Hi fellow geeks.... I am running into an issue where I'm having issues with my Android mobile phones on the wi-fi network. I am running a Cambium Networks wireless network. We take our internet feed from Exa and use the SurfProtect webfilter. We need to install an SSL certificate on devices in order to get to the internet. On Windows, Mac, iPhones, iPads, Chromebooks it all works fine. Certificate is installed and access to the internet. On Android devices, and it doesnt matter the version, you can connect to the wi-fi, install the certificate and browse the internet fine, but in the settings it say things like 'Limited Connectivity' or 'No Internet' when there is. This then impacts the use fo apps like WhatsApp & Sign In App. Has anyone come across somethnig simular in the past and if so did you resolve it and how?

We just got our response back today from the DFE for two of our secondary schools, they have both been granted less than half of what we submitted on the Doc3 cost matrix. Not meaning to seem ungrateful here but what am i supposed do I do with that!? fit half the school with Meraki Wi-Fi and leave the other half on a 15 year old ruckus system The criteria for the CTC program is: - an education investment area and have an Ofsted rating of ‘requires improvement’ or ‘inadequate’. - a priority education investment area One of our secondary’s fits both of these plus it fails on all the current standards for Wi-Fi that the CTC program is set out to achieve. The catchment area for pupils is one of the most deprived in Bradford a lot of students only have access to the internet when they are at school (not to mention it’s a time when some of them are only fed on FSM) I have been informed that other participating schools in the program, were provided full funding even when their existing Wi-Fi standards still passed the criteria prior to the CTC install, which raises concerns about their resource allocation. Our vendor says they never seen anything like this before, with some of their clients receiving triple the amount of what we were granted. My initial impression is that there could be potential bias against our identity as a Catholic Multi Academy Trust With less than half the requested funding granted, I'm at a loss regarding our options moving forward, given that we completely lack the extra capital required to cover the remaining amount needed to complete the install Has anyone else here in the CTC program experience this? Any advice on how to tackle this, I’ve already sent an email to CTC expressing the above points.

Hi all, We have a bank of around 120 iPads ranging from iPad Air 2 up to iPad (8th gen) - all controlled through JAMF For those iPads that are assigned to one user (class teachers) a fair few of them are losing Wi-Fi connection after a few minutes or each time the device is locked/restarted, we have not had this issue on any shared device. Wi-Fi works for all other devices in the school with no issues. Solutions tested: Updating to the latest IOS - X Wiping the device completely and reinstalling user profiles - X Pushing profiles containing Wi-Fi credentials back out to the device - X Manually inputting Wi-Fi credentials to each iPad - X Testing a different Wi-Fi - X Each of these allows connection for a few minutes but then experiences the same issue of it completely dropping out as before, any other suggestions are welcome as this is getting difficult for class teachers to use their devices on a daily basis.

Hello all, Just a quick post to promote wireless survey availability in the summer. If you are planning a new wireless installation, want to check your existing or just plan for an expansion we can help. We have a team of trained Wi-Fi engineers that conduct all types of Wi-Fi surveys depending on the requirement. We use the market-leading software solution to design and report on Wi-Fi surveys. All on-site surveys are charged at a day rate of £795. Discounts are available should you purchase hardware off the back of the survey. There are various approaches to on-site surveys which we can discuss with you, some quicker than others to keep costs down should that be a requirement. We also run free-of-charge Predictive Designs, these are performed offsite using scaled plans. You are provided with a detailed report for all surveys, including Predictive Designs. Onsite work will also include a separate written report containing advisories/concerns etc from the engineer that visited. Please note for new installations/expansions these would need to be using Ruckus, for health-check/post-installation reports this can be any vendor. The reason for some being only Ruckus is to perform the survey you first need the proposed hardware, but also insights into the running of the solution. If anyone has any questions, please let me know. Thank you for taking the time to read this. I hope you enjoy your day.

Hi all, If you have any Wi-Fi plans and have a Ruckus solution in place or would like to consider them as part of a wider replacement, please send me a PM. We are seeing good stock availability across most, if not all, of their AP models. Something we haven't been able to say in quite a while. Stock is also in good supply across the newer switch models - but not all - we can advise on options and availability. There are also a number of promotions running so we could advise on the options available and the price points. These include competitive swap-outs, ZoneDirection migrations, EDU pricing and more. thanks, Josh

We've been with Ruckus for over 8 years now and are looking to upgrade our infrastructure. We're happy with their service but would like to know what other wireless solutions are being used in educational environments. We have around 40 APs supporting 250+ clients. Thanks!

Hi, I was wondering what everyone’s experience is with Wi-Fi setups in schools. I know WG provide funding to LEAs for this, so I was wondering how your Wi-Fi setups work? IE who manages it, how much control / access you have, what setup toy have, kit etc?

We use Cisco Meraki as our Wi-Fi system and for our BYOD SSID we use 802.1X with PEAP and MSCHAPv2 so users can connect personal devices to Wi-Fi using their same login and password that they use for the computers / email / etc. A few weeks ago we found it necessary to enforce a password change on all our users. Unfortunately, although we did mention to them that they would need to update the wi-fi settings on their personal devices, we're still seeing a high level of authentication failures on the Meraki dashboard. Can anyone suggest ways in which we can deal with or mitigate this? Is there a way to force devices to re-prompt the user to re-authenticate? Or even to force the device to "forget" the network if their authentication fails a certain number of times? Would increasing or changing the lockout duration on users' AD accounts help at all?

Hi All, I want to VLAN my HP switches so i can make a guest wi-fi. All the switch's were installed before i started working in my school so i have no documentation. I have found there IP addresses in DHCP but this doesn't give me a clue where they are psychically! I see they have a serial port with console written under neath. Does anyone know how to access the management console on a HP Procurve 2425 with a serial cable on a windows 7 machine? Thank you for any help.

A strange request - we have a coffee shop on site for work related learning. We have a Miura M020 card machine, and it really struggles with connecting to our Wi-Fi. I have tried assigning static IPs but this doesn’t help and I am lost at what to try next. If anyone has any tips for troubleshooting that would be great. This is the machine - https://www.miurasystems.com/retail-payments/m020

How do. Recently got a batch of Lenovo V110 laptops and flashed with W10. With the few using the Realtek 8821ae Wi-Fi card the Wi-Fi all works fine except for connecting to the GPO-defined network.. untilthe card is deleted from Device Manager and added again with Scan For Hardware (no change in drivers). I'm yet to find out if it'll reappear when they're out in the field, but has anyone else experienced this? Anything to stick in our SCCM OSD task to take away this interaction would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi guys, I have an issue with my schools proxy settings on a few laptops and it's proving to be a real headache. This post will hopefully be able to generate a few ideas and bring me closer to the root of the issue. To remotely install some bits of software I need my proxy to be ON... Ok, here are the details: 3 x Laptops HP 250 G1 (x86)with Ralink wireless driver, Windows 7 Professional Browsing the internet does not work with the proxy ON. Browsing the internet does work with the proxy OFF. The proxy address and port number are 100% correct and working on nearly every laptop. I can ping any website and proxy server/default gateway I have tried... (with no luck) Removing Wireless networks Resetting the adapter Uninstalling the driver Static IP Non-Static IP IPConfig (Release, Renew, Flush DNS) NetShell - netsh int ip reset Removing from the domain REBUILDING the laptop Removing wireless profiles from registry Here's the kicker... this happened yesterday and I had to give up in the end. The member of staff then took the laptop home an connected to her Wi-Fi as normal. When she brought it back in the next day and reconnected to the sites Wi-Fi, all was working once again. But its happened again today with another member of staff. Can you guys think of anything else I might be able to try? Many thanks.

Hello, I know this has already been mentioned in one of the forums, but I wanted to bring it up again as it’s a great opportunity to hear from GT Hill. If you haven’t heard of GT before it’s worth checking him out on YouTube, he is an extremely knowledgeable guy when it comes to Wi-Fi. He is running a series of free educational webinars about Wi-Fi that will go through the real facts and physics necessary to achieve better Wi-Fi. These educational webinars are designed to teach you, not sell you (too much), on the keys to creating a better Wi-Fi experience for your users. He’ll answer questions like: • Why does signal really matter? • How can you not only deal with Wi-Fi interference but fix it? • Should you wait for 802.11ac Wave 2? • Will MU-MIMO really give me 4x better performance? Session 1 – Intro To Wi-Fi Basics and Radio Frequency Wednesday 23rd July @ 16.00-16.45 Register Session 2 – Exploiting Next Generation 802.11ac with smarter antennas Wednesday 30th July @ 16.00-16.45 Register Session 3 – Demystifying beamforming and adaptive antennas Thursday 14th August & 16.00-16.45 Register If you would like some information on the sessions you can read GT Hills blog post on the Ruckus Room, or visit the Ruckus website. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Ruckus have announced a new Ruckus ZoneDirector migration promotion – this comes with the ZD3000 already EOS (31/12/2023), and the ZD1200 soon to be no longer supported. Supported for replacement until 2027 To make this migration possible and more cost-effective, Ruckus has designed a promotion offering high discounts for Ruckus ZoneDirector users migrating to either the SmartZone (virtual or appliance) or Ruckus Cloud (aka Ruckus One) management solutions. In addition to this saving - Net-Ctrl can help manage the migration process and support you throughout. We will review your current AP estate and advise which Aps would be supported and on what firmware versions – we are also submitting discount applications to support clients to upgrade part/all of their AP estate at the same time. If you have an existing ZD solution and are interested in seeing some pricing for the migration you can either email [email protected] or send a PM and we can talk through your options.

Ruckus is running an Education-focused event in London on the 05th of November (8.30 am-12) at the Royal Garden Hotel (W8 4PT). You can register here: https://riseandconnectlondon.splashthat.com/ They have speakers from British Esports, Ruckus Engineering and Global Education leads to talk around: • Wi-Fi 7 • Digital Learning Transition • The Role of Esports in Modern Education • Emerging Technologies in Education You will enjoy exclusive demonstrations, insightful discussions with industry experts, and valuable networking opportunities with your peers. The day is set to be education–focused rather than sales-led, so you shouldn’t feel “sold to” but informed about new technologies and how these may affect education. I have heard the session from British Esports and found it incredibly insightful. It was something I thought I knew about, but tuned out understood very little about its wider role and purpose. Net-Ctrl is not affiliated with this event – this is an end-user-only event – you will not be tied to Net-Ctrl in any way. I am promoting the event as it’s one I see a lot of value in attending. Register here: https://riseandconnectlondon.splashthat.com/ Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, Josh
