Hey folks. We're looking at upgrading our wireless solution as we currently have a D-Link system in which has been pretty crappy at times. We have 30AP's at the moment and we're in the middle of looking at different providers for a new system. I just wanted to get some feedback of other local schools as to what has worked and not worked in the last year with Wireless replacements. Link2ICT are offering us a solution which could be managed by them for a small fee. Ruckus looks pretty good so far and certainly at the moment seems like the most appealing choice for me at the moment. And we've also looked at Airtight which is primarily cloud based. We have an AP off them at the moment but have had no luck in getting it connected through Links firewall, even after port changes. Can anybody else recommend any of the above or am I missing a really good solution I haven't checked out yet. (Just seems like everyone of these companies thinks their product is the best, makes it hard to figure out what is BS and what is fact sometimes.)

In addition to the IP-CCTV event i'm organising with MOBOTIX, i'm also running one looking at wireless with Ruckus. Join Ruckus Wireless and Net-Ctrl at the Ruckus UK HQ (High Wycombe, HP10 0HH) as we delve into the Smart WiFi world and look at the Ruckus approach to dealing with common WiFi complaints. We will be joined by Scott Reeves, Ruckus Technical Director in EMEA and Stuart White our very own Senior Wireless Engineer who will both be taking the day's sessions and answering your questions. Join us on the 12th March from 10.00 and learn how to cause a Ruckus the right way. If you would like to attend, please send me a PM and I will reserve you a spot. Hi Was wondering if someone could give us a quote for 10 x access points of the above brand or similar decent brands. We have ruckus at most of our sites, only down side is that the firmware for the zone director is quiet old and on 9.8.2 and the access points will need to support this firmware are the R700 still descent to get or outdated now. With the other brands i know that some wireless points elected a master and configure the others which is also an option or can go down the standard alone route of configuring all the wifi points. The access points will also have to support vlans as there is a guest network in the school that we are quoting for. The access points will have to have support A,AC,G dual band. Please dont hesitate to drop me a PM Thanks Nathan

Complete Wireless Network Removed from a Site last year for sale. *UPDATE* items are now available individually Zone Director 3000 £200 R710 x 5 £200 R500 x 4 £70 7363 x 17 £20 7982 x 20 £25 Kit is currently reset and boxed. Located in Yorkshire (but can be shipped). In excess of 45k new, refuribshed suppliers currently list the components individually, totalled up would be around £3k Open to sensible offers.

Hello all, Just a quick post to promote wireless survey availability in the summer. If you are planning a new wireless installation, want to check your existing or just plan for an expansion we can help. We have a team of trained Wi-Fi engineers that conduct all types of Wi-Fi surveys depending on the requirement. We use the market-leading software solution to design and report on Wi-Fi surveys. All on-site surveys are charged at a day rate of £795. Discounts are available should you purchase hardware off the back of the survey. There are various approaches to on-site surveys which we can discuss with you, some quicker than others to keep costs down should that be a requirement. We also run free-of-charge Predictive Designs, these are performed offsite using scaled plans. You are provided with a detailed report for all surveys, including Predictive Designs. Onsite work will also include a separate written report containing advisories/concerns etc from the engineer that visited. Please note for new installations/expansions these would need to be using Ruckus, for health-check/post-installation reports this can be any vendor. The reason for some being only Ruckus is to perform the survey you first need the proposed hardware, but also insights into the running of the solution. If anyone has any questions, please let me know. Thank you for taking the time to read this. I hope you enjoy your day.

Hi, We have helpfully informed by our vendor that our 4 year old ruckus R510 access points will stop being configured/managed by our zone controller (cloud system bought through them rather than an onsite one) in 2023. Only finding out about this now rather than when we purchased the system is a bit of a pain but that is another story. Given that the system is fine for our needs now and projected needs in the future there is no budget to replace it. On reading it seems as if the APs can have the firmware upgraded and be configured to run in 'unleashed' mode - standalone aps Has anyone done this or have experience of it in a school environment. We are currently running 20 APs. If not, is there another way out of this dilemma? Thanks

Hi everyone, We recently got gifted some Ruckus R510 AP's from another school locally, these have finally allowed us to get some Wi-Fi across the site but we have identified some dead spots which need to have Wi-Fi access. Does anyone in the East Anglia region have any Ruckus R510 AP's that are surplus to requirements or are going to be E-Waste that they would be willing to donate to us. Thank you.

Over the Summer Net-Ctrl achieved the top partner status with Ruckus Wireless, we’re now classed as an ‘Alpha Dog’ partner. This is a level that only a few companies in the UK have achieved. To be classed as an ‘Alpha Dog’ we were required to complete various sales and technical exams, and demonstrate our competence with the Ruckus solution and knowledge of the wireless environment. What this means to you is that we should be able to offer a better price than other non-alpha dog partners, and it should also provide you with the security in knowing that you’re dealing with a trusted Ruckus reseller. We wanted to celebrate our new status with you all, by running a series of activities where you could win one of three highly elusive large Ruckus dogs. How will it work? Every Monday for the next three weeks we will launch a new activity that will test your eyes, mind and memory. You will have until the following Friday at 10.30 to send in your answers and enter. Every EduGeek member is only allowed one entry into each weekly activity. All correct entries will be put into a hat and we will choose a winner at random. The new owner of the Ruckus dog will be announced during Friday afternoon. How can I enter? To be entered into the draw all you need to do is send your answer(s) for the weekly activity on a PM to this account and then comment on the thread to let me know you have done so. (This will help me cross-reference everyone’s entries, to ensure I haven’t missed anyone out.) This is exclusively for EduGeek and open to everyone with an account that is UK based (Ruckus dogs are afraid of flying, anyone not in the UK, if you have a UK address you can still enter) Phew..I think that covers everything...any clarifications needed, or anything i have missed, please let me know Activity 1 Causing a Ruckus in the Park! The ruckus dogs have escaped the confines of Ruckus HQ and made their way down to the local park. Count how many dogs have managed to escape: PM me your answer before Friday 12th September at 10.30, and comment on the thread to let me know you’ve sent your answer. Good Luck! Ruckus has just released a new way to do WiFi in smaller sites that have limited budgets and limited IT resources. They call it Ruckus Unleashed. Ruckus Unleashed is a controller-less Ruckus solution whereby one AP acts as a Master AP that runs ZoneDirector code and manages your solution. The entire solution can be deployed in minutes and configured in just 60 seconds. This solution is capped at 25Aps and is currently only available with the R500 and R600 APs, however you can leverage your existing Unleashed investments to seamlessly upgrade to the controller-based management platform. Now you can take advantage of smart Wi-Fi, controller-less Features: Simple Deployment Deploy easily with no controller Configure a new Wi-Fi network Network investment protection Reduce your total cost of ownership Forward compatible with all future Ruckus architectures Optimal Wi-Fi user experience Deliver a reliable Wi-Fi experience to your end users Increase your network performance and capacity with Ruckus proprietary technologies such as BeamFlex+ and ChannelFly Enhance your customers’ experience Drive customer engagement by deploying a high RF performance network Leverage a wide range of guest access services such as: Captive portal, Email/SMS Guest Pass, Custom Logo, and Hotspot ZeroIT enables easy on-boarding of multiple guests simultaneously For more information on this solution, please feel free to send me a PM or ask in the thread and I will get back to you as soon as I can.
