads. I looked at NetSupport Notify, but it unfortunately doesn't receive iOS notifications - it can only send them out. All of our pupils have a school-provided iPad which is in use or at least on them almost all the time, so it's vital that this feature is included. We'd like the system/supplier to be UK based for technical support and/or maintenance/repairs/replacement reasons etc. I'm struggling to find such a system here in the UK - the US has tons, so I wonder if anyone could recommend a system that they know of or have used/implemented?

Hello, We have had an increasing need for an operating system that allows unsupervised usage with our early years children here at Primary school. The problem we have is they have a tendency to 'close' the apps they are given to use. Is there a way of setting an app running and keeping it there so they can't close it? The teacher loads the application and that's it. It's on until the teacher turns it off again? Could anyone help with this please? I feel like Windows 8.1 may be the solution but I'm unsure how to implement it. Many Thanks!

Is anyone using the Firefox addon: Public Fox? It's a very simple way to lockdown various settings. However, I'm having problems deploying it for multiple users. Firstly, I don't want it deployed across the entire network - just to a select number of staff. When you download and install it on a single PC it works fine but if you use a command line to install it for all users of the PC it errors out with: 'Not compatable with FF version 3.5.3' As an admin it's then possible to update the addon from within FF such that it is compatable. Unfortunately, other users cannot do this update due to our account restrictions. Any ideas?

Send Security Alerts on Bromcom. Has anyone managed to do this yet? I can send an alert, but I cannot see where I can configure the MIS to say who should receive them! Any other solutions to the problem of quickly passing word around that school is in "Lockdown"? Thanks! Nige

Hi All, I am currently looking at locking down 2 Windows 10 laptops that need to be used for exams. I need to know how I can get rid of the A-Z apps in the start menu so it is completely blank! I also want to be able to disable any sort of spell checker and hide the C:/ drive from there user account. The only thing they can really use is Microsoft word/powerpoint and have access to a folder in which they can save there work to. Does anyone recommend any software that would do this for me? Or steps for me to be able to do this myself? Thanks, Taylor

Hi All, I'd like to know what is the best way to securely lock down binaries in Windows Server 2008 R2 ? So that only certain application that is white listed can run, the other should not run (white listing) Should I configure it using Applocker through Local GPO ? or using SRP ? Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, AWT

Hello I want to lockdown Windows client for school or library standalone PC no Domain. From Windows XP to Windows 8.1 mandatory profile are perfect for my request. Every reboot the profile is new. From windows 10 this is not possible. If you setup a mandatory profile, they will broke immediately for windows update (features update) or for modern app and cortana. I've seen 3rd party software but the will doesn't support the windows update. If the update start after reboot they re deploy original image. Do you have a suggestion to make kiosk or lockdown computer with windows 10? My best regards PAolo

As we mentioned in our original BETT post we're brining solutions to BETT than ever before that help schools and colleges protect their staff and students in lockdown scenarios. At BETT 2019 we will be launching one of our latest partnerships, the Nexus wireless alert system. The new NEXUS Wireless Alert system is aimed at schools and colleges as a lockdown system in the event of an incident requiring rapid restrictions to a site. It is quick and easy to install with no civil works or cabling required and is fully portable. The solution at a glance: • Battery powered • Rapidly deployable and reusable • Wireless with up to 64 units on one site • Long range transmission of 1km between units • Visual beacon and audible sounder/enunciator • Works on advanced wireless mesh protocol negating the need for repeaters • IP Masthead receiver available for remote monitoring • 3 year battery life with low battery alerts NEXUS uses a secure wireless mesh protocol to provide a long-range, robust system, designed to alert occupants to a threat on or near their site requiring a lockdown procedure to be implemented. There is a maximum of 64 units per site, and when one NEXUS unit is activated, it will trigger all units in range to sound an audible lockdown message, accompanied by a flashing beacon light. In all instances of activation, both the sounders and flashing beacons will continue until reset, however, the initial triggered unit will continue to flash until the call point button is manually reset. Intelligent power saving technology ensures a long battery life of up to three years, keeping service calls to a minimum and reducing the environmental impact. NEXUS is available in both internal and external options - external units are fully weatherproof to IP66 standard. We will have a number of working units on the stand, and will be running product demos through the duration.

Morning everyone! I am looking towards moving towards a Windows 7 environment over the summer holidays. We all know how time flies, so I'm trying to get as much done now so I can hit the ground running over summer. As such, I have started to design and create student restriction policies using all the new Windows 7 specific GPOs. I'm happy with my progress up to this point, but there are 2 very specific things I cannot seem to restrict that are causing me a headache: I need to remove these as I don't really want students having an easy way to start poking about with network shares. Also, they seem freely able to browse Active Directory. I have checked pretty much everything in the GPOs but to no result. Is there something I'm missing?
